Gen 2 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8L - One Take

- The Hyundai Genesis Coupe was much improved in its second generation, with more power from both the 2.0T four-cylinder and the 3.8L V6, which this car has. It got a facelift, and is still one of the less appreciated cars in the marketplace. Let's see how this one takes to some basic modifications.
Check out the Genesis Coupe on Wheelwell!

One of the best sounding V6s I've ever heard. Nobody buys them because no one wants the badge. Fact.
I rather drive a for 1989 Taurus
The after market badge looks crazy nice in my opinion
Edgar legit drives a sx2.0 neon
Andrew Page nah he drives a Scion xb😭
Except me, best decision I ever made xD
If this car had a Nissan badge, people would be all over it.
David garcia no grasshopper, you are wrong.
Nissan do make great cars
I mean Hyundai did try hard to copy Nissan with this. The gearing is exactly the same as a 370z
David garcia exactly! and that's what so sad about this car
jjus jjoe
Cool story. I don't know where you're from. But where I'm from nobody looks at a Hyundai, dude.
I drive a 3.8L second gen. I don't understand why people hate this car so much. it's actually a really good car.
they hate the badge
Death To Ricers living in 90s? Those days are over my man.
Cars like this should be considered a gem for those tuning crowd. Easy to own, if not readily, parts available for upgrades. Then u get an unsubstantiated hate just for being Hyundai. Remember, going forward fromer BMWs M division boss Albert Biermann is deeply involved with their R&D. They have tools to bring Hyundai, Kia, Genesis world class. I think new Kia Stinger just showed that.
but my car is faster...
The reason that kept me out of one is that the similarly priced to a same vintage Mustang GT or Camaro SS.
4 years later and people finally appreciate the Genesis coupe!
You wanna know why it's not selling? Because they put 0 effort into marketing the car. I had no idea about these cars until like half a year ago.
Chris Mathy Not true. many cars are not marketed well and those cars sell better than this
its the badge, people of scared of any badge other than BMW
David Ha "many cars" don't necessarily have the hyundai nameplate which people stayed away from for most of the last couple of decades. So when people think your brand is suspect u need to put more emphasis than other brands do into marketing your cars.
why do people hate on matt so bad? he is such a likeable guy. he seems like hes got a good heart and has respect for peoples cars. is there something i don't know about. also people are making fun of his weight all the time, he not even that overweight. he is a beefy dude which is normal for someone who his 6,2 i would rather be beefy than a scrawny little punk. also he knows his shit on cars. idk i love his vids and i don't get what people have a issue with. also i love some of his comebacks in the comments.
Tyler Scigliano maybe your definition of "such a likable guy" is very subjective
King Jack meaning?
Tyler Scigliano Meaning a lot of other people may not think he's a likable guy.
King Jack thats why i asked for a quick explanation. did he do something bad off camera? because in his videos he is respectful and up beat. when he sees something wrong with a car he cautiously critiques it. i seriously look for something that could make somebody not like him every vid and i just can't. mabe his laugh but thats it. he is even respectable to the cyclist and almost every driver hates cyclist.
Glanderson Booper i just don't get it. i know im not supposed to let these people get to me but it does. people are so ignorant and quick to judge these days. im only 20 and i even come from a time where you are supposed to be respectful and find the good in people not tear them apart. i watch a lot of youtubers and %95 of the comments are negative. why watch something or someone if you dont enjoy it.
It's an entry level sports car...348 hp RWD coupe.... Makes perfect sense this would be on his channel. He also stated "he wished more people would appreciate this car"... I drive a Porsche and still enjoyed this video, because I am a car enthusiast and appreciate all sporty cars
vdubjetta02 348HP is not entry level.
A M definitely not. Lol.
