I want to make dresses….front opening type…and use up my enormous stash at the same time…🤣🇦🇺
Good idea xx
You did really well here and the result is lovely. I think I would use different colours of fabric to muslin the top to see where it needs to be altered on the pattern. It’s quite tetras-like. Glad you aren’t giving up. It’s a very unique pattern to test your skills. Maybe try using two fabrics (one for each side). That would look interesting.Keep going. Looking forward to the next iteration.
Interesting idea thank you x
Your Judy top looks great. I’m planning to make that one this year, so I do so appreciate you sharing what you encountered while sewing it up. I love the cropped version of that top, but I am not at all interested in anything that reveals my midsection. I am planning to make the long version of the top. I suspect that I’ll be longing for the days when I would be happy to wear the cropped version. But, c’est la guerre. Having had two babies, and now at nearly 67 years old, it doesn’t matter whether I’m fit and trim or not; there will be no baring of my middle. 😄💙
Totally agree. If nothing else I don't like the feeling of things rising up. X
Great vlog as always. Love all your intentions. I dance three times a week which keeps me fit and happy it’s important to find your body fit happiness and go with it and it sounds like you have a plan well done ❤❤
Thank you. That sounds fun dancing three times a week xx
Sewing easy breeze garments at the moment for summer😊😊😊
Sounds lovely x
Hurray for trying harder things. Ive made a few Springes dress shirt sleeve and long sleeve. I usually have to shorten the bodice and I did. I graded between sizes too. I love my short sleeved one whi h i ve worn for parties but also with pumps coz its in a fab print Hope you sort the fit! YourJudy makes me want fo look at that pattern and work it out 😂 Thanks for sharing
You are very welcome. I'm going to give it another try x
Love that Judy dress pattern, looking forward to seeing it finished. I also need to do all the Bingo things! 😅
Thank you. Now to cut it out again
Love that bingo idea! I’m gonna try it.
Thank you. Hope it works for you x
Thank you for giving me the link to this video ❤.
I really want to make the springe jumpsuit. I don't like to make toalles but this time it will be important.
Maybe a bengaline will be the answer with some give. Top smaller and grade out my bottom..
Will keep you updated. 😅
Good luck. I am also thinking of sizing down and making it with some stretch.
Glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with the Springe jumpsuit. I've just attempted it for the 2nd time after multiple toiles, again it's all wrong across the bust 😢 and too much room at the back. I might resort to just draping and pinning it on myself 🤔. Will follow your progress 😊!
I'll keep you updated xx
Well done you for moving out of your jersey comfort zone and trying challenging patterns . Loving your bingo card
Thank you
I haven’t seen this knotch patterns dress but it’s interesting. They have a free pattern with a multi-piece sleeve you might be interested in for your sleeve exploration! There may be a language issue . I have ytested for them once and that was interesting, im not sure if they have a focus group, I will have a look
Ooh thank you. Yes I have their free pattern xx
Really really recommend you watch the nancy zieman pivot and slide method its mainly on big 4 but you can use it on any pattern just go by high bust measurement. Its been a game changer for me 😊
Ooh I will look into that.
@@sequingirlieth-cam.com/video/mJnjA9Lj654/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-bI--RLuU8O9kwId her book is still available too. It's basically using high bust rather than bust, so I was making a 12/14 to get fit on bust/waist but using hugh bust and making those two measurements is better 😊
Ummmmm, can you chuck that crossover top my way with the instructions because I’d love to investigate the construction. The pink pinned top perhaps needs a smaller frame size than you think and an FBA or similar for the fitted bust element and perhaps you need a slight lengthening in the back waist length even though you are teeny. 😊
There's an almost identical design in a Burda mag (02 /2021 dress 101) I've made it... I added 10" to the ties so I could tie it at the front. Lovely pattern
I like your intentional list, Bingo.
Thank you
Thank you for this video Sam, interesting what you say about the Judy top especially when you mentioned that the back was short - especially as you are only 5’ 2”. Short tops / crop tops do not suit me and being 5’ 10” I wonder where this top would have ended up on me.
Wow yes. However my whole torso is fairly average just a short distance at the front.
@@sequingirlieI’m going to attempt the summer in New York dress this week, I think. You gave me the inspiration for this beautiful dress.
I'm going to try to sew apparel this year for the first time. Wish me luck!
You can do it!
It’s so much fun once it starts to click. You can do it.
