I bought the camera for its social functionality and ease of use, but most importantly its colours, people get too worked up about specs but at the end of the day, all that matters is ISO, Aperture, Shutter speed and whats in your frame. The colours help to tell the story and I love the film simulation it has, being able to upload straight to my phone without any editing and posting it online is what I need it for.
Things consumers don't understand is that street photography never required the subject being in perfect autofocus, it was more about how the lens rendered the scene of the subject. Film's low grain density was able to record all the tonality it needed from the lens. A simple look at 28mm lens masters' prints or books will tell you all about it: Lee Friedlander, Gary Winogrand for starters.
The X-70 reviewed here better than I was expecting. Other reviews seem to be more negative. But you guys I feel are the most honest and down to earth of the reviewers out there...so I go by what you guys say more than others.
Nice touch with the 2 white rabbits frolicing on the lawn of the cementary (left corner of the frame) between 1:33 and 1:50 - Keep it up (the good work) - you are the BEST!Best regards from Norway!:-)
Great review. Fuji has hidden their version of snap in the manual focus settings. Go to manual, use the manual lens dial to select your snap length, focal length bar is at the bottom and bang it shoots instantly at the distance you've selected. Go back to to auto settings and it remembers your preferred snap length the next time you switch back to manual.
+canturgan you can keep it in manual snap mode. I was trying to say that the x70 remembers the last snap setting you used. For me it's usually 1.5m.. All you have to do is flick the switch to manual and the x70 remembers the last snap setting you used. Exactly the same as switching to s preset mode on the GR. Done differently but works exactly the same.
What do you guys think of Fuji's companion app? I think that would be a good addition to the review as younger photographers want to find the quickest way to get their photos on to social media.
+Teoh Yi Chie We used the Rode Filmmakers Kit for this video. The included Rode Lavalier mic rejects background noise extremely well. We do find the wireless units themselves a bit clunky and bulky, but the audio quality is top notch. Jordan @ TCSTV
Hi. Nice Review as usual. But why did you completely miss to mention the ability of digital conversion to 35mm and 50mm?? That´s a very cool feature for a lot of situations I think.
Thanks for sharing! I laughed so hard during the "old tar on the road" bit. I love how this camera's video specs weren't even worth Jordan's time to say how poor they are :)
Fuji actually claims that ACROS requires processing power that earlier Xtrans processors don't have. That's why it's only possible to enable it on X-Pro2 atm.
Hi! I'd like to get a small compact camera that I can carry around all the time, for spontaneous street photography as well as some outdoor shots when I go hiking and whatnot. I got my eyes on the X70 and the X100T, as I really like the design, the clicking aperture ring and the shutter speed dial. Now I'm more keen on the X70 as it's cheaper, more recent, more compact and maybe I can come to terms with the lack of a viewfinder. My other two options at the moment are the Ricoh GR II and the Panasonic GX80. I understand that the RIcoh GR II might be better for picture quality, but I'm having a really hard time giving up on the aperture ring and the shutter speed dial. I keep changing my mind until a point that I need someone to tell me what to do, lol. Any suggestion? Am I missing something else? Or perhaps there is something new that is going to be released soon that might be worth waiting for? Thanks and sorry for the long post!
allagogna did you buy it? Or like what did you buy? Cause I'm looking for a camera i can carry around with me and I'd use it to take some photos with my friends and i would shoot things i like, like my cat and all but i would like a good video quality too and i really don't like editing so I'm really confused cause a lot of people suggested me sony a6000 but I'm not sure about the colour anyways i saw your comment and just wanted to know what you did. Thanks.
why i feel the speaker is stand in front of a picture or screen or something, not only bokeh, but the color feels separate, why is that ,is there fill light ?
I got one of these as an every day carry camera and because I wanted to try a fixed 28 equivalent, a focal length that I've never really gelled with. Every time I pick one up I want to bring it up to my eye before remembering that it has no viewfinder. As for your OVF suggestion, that would be fine except you'd then not know where your focus points are, or your exposure information. As for Acros, the resolution and processor preclude it as an option, something that Fuji state on their site. Now considering whether a X100T would be a better option for me, or will an update to the T use the 24mp sensor?
Hey Chris, what do you think of the internal digital teleconverter that lets you zoom in to a 35mm and 50mm focal length. How does it affect the image quality?
Hi, thank you for your video. since eq28, 35, 50mm are electronic focal length and not native one as x100t at 23mm (and eq28, 50mm wcl, tcl) is the quality of photos in jpeg and raw results, same as x100t?
Hi I have very important question to ask you: since focal length of x70 lens at eq.28, 35, 50mm is electronic and not native/real as eq.35 in x100 (and eq.28, 50 wcl/tcl), are the quality of result photos (jpeg and raw both) same for printing and exhibition presentation?
I love this little camera. I use it for street photography and its next to invisible. I also like the digital tele converter. I can shoot 16mb JPGs at 35mm and 50mm focal lengths with no real loss in quality. I'm impressed by Fuji at how they pull this off. Sure, it would have been nice to be able to shoot at 35 and 50 in raw, but Fuji's JPG's are damn good and I can still shoot raw at 28mm focal length. I also like the articulated touch screen. I use the touch screen only to move my focus point. Not to focus/shoot because the touch/focus/shoot is a bit slow in my opinion. I also use this camera at manual focus most often because it is faster that way. I prefocus at a certain distance, set the aperture to f8 and shutter speed to 1/125 or 1/250 and auto ISO. With the leaf shutter it is just to click away and no one notices the camera. Love it :)