I have a bike. I has 1 human power
Agreed. Hyundai doesn't have that popularity of other brands who have been making more performance cars for longer. So a lot of people write this off as "just another Hyundai" which is sad. But that leaves more available for cheaper! I have a F30 BMW 335i but I need a good daily driver so I'm strongly considering picking up a Genesis for that because they have so many great things any car enthusiast will love yet still somewhat economical.
I think an entry level sports car would be an MR2 turbo or a Miata
Such an underrated car, I'm sure it's great for escaping Guantanamo Bay and quick trips to White Castle.
to bad its not a Arab car moron. Sounds a ton better then that fake me out 'stang you got ROFL....christ, get back to the corner pushing.
You missed the point of the joke ^ 🤦🏾♂️
As someone who is indian...im not offended at all...that was a funny ass joke bro 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
maybe it's cold, don't make fun of the shifter
it's like a frightened turtle
Shrinkage.
Do you know what short shifter that is?
First rule of Korean driving: What's behind me, is not important.
gumball hehe
This is the perfect car for someone who wants a nice handling decently quick sports coupe that's not the most "mainstream" option. I love cars like that.
Holy smoking tire. So many comments on this owner's choice of vehicles (Evo, Genesis). The car looked and sounded like fun, so why not? I appreciate Matt sharing this driving experience in a car that I may never have the chance to experience first person.
The new(ish) V6 Gen Coupes are unsung hero's for sure. With stock power in the neighborhood of a Nismo 370Z and IPL Infiniti G37 Coupe MINUS the big price tag, you're getting quite a bit of car for the money! It's too bad that we don't see more of these cars on the road.
I wish you could review my Turbo 3.8 Genesis :(
Muscle Vs Tuner lost in the comments
I want to see this happen too.
Scrolled the comments just to see if you had commented. Was not disappointed
send him a message lol
I'd like to see Matt review your gennie
I've only heard good things about those cars, and i do completely agree: It does sound better than the Z-cars. Doesn't take much though. It's almost like saying a car sounds better than the current M3/M4.
I like that he is looking into suspension and wheels and tires, more so than putting extra horsepower under the hood. Good way to start.
It sounds better than a Z? You sure about that?
I think it does too, many people like the raspy sound of the VQ, can't figure out why lol
Raspy? You mean Chewbacca growl!
JohnnyNr5 the comp pacage m4 sounds goof
Package
Matt and Kumar go to white castle
That shifter is just inappropriate.
Because It is missing a shaft
😂😂this comment is hilariously weird to read
I have owned a 5.0 mustang, 370z and the Genesis and I have to say that the Genesis was by far the best out of the group. Way more superior of a car overall
justin cohen you’re crazy.
Nick F I second the crazy lol. Its nice but not 370z/5.0 nice haha
justin cohen 370zs are gross ugly and overrated
@@aaronp9835 370 you cant completely turn off the stability control so it fucks with you while your drifting. Id never buy a car that you cant completely turn off the electronic nannies
370Z was cool when it came out but now its just way too outdated and overrated. I drove one after hearing the hype from friends and was not impressed at the feel of it. Sure it was quick but it was just not nice to drive beyond like 5 minutes. And mustangs are, well, mustangs. Every other person on the road has em. Nothing special about em anymore.
Once he installs the turbo, the whole traded his evo X thing will make a lot more sense
Since a preteen in 2009 I've been in love with this car. In high school my first car was a base 2010 3.8 manual, now I have a 2015 ultimate 3.8 manual. I've thrown more money into it than any reasonable person should and I love it every minute. Hyundai really got it together since releasing this car, I just hope they bring it back for the Genesis brand. I can guarantee you I'll be buying one again lol
I've always liked the genesis coupe. It's a good looking car imo (I know most don't think so) but that V6 is under appreciated. It's nice to kind of see an everyday car featured every now and then
it's great that you take the time to make these kinds of video from expensive cars to everyday cars. This is what enthusiasts are all about, being able to appreciate and drive all types of vehicles without being totally biased.