Totally agree
Love your bingo sheet 😂 My word for the year is BALANCE. I really need to find balance in my life. I’ve introduced regular 30 minute walks, bedtime reading instead of watching TH-cam, not bringing my work home with me (I work in what can be an emotionally challenging job) and delegating visits to the nursing home so far. Sewing wise I need to get my big girl pants on and START THAT COAT! I began cutting out the Nova Coat in November and finished cutting it out last weekend. It something totally new to me and I’m terrified to make a start. It’s actually giving me butterflies! 🤦🏼♀️😂 I refuse to begin anything else until I get it done though 🤨
Love your word for the year. You can do it with the coat xx
@ One step at a time Sam, that’s my plan 😂 Have a great day 💞💞
You can do hard things! Way to go! The fabric you chose for the dress is gorgeous! I think once you add a band to the bottom, you’ll be good! Maybe the jumpsuit could be worked into a two piece set if you make high wasted pants and if the top is low enough! Then you might wear one part or the other! Can’t wait to see which way you go with both.
I just finished a week long course in making patterns for printing on fabric! I am not sure I’ll get far enough to do much with it, but I’m not giving up yet! Tonight I cut out a sweater for myself. I’ll see that tomorrow, and start wrapping Christmas gifts for this weekend. Finally get to see those grandkids!
Hope the bonus Christmas goes well xx
Have a look at Burda dress 101 from issue 02/ 2021... Very similar to that wrap dress
Wow that is so similar. Thank you
I buy a lot of my clothes from the thrift store so I have a huge pile of alterations/mending to do. I made a list and a to-do spinner (copied from So Carole) and I've just started doing them. I've decided I'm not making anything new until I get them all done (although I am flexible and may change my mind on individual items as I get to them). Love your vlogs!
Great idea xx
This morning I received an email from The Fold Line and one of the patterns it was suggesting is the Judy Dress! I was debating the pattern because I know I often have the same petite frame issues you do and decided to let it go. Now here you are with the same dress! I hope you keep persevering on it because I really like the dress and you're doing much of the work for me. Yippee! Make the dress, please Sam.
Ooh well I better get on with it then xx
@@sequingirlie 💛
I made a toile of the Tilly Nell. I needed to go down by 2 sizes and raise the fat
Good luck
Just a thought on the notches top. Could you go back and add the skirt section to the bottom of the top hemline?. The joknvwoukd ge hidden by the wrap...in a block colour if you don't have enough of that fabric 🤷
I have thought about that. I've actually cut out the dress version tonight.
I love sewing with cosy knits and jerseys but I needed to do something different so I too have been sewing a difficult (for me) pattern. It needs a lot of tweaking and it’s a little bit frustrating that I’ve nothing to show for hours of work BUT it’s strangely enjoyable thinking about how I will fix the problems and make 5he pattern work for me.
But do I crack on with it or take a break from it and delve back in the knit fabrics and make something quick that I can wear now? 🤷♀️🤪
Very enjoyable and relatable vlog thanks Sam 😁
Ooh what pattern are you doing?
@ ellestitch Fleur dress. I thought the invisible zip would be the biggest challenge but the weight of the lovely gathered neckline pulls the lining to the outside. I’m unpicking the hand stitched bodice lining, shortening the lining and resew it down. Fingers crossed it works as I don’t think the double gauze will cope with too much unpicking 🤞 it’s such a lovely dress shape, I might need to step away and avoid rushing to finish it
Weekly Bingo!: tell me you're a teacher without telling me you're a teacher 😄(from a former teacher)
😂😆I know. You can take the school out of a teacher but I'm still a teacher at my core xx
Hate to be a negative nellie but please do not start a substack specifically - the site platforms literal nazis. Don't you just love 2025???? Anyway so much fun to see what you've been working on. I am feeling good about starting the year with genuine selfcare - went to the actual dentist for the first time in years and everything was fine! Yoga practice is so nice to support my sewing habits. And if I do yoga I can drink a few glasses of champagne and not feel like trash in the morning. Thank you for sharing your intentions!
I welcome your opinion. I'm very torn right now about how to create more for the community. Go you going to the dentist xx
Substack is a GREAT platform because it allows for true free speech and therefore doesn't censor (unpopular) viewpoints. Free speech needs to be absolute in order to work for EVERYONE. Freedom of speech is a God-given, inalienable RIGHT. Anyway, I suspect you are not an American. In short, I encourage everyone to join substack.
Thanks for sharing Sam, although making toiles are not fun, sometimes it’s necessary. I’ve made 3 wearable toiles recently, 2 are definitely wearable but the last one looks really awful on me to the extent that I don’t think I’ll ever make the pattern. 💙🧶🌈🍓
Thank you xx
