Of course it’s not the same,Ian Curtis was a one off genius with a very distinctive voice. Can’t people just appreciate the fact that Hooky is playing this to an audience that still loves to hear this classic? It’s not like he is chasing glory here bearing in mind he played on the original. UP THE SIKMEN!
I don't care if some people say Hook&TheLight is just a lame cover band, that Hooky is a bad singer and so on... These lads carry on the legacy of Joy Divison AND New Order, their tone is exactly what made fans like me fall in love with the songs in the first place. They play their hearts out on stage, always demonstrating their passion for what they're doing - and we fans pay them back with the immense applause and cheering because we are just as thrilled by their music and performance. They might have a smaller audience than New Order, but nonetheless they manage to deliver more and most importantly higher quality content ( When I see that Tom Chapman plays a FENDER bass for songs like ,,The Perfect Kiss" I know they don't really care about the feeling/vibe of their songs). Each song feels so fresh and new when played live, but the spirit of the song never gets lost, which is essential - at least for me. And last but not least the prices: I (sadly) only have been at one Hooky gig in my life, which is due to my tender age of 17, but for the Strasbourg gig three months ago I payed 30€. 30€ for almost three hours of absolutely gorgeous music. Best deal of my life if you ask me. And now I've bought a ticket for Groningen in September and guess what it cost me: 28€! These guys play incredible music, know how to interact with their fans and demand affordable prices for their gigs. Do I need to list more reasons why Hook&TheLight is incredible? No, I thought so😂. By the way, great live version of Lwtua - though I doubt that this song can sound worse than good. Timeless classic!
@@omardiaz9066 Cool! Here in Germany nobody seems to know them, but that might be because I know the ,,wrong" people. Most teenagers here listen to what I consider trash music, namely the so called ,,Deutschrap" or in general the music they play on the radio here ;-)
I have read some similar stuff about Hooky but generally most of what you read about his live shows is very positive. Having seen both NO and PH live my personal opinion is PH sounds better live, more raw power, especially the JD tracks, whereas NO look better with their huge graphics/light show. Loved both and love both JD/NO too. Great post !!!
What I just love about this performance is his crusty seasoned voice, and the relentlessness, which changes the feel of the song, in a very good way. This is not the slip-the-knot-over-your-neck of the original (which is and will always be 100% awesome), this is endurance, however torn apart. When the audience shouts the chorus even louder, all the feels are firing.
New order without peter hook is a soulless new order cover band Thats the karma they get for choosing money over what you started Shame on gillian barney and stephen For choosing voiceless barney over the soul of the band
I've heard this song thousands of time since i was a kid. It still tugs at the heart. Yes, Ian Curtis was a genius. i am glad Hooky is keeping it alive for new generations
I know, I know. I`m more than late to the show. I`m 37 years old and started listening to Joy Division in May 2020 but oh boy I can tell you! There wasn`t any single day since then where I haven`t been listening to them. They instantly became one of my most favourite bands (along with Pink Floyd) and I just can`t stop loving them and their music. I think I´m somewhat addicted to them and I can understand and feel Ian Curtis pain, as I´m struggling with depression myself. Joy Division mean so incredibly much to me. Going to see Peter Hook & The Light next month in Germany and I`m SOOOOOOOOO excited, think I`ll cry all the time just because I`ll be so happy to hear this beautiful music, which I thought would never happen! OMG.
There have been a lot of great versions and covers of this song since the original, but nothing captures Joy Division as well as this. The band is tight, Peter's voice is perfect, the crowd is all in.
@@VambeefcoHorzey In my humble opinion, Hooky’s voice is FAR better suited to JD songs than Barney’s…but neither I nor the OP claimed that it’s better than Ian’s voice, which suited their music so wonderfully…but I can’t imagine Ian’s voice having suited say, “Bizarre Love Triangle”, as well as Barney’s did! Absolutely brilliant. Saw this being performed in Belfast last year. Tickets to see it again this year. Big respect for keeping this alive. Awesome piece of music.
I was there that night. The concert was originally the first on the tour but got cancelled due to Covid. Great night with fellow Joy Division fans mums dad’s sons and daughters.
Aaaw F..k...that;s got me right in guts..my best mate took his life around the same age as Ian... Something hangs with you for the rest of your life, that you could have been a better mate....something else makes you isolate yourself from getting too close... Great performance Hooky..done him justice.
If only Ian had lived to hear a theaterful of hometown fans singing back the chorus of arguably his band's most-famous (definitely most-beloved) song, stadium chant-style!!!
Saw this live in Melbourne at The Croxton which is a much smaller venue. The Joy Division music is meant to be experienced this way. Was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.
Man, this version is pretty insane. Ive always bene tempted to see go see Peter but never really looked into it and never went. Now iam quite bummed that i didnt hahaha
Absolutely. I've seen Hooky live twice now and New Order also twice, but yeah I think Pete Hook's band really did Joy Division much more justice. Nothing against New Order though.
Should have recorded songs at every show and just made a live album out of it. But you guys at glasgow where amazing best show I have ever been too cannot thank yous enough
I'm an Arsenal but every time City fans start chanting " City Tearing cockneys apart again " I nearly start to chant with them. Ian Curtis was an absolute genius❤❤
Always a fantastic night out!! I love that they play the JD and NO songs exactly as they originally sounded on record.. obviously slight changes like here to draw out the last track of the night, but, as someone who grew up listening to JD &NO it’s incredible when at the gig to hear the songs live as they were written.. Hooky gets slagged off for the light by some, but, I absolutely love them. Cant wait for Dublin in November 🙏☘️☘️☘️
When people who where into the music business for love music then they fighting over money power and still the music goes on 45 years later thank for hook’s love of the music
we saw Hooky and Co. at the KK steelmils in Wolverhampton a couple of weeks ago....brilliant..keep on 'trukin' lads...I say lads.... I am a 74 year lad......
Wow, I saw Peter Hook last week at Metro Chicago. Metro is a small venue of 1100 capacity. So I saw the band up close... Didn't realize he filled a much larger stadium few weeks prior. Amazing!
I just watched a TH-cam video and had a near religious experience on this fine Sunday morning. Things may suck when I watch the news, but they don't when I don't.
Left it all on stage Hooky and the Light. What a fantastic tribute to the late, great Ian Curtis. Best video I’ve seen all year! Can’t wait to experience this tour in Cardiff 2023 ❤
I saw these guys last year at Hammersmith Apollo and the previous year at Brixton Academy. Hooky and the boys always put on one hell of a show. Takes me right back to 1980 when I first heard Unknown Pleasures, and I thought "Wow, this is dark and moody". Actually, I think my exact thought was "Bloody hell, this is depressing", but pretty soon I couldn't get enough of it 😆

