Modified Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T - One Take

- We didn't love the 2-liter version of the GenCoupe when it first hit the scene in 2010. The elements were all there, but it was missing something rather important: speed. Hyundai drastically improved the car for its second generation in 2013, but as we learn here, a few choice mods can really wake up the power of a first-generation model.
Haha he was just sitting there smiling like "sweet I'm cruising with Matt Farah " 😂
probably a little high lmao
He looked like a teenage girl that was wet for Matt
I would be wet
lol i bet he was a stoner. he looked high as fuck.
It's his first date
dont know why theres so much hate for this car in the comments. I picked up a bk1 turbo r spec for 4 grand and its the best money I've ever spent. brembos, lsd, 6 speed manual, low sporty suspension, and it came with a ecu reflash box to up the boost to 20lbs. its been more reliable than my 94 toyota celica i owned before. hyundai is starting to make a name for themselves in the sporty enthusiast cars. I think people are going to look back 30 years from now when all cars are auto and hybrid and regret being so hard on cars like this.
Those pre-facelift Coupes look way better than the later ones.
the grill is the only thing that ruins the bk1 front end
yeah the first Gen look good, second... not so much, looks more like a veloster front end.
Many people replace them with de-badged grills and they look like a way more expensive/exotic car. BK1 is my favorite in terms of look but it also has the best aftermarket and just a reflash alone will net it 50 CHP.
@@SI0AX the bk2 2.0 makes 65 more horsepower stock and a stage 1 tune is 45-55whp gain. Pretty sure the bk2 is a better tuning platform
I feel like I finally found someone that agrees! You got good taste.
Matt honestly these One Takes are one of the best things I watch every day. Bored every morning at work? Pop down to TST for something fresh. I feel part of the community, every day someone new with a completely different car, and I can never "predict" what sort of car I'll see.
I think this guy smoked an entire marijuana
my thoughts exactly. his face looked like a car ride was an entirely new experience for him. lol
I bet he grows meth plants too
Nothing wrong with that at ALL! :-D
+bludmakesgrassgrow Are you just trolling or are you actually that stupid?
He bought a Hyundai, you don't buy a Hyundai when you're sober.
Holy shit, the Genesis Coupe is not a very good looking car usually but damn that thing looks sleek.
Best looking Genesis Coupe I have ever seen
the smoking joint

Now THIS is good..... I should reserve the channel name now! LOL
haha
lmao fuck
Brilliant lol
I'm so back and forth on these cars. Some reviews say they have no steering feedback and just don't communicate stock. Then I see this and want to build one. I must drive one for myself! Thanks Matt
He looks cooked af lol
had a little bit of mary jane ~
If I had a car I were making payments on, I'd need to be cooked before letting Matt get in and beat on it! I feel for the kid! HAHA
+Robby94LS He doesn't have to let him drive it all, you know that right?
But it's all or nothing I guess, I'm the kinda person that likes to lay down some GROUND rules HAHA!! I would love to see someone refuse to let him drive and have SUCH an amazing car he just chats about it while getting pan shots and OWNER drive by vid. Or have the owner drive HIM.
+Robby94LS it probably had happened, more than once, and guess what, those vids never make it online!
I just did a review on a 3.8 Genesis Coupe. These are awesome cars and I love the fact how you have the option for the two different powerplants
If I whitelist this channel I still have to sit through the 30 seconds you take telling me to whitelist
Lmaooooo
Sweet jesus, those thirty seconds could really be put to better use I'm sure.
Just rewind. Anyway, how to whitelist this channel only in ABP?
and you just wasted 30 seconds commenting...
you click on the hand go to options then enable whitelisting of specific youtubes then go to filter and add to list
Good to see a female driver for a change..even though she has a deep voice!
Hahaha stop

Savage!
***** 😉
im weakk
Seems like a great guy! I've never seen someone so happy to have someone else drive their car lmao
There's a sensor at the top of the clutch pedal you can unplug to help out with the "rev hang". My '12 Veloster went from being a nightmare to practically fixed. A little hang is there if you pay attention but it's really next to nothing. You do lose the shift indicator and cruise however. I installed a switch so I could easily toggle for spirited driving/cruise control.
0:26 Lovee the wheels. And the way the Genesis coupe just looks in general. :)
Glad to see a first Gen genesis on the channel. Everything said here was true, I had a 2011 Rspec - it was ridiculously slow stock and when I put a tune and intake on the stock clutch started to slip.
