I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

@Elijah-Brian The crazy part is that those advisors are probably outperforming the market and raising good returns but some are charging fees over fees that drain your portfolio. Is this the case with yours too?

I'm so in love with this home I went to the website to learn more, and there is almost half an acre of pine forest included that is "about a three minute walk" away - free firewood! (if you don' t mind burning softwood, and clean your chimneys regularly). So the area around the house is a little over an acre, with the rest being the forest plot.
I do so wish I were ready to make the move, this home is beautiful, and those views are stunning!
Yes you are right! I ran out of time filming the main house as it was lunch time and still had another property to film after.
I haven't seen the extra bit of land but it should make a nice little bonus for whoever buys it :)

This property is a hit. Arrange the terraces and new furniture and arrange the space under the roof. The auxiliary house is great for wine, don't change anything. The olive grove is excellent, the view is beautiful on all sides, lots of air, light, quiet environment, peace. The land alone is worth that money, the house is free.👌👍

You could knock through on 2 bedrooms.. to make a living room overlooking the land from balcony.. lots of options with this property.. not a bad price.. yes lots of updates needed but liveable while doing it.. ❤
Got to have a couple of rocking chairs on that balcony to take in those views :)

Actually, we were not very far from freixo da serra on holidays last year. Simple and friendly people, amazing views and queijo da serra, que maravilha 😂😂😂
I rented for a few mon ths, close by in a mountain village called Manugalde da Serra, and the people were so lovely. Its a completely different vibe from the city and the pace is much slower.❤

Hi Debbie, I've met a few people who moved here from Australia. There are numerous visa options available to live here and become a resident. If you dont need to work for a living and can retire on a pension or some sort of passive income, then you should google the Portuguese D7 visa. Its a great way of becoming resident, and getting an EU passport, without having to spend a lot of money.
Looks like a great piece of property for a reasonable price. If it were you , what renovations and updates would you do ? It looks like people are living there now. It sounds like the price tag

I'm not sure. It was a long time since we signed up for our farm, so i cant remember the minimum land sizes etc.
My neighbour Joaquim loves his Ford tractors and this Massey Ferguson tractor is made by the company that bought Ford Tractors out... so i think he would like it too ;)
Beautiful property. In Brazil, a property like this could easily sell for 230,000 euros (R$ 125,000,000.00). In states like Santa Catarina, it could even sell for 260,000 euros. It's because in Brazil there's a gourmetization of rural properties, and prices have increased too much.

In many countries a foreigner can't own land unless they are a primary citizen . Which could cost in some cases 100k to 250k and take up to ten years to approve .
This is not the case in Portugal. Anyone can own property.
Beautiful part of Portugal , but if you wanted to live year round in a house this size you would need to add central heating! The wood stoves would make it livable but not comfortable, too uneven of a heat source. If you only want to use it in the summer then you would be fine.
We used a woodstove for our first 4 winters in Portugal in our little (uninsulated) farm house and it was pretty cold! Now we are using A+++ rated airconditioners that do heating and cooling and its sooo much better! Our electricity bills have gone up but its still cheaper than the amount of wood we used to have to burn. I'm interested so see how it works in the summer now :)
Ken, hope your Language lessons are going well. The little cellar in the annex, where wine and Aguardente is made is called an Adega. Beautiful house and property!😊

Eventually you guys would have to find my beautiful other side of the Serra da Estrela! 🤫 stop telling everyone how great it is and how it’s not as stinking hot as other parts of Portugal or it won’t be a secret anymore! 😊

Hi Perry, do a Google search for Freixo da Serra yearly temperatures for a comparison. You lose around 1 degree Celsius for every 100 metres of altitude you climb and this village is in the mountains.
Thanks Ken. Looking at Portugal, we have always worried about the extreme heat we see on a couple of other channels like Joseph on farmerforfun, where temps seem to climb into the 40C range. we would melt in those temps.@@OKportugal

Tallest Mountain in Portugal is Pico Mountain, in PICO Island, Azores.
Pico mountain is not in Portugal.

Yes it has some fruit trees (im not sure what they are as its winter and there are no leaves to identify them with).
Freixo da Serra does have fibre optic broadband. There is also 4G and 5G mobile Internet signal.
Seems too good to be true. Looking at other properties from this agent, there is nothing that comes anywhere near it for value.

The property is used as a holiday home for the warmer parts of the year, but it does have two large log burners downstairs in the living room and kitchen for heating.
I dont think I would go for radiators for heating and would rather install energy efficient air conditioners that do heating and cooling. They work so well in our farm house and the bills are still a bit cheaper than burning wood (or oil, electricity for radiators).

I think it all depends on the persons attitude towards moving to a new country and integrating. I have been here for nearly 5 years and i love it. The locals are kind, friendly and welcoming to me, but i have heard of others who have moved here, had a terrible time, and left.

I think its a good thing as not everyone wants the scorching summer temperatures of Castelo Branco or Alentejo.
Sure it is a bit colder in the mountains in the winter, but the cold part of winter is very short and you soon have months and months of sunshine and heat. :)
Every area has its positives and negatives. I would recommend that you visit Portugal and travel around the different areas to see for yourself. Its not a big country, only 218 km wide and 561 km long.

Certainly a good opportunity but what are the annual taxes, how much do you pay for it? Yes, I'm asking this question because I already got trapped (bought in France): I pay 3500 € taxes a year ! That's also the reason why I want to leave: they are killing me !
On my water bill I have a consumption of 5€ but at the end the bill sorts out with 35-40€: all others are state taxes, local tax, community tax, another municipality fee: France is bankrupt and they creep those that remain !

A farm is a piece of land you grow crops or rear animals. It's got nothing to do with land size. If you cultivate and harvest olive trees, fruit trees, and grape vines (like this property has) then it's technically small farm.
