    Great way to start the day,
    I went for the 2.0T, as it offered more customization options over a longer period of time. Also each individual mod is cheaper than the 3.8, as that requires more money for less upgrade.

    I test drove both 3.8 then 2.0 in 2012 brand new. Never wanted another 4 cylinder so drove the 3.8 first. It rode ruff and glad one of the streets I test drove on was not well maintained to find this out. The car felt front heavy and hit the bumps like I was driving my dropped s10 truck with 18 inch rims. Told the guy I did not like the way it drove but loved the look of it. Young car salesman said I would not be wasting his time and asked me to drive the 2.0. I agreed and I loved it right away. The car felt lighter and handled better. I never owned a turbo and it had plenty of power for my everyday driving vehicle to commute to work. My dad went with me and said he felt the difference sitting in the passenger seat and the suspension just felt better. I still have the car 9 years later with 83,000 miles on it today without any engine problems whatsoever using Royal Purple oil.

I have about 4,500 miles left on the warranty. When it expires I'll do some bolt-ons and a tune. This car has been a blast to drive around the back roads of southern Maryland. • @FatalFist
      @FatalFist 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Slap a turbo on the 3.8, give it something like 50hp through 4-10lbs and you'll never regret it. Just be mindful of the internals, the power you put down the more likely something in the engine can break. Still, a 3.8 non-boosted is such a good investment.

    • @FatalFist
      @FatalFist 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Forced Induction You want to balance around the engine. 500hp sounds nice, my comfort zone I want to grab for my 3.8 is 400. But at some point, you're breaking parts so it all depends on the life of the engine.

    The neat thing about the 2.0T is that it comes turbo which allows for more modulation options but spending less. With my 3.8, I could turbo it but it'll cost me an arm and a leg where as you can at least mess with the 2.0T before having to replace the turbo with a bigger one. Stock for stock, the 3.8 is more powerful but you can get further with the 2.0T's through the headstart they get.

    I have a '15 R-Spec 3.8 and never thought of getting the 2.0T. It was always the 3.8 or a 370Z or FRS/BRZ. Come to find out you can put on a bigger turbo on a 2.0T and get more of a power increase without costing an crazy amount of money. Just got a custom tune, downpipes, testpipes, and a Ferrari Asna Mid Muffler and what a difference. The car really is opened up. My main gripe was the throttle response before and it cleared that right up along with a gain of 37whp for a total of 276whp. I do Autocross and also had rear and sway bars added with Michelin Super Sport Cup 2 tires. I think for AutoX purposes the 3.8 trumps the 2.0T. Second gear holds well for this car. The next step would be a turbo for the 3.8 but honestly I'm content at the moment. The turbo for the 3.8 comes then it's forged internals to get more boost then your looking at the cost of what you could get a Camaro ZL1 for. This car your right isn't necessarily sought after for raw power it's for looks and over drivability which I'm happy to say I'm enjoying very much at the moment.

    • @remainingrex9471
      @remainingrex9471 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I may be wrong, but I believe the genesis is lighter. It would be a good race, for sure. I think a full bolt on 2.0t Genesis would win due to the P/W ratio, but the 2.0t ecoboosts make almost the same HP as a 3.8, and stock.

    • @bradleyisfishing
      @bradleyisfishing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@remainingrex9471 the genesis is lighter by about 40 lbs but is down 35 hp and 75 tq. I also think mod for mod the ecoboost will make more power. I am a little more than lightly modified now (bigger intercooler and e30 with an exhaust) and I’m making around 410 at the crank, and I feel like the genesis probably won’t respond the same way. I do still think they are good looking and fun cars though.

    The automatic was better until 2014, when they upgraded to carbon sincros for the manual, I also bought the car with 10k on it because it was just sitting there on the lot and I was blown away by the styling, out side and inside.
    So I’m the second owner, I have owned a few cars in my 73 years on this plane of existence, first 1963 MGB, then 64 GTO, then 68 SS396 3speed manual, then 67 327 Corvette , then 69 427 Corvette both manual transmissions.
    I’ve also had an 83 Audi Quattro turbo, and several Bimmers, my 69 427 vette at 465 HP could do 0-60 in about 5.8 seconds which was flying back then, this Gennie is faster and handles 100 times better. The only car I loved driving more was my brothers 93 white NSX, but again the Gennie is faster. I’m glad I got the 3.8 because I think in the long run it will be more reliable. Less internal pressures and heat, I do worry about carbon build up but have devised measures to deal with it. So keep up the cool videos and I might add some of my own soon.

