This was a fascinating watch and I have to say that all the work you put into your vlogs really shows; they come across as very professionally done and that's one of the reasons I love your channel. I really enjoy your content, and the way it's presented. Thank you for being so thorough!
Thank you for satisfying my inner nosiness! I started watching during vlogmas, and I thought your room was much bigger than it actually is. I love a big notebook! It acts as inspiration and a memory.
Hi Alison. what a fantastic vlog - I love seeing other peoples sewing areas. Yours is amazing and very organised and tidy. I really appreciate all the effect you put into your behind-the-scenes work. It truly shines through your vlogs which are always informative, engaging and inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing content. see you Thursday evening when I am on my first sewing virtual with you and the group xxx
That was a great vlog Alison, I love a nosey around other people’s sewing spaces, I really like your new backdrop and it was fascinating to learn about the process. ❤❤
Great insights and affirmation of why I will never vlog😂😂😂. Seriously, your obvious hard work is truly appreciated. Room certainly maximises your space but I cannot see your projector? Thanks for sharing and happy sewing😊. Lynne
Thank you so much 😁 I’ve moved it Lynne and I think I may sell it. I love projecting patterns but if I’m making 4 things per month only one of them may be projected so I had to weigh up the most effective use of that corner. Now I’ve got the shelf up and pretty things on it- it’s the first thing I see when I walk in the door and it makes me feel 🥰🥰🥰
I really enjoyed this vlog - well, actually I enjoy all your vlogs so thank you. I think your new layout is great and it's always good to have variety. Listening to you is like sitting with a friend so I'm grateful. I'm looking forward to your content about the babylock machine - I don't feel I use my overlocker or my coverstitch to the most so I'll welcome more information.❤
Hi Alison, I loved that, it was really interesting. I'd love to see how you plan your makes and get all the bits you need together. Where you look for inspiration, etc. I'm struggling with this myself and just not making anything. I think I've either lost my sew jo, or the planning is overwhelming. Life's very busy, and sewing seems to be put on the back burner first xx
Hi Vicki I’m honestly finding Stash Hub invaluable. I saw 2 dresses on my insta/facebook yesterday so I added the pictures to my inspiration section on Stash Hub and I’ve planned one of them in to my sewing projects for Feb on the app too Hope that helps - I will talk about it a little more ( my process on my Feb seeing plans) x
Your room is looking lovely. I don't have enough space to reorganise much. I have too many hobbies, too much stuff, and not enough space. I recently had a good clean and sort out as I had a new machine coming. That has now arrived and the room is a mess again. Tomorrow I will spend an hour, or so, sorting it out. It won't be nearly enough time, but I'll try to do a bit each day
Thanks Alison for such an informative vlog. You’re so organised. Thank you for going to all the effort for us. I had a double take when I put this on as I’m wearing my Drew in exactly the same fabric and ribbing! 😂 my daughters also got your silk bonnet too!!
Hi Alison and thanks for the vlog. It was very interesting. It's amazing the amount of work that goes into putting out a vlog. My hubby has a car based YT channel and it takes an incredible amount of time to put out a vlog. His approach is quite similar to yours in the planning but he doesn't bother about makeup 😂 and also doesn't just wear black t-shirts (that's because his wife hasn't sewn him any black ones). 🙂
Thank you for such a detailed "secret life" introduction, Alison. The amount of preparation you do is obviously why your vlogs are always so informative and interesting. I discovered your channel in November '24 and have been intrigued ever since. Thank you for re -igniting my interest in garment sewing again. ❤😂🎉 🇦🇺 🪃
Don’t put yourself under pressure- what works for me may not work for you We all have our own ways- I’m working about 30 hours a week - now that I’ve started Sew Virtually in addition to vlogging and my other role so I’ve had to re look at my time management or it would just feel overwhelming and I wouldn’t be productive x
Hi Alison, Thanks for the tour behind the scenes. Very interesting as I uploaded my first vlog this week. A Friday Sews vlog. Lots for me to learn and a long way to go, so I really appreciate your tips. Clarobobbins x
That was a very interesting video Alison. It's good to see what actually goes into creating your vlogs. There's a lot of planning and I am totally with you on the 'too many things in room' distraction thing. I can't even go into my sewing room comfortably if I've not tidied away. Thank you for taking the time to do this X
Thanks Alison. This is great information that you have shared. I’m working on some ideas for my background, hopefully I will have it organised in the next couple of weeks. Slowly but surely I am getting in to the swing of things. 🙏😊
Really interesting vlog. Love your room and I have noticed and enjoyed your new backdrops. It's definitely nicer as a viewer to have some visual variety. ❤
Thanks for sharing all of that information. I used to think i would like to start a TH-cam channel when I retired, but now that I'm retired, i really don't think I have the time. One thing I've always wondered and noticed vloggers don't talk about, is do you make money from vlogging? Honestly, most of the time, I would rather watch a sewing vlog, rather than a television program. My sewing room window also faces south and really needs a curtain or shade. Or i could wear 😎. It's a beautiful sunny day here in Southern Ontario Canada. Unfortunately it's also incredibly cold, it feels like -28. Brrrr!
Hi within TH-cam you can apply for Google adsense You have to meet certain criteria to be monetised. Not everyone chooses to apply and adverts are applied whether your monetised or not There’s a bit to it behind the scenes and there’s quite a few vlogs on monetisation out there if you want to check it out further 😊
Lovely room, and very well organised. I am lucky enough to have a nice sized bedroom for my sewing room, and like to keep it tidy. I have recently decided to jump on the vlogging bandwagon, but in a very small way - i.e. trying to do it on a very low (or no) budget! I am not sure whether to use my camera or my phone, but trying the phone at the moment. I decided to get a microphone and phone clamp and a remote for the shutter, but I am down a rabbit hole looking at 'how to do TH-cam' videos, and which editing programmes to use. I think it is the content that I will struggle with, but also I am not one for a beauty and make up regime! So it will be a 'take me as you find me' video. Looking forward to the Sew Virtual this week.
Oooo how exciting - send me a link to your channel in insta 😊 We have to be authentic so just be you I use a mix of my camera and phone at the minute It sounds like you’ve got off to a great start 🥰
@SewLikeDotty I thought I'd replied to your comment but it appears to have gone. I don't have Instagram as I've had problems setting up an account for some reason. My YT handle should go to the channel.
I haadnt realised just what went into being a blogger so this has been most informative. The last time I commented I said I was going to the Newark Quilt Show and you asked me to say hello to the people on the Babylock stand. Well, I did and got quite a welcome. While I was there I bought some fabric, including some teal spotty cotton to make the Mave skirt and some plain linen/cotton blend for a Bestie bag. I was also able to get the hardware for the bag.
Having a look behind the scenes -
Was it what you were expecting?
How do you organise your room and makes?
Great job - it takes so much time and organisation - I think you have to love it or it wouldn't work. Thanks for sharing - fascinating details.😎❤
Thanks Sue see you Wednesday c
Wow, I love your room and appreciate all the hard work you put in. Thank you for sharing your time with us ❤
It’s a pleasure - I love it 😍
Your room is lovely Alison and you achieve a very professional output whilst being personal to you and very interesting to us 😊 thank you xx
Thank you so much 😊
As a vlogger myself, this was really useful & gave me some ideas. I really love what you’ve done with your background, it looks lovely 🥰
Awe that’s really kind of you to say - we all have our own ways and learn from each other - love our community x
I didn't expect any of this! I'm a technophobe so I admire all you do. Your sewing room looks great.
I just dive in then shout for Carl when I need help but I’ve kind of figured it out as I go along 😊
That was very interesting indeed, Alison. What a lot of organisation goes into something that looks so natural!
@@lizlisle7361 thanks Liz 😊
I’ve been wanting to start vlogging for a few years…. This is the year! Thank you for the wonderful video❤
Oooo how exciting 😍
Interesting vlog, looking forwards to my first virtual session on Tuesday 😊
Oooo lovely I’m looking forward to it 😊
Thank you Allison. Love your channel.
Thank you so much 😊
Really enjoyed this vlog Alison - your room is looking fabulous too! xx
Thanks Tamlyn I’m enjoying the process and I’m super happy with my new corner x