I just don't get why so much hate? We are a car community and should be open minded on other cars. Yes we should have our opinions but we shouldn't be assholes about it.
Blue Euphoria yea I know not to mention most of these chodes don't even drive cars or at the very most drive their grandmother's Cougar or Honda Pilot. Just buy whatever car you want fuck what other people say
Blue Euphoria hyundais are shit
it's not "hate", it's just dumbass-ery
that word is so misused these days... it's like crying wolf (not saying you are)
'I just don't get why so much hate?' he says on the internet.
Hyundais just don't have a sports car brand image so everyone gives them shit. The brand is synonymous with crappy little cheap econoboxes.
Dude took the term "short shifter" a tad too literally. :P
Yeah I really did not think that the shifter length could go negative.
I have a 89 Skyline, a 92 FD Rx7 and a 2014 Mustang GT. I think these are decent cars and the people hating on it all ridiculous in the comments are not car guys at all. They are badge men and people who put supercar posters on their wall and say shit like "how fast have you got it up to". The kind of person that Gawks at my skyline and talks about how good a R34 is despite never having driven one and only knowing it from Tokyo Drift. I have 0 respect for them and think they are trash like the people who grew up in trailers near where I lived as a child.
My cousin is a car collector and he truly feels this car will be Hyundai first collector car cuz Hyundai is going way on top with there genesis line and this is the first genesis line you already go to dealers and prices are spiking up on the 3.8 2 second generation cuz of demand remember this car wasn't around very long less then 7 years and the second generation 3.8 3 years only so in 10 years you won't find many of them and there going to start being hard to find and quality wise I've heard they are pretty good.
In regard to the engines the first gen 2.0s are known to fall apart after 80k miles. 2nd gen 2.0 seems to be stronger and lasting longer. As for the 3.8s both bk1 and bk2 most owners report very minimal issues if any at all. They're much sturdier and remain strong even after 120k miles. My BK1 3.8 has 115k on it and is running just as strong as when I bought it.
I've always loved the Genesis Coupe. Glad to see someone owns a modified one. There's a red turbo first gen Coupe here in Vancouver
ease up everyone he explains why he likes it better then his evo. its a nice smooth daily car. the dude is happy let him enjoy it
Why is everyone so salty about the guy switching cars? If the Evo was that good, people would have bought it.
Buys a brand new car while in college and claims is on a budget? Man, I really grew up, poor!
You have to put your hand in trans tunnel to shift
What are your plans with the car? Turbo
What do you like about the car? It's N/A
They really are so underrated...some of the best specs weren't even mentioned. The bk2 3.8 has the hp bump to 348hp at the crank. But the r spec model has an LSD, 4 piston brembo calipers up front and back, sport suspension and thicker front and rear sway bars....all this in stock form!!! That is a great deal
Oh and they have one of the best v6 sounds
I have the 2014 3.8 R-spec and I love it. It is definitely underrated due to branding reasons. The funny thing, is I have begun to see more of them on the road as time has gone by. When I first bought it there weren't a whole lot of them around but that's circumstantial. Here's some things I like and don't like. PROS: Comfortable (front seats), affordable, long warranty (even when purchased used), good handling, good power, reliable. CONS: horrid back seats (no head room), interior quality is mediocre. I bought this car right before I started college. This car allows me to have some fun with extra power and good handling while having an incredible warranty. By the time I've upgraded my financial situation after college it will be time to move on. It was a great choice and I definitely don't regret it. If you have the chance to try one I would highly suggest giving it a go.
finally a 3.8L review instead of the 2.0L!
Why does everyone hate on this thing so much. I don't think they ever meant for it to compete with a cayman or m3? Thanks for the video, Matt!
The headroom issue is a bit odd. I'm 6'2" and my mirror moves around just fine. I can adjust it even higher if wanted. He might actually have an issue with his mirror, I'd have him look into that.
Have to admit, was bit surprised the exhaust was stock with just cold air intake kit. Sounded pretty badass.