For sale: BBS LM
Comes with free hyundai
$420
😂😂😂😂😂
Fuk lol
Sir you made me laugh with that comment
finally a comment worth upvoting
Lmaoo 😂😂😭
He just sat there with that dumb smerk on his face lol
He's high
Thank you Captain Obvious!
thank you i thought i was the only one! so i looked in the comments. like man this guy was such had such an annoying fucking smerk.
Finally, a Genesis Coupe one-take! Thank you!
That dude has got perma grin
Is that Olivia Munn's little sister?
LOL spit my drink out
lmao
In 25 years these will be desirable. Korean cars are blowing up like Japanese cars did in the 70s.
Something tells me the driving experience in a 2010 Genesis is a lot different than a Datsun 240Z. So I don't know about your logic. Then again, I am from Guadalupe and my mom's a Colombian meter maid writing tickets for the Cartel, so what do I know right?
thats the damn truth
Japanese cars were actually desirable back then. These aren't.
+Alberto VO5 well yeah the cars are a good 40 years apart😂😂😂
+dumkopf in the 70s?? Not really...anti Japanese sentiment from ww2 was still around.
ive white listed whole YT i mean 30 secs wont kill me and if it helps ya im good bc tnbh yall channels be helping my bored ass get through the week
Already whitelisted. Man I feel bad for not really knowing how youtube ads work for you guys, until a couple of videos ago, now I'm clicking the shit out of the ads. Keep it up dude
im surprised how good it looks with just stance and wheels.
this one take is entertaining...i still don't think i'd ever buy a hyundai but that kid seems pretty cool...the smoking joint
@TheSmokingTire
- All Genesis Coupes have hydraulic power steering, no electric assist.
- The rev-hang is caused by the cam phasing in the stock tunes as Hyundai simulates an EGR by changing the cam settings. A proper tune will fix it.
I reviewed my buddy's 2010 Genesis Coupe 3.8 and have always wondered what the difference between the turbo and NA version would be. Thanks for the review Matt!
I have the '15 RSpec and the power is solid. I am sure it's a lot move lively at 348hp at 3290lbs, its a lively fun drive. This from a former C5 Corvette (sprayed with additional 75). I would have to plan a trip from Kansas City unless you will be in the flyover states anytime soon!
I wish I lived in Cali so I could get Matt to drive my car and tell me how unimpressed he is with it. Ugh, life sucks.
Traction control just came on.... "Lets turn that off!"
Love it.
... kinda cool! I remember once if you had a Hyundai you got LAUGHED AT. it was cultural. neat how they've turned it around.
Hell, that turbo sound is awesome :D
The HKS SSQV sounds so much better once you take that whistley insert out.
Cool kid. Like seeing these younger guys into modding cars. Nice clean car too.
i just picked up the 2013 yesterday.
That 2.0 actually sounds decent un-corked.
Its cool seeing him drive "Tuner" cars Idk what other word to say. But its cool.
Time to review a 3.8! That's where the real fun is in the Genesis.
I Didn't get how going for a lighter flywheel may negatively affect the torque? any explanation would be appreciated..
Can't wait to get my Hyundai Accent 2.0T up to LA, Matt!!
He's soo happy to be sitting shottie with you!
Please folks! Disable your Adblock so that Matt can buy some more cars for himself so that he can continue bragging about them on his podcasts. He is struggling. He just sold the Delorean for $50k and now has the dilemma of whether to go ahead with his Focus RS order or to just get a GT350R or maybe even a 911. Show some compassion. It's not easy when you have a C5 corvette you never drive, a foxbody Mustang you keep throwing mods at, a Lexus you lend out to your friends, a...wait...sorry, I lost track of all the cars. Anyway, shut your adblock off please.
2010 1st gen had a bigger diff. nobody knows this golden nugget. cheers
that chick has a clean ride.
Rob Myers tbe engine bay was a little dusty tho
What if you have TH-cam Red?
red is great! we're good with that thanks!
my thoughts exactly
TH-cam red? Redtube?!
+Vanneker I subscribe to both, they have great content
Some countries don't have red available, like me...
This video should be re-titled "Matt drives a guy even more stoned than him around."
that kid smiled non stop haha
+The Smoking Tire Matt the first gen definitely deserved the harsh review you gave it when it debuted. I can confirm after owning one.
Guy reminds me of Edzel from LTT.
I didn't expect to see other LTT fans here, this guys voice is just like Edzels!
loll damn straigjt
Precisely!
