Wildlife biologist here: I'd agree with Sierra, they are Humpbacks: 1) small hooked fin 2/3 of the way down their back, 2) low wide blow, 3) white underside and long tips on their flukes when they sound (dive deep). You got all of the key identifiers on video - excellent job!

8:45-8xx Love your sunglasses Sierra. They reflect the light well. We see the camera tripod. Make sure Billy is fully clothed when you shoot with those sunglasses.
Visit Mandahl Salt pond..Go through the jetties into the Lagoon and pass through the little pass into the pond..The pond is the safest Hurricane hole in the Virgin Islands, maybe the Caribbean..Is only 4' deep across the entry bar..Around the corner is Tabor Bay..Really good waves there... Then visit Magans bay.. Very nice anchoring by the beach..Across from Tutu point is Hans Lollik Islands.. Largest privately owned Island in the Caribbean.. Straight across is Coconut Bay.. Great anchoring spot and the owner gives you permission to do as you like..Then around the corner from Magans is hull bay.. Great snorkeling and beach and you have Hull bay hide away..Best beach bar on St Thomas..Ok have fun..!
My wife and I were at Megan's Beach. When we were there, the water was very dirty, and birds were diving into the water to catch fish. We did not go into the water. I think the water was dirty because the beach was at the end of a very long but narrow cove prohibiting charges of water. Maybe dirty water because of the incoming tide and we were there at the wrong time. I would not go back. We were there about a year before the hurricane hit the Island. :¬) Webhead USA

It's been 30 years since Ive been in St. Thomas. Sierra is correct the whales were Humpbacks. I saw one breach in the bay while our jet landed in 1988.
Sorry to see that you are selling Adrenaline. So maybe you can start on your first book about your adventures. It will be a best seller no doubt. Enjoy some time together. Unwind and know that I will be waiting for the next path you both decide to embrace.

Hull bay, surfed there back in the 80s. Liberty Cruse in the navy. I traded spots on the boat so I could go just to catch some waves.

If you want a very knowledgeable and informed point of view on mushrooms, try the mushroom man in Paramus NJ. I believe he is an Engineer whose hobby for the past 35years is mushrooms. He is aware of some 300k different types and knows all the edible verities. I hope this helps. Myself, I would ask the local women or a chef in one of the restaurants.

You guys were on Little Meggen's Bay Beach. It's a nude beach. One of our favorites.
We have one those in far northern CA. Its crazy, you can be on the beach in the middle of the winter, its to isolated, sun, sand on your body, your warm. Amazing. especially the volcanic hot spring beaches. wow.

Good one. I’ve been to Megan’s bay a few times on cruises. I think there are much better beaches. Megan’s bay is very touristy

I would have never thought surfing in st Thomas was a thing
those mushrooms are not eatable but those ones are used for tinder to start a fire and because it burns super slow they often used to keep the fire from yesterday going to the next day and don't have to start over to make new fire saving a bunch of time

Are you making any trips back to Long Island? I`m not sure we would ever go back after watching your trips... But that 100 mile trip on that 1967 whaler was pretty impressive.

In terms of quarantine/injections and the the paperwork required to take a dog from one island to another, is this a lengthy process with annoying red tape and continuous trips to get her vet checked?

When we were at Megan's Bay one year we had to get off the beach because Bill Clinton was jogging on the beach you were standing on. They were staying in one of the "shacks" on the hill behind you. Screwed up our vacation 😡
Take a ride to "Hill Top" it's a beautiful Vista of the entire island.

Magen's Bay pronounced with long A (sounds like Maygenz). One of the most beautiful public beaches anywhere! It does get busy when cruise ships are in port, but that is not happening right now.

You should swap your chain end to end very 6 months so you get use out of the whole chain and not just one end of it

Looking at the wear pattern on your chain I am going to guess that it is nothing to do with your windlass. It is obviously wearing itself away against itself depending upon how long you have had it and how much you have used it I am going to guess it is cheap chinese chain.
Important to remember that half the diameter is not half the strength. If you remember at school finding the area of a circle your chain is as strong as the amount of good metal at its weakest link. Not a pun it is where the saying comes from! So if you apply the formula Pi X R2 half the diameter is actually less than half the strength. See and you thought you would never use maths!.