Lack of aftermarket parts support killed it; not the lack of coupe popularity. The Toyota GT86 for example is doing quite well -- has a lot of aftermarket parts support. The same companies making aftermarket parts for Toyota won't do it for Hyundai -- at least most of them won't. In the end it's automotive politics. Japanese parts makers won't do parts for Korean cars.
Moralbro mostly because the top companies actually work with the car companies to create race and performance products and have a long great relationship together. Hyundai won't do this and don't have the same racing foundation.
There is a huge aftermarket for these. Just can't be afraid of waiting for parts to come from europe/japan.
Moralbro you nees suspension and wheels.. rest is garbage
Theres plenty of aftermarket parts for both engines, not sure what you're talking about. Yes it's not as huge of a market as an older civic for example, but you'll have no problem customizing the car as much as your wallet will allow.
Sina92 That's was what I was saying. Compared to jdm
Thanks for finally reviewing this car Matt. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Can you do a one take with Rob´s stanced MX-5 with a snow plow on...
Chrstian mrclep stanisied? What the fuck
rock I think he means stanced
Chrstian mrclep well Matt is in CA and Rob is in NY/NJ so that's gonna be difficult
We wouldn't be here if we liked looking at dicks in cars.
Matt only reviews performance cars. The only time he didn't was when a guy with a Prius lied to him about having a "performance tuned suspension" when in reality he only had a "stance tuned suspension", lol. Matt's opinion on his car was something like "sorry I just don't get it".
HAH, I was right! That was a Genesis Coupe BK2 I saw in the background of the 500 HP M4 video. Thanks for finally reviewing the same car as mine, Matt.
Idk why people are comparing this to Evo and GTIs when it's a bargain G37. That's literally what this car is aiming for. It's nice to drive, quick, looks great, roomy enough to carry 2 more passengers, a plethora of luxury options like...it's a jack of all trades, master of none.
Looks and performs better than a g37
I love one take reviews because he actually knows how to drive a cars.
I own this car it's great!!! You just have to replace some of the cheaper parts Genesis engineers had to compensate for to make it in that price range and it's actually an amazing car
I'm glad Matt pointed out the issue with the rear view mirror. It's something I noticed in my gf's Elantra. I'm also over six feet tall and I can barely adjust the mirror to the appropriate angle for ideal visibility. I noticed that her car is not ergonomically friendly in general. Button placement is not well thought out, and simple tasks like syncing your iPhone through Bluetooth takes longer than it should.
I'm 6'3, and I have a Genesis, I have no mirror issue
Benjamin Hamilton yeah I'm 6'4" and I have no mirror issue in my 2nd gen as well. maybe his seat was too high and he forgot to lower it?
Benjamin Hamilton same I am 6 2 and no problem. Love the 3.8L. Happy Matt did this video
Benjamin Hamilton Matt just loves mentioning that he's over 6ft in just about every video . Only physically dominant aspect he has besides being heavily overweight
I'm 7'0 and I have a Genesis, no mirror issue 😉
John Padron Bahahaha this is hilarious! Well done my friend
Just got my 2015 r spec, 23k miles for 16,900. The deals you can get on these cars are insane. Very good value.
*waiting for Harold and Kumar jokes*
Guess there is no white castle in the canyons. But that V6 sounds very nice. Better than the VQ. But that is just my opinion and is by no means the reflection of the entire planet.
what kind of name is Kumar??
he doesn't even look like kumar
what is that 5 o's and 2 u's?
He's Kumar and the car Is Harold since it's Korean
I wish you could come drive my 2013 Gen 3.8... I've done so much to it and have so much more coming in after winter... You'd be blown away at what just a little bit of mods makes this car 10x better
It might just be his car specifically. I'm 6'2 and i can see out the rear view perfectly.
Hey Matt, thanks a lot for all of your hard work with these videos. Keep up the good work, man!
