  • Welcome to another video about Tana! Today is a short one and I want to share with you the easiest way I see to get started using Tana if this is your first time using a more flexible app for knowledge.
    There are two kinds of people I come across in the Tana Community. People who are used to tools like Roam or Logseq where you can dump things in and find them later. And people who are used to more structure in Notion or Obsidian.
    So whether you're coming from either sides of the spectrum there are two things you need to do to get started in Tana to feel confident to find things again. And they are Capture & Search.

    THIS at 4:55 is exactly what I haven't been able to find in any of the (it feels like) 100s of videos I've watched about Tana - use the Library for stuff you want in the sidebar. It's obvious now... but I haven't seen it actually explained anywhere. Thank you Ev!

      Glad I could be that lightbulb moment Dave!

    You're super warm and bubbly, makes it so easy to listen to you compared to some of the other (also amazing) drier content out there.

    G'day Ev, I'm a very new Tana user and Ive been struggling to get my head around HOW to use this app. Thankfully, I discovered your videos. I can't wait to get into my Tana workspace tomorrow. Thanks so much!

      I’m so glad I could inspire you Jason! Having a blank slate can be daunting!

    Great video Ev. I'm on the waiting list and wondering how Tana handles web content capture and local file attachments (PDF's, etc.)

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most things are manual at the moment, so no plugins or extentions for capturing web tools. PDF functionality I don't believe is in yet.
      But I've seen these guys implement features fast over the last few weeks - so it wouldn't be far away.

    I got access today! So live searches (queries) seem like the various views I could create for databases on Notion, except much more flexible...am I on the right track here? I have used Roam and Notion and just trying to relate to what I know as I get my feet wet :) Thank you for your awesome videos!

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes correct 👍 If I was comparing live searches I would compare them to linked views in Notion

    You put Notion and Obsidian together 🥴
    Thanks for the video. I still find myself saying, "I do that in Obsidian". 🤷‍♂️

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m sorry!!!! But I couldn’t put obsidian with roam & logseq. Maybe it just stands out in its own

      @@EvChapman Obsidian is closer to Roam and Logseq than Notion.
      I do think it has its own corner 😁
      I don't have Tana access yet but would love to do a comparison? 🤷‍♂️

    Hi ev is there a quick capture from anywhere method on desktop with keyboard shortcut? Be nice to add a node into Tana while I’m working in another application

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can use shift+ cmd+E anywhere for a voice recording (but not text input right now). CTRL if you’re on windows

    Hello Ev. Can you tell me how to create block quotes in Tana ?

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure that' possible just yet. Markdown/Formatting is limited to just bold/underline/italic

    Are you using #task instead of #todo here? #todo seems to be the default supertag for tasks in Tana.

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am. I like to divide my tasks between work and personal, so I created a separate supertag fo my work tasks

  • @TTisodi
    @TTisodi ปีที่แล้ว

    what if you forgot to add tag while you were capturing? You can still find it with live search include the node that has ‘task’ tag?

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman  ปีที่แล้ว

      To find it in live search you need to add the tag. But you could use the top search bar ti find it & tag it correctly

    can you create more than one db with one account in Tana? like separate vaults in Obsidian...

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep! At this point you can create unlimited workspaces (vaults)

    How long does it take to get access after joining the waitlist?

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman  ปีที่แล้ว

      It didn't take long, but I signed up way back in October. I know they are working through the list as fast as they can

    Just to make sure - there is an ios app for it? (sorry for a repeat question)

    • @EvChapman
      @EvChapman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No iOS app yet, but I believe it won’t be long. I’ve used it in browser on my iPhone and it’s ok for quick entry/browsing which is all I need right now
