Yes, fine. But to what standard do the SPDs need to be to satisfy 230.67? Listed, 90.4? Correct. Nothing in the NEC requires UL certification. OSHA NTRL, yes. Why are inspectors saying if not certified to UL1449, it's not NEC approved? UL1449 tests MOV-SPD's only, not SOV-SPD's which provide better protection and are IEEE 62.6234 certified. Alot of confusion out here in the field.
Hi Philip, NEC Code, Article 230.67 states that SPDs need to be UL Listed, Type 1 or Type 2 devices: this is referring to UL1449 standard which classifies and tests SPDs to various requirements. UL testing is performed and approved by UL body while IEEE tests are usually certified by manufacturers. All Mersen SPDs are Type 1 Listed which means they comply with 200kA ISCCR and do not require additional overcurrent protection. Mersen SPDs utilize industry-leading TPMOVs (Thermally-Protected MOV) technology and are protecting millions of customers in the field already. @@MersenGroup I appreciate your reply. But that is NOT what 230.67 says.