I have one. gotta set the seat lower. 😎 to compensate for the mirror. I'm 6'3
Qbeezy so when the seat is all the way down, then what?
TheSmokingTire there's a power tilt that sinks the seat a little lower. it's one of the most annoying aspect of the car. unless he didn't have enough power seats.
stick a new mirror over the original and shim the angle to suit your preference
TheSmokingTire The top of the line model let's you lower the seat. He has the base model.
if you dont have a broadway mirror, you're losing anyway.
I'm glad someone finally got one out to you for a OneTake. I just put an axle back exhasut on mine and was about to make a wheel well Lol. I was extremely disappointed with your first gen turbo review Glad you liked it Matt !
I was mad about the first gen review too lol. Glad this one went well
Damn good car Kunar. Good choice
I really like the looks on this car
I want one I always loved these. .the v6 is sooooo much faster then the turbo 4 stock for stock. He said exhaust is stock? Maybe its just me but that was pretty loud for stock lol
Isit Fast? Induction noise from the cone filter.
I honestly doubt most people talking down on Hyundai have driven either of them let alone both, so credibility is already out the window for 70% of people commenting. I've driven a friends '09 Evo X GSR and have also test driven the '13 3.8l Genesis Coupe Track package. I agree with Matt when he mentioned the bit about the power band. The Genesis has power on demand, whilst the Evo X has a slow climb into boost. The way it put the power down was the biggest noticeable difference. Where the Evo X could take off the line much quicker, the power was split between 4 drive wheels. The Genesis only has to split them between the 2, so top end power was still there despite the fact that the Genesis is an N/A platform. Most of my driving was a mix of street/highway with both and I can say the extra 6th gear from the Genesis made a bit of a difference when it came to just cruising along. Clutch engagement was steady on both, though I think the Evo X's clutch was a little more forgiving in a sense. I'll definitely give handling to the Evo X due to its pretty advanced AWD system. Braking was almost kneck and kneck on both vehicles. Both great cars for what you pay for. So there you go, an honest opinion from someone whos actually had seat time in both as opposed to following the trend of just dumping on something because its the popular thing to do.
There probably wasn't a Korean engineer over 6' tall to test the mirror before final approval
Rum Runner S2K Koreans average height is the tallest in Asia
Twas a joke sir...Is the average height in Korea over 6'?
No. It's 5'9 just like almost every other first world country.
But if you're making a short Asians joke, you definitely picked the wrong country. Koreans have been considered to be the tallest people in Asia for hundreds of years. Old Japanese and Chinese journals warned of people so tall, they could kick you in the teeth while sitting down.
So you're saying there is a very good possibility there wasn't an engineer tall enough to notice the problem? I'm 5'9", I probably wouldn't have noticed it either
Just making sure, lol :)
It's a shame this car was discontinued, but atleast it's allowed Hyundai to step up their performance.
Everyone is picking on the guy for going from evo10 to a genesis, but what if a guy wanted a 2 door coupe with a v6? For buying brand new genesis is the best package, at least in Canada. Base R-Spec gets you agressive leather/cloth seats, brembo brakes, 19"wheels, LSD and of course 348hp. When comparing to 370z of the same price as rspec genesis you get lame seats, ugly wheels, small brakes that look like they are from nissan sentra and an open diff. Not saying that 370 is junk but it just costs more to buy with the goodies you want. Once there is a muffler delete on the genesis it becomes a popping machine, every downshift (does not matter how agressive) and some upshifts make loud pops and its a really good sounding exhaust for N/A V6, really sucks to drive on the highway tho but every pass in the tunnel will put a smile on your face. If I was in the market for an affordable rwd 2 door car genesis would be in my top 5
thur sti where you live in canada? ontario?
Brandon Hauser I live in Saskatchewan. I drove my buddy's 3.8 for a day and it was great. very different comparing to my sti but still. He just installed a Turbokits.com turbo kit on it, just needs to get the proper ecu and that thing should be one heck of a beast
thur sti, I might install a turbo kit in my 3.8 but it'll be around 6k ); lol. Nice man (: you have a modded sti?
