@@therealscarylarry that's awesome, I saw Depeche Mode when I was like 15 around 1997 during the Ultra tour, it would have been amazing to hear them play this but it's so awesome that they are still touring all these years later
David Gahan is the ONLY man allowed to cover Joy Division. I haven’t heard a single cover this incredible. Ian would be proud ❤️❤️❤️

Ian's voice was a one off ,. He was from Macclesfield in Cheshire at the bottom of Buxton , he had a farmer's market east Cheshire voice very cold and haunting it's a one off voice no one can match it , it's only Depeche mode fans saying it's good , the synths sound good though , if you don't believe me go and listen to the original , don't get me wrong enjoy the silence is in my top 15 of all time , and I love my music

ive tried to explain to a younger friend of mine about what this cover means wit regards to the suicide of ian curtis and how thats influenced my eternal love for new order. its just not in his realm of understanding

There have been so many covers of this track over the years, but Dave Gahan picking it up just seems right. Dont know why, just feels "correct" if you know what i mean.

Holy crap! That was fantastic! Love Will Tear Us Apart is one of my all time favorite songs and it is generally not well covered. I think the fact that Dave Gahan seems to really love this song means he was working extra hard to do it justice. He also has the same kind of tone that Ian had. I love Depeche Mode for doing this.

I've heard many cover versions of Love Will Tear Us Apart, and I always feel it's a song best left avoided, as nobody will come close to the original. However well a band can reproduce the music, to reproduce the depth and emotion of Ian's vocal performance seems nigh on impossible.
So I have to give enormous kudos to Dave Gahan, he came closer to nailing it than anyone else I've heard. He even threw in a bit of the Ian Curtis arm movements. Definitely the best cover version that I've heard.
I remember Dave doing this cover when I saw his solo concert. The first and only time I started crying at a concert. It still brings me to tears to hear it again.

I actually shed-a-tear watching this, not only because it was so well-done, but because it reminded me so much of Ian Curtis, aside from the dancing. I really miss Mr. Ian Curtis, as I know so many others do, especially when some of Joy Division's best and most meaningful songs are played.
This cover brought me to tears.

I had been keeping on coming here since my hight school apreciation for JD and greatfulness for the timeless song. It saved my vulnerable youth.
Now I'm coming back here cause of a recently started passion for Depeche Mode \ Gahan's solo career.
It's not the cover, it's the spontaneity that gives this one such great dimension of a good reminder.

Been trawling through the various versions of this song on TH-cam, and this has to be the best cover on here. Think the guy at 20 secs that says "no way" just about sums it up... really, really didn't expect his vocal to be so good. Just superb!

yeah, it is a cover. even Bernard Sumner says so in a live show of New Order's. he says "nobody can be Joy Division", and New Order added a couple different people to the line-up.
New Order is Joy Division without Ian Curtis...... They only added Gillian Gilbert and changed their name. You don't cover your own songs. They are the same band as far as I'm concerned.

With all due respect, Ian wans't his own band. I think he was brilliant, but he didn't do it all himself. I think the other 3 (you know who they are) deserve respect. New Order went on to become one of the Greatest 80's bands of all time in my Opinion.