I have never used a Ricoh GR so I can't compare them two. But the ergonomics of the X70 is good, in my opinion, and it feels even better/safer with a wrist strap. I also find that the camera is not small enough to fit into your jeans pockets, unless you have really baggy jeans with big pockets. The camera fits well in a jacket pocket though. But the camera feels good to hold in the hand so I just carry it in my hand all the time when I'm out shooting. And since the camera is so good looking I feel more handsome carrying it in my hand :P I also carry a small messenger bag so I can always put it in there if I want to.
It's quiet easy. Let's you use aperture priority, and you want your exposure to be half stop brighter or darker but as you know you can't change the shutter speed with aperture priority, exposure comp. will do it for you and it might change the iso instead depending on the situation.
Hey guys, I need some advice. I am looking for a relatively compact camera for under 1K that will be a decent substitute for my Ninkon D750. It needs to be small enough to carry in my purse or a relatively small bag. It will be used for kids, animals, some portraiture and landscape, and random other sightseeing/vacation type stuff. I have the list narrowed down to the following: Panasonic Lumix DMC LX100, Sony RX100 III/IV, or a Sony A6000. I need it to be compact, lightweight and fast, does a good job as a point and shoot but has decent manual controls as well. I do a lot of close-up and macro shooting, so one that can handle macro shots with a lot of yummy blending in the background would be great. Any suggestions would be great, because I need to make a decision fast!
Thanks for the review. I was really hanging out for the X70 due to it being smaller that the X100t and flip & touch screen, however after this I am realizing that 23mm f2 will give significantly better DOF than the 18mm f2.8. Edge sharpness on both cams is so-so. This leaves choice based on 1) size 2) viewfinder 3) LCD features and 4) price Tough call. The there is the XT10 with 27mm pancake (I already own the lens)... Hm.
I apologize in advance for the silly question... but I've had this camera for almost a year and I can't figure out of there is a zoom feature or not. Can you help?
I think the Panasonic LX100. Fixed lense but with zoom capability. M4/3 sensor but only 12 Mpx really used (depending on aspect ratio it uses other pixels from the 16 Mpx but never uses the full 16 Mpx). ISO as of the 4/3 sensor maybe not so good as of the Fuji x70 but you can get good shoots up to ISO 3200 I would say. Manual controls for aperture, shutter speed and Exposure compensation. Autofocus speed with DFD should be way better than anything Fuji provides. And of course video 4k UHD works flawlessly with the Panasonic. Body wise the LX100 should be a little bit smaller though the lense as it is "power" zoom lense expands when turning the camera on so overall it uses a little bit more space than the Fuji. Hope that helps. I have a LX100 and can recommend it. Price wise it should play in the same league as the Fuji. The Fuji might be the better still photo only camera but the Panasonic is the more complete overall camera.
Thanks for your detailed reply! I'm not that good w/ the technical side of cameras but your explanation wasn't too difficult to understand. Hehe, tho I'm definitely leaning towards the LX100 because of its video capabilities.
I was looking into this camera and was wondering if it was good for new users. Im not a crazy camera person but I like taking pictures on vacations or special events etc. Would you recommend this camera or something else in this price range?
Hi @Martin Preinesberger. Maybe I'm a little bit late to answer your question. The camera has no optical zoom. It has only digital zoom which works lie a crop (this reduces image quality as far as I know). Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. It hasn't got a smooth optical zoom which for me is a big let down and, as much as i love a lot about this camera, I am currently returning my X70 :(
Hey Guys. You did a very fair review of the X70. I have one myself, and you hit the nails right on. But, you sure glossed over McLeod Drive ... so much more depressing scenery that you missed...:-)
I'd say it's more like the X100T's little brother. Roughly said, it's a X100T that is smaller, without any viewfinder, with a different lens and an added tilty-touchy screen.
Thanks for the vid guys. I'm pretty well set up with MFT but I'd like one Fuji to experiment with. I don't really want to buy into a whole new lens system just yet, so I thought the X-70 might be a good way to go. But after watching this it seems like an x100t, or an X-e2s or X-t10 with a decent prime would be a better idea.
Hi, 1st of all tnx so much for this great review! I'm a bit concerned about the filter adapter because this makes everything way thicker - have you tried to screw a 49mm filter on the lens the other way round? does AF still work?
Glad Fuji made this because I hope it destroys sales of the Ricoh GRII. The GRII is, while a good cam, is a dust magnet, with respect to the sensor. I had two, both ended up being returned for dust issues, despite babying them. It is despicable that they released the v.2 without fixing that.
Depends on what you want to do. The x70 has a smaller Megapixel count. So if you want to do a lot of cropping the 24 Mpx of the Sony would be better. When it comes to stills I think the Fuji is better though as you can get very good (but also very expensive) lense options for the Sony a6000 you can get same or even better results with it. Video wise I think the Sony wins clearly. Its sensor is also meant for video capturing the Fujis is more of a stills only camera and video is only there because it is possible but the sensor isn't really made for video.
Don't ever quit reviewing guys. I love your reviews. Especially the beam of hope in an otherwise concrete and mundane life. You guys are poets!
I like this guy, he is a good speaker. Very articulate.
I bought the camera for its social functionality and ease of use, but most importantly its colours, people get too worked up about specs but at the end of the day, all that matters is ISO, Aperture, Shutter speed and whats in your frame.