And Joy D was a band not just ...
I really want to know how it would sound when The Editors would try to play it, mostly because of Tom Smith his vocals.
He's doing it for his love of Ian.
Incredible bassist
Literally nobody even asked 😅 who are you even saying this to?

The sheer energy of the crowd feeding off of the band, and then redirecting it back in the middle by singing the chorus over and over is magic.
Yes, it shows how much people love joy division
The keeper of the flame for Joy Division.
Hooky is actually an excellent singer!
Absolutely, his singing has so much improved!
They are great live, new order isn’t the same without peter

Yes Peter hook is the light 😎
Joy Division's music is timeless. Thank you Hooky for keeping it a live experience.

Joy Division released this song 42 years ago...still sounds GREAT...!
Always will. My absolute fave song of all time
One of the greatest songs ever written! And this is how it should sound. Thanks Hooky for keeping Ian's legacy alive.
I was there, with tears in my eyes, unbelievable.
I'm getting them now, 71yo in the states.
Better than any new order performance of love will tear us apart
Ian never foresaw that chorus echoing through an arena...
Holy shit, this is awesome. It does highlight how much New Order desperately need Hook back.
Hook.made them! The way he plays with so much soul!
Part of me always wants to cry when I hear this.
Just as a part of me ALWAYS tries to NOT get all teary whenever it’s playing!
I can't describe how much I love this.
Joy Division released this song 42 years ago!!??
And my 25-yr old son just saw this show in AZ!!
The circle of life....
That is the coolest Peter Hook has ever bedn and the best rendition I have ever heard. Great crowd
tear to the eye stuff
Hooky is brilliant. The true spirit of Joy Division is in this live video.
I saw New Order within the last month, and I can tell you they desperately need Peter Hook back.
I agree
There was quite a few of us fifty somethings at the back roaring along, what a marvellous night...
I (65) will be at the front in Dallas next week.
Another fifty something here, I was there too, just 5 moths after my cancer treatment, one of the best nights of my life.
RIP Ian Curtis ❤❤❤
Around 1980 Joy Division came into my life and they never left. Still love!

Peter Hook's vocals on the Joy Division catalog is just wonderful. Like discovering Joy Division songs all over again
Hmmm, have to disagree there. They've improved over the years but being diplomatic, no-one's ever going to prefer him to Curtis.

Wowwwww!!! I've seen Peter Hook & The Light a few years ago and they were great. But THIS version is amazing!!! In Manchester!!
My Funeral song, because Ian's Lyrics mean so much to ME!!!!!!!!
Excellent night, Hooky never fails to deliver!!

I think of Ian and my eyes fill with tears. I truly love this song. Nice one Hooky. He would approve.
Holy S###. You ever want to know where the heart and soul of New Order went. Watch this video!!! Ian Curtis would approve. Joy Division!
I was thinking the same thing: the current iteration of New Order is only a cover band without that iconic Bass of Peter Hook

Peter Hook is The Man... Cheers from Paraguay...
Best iconic song I never seen Ian Curtis but I have seen hooky 3 times and he never let's anyone down with dedication for Ian curtis
Great song turned into an anthem! Magical and brilliant.
The audience singing along gives me chills.
The song still holds up after all these years. And people still go nuts when the band plays. How cool must it be to write a song like that?
And Ian Curtis will never know, bless him x
It's like a more depressing Mr Brightside.
I really wish Ian would have gotten to experience this, just hearing them chant is magic.
YES!!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I feel that for a moment Peter captured the essence of Joy Division
I love this audience!
I love that the bass guitar plays such a pivotal role in their music. And the Cure ESPECIALLY!!!!!!!!!
Joy division was so far ahead of their time
Much like Kraftwerk, whom Ian introduced to the other members of JD…
thank you God... I was lived and breathed this song during my teenage
It's like hearing it the first time every time.
A song so epic that it needs two bassists to play it live!!!