    I chose the 3.8 (M/T) over the 2.0t because:
    -the 2.0t needs thousands in mods to hit the same crank HP, if done properly.
    -I can spend my thousands on body kit, hood, grille, etc first and still hit the same expected power marks as a modded 2.0t
    -either of these motors making over 500hp should be getting some really serious components. Rear end, transmission, and lower end building. Not to mention the upgraded valve train, intake, exhaust, etc. Either way you're in for $10,000+ if you want something reliable. No reason not to stick with higher HP output, better sound, etc. Until you're ready to drop the big money on proper mods.
    So the 3.8 makes the most sense for the highest avg HP over time modding it.
    Although since the 2.0t models are cheaper, there is much more aftermarket available for them. I'm a mechanic as my day job and have fabrication supplies so the lack of aftermarket for bk2 3.8's does not scare me away from them.

But, glad I did because 13+ 3.8s with the GDI engines have really bad carbon build up that cause the engine to prematurely implode on itself in 50-60K miles. the 2.0t was before hyundai went with GDI 2.0Ts engines like they do in the new N cars. I assume the new GDI engines will have the same issue as the other GDI engines. My 2.0t with a stock turbo, tune, and FBO is faster then any non-boosted 3.8 out there. I love the turbo sounds and spooling of the 2.0t as well.

    Lighter weight, better MPG, mod-ability, the TQ of a turbo 4 could definitely be more preferable for certain driving styles, having the smaller motor "underdog" aspect, without even watching the full video I can see why someone would go for the 4. gonna watch it through tho.

    I would love this car but I can't get passed the gas mileage. My Sonata 1.6T gets about 38 mpg.

    I own a 2013 genesis coupe 2.0t premium (canada). I go with the 2.0t for winter driving and turbo torque. Since 2 years I got intake, catback, donwpipe, colder spark plug and sfr 1.5. But the best upgrade except the tune is upgrade my open differential To an factory LSD from bk1 track and wow not same car even with stock suspension !!

    Hi there. Liked your video. I am thinking about buying and r-spec 2.0 manual. My 2 alternatives are BRZ and bmw 128/135. And my only concern about the genesis coupe is the handling. I have 2 questions, maybe you can help with that.
    1. Does it feel easy, light and fun to drive? (I mean on a track or twisty road). How long does it take to turn the steering from lock to lock? Does the car feel agile?
    2. In corners, it feels more like an understeer or oversteer car?
    Thanks in advance for your response

      Thanks! The handling all depends on what you do with your suspension. Stock it handles really well. Running coilovers it handles even better and you have a lot of adjustment ability. The BRZ is a nice looking car but lacks power. There’s a lot of potential with the Genesis platform.

    well , i'm looking for a genesis coupe on europe , and the reason why i look for a 3.8 it's because it's a V6 , sound beter , the 2.0T sound pretty good but i always wanted a 6 cylindre car (or more, no mater V, VR, in line or what ever ) with ISR race exhaust the car sound amazing (a bit too loud but it's not for daily driving) , i search a BK2 , less issue but if i find a good 2.0T , bk2 not to expensive i'm probably gonna buy it

      @@VehicleEvolution I live off i97! Best place in America. Trying to decide between 2.0 and 3.8. I’m leaning towards a 3.8 n adding the Turbo. I know it’s expensive but the payoff is 500HP. Buying one b4 August.

    All I need to know is which ones more reliable

    So I’m buying a 2.0 2011 driven only 121k miles. It’s salvage but it’s the door nothing huge, automatic as well. wanting to know is it reliable? The most I’m doing with the car is swerving few cars in freeways, doing pulls nothing crazy like donuts, drifts etc. I‘ll be driving it chill a lot of the time and it is my first car, I’m not really gonna beat the car up since it is daily as well just few pulls here and there nothing huge as I said. Is it worth buying? Also the only things I’ll be changing is things very small like tint windows, louder exhaust, small interior changes but absolutely nothing huge like change add anything to the engine or make it any faster. I just want something sport to drive daily to my job, school, gym etc and hang with friends
    Edit: I heard the car leaks a lot of water, I also heard when you take the car on a wash the water gets in through the tail light and when there’s water inside and it’s a hot day out it can ruin the tail lights. I also heard there is vibrating on steering wheel going 70 mph. Are these problems I’ll see from the way I’ll be driving it?.
