If your looking for the feel then a mechanical keyboard is best, but if your looking for speed I don’t remember the name but there’s keyboards that don’t need you to apply much pressure on the keys which makes you at your peak in typing performance. Or you could just get a laptop.
I’ve not played the game, but if I designed the game, I would choose to use past history of a player’s speed and accommodate based on that: it makes no sense to provide a very long puzzle for an unknown starting player when you can adapt in a minute to a longer one, but it also makes no sense to use less than a bit over the fastest-known typing for a player based on history, because then they don’t have a stretch goal for a race.
If you can hunt-and-peck that speed, touch-typing will be even faster, and (most important) can be done with better form that reduces repetitive stress injury risks if you work on that as you should. In 1994 or 1995 I got a new supervisor at my employer, and he sat down with me to discuss objectives of what he wanted from me, and I was at my computer to type it. I was doing hunt-and-peck typing with 2 fingers, and in less than a minute after I started, he broke out laughing. I asked him, he explained while he’s seen people hunt-and-peck, he’d never seen it so fast. I did a quick test about that time, found I could do 42 wpm that way. It was about late 96 in my next job where I was finally doing more of touch-typing. Much easier on the body. Between past work involving throwing bundles of newspapers over the lengths of full-sized station wagons to being hunched over computer keyboards for decades, in 2016 after I started climbing, I found I was literally bent out of shape, and needed physical therapy to get things into a more proper order. I had thought I’d been suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome and at times wore braces (note: cold environments are NOT your friends for this!) but as it turns out, it was more an issue of nerves being pinched in the shoulders. I was fortunate to have had a chiropractor adopt me as a climbing partner, who recognized how rounded my shoulders were.
