Perfectly described procedure in the video. No wasted moves, no verbose video "ego" nonsense, just straight up good info. Fixed GF's 2016 GMC in 20 minutes. Changed sensor first- issue remained, so a month later did the thermostat, and that fixed it. As Danny suggested, probably best to do both at once. Thanks Danny.
@@captinhoop The fan stayed on our Tahoe when the truck was turned off and the coolant temperature gauge bottomed out at 160. Danny had a video of the same thing happening to this vehicle in the video. I changed the engine coolant sensor. Fan problem went away but the vehicle coolant temp has trouble getting warm past 180 degrees and if it reaches 210 it doesn’t stay there. I am going to replace the thermostat this week . I think the same happened to Danny because there is footage in this video that was in his coolant temperature sensor replacement video. If you plan to do it yourself I would do both the sensor and thermostat ar the same time, will safe you time and money on coolant. If one goes out I think the other is either also bad or not far behind.

Excellent instructional video. I replaced both the sensor and the thermostat. It ran fine for about a week after the sensor. Just changed out the thermostat. The fan is still running. Do you have any suggestions?
So, I changed the temperature sensor and the thermostat on my 2015 suburban, but my gauge is still reading 160 and the fan stays on after I turned the engine off. Does it only reset if I unplugged the battery terminal? Okay. So I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery. Then, after a few minutes, reconnected it and everything worked great! I checked for leaks and had to top off the coolant, just a little. Thank you for this great video!
No prob. In the future you’ll also want to disconnect the negative battery terminal when working on anything electrical so it never shorts anything out. 👍🏼
Would this help fix with the fan staying on after the car is shut off? Even though its not over heating? I replaced the thermostat sensor, but it still seems to think the car is hot. The gauge is reading 160 and the check engine light is on. Its giving me a P128 reading on my diagnostics reader. I am wondering if this needs to be replaced as well. Great video! Thanks!
Yes, that code indicates the car is running too cool, so most likely a bad thermostat that has stuck open and lets too much coolant flow and overcool the engine
My suburban temperature gauge sometimes don’t read the temperature I did replace the temperature sensor still haven’t the same problem I should change the thermostat too
Did the thermostat you order come with any other gaskets to put under the thermostat? I replaced mine, it came with a gasket that I left inside the thermostat just like how yours came. But mine still leaks from the bottom of the thermostat. I made sure it was on there snug but it still leaking very slowly from the bottom of it. Not sure if this has happened to anyone else.

@dannyjohnsonsgarage yes it was disconnected during the repairs. And our next thought was a bad fuse but I don’t know which one according to our manual. I have a 2019 GMC Yukon Denali 2WD.
My fan cuts on and off from time to time and I replaced the sensor but it still comes on. Could this also be the thermostat I have to change? Because a shop told me I should replace the fan but I’m not sure they are correct about that.
Yeah, the thermostat sticks open and over-cools the engine. The fan comes on because it recognizes the engine should be hot and it’s reading cold. It’s most likely the thermostat