+AGeeksTouch speaking of ltt. this guy n ltt r the only guys i trust when i buy cars/computer stuff
Mitchy Mitchy Mitchy
I'm still wondering why they change the look of the gen coupe the 2010-12 were imo the best looking cars in there class......
Smiling because he loves cars
I've been waiting so long!!
The blow off reminds me of the EVO III from initial D live action
It's an Evo engine, so your comment is warranted.
Cragon McBride I had no idea. Thanks for the info
+Cragon McBride it's similar to an Evo engine, except nowhere near as good.
+XenomorphLV426 Right. It was a joint venture between Chrysler, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai, and this engine is the second tier version of the three, with Chrysler's 2.0 turbo being the worst.
So far you sit through an ad instead of skipping it you make more?
Yes we do, thanks!
+TheSmokingTire hey Matt! Appreciate the videos, keep up the great work.
Sounds good Matt, it's off ... and hey look a Ford ad, at least its related to the content :)
Cheers from Toronto, Canada.
I have TH-cam Red. How does that affect ad rev generation?
I've been friends with Jackson since elementary school and he doesn't smoke lol. I can confirm he isn't high he was probably nervous. It's just the way he is lmao
Exhaust sounds good man
This guy looks higher than a kite lol.
That stunned Hapa is drugged up!
Matt, When you record these are you doing a 10 car marathon a day? Interesting to hear how close the reviews are together and how far back they are recorded sometimes. It sounds like you slave away for a weekend to get a few in the can.
I record 4-6 of these at a time. Most I've ever done in a day was 9. I once shot 6 and then did an entire 2 car review segment for NBC sports right afterwards, it was brutal. Then they get spaced out over time so the scenery isn't the same every day
TheSmokingTire very interesting. Pretty cool to understand some of the backend. Also goes to show you guys do work, not just ride around a bit in a car every once in a while haha. Thanks again Matt.
It would be cool to see a "making of" kind of thing. Choosing cars, location, camera gear & the obstacles you need to overcome to complete the project. Could be a One Take or anything really.
This one is finally RWD right?
yeah because korea wants to expand there market base
yep
Genesis has always been RWD
Bout time you got a genesis coupe. The new ones are MUCH BETTER! If you can get your hands on a 14+ 3.8 Ultimate Turboed.
Smoking Tire drinking game cue "this is a nice little car."
when he's under impressed
I'll never understand why people insist on moar lower, maybe it's car forum peer pressure, good job EVERYONE!
MOAR POWERRRR. See you have an abarth lol. People on the forums are always going on about making more power on them lol.
Rev hang as in when you are coming to a stop and the RPMs stay a bit high for a bit before they drop? My tuner told me thats put in place sometimes to prevent the car from stalling, it can be removed if requested.
Funny story, since I complained about the amount of commercials on another channel a few days ago I get nothing but banners on youtube. Which is more to my liking.
5:58 the donuts are off the charts :)
A lightened flywheel decreases inertia not torque. This only has an affect during the initial engagement of the clutch. Otherwise it "frees" up power that would normally be used up accelerating the extra weight.
lol exactly. Typical Genesis owner doesn't know what's he's taking about.
I've been waiting for him to do one! Wish he could do my 3.8 or one in general.
@TheSmokingTIre
Matt, regarding the temperature gauge, I don't know of a new car that shows the true temperature of the coolant. In normal circumstances the gauge fluctuates so much that people get worried and think there is something wrong with the car. The solution that most manufacturers have employed is to program the dash to only show you when its really, really hot.
ah yes nothing better than father and son going for a cruise.
I raced one of these with a 2000 Acura TL stock for stock and it was pretty fast. I beat him by a car but mind you I was alone and he had 2 passengers so I can imagine this car being modified and with him alone probly really moves
Look how much better that is! Excess drivetrain movement can also add to the sensation of rev hang. Firmer transmission or even engine mounts will help with that. Swapping to ACDelco 10-4014 transmission oil would put the cherry on top by speeding up and smoothing out synchro engagement. Good luck, happy tuning!
had my car for just pass 6yrs now... never had issue with rev hang... maybe is a hotter climate thing?
My Veloster Turbo rev hang was eliminated with unplugging the sensor to the clutch that controls the gear recommending junk. Not sure if the Genesis has the same sensor.
That is a really good looking man. Guess im gay now.
Hahahahaha
Hey tom. You're a douche. Have a nice day ya douche.
haha
Bwahaha. He's got that boy band vibe that pre-teens would swoon over.