one of the last few who really review gear without being biased. thank you.
The X-70 reviewed here better than I was expecting. Other reviews seem to be more negative. But you guys I feel are the most honest and down to earth of the reviewers out there...so I go by what you guys say more than others.
Calgary should use this review to attract tourists, "Beautiful dead grass yellow, rich and vibrant concrete grey".
I'm already on the edge of my seat excited to see the city!
Here in 2024 nearing December and it’s crazy to see these guys and how young they look. Huge fan!
Nice touch with the 2 white rabbits frolicing on the lawn of the cementary (left corner of the frame) between 1:33 and 1:50 - Keep it up (the good work) - you are the BEST!Best regards from Norway!:-)
The dumpster photo was really artsy, surreal even. You really are talented!
By which time you missed the shot.
Using the focus ring like an FN button to command ISO is a really, really cool idea. Really hope they bring that to the X100T.
Great review as always! Thanks for pointing out the downside of the leaf shutter...had no idea, but makes sense.
What do you guys think of Fuji's companion app? I think that would be a good addition to the review as younger photographers want to find the quickest way to get their photos on to social media.
Great review. I needed to know more about this camera to help someone use it and he covered all I needed to know.
How on earth did you guys record the audio on the busy street with moving cars without any noise from the cars?!?
+Teoh Yi Chie I think he's wearing a clip on mic
+Obed Rivera I've a lavalier mic too but I'm really impressed at how his was able to isolate the voice from the background noise that well.
+Teoh Yi Chie We used the Rode Filmmakers Kit for this video. The included Rode Lavalier mic rejects background noise extremely well. We do find the wireless units themselves a bit clunky and bulky, but the audio quality is top notch.