Brandon Hauser i wish canadian dollar was equal to american like it was in 2012, rn something that costs 6-7grand in the us, costs us 8-9+ grand which really sucks. I am sure you will love your gen even more when you turbochrage it. My sti is nothing too special, just a catless turboback exhaust, and a stage 2 Cobb OTS map, definitely makes the car launch hard and make it feel amazing cause it doesnt loose traction, but on the roll its just a little bit faster than a stock genesis. Saving money for forged internals and bigger turbo, will be a while but some day Ill get there. Sti's are sweet but over rated, they feel fast but are not that fast
I know the exchange rate is high in the usa there dollars is 1.33 something like that are dollar is more like 60 cents lmao. Usa will have benefits to come into Canada but we wont if we go to the us :/. That's awesome man too bad you don't live in Ontario because id friendly race you lol. That sucks that you think they are over rated in power. They are nice looking cars tho :p. That would be sick to put a bigger turbo in your car will be super fast.
It sounds great! Been in the first gen Genesis Coupe 3.8 but I have yet to ride in the second gen
Farrah & Kumar go to the canyons!
I have that same genesis coupe and I love it. I have not had any issues with it at all
I've always thought the Genesis coupes looked really nice. I'd like to drive one someday. Many people hate on the car (as shown in the comments), but I'm sure they aren't even bad cars.
The Evo fanbase is huge clearly, and for good reason. But damn people needa' calm down lol.
Probably one of the most overlooked cool cars out there. I would have loved to see them gain more interest.
Something wrong with that rear view mirror. I didn't have that issue.
Me neither. I’m 6’ tall and the mirror is indeed about as tilted as it can go for me to see out well. But somebody over six feet tall could have a problem.
Gary Geiser right?! I’m 6,3” I remember that I could see perfectly.
I wish I would have bought one. I would love to have the 3.8 V6. Awesome car! That is incredible 27 to 28 mpg with a V6 Sports car? That is amazing!
I agree these cars do not get the respect and attention they deserve. When i was looking for a new car (had a 2014 Focus ST) I drove one that was a really sick deal. I liked it, but I was a little underwhelmed buy the power. For a car with something over 300hp it really felt slower than my ST. I think it was the lack of torque.... Now speed isn't everything, but it did turn me off it. I ended up with a new mustang GT, but I do still like the Hyundai as an entry level sportscar.
The power is at the top for the Genesis Coupe, you just have to rev it out
yeah it reaches peak torque @5200-5400 RPM and boy you feel it haha
Stevethepirate8973 Lack of torque? 295 lb-ft is low torque??
the focus st does 0-60 in 6.4 seconds...the 3.8 genesis does it in 5.2.
I think turbocharged cars feel faster because of the sudden and violent increase in power
I have a 3.8 and a turbo Miata and even though I know the Miata has less hp they both feel incredibly powerful
This car is very underrated. Congrats, enjoy it.
just waiting for all the butthurt 350/370z owners to call out Matt lol
eeshunique What would they be butthurt about? Z's are better in every way..
well, except one: Try sitting in the backseat of a Z.
Nick Motsarsky Not even close
Butthurt about what exactly, the Z lines kills the Genesis, the 3.8 is nice but nothing , and I mean nothing beats having a VQ when talking about a V6.
TripleM__QGTM I mean they are pretty equal. Plenty of close races between the two and most of the time it depends on the driver when we’re talking stock for stock. Unless it’s an hr or a nismo.
Always loved these cars, great value for what you are getting!
Matt, any issues with rev hang on this one?
I had a first gen 2.0 with rev hang too....annoying.
With the prices for reasonable mileage models of these, I'll probably be snagging one pretty soon. Have seen some decent models with about 50k miles for 15 to 20k. Seems like a hell of a deal, especially considering the current market.