I thought the same thing. Straight guy here but dayum there's something about him.
It looks decent, pretty heavy though. Hope Hyundai keep plugging away and deliver an alternative to the 86.
Had no idea that the genesis had rev hang. My kia soul does as well, is it true that its to help the vehicle meet emissions?
compared to other 4 cylinders it doesn't sound half bad
do you make people sign any paperwork when you drive there car that if you crash or lose control or someone hits you its not your fault ?
Looks like a genny driver.
This guy is baked af. The car is fine, but slow and does not hold up well at all over time. Falls apart. Hyundai doesn't do well with tuning in my experience. These cars always had a very grabby clutch, never got used to it.
Car that does not reward an owner for the time and effort they would put into it.
'this kid is baked af" LMAO
I'm 10 seconds in and this guy IS high hahaha
Doesn't hold up well over time? lmfao. They do. They have a better warranty than almost any other manufacturer.
As for transmission issues, the automatic Genesis Coupes have transmission issues. Manuals are fine. The only real issue is that rev-hang. But that's a problem with electronic throttles.
+Violetta Long warranty =/= holds up well over time.
Violetta warranty means nothing, the cars still fall apart. And the manuals do have issues too, the rev hang and the grabby clutches. Never, ever had a smooth driving experience in one.
The owner seems really cool not very chatty but guy been smiling the whole time ... I wonder if he's high...Hmmmmm ;) I personally prefer the V6 Genesis Coupes but i see the appeal of the 4 banger turbos ... nice car overall
Car manufacturers engineer was to make car break more often in place that is annoying. Rev hang is good for downshifts, but going up in gears in street driving or track, bring a small stress to the clutch. Definitely not good for aggressive driving. Of course upgrades are a solution. But coming to think of it, I do believe that stand alone ECUs or a proper tune can get rid of that. I would lay out my options and see what to do
Hey man love the videos you'll do but whitelisting on ad block plus is not that easy, what I ended up doing is also installing the original ad block and whitelisting you on that and just disabled ad block plus just for TH-cam but I do use ad block plus for everything else. Just letting you'll know, I don't know if you want to link a video on how to whitelist on Adblock plus but like I said they make it more difficult to whitelist on that versus the original Adblock
...BTW I like this car and how it's modred, especially those wheels, good job?
Matt!!!!!!! I'm taking some adds for the team buddy!!!!
That gear knob rattle would drive me insane...
Lightweight flywheel equals harmonic imbalance equals knock equals kaboom
why bake and drive, is it legal in California now?
Does TH-cam Red, count as adblock?
No.
No, content creators that are "verified" with that little checkmark actually get a slightly larger share.
It also got rid of a lot of the throttle delay, on throttle.
Waiting for the 500th video :D
clicking off those annoying ads just for you Matt!
Great video as usual. Nice to see a Hyundai with some decent mods. But the kid had me rolling. He must have said "Yeah" like a 100 times. Maybe he was nervous.
Wtf is with the rev hang tho lol? Is it necessary?
Yes this is a common feature for highpower street racers like this huyandai. It helps with the shifts and whatnot.
It's for emissions
I think the rev hang can be tuned out. I search "rev hang" and litterally the 1st link was a Hyundai Genesis forum so this is a common problem. Here is a copy paste:
"The rev hang (partial opening of the throttle) was put into the throttle body control in order to lessen the blow by gas emission. During the development Hyundai researchers experienced that if a throttle body
closes immediately, pressure inside the engine(crankcase) becomes so
great, it caused more oil vaporization than usual. This is quite normal
for any turbo charged engines, but Hyundai wanted even better emissions
and didn't want to deal with the "oil loss" issues. Thus by partially
keeping the throttle body open even after gas pedal has been completely released, pressure can escape from engine.
So, here is what we found out. Solution to the rev hang issue will be to fix the throttle body control codes in the ECU, install oil catch can and add oil every month.."
Taylor Remsen to burn off excess fuel in the cylinders.
So to improve emissions on an already emissions compliant engine, and so the owner doesn't have to check the oil now and then,, they add an annoying as fuck rev-hang on what is supposed to be a drivers car, which would piss of any serious driver. Logic.
"just smile, don't look awkward"
Can you post the link to paste into the White List software? I would love to support you guys!
Thank god for TH-cam Red
Yeah I remember your original view of the Genesis coupe, and then you did another one with the French chef! I thought Hyundai had fixed the rev hang with the later coupes, as several people on here left comments stating so.