+TheCameraStoreTV Great advise!
TheCameraStoreTV Thanks for the info! Helpful!
Why dont you use the same model of camera while making your Vlog?
Killer sharp image.... thank you, FS5 :)
Hi. Nice Review as usual. But why did you completely miss to mention the ability of digital conversion to 35mm and 50mm??
That´s a very cool feature for a lot of situations I think.
The light and sky at 8:45 looks gorgeous. Did you get any good shots?
+David Rothschild The whole time we were there I wishing I'd brought a second camera to shoot a timelapse...
Jordan @ TCSTV
Nice video, love your content and happy to hear that you'll be posting regularly :)
Still sticking with my X100s, but the bride has offered to buy me the X70 for Christmas. I'm holding firm, but I may cave. Nice review. Thanks!
The Ricoh has a built in ND filter. I find the Ricoh menu system to be logical and easy to navigate but an articulated touch screen would be useful.
Great review as always! Looks like the Rx100 is still the way to go in this body style.
I don't see how they compare
+paradoxdesigns 1" sensor vs aps-c ?
Thanks for sharing! I laughed so hard during the "old tar on the road" bit. I love how this camera's video specs weren't even worth Jordan's time to say how poor they are :)
+Chris Prouse True, but who in their right mind uses Fuji for video?
BDB3003 Who's Fuji? ;)
Thanks for that hands-on, great!
Chris and Jordan you're the best.
Fuji actually claims that ACROS requires processing power that earlier Xtrans processors don't have. That's why it's only possible to enable it on X-Pro2 atm.