Got that right. I feel the same way.
They are amazing cars
I like the car overall, but that shifter gotta go.....
Bro thanks so much for mentioning you are 6 foot 3. I am the same height and I was really worried about even fitting in that thing. I am confident now I’ll be fine after seeing you in it.
Apparently going from an Evo X to a Genesis coupe is a bad thing... idiots. It's called growing up. The Genesis is more reliable, better around the city, has that extra gear to not make his gas mileage shit. Being a car person doesn't mean you must own a cool car let alone a fast one. All these comments are about which is faster, which is absolute bullshit. Nothing wrong with Kumar's decision to purchase one.
an event with owners driving their cars in a timed lap would be pretty cool.
Where's Harold?
I know a guy with one of these and it's basically straight piped, don't remember exactly what he's got but it's sounds crazy, and he thrashes the fuck out of it
Just my opinion but maybe they didn't sell that well because of the appearance of the front end ("facelift"). The previous generation looked so much better, this looks like a damn Hyundai Accent. I still like it though.
This is the only gripe I have with mine. I'm thinking of getting it wrapped though so the grill doesn't stand out like that and hopefully get a little better of a front end look.
DailyDabber DailyDabber So it's not just me I guess. I'm not hating on it by any means it just looks too much like the other Hyundai cars. Especially the Veloster and Accent.
not at all many, many people hate the new front end but the back end looks better IMO
I think the majority of gencoupe owners agree the front grill looks goofy but tbh my main gripe is how good the rest of the body looks in comparison, it looks so disjointed
I'm 6'3 and have owned the first gen 3.8 manual r-spec for over two years and test drove a 2nd gen 3.8 and never had a problem finding a good rear visibility spot for the rear view mirror. I don't get it Matt
348hp 0-60 5.2 sec and 1/4 mile 13.9 sec.....M235i (6-speed) 320hp 0-60 4.8 sec and 1/4 mile 13.4 sec. Korean HP vs German HP
Ilya Elis yea but how much more is that m235i?
Mrchingon59 bought almost brand new top of the line m235i (all options + LSD) for the same price as Genesis MSRP
How much was your car? Genesis coupe starts at $26k and goes up to $33k with out options? A BMW m240i, which is the successor to your car, starts at $44K without any options.
Magic Juan Genesis Coupe loaded on website is $34.5, and that's what I paid. My MSRP is about 53k
Peder Hansen Weight is the same
I've always heard bad things about the Genesis Coupe... Good to see there's actually some stuff to like about it.
We're All Thieves the first gen's. Yes where as. The second generations are nice.
From a Evo 10 to a Genesis...That's like going from being straight to becoming a transgender.
To each their own man, no one's there to judge the man!
Try maintaining an Evo or WRX on a budget. The Hyundai is probably the best sports car for the money.
TyranitarComedian then get a Silvia S14 for real RWD fun..
The Gifted I had a stage 3 evo x and it was wack!!!! My buddy has a 3.8 gen coupe with intake and exhaust and I surprisingly enjoy it more than my evo!!!!
well thats strange...
Matt, Spin the mirror to what would be upside down then it will allow you more adjustment!
Matt, I'm happy you took the time to film my car model but we all know you wouldn't film this car by choice. Did Kumar ask you to do this for him? This car is slower then what you're use to testing. By the way, is this channel your own or is The Smoking Tire a company channel?
John Vu this is my channel. Therefore I decide what to film. No one is doing any favors.
are you sure that is Kumar and not Bruno Mars? I love the vast variety of cars you review, keep up the good work Matt. My favorite part of the day is watching your videos.
John Vu This car has 350 HP from the factory that's slightly more than most of these caymans he's testing....
i hope you realize those lighter caymans would leave this for dead
Imad S 0-60 on the cayman is 5.6 secs and the genesis 3.8 0-60 is 4.8 these are both times from the factory so no I don't think the caymans would be much faster with nearly a second slower 0-60. You can do a quick google search and educate your self. Also I'd look up the weight of this car as well if I was you because it's not very heavy not sure where you got your information bud.