You are so welcome! It’s lovely to have a special space that makes us feel that way 💕
Thank you for satisfying my inner nosiness! I started watching during vlogmas, and I thought your room was much bigger than it actually is. I love a big notebook! It acts as inspiration and a memory.
Thanks - it’s much bigger than I tiny cold porch I started in - I love it

That was fun to hear about what is involved in being a vlogger! Now I know I just want to be a viewer! Thanks, Alison!
Go for it 😊
Thank you Alison. What a lot of work goes into making your lovely videos - and you manage far more makes than me😂
😊 thank you. I’ve set myself a smaller goal now 4 things a month and I feel less pressured
very interesting, so much involved! x Debs
Thanks Debs x
Thank you Alison, that's really interesting.
Glad you think so x
That was a great vlog Alison, I love a nosey around other people’s sewing spaces, I really like your new backdrop and it was fascinating to learn about the process. ❤❤
Thanks so much Janette 😊- one of the perks of Sew Virtual is we all get to have a nosy
@ Love it Alison 😀
Allison, I love what you have done with your room. It’s very thoughtful of you to have those 3 different areas for us. 😃
Thank you so much!
Thankyou for the tour and information on putting up a vlog really appreciate it ❤😊😊😊
My pleasure Robyn 😊

Double whammy Helen
Wow…what an eye opener Alison! And I’m with you on the ‘substantial stationary’ - no-one needs a flimsy notebook ☺️
Totally - I love stationary 🥰

Thanks Debbie it’s sometimes interesting to see the processes behind the scenes
Great vlog as always a super insight into your life as a vlogger well done ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Really interesting and very organised! I don’t know what I’d do if I was ever going to show my sewing room to anyone 😮😂 xx

Thanks for watching 😊
Really enjoyed this, can I ask how you came about the name sew like dotty ❤
Sooo my middle name is Doreen ( I don’t use it though) my brother used to call me spotty dotty when I was little and it kind of stuck
I haadnt realised just what went into being a blogger so this has been most informative.