Hey Guys, you tend to fit lots of info into your videos, thanks guys. Good job.
Can you start/stop video mode via the Touch screen ?
why i feel the speaker is stand in front of a picture or screen or something, not only bokeh, but the color feels separate, why is that ,is there fill light ?
Good overview guys.
So its more like 4 shots per half-second. Is it too much to ask that a camera should be able to buffer for 1 second.
I'm struggling with the 2+2 together bit (4 :P) ... all i can think of is, did you do it? :D
Do fuji X70 have sunny day mode for lcd? kinda like sony mirrorles, (sunny day mode bumb the lcd contras so we can kinda see in direct sunlihgt). thx
Is it me or is the color grade for this video a little off? His skin tone looks really flat and yellow
All I noticed was Chris' shirt is the same color as dead Canadian grass.
+DavidSaganHD ive noticed that on like 90% of their videos, especially the ones shot on any sony
+DavidSaganHD it is normal... for Sony camera...
hey chris whatsup? what would you rather? x70 or g7x ii? im into photography. thanks man. cheers!
Noel Go same question😄
Do you guys plan on making a review of the Nikon DL cameras?
is there option for external viewfinder ?
malayneum yes
images looked pretty good. It is not quite x100s ?
How abt low light performance???

Another great video, much appreciated, look forward to the next one :)
Do you think Fuji will update this camera?
8:53 - best part hahaha. Great review!
"I'm gonna rob that man! Oh, it's just the x70. Nevermind."
You guys do such a good job.
IS THIS CAMERA AVAILABLE
The guy @ 8:56 is my favourite
hell there any idea what will happen to x70 user when its get discontinued? i mean for firmware updates?
Guys I like this new rate of releasing videos. I think you should sustain it forever 😆
where do I get second hand cameras in yyc?
How much did you pay for the fuji in that pawn shop?
I love this little camera. I use it for street photography and its next to invisible. I also like the digital tele converter. I can shoot 16mb JPGs at 35mm and 50mm focal lengths with no real loss in quality. I'm impressed by Fuji at how they pull this off. Sure, it would have been nice to be able to shoot at 35 and 50 in raw, but Fuji's JPG's are damn good and I can still shoot raw at 28mm focal length. I also like the articulated touch screen. And since the camera is so good looking I feel more handsome carrying it in my hand :P I also carry a small messenger bag so I can always put it in there if I want to.
i cant decide xt10 or x70 ...
I wanted one of these - however the price was prohibitive for me. I street shoot here in Chicago.
As of 2/2/2018 - you can’t find new ones in the US.
Dead grass yellow. Definitely my favourite outdoor color
Silly question maybe but how does exposure compensation work? I thought you did that with aperture and shutter speed. Never quite understood that.
It's quiet easy. Let's you use aperture priority, and you want your exposure to be half stop brighter or darker but as you know you can't change the shutter speed with aperture priority, exposure comp. will do it for you and it might change the iso instead depending on the situation.
+Display Name thanks for that. easier than looking it up.
hello i need your adivce you think it's worth upgrading a x30 with the x70 ? will it be night and day difference ?
What is it with you guys? X70 isn’t marketed as a video camera!
Great review guys...can you pls post a top 10 compact cameras.
That picture of the garbage bin was trash!
Are you guys going to review the new telephoto from Fuji?
The f/stop and focus ring is an issue but using the back focus button and touchscreen in manual focus can really speed things up.
What would you recommend more this or the lx100?
How come you do not mention stabalisation????
because fuji never have in body stabilisation... there's no need to mention it.
Any news about the K-1 review in April? I look forward to it!
which to buy as one and only camera to have: fuji x100t, fuji x70 or ricoh gr II
volim volim I'm wondering the same thing - did you end up buying one?

no, this camera use fixed lens
Fuji is a better camera other than the grip for big hands is what your saying?
what would be a direct competitor (like what model) from panasonic against the fuji x70?
I think the Panasonic LX100. Fixed lense but with zoom capability. M4/3 sensor but only 12 Mpx really used (depending on aspect ratio it uses other pixels from the 16 Mpx but never uses the full 16 Mpx).

I would like to know if the digital tele feature on this camera is good.
I was looking into this camera and was wondering if it was good for new users. Im not a crazy camera person but I like taking pictures on vacations or special events etc. Would you recommend this camera or something else in this price range?
What is a " price point"?
Did you guys review the GR II?
I agree with you Chris - you guys definitely do a great job! Subscribed!
I'm a bit confused because I'm a newbie. Doeas the X70 have zoom?
It has fixed lens, meaning no zoom on the camera, only with your feet

I still use the x20 which is a fantastic camera with a lens that zooms

i used to have a GS645W , which was awesome, why couldn't they just make a X100Tw ??? with a 28 lens
Hi, 1st of all tnx so much for this great review! I'm a bit concerned about the filter adapter because this makes

hi! what do you think is better? fuji x70 or sony alpha6000?
Easily a6000. Far cheaper and far higher resolution. Also you can actually upgrade your lens with the alpha lol.
What about the horrible shutter-lag?
Glad Fuji made this because I hope it destroys sales of the Ricoh GRII. The GRII is, while a good cam, is a dust magnet, with respect to the sensor. I had two, both ended up being returned for dust issues, despite babying them. It is despicable that they released the v.2 without fixing that.
instead of the "snap in focus"....use zone focusing on the fuji....perfect for street work
Really like your reviews
x70 or lx100??
2:47 Wow, look at that cement grave stone, it says that someone died in August 1941 and he is from Taishan, Guangdong Province.
is x70 better than sony a6000? which should i buy ?
Depends on what you want to do. The x70 has a smaller Megapixel count. So if you want to do a lot of cropping the 24 Mpx of the Sony would be better.
When it comes to stills I think the Fuji is better though as you can get very good (but also very expensive) lense options for the Sony a6000 you can get same or even better results with it.
Video wise I think the Sony wins clearly. Its sensor is also meant for video capturing the Fujis is more of a stills only camera and video is only there because it is possible but the sensor isn't really made for video.