Love my 3.8 bk2 rspec! Had it for several years and its been very reliable, even with the heat that Hyundai gets for reliability. I think the brand falls under the trap since they're so affordable the people that buy them either can't afford to do the maintenance, or just iignore it. I've got mine up to 145k. Lightly modded, headers ,intake, and a Borla exhaust. I had it walnut blasted to clean out the carbon at 100k. Only downside of direct injection. I eventually wanna build the motor and go with a DTOZ supercharger kit. I ended up buying a Elantra N a few years ago, so my Genesis dreams of modding are kinda on the back burner. Maybe if I find a big of 💰 😅
Kinda late on this, but the rear view mirror is upside down. Notice, how the lever to divert headlights is not there. Either the mirror can flip 360 on the ball mount or someone installed it upside down.
Definitely one of the best naturally aspirated v6's out there
In all seriousness though, I have a 2012 2.0t and the only complaint I have besides the bit of vibration is the excessive smoothing of boost. I need to test a bit more but it seems like it's excessively dampened on spool which is dumb since it's the point in the powerband that the car would probably feel the fastest. I really think a tune would fix that though, if it were allowed to build max boost as soon as it can.
The shifter looks like it collapsed when he ran into a pothole.
pfft unlike all the evo fanboys this will reach to 100k miles without losing a radiator. You have a decent mpg and daily drivers coupe idk why anyone gives hate for a 350 hp 4.8 0-60 car for a really good price
I'll have to bring my bagged 3.8 down to So Cal for a One Take once I finish my turbo setup!
Kinda surprised he felt the need to change the shifter. When I test drove one of the 2nd gens, The shifter kinda felt like the best thing about it at the time
The rear view mirror is one of the most important components in a Genesis coupe ;P
A few years back at a Hyundai event, I drove a Genesis Coupe 3.8L--I want to say it was the R-Spec model, but I'm not 100% sure now. Two things really stick in my memory: I was VERY impressed with the steering feel, which was just perfect for me. Not too much noise for street driving, but super direct and tight with enough feedback.
The other thing I recall is not so good. That 3.8L V6 makes 348 horses, and I swear that it does not even feel like 248 hp. That is not an exaggeration. I got the pedal all the way to the floor several times, and maybe it is just the lack of torque and a poor power curve, but that thing is not fast or sporty in any sense. This video didn't look too bad, but when you need more power, there really is nothing in reserve.
if you clearly don't remember then its not a genesis coupe.. 2013 and up are fast as shit I raced a 370z and beat it no problem.
with tunes and he had tunes too.
Just because I don't remember the exact equipment, you think I don't know what car it was? It could have been the Track model, but they both have the same engine, so what does it matter? It was the year that it came out, so probably 2012 or 2013, yes.
Also, no they are not that fast. Most of the auto mags clocked them at 5.2 sec 0-60, which is quick, but not what you would expect from 348 hp. Even in handling, we have this from Car & Driver: "When Car and Driver took a 2013 Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec to Virginia International Raceway for its yearly Lightning Lap time trial, they posted a time of 3:13.9 around VIR's Grand West configuration, 0.1 second slower than the 306-hp 2011 Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec and slower than the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Ford Mustang V6, Chevrolet Cobalt SS and Nissan NISMO 370Z. They were unsettled by its tendency to power oversteer, and its brake fade."
12.9 and down it just depends so far I got it down to 12.9 and only went to one drag race track been too busy to go.
eb110americana Time out. If you drove a 2012 it did not have 348hp. The hp was increased in 2013.
first gen 4 cyl was a BETA engine (tiburon) with a bolt on turbo. this one has the THETA engine (sportage, santa fe, sonata, optima)
