      The tent's mounting hardware will fit onto the Thule crossbars but we only certify vehicle's for tent fits when they have Yakima bars installed. We simply can't test and/or ensure every other manufacturer's crossbars will stand up to the rigors of a rooftop tent.

    Very excited and interested in this RTT. But I don’t get how if the Medium (Larger of the two) weighs 122lbs, my factory side rails won’t work with this system. Especially if I use your cross bars, that are rated for 165lbs?
    Current vehicle is a 2012 Nissan Rogue.
    I’d love for someone at Yakima to reply with an answer.
    Also, if your market is the recreational camper, rather than the Overlander. Then why wouldn’t you make it a point to make your rails suitable for the Skyrise RTT

    • @Mak933
      @Mak933 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YakimaRacksOfficial Why would this require a lengthy explanation? Either it can do it, or it can't. If the weight limit specified is to be adhered to for dynamic forces, such as driving, then specify a secondary (static) compression/weight limit that is higher than the dynamic weight limit.

    Yakima 2 person Rear Deployment Holes were not aligned and would set on the edge(Makes putting one set of bolts stick out. called the 800# (not very helpful, told me to email the pictures- not seem to friendly and assumed their product was perfect)
    The company that I bought it from REI is another Story (they are Great Friendly staff and got to know our local members)
    I will probably just go to them for help and just purchased Thule Racks for my Fiat, should have done the same for my bike racks.
    I did get it at a Great Price at REI even though the box was damage and made a hole in the bottom tent and defective(Holes was not Drilled correctly Im assuming for the 2 person tent. Didn't bother to call them Back due to first impression,

    • @KevinHolsapple
      @KevinHolsapple 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I ran into the same design flaw with the two person tent. When you mount the brackets for rear deployment they overlap on top of the small clamps for the cover mounting straps. This keeps the clamps from sitting flush against bottom of the tent floor. As a result, the bolts provided weren't long enough to reach to bolt the clamps onto the bottom of the tent floor. I called Yakima customer support (plus submitted pictures) and they told me they would get back to me but I didn't hear from them again until more than a week later, and even then they didn't provide any help. I ended up using some longer bolts I had instead, but that is less than an ideal solution - the longer bolts block the clamps from sliding freely in their rails. This problem could have been avoided by positioning the pre-drilled holes a fraction of an inch closer to the center of the tent. In addition, I encountered one other design flaw -- the cover is undersized and does not reach to the front velcro (when using rear deployment) - I even sat on top to try to compress the tent down to close and there is a half inch gap or so. If I were side mounting, maybe I could have enough leverage to get the cover in place. A good cover sizing/design would have left enough slack in the cover to leave a sleeping bag and/or pad in the tent and still be able to close the cover without undo effort -- I guess I'll have to fashion a supplemental cover to slide over the front to keep things dry and secure. Disappointed with these things, but otherwise I took it on a fun, first camping trip.

      Hello and thanks for contacting Yakima. Our current tents are classified as three season tents so they aren't specifically designed as a snow tent. You could use it in winter but be careful to avoid heavy snow loading. No flames or heat producing devices should be anywhere inside the tent.

    Will the lift gate open on a 2018 Subaru OB with the tent on top? Deployed?

    • @YakimaRacksOfficial
      @YakimaRacksOfficial  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello,
      Yes, the tent will absolutely work with the tent installed. You may have some issues with the lift gate with the rainfly poles but as long has you have the tent deploying from the passanger or driverside and not the rear of the car I think you will be okay with minor issues if any at all.
      Any other questions let me know!

      Weight limit for Small size is 400 pounds, Medium size is 600 pounds. The Small is 7 feet long and the Medium is 8 feet long. I would recommend the Medium in your case to ensure plenty of head room.

      @@YakimaRacksOfficial He refers to certain parts and pieces as the "long side" or "thick side" which is not apparent at all because he doesn't show which side to use so thats not helpful at all. He also installs about 30% of the hardware without washers or various other parts/pieces right after saying to use them. It seems that he was more focused on making a cool video than showing instillation. His video dialogue and the actual instillation are completely different. Finally for 1800$ the design of this tent is awful, reminds me of a 1980's mountain hardware tent... a bunch of extra stuff that doesn't really function properly. Sorry for the first comment, I was just frustrated after spending 3 hours trying to install the tent via this video, I turned it off and was able to use common sense to complete the instillation.
