    I was in the process of buying a used 2017 out of warranty, but after watching your video & doing some more research cancelled. The answer to "what can go wrong" is literally everything. Minor annoyances, and all important major components (engine, transmission, suspension, climate, electronics). This is coming from a Toyota background where I'm used to driving high mileage vehicles that have never needed anything aside from normal service - oil, tires, brakes.

    Great review video Danny. We have a 2015 GMC Yukon SLT. Currently has 168,000 miles on it. I plan on doing a million mile challenge on it. The only major problem we had so far was the air conditioning not working on it a couple of years ago and the actuators for the back door sides opening. We got it fixed. The repairs were a little over $2,000 but we have an extended warranty with car shield so all we had to pay was $100 deductible. Our CS plan is $109.99 per month and unlimited mileage coverage. We bought the plan before our dealer warranty expired and are grandfathered in. As long as we keep paying the monthly plan it will always be good. I think it’s worth it in my opinion. We are going to keep our warranty plan in case the transmission ever needs replacement. Would not want to have to pay as it would be a lot for transmission or engine repairs and were fine with the coverage plan cost. We also had a fuel pump leak but that was minor and CS didn’t cover that. It was a little over $300 for that repair. Still love our Yukon. 😊

    My family has always had Yukons in one form or another, and this one is the absolute worst. In addition to all those 'little' problems, the transmission blew out at 80k miles. Not to mention the slow-as-heck infotainment system. Quality went out the window with this one.

    I own a 2018 Yukon SLT and really love this vehicle. I too suffer from moisture getting in under that GPS antenna and fouling the native map system. I'm not going to spend the $1100 bid to fix it as I just use Android Auto and get the maps that way. I've had it for 10 months and have already done 5 substantially long trips 1500-2000mi and really have enjoyed driving it! Had a 2013 SLT with 170k mi when the lifters decided to start playing games. Let that one go and I don't look forward to this one giving trouble in that same area, I hope.

    Indeed I have 2018 Yukon SLE and I had a repeated problem in fuel sensor. Once I fill the fuel tank the fuel gage is not reading as per actual . After investigation the dealer discovered that the fuel sensor is malfunctioning. As it was covered under the factory warranty the local dealer replaced the sensor four times!!!!
    Now the warranty period is over…
    And I’m watching and hope not to see this problem happen again 😅

    I have a 2016 and just noticed a ticking in the engine. took to dealer and found cylinder 4 misfires with a bent push rod. they rebuilt that side of engine only and on way home check engine light came on. took back and they found that the misfires and unburned fuel caused the catalytic converter to burn out. that was replaced and back on the road after $4300 in repairs. be aware it can be very costly when this happens. also taillight and ac went out as well as the transmission at 53k. I like my truck and I'm thankful I got the extended warranty!! they say GMC is the upper line but I beg to differ! I f they are what they claim to be then GMC should Admit to these common issues and cover them!

    Just bought a 2015 Yukon XL Denali 4wd with every option offered, including power retractable running boards. I'm excited but nervous too, because I've heard horror stories of transmission replacements and AFM problems. After a week so far, it seems to run great other than a code that says the O2 sensor needs replacement and a cracked windshield I'm already getting replaced. Once my windshield is done, I'm taking it from Texas down to Belize in Central America, where it's hot all the time and the AC blows cold so far in all 3 zones 🙏.

I also had to fix the Wireless charging . The motor on passeger seat is very exposed making it prone to easy damage. If you have tv screen just get ready to replace after 1-2 years. Re: the AFM and associated lifter collapses - if you have the "M" option on your shifter, just put it in there and it won't shift into 4-cylinder mode (so I'm told - my 07 Tahoe doesn't "M" mode). Or get the Range OBD device to software deactivate the shift down into 4WD. Another way to help prevent the lifters issue is to change your oil every 3k miles rather than when the oil range thing says to...helps prevent that sludge/gunk buildup that kills the lifters.
    Change the transmission fluid every 30k, religiously.
    2007 Tahoe 4WD/5.3 with AFM/226k miles. No transmission or severe engine problems to date. Only issues I've had are (1) it randomly shifted itself into 4WD at highway speeds, (2 & 3) a knock sensor and the dang Oil Pressure Sending Unit (x2) needed replacing, and the (4) charcoal canister needs replacing due to P0455 (Large EVAP Leak detected). Been incredibly comfy and safe.

Both brake lights completely stopped working, the console lid phone charger stopped working and the lid latch broke, the Stabilitrack is out and the message center keeps showing driver assist also is in need of service. There engine has a ticking sound and the A/C needs to be charged every season. The gaskets around the back door openings keeps coming off and the trunk latch broke. I noticed the hood was hazy a d I went to a body shop to get it checked and as I thought the paint is dead on the hood and the top of the vehicle from the windshield to behind the sunroof. hey Danny, Thanks for the video feedback. I came across this while searching for solution for my issue. My 2016 Denali xl shales at 70 mph and above. I balance the wheels multiple times, aligned the wheels 4 times, Put brand new tires and balanced and aligned. Now I changed the whole set of wheels (2023 Denali wheels) still no fix. I noticed that on highway speed while coasting it shuts 4 cylinders. That is when it shakes.
    Your advise, suggestions and findings are valued and appreciated.

      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine just had a bad lifter so I am also deleting the 4 cylinder mode (known as displacement on demand (DOD) or active fuel management (AFM). Its possible the 4 cylinder mode is to blame and can cause worse problems when it fails. Its just a huge job, so youll see it soon on the channel. Try putting it in 6th gear manually to keep it in V8 mode and see if it helps. If it does you can buy the obd2 plug in that turns 4 cylinder mode off.

    with about 75,000 miles, sounds like it's failing, quality control is poor and many other people other higher mile 2015+ (even the 2007-2014) sound like they are falling around. many issues stemming from manufacture defects.

      Absolutely. Even with less miles it has had the problems. I always tell everyone to see my playlist when considering one, and decide if they are ok with the issues (my videos who how to resolve just about all of them). It will have a lot of small issues, but after they are resolved it is a great, powerful, great looking SUV that does an awesome job. th-cam.com/play/PLIjr-uSYDZi7J7EQ1ErTn1Yzi6ET_3Ssr.html

      I do think it’s very sad for how expensive the vehicle is and how reliable they have been in the past- however, it is still a very nice, powerful SUV that has been great aside from the issues. Each brand will have their problems and I’ve otherwise been very happy with it and really enjoyed how well it tows and it’s spacious, comfortable interior. It’s a great suv for a Dad who can do some of his own work, but not for anyone who is not adverse with mechanical repairs

    Wow. Great info! Thanks! My daughter recently spun out on the ice and wrecked my old 2003 Escalade she was driving. Had to give her my 2014 Yukon and hurry up and buy another. I found a 2019 Denali with 67k miles. Put a 4 yr service warranty on it. My biggest issue right now is I need a grill guard. Had one on the 2014. The adaptive cruise is going to be an issue with putting a grill guard on this one. If anyone knows a work around, I’d love to hear. There are Waaay too many electronics on this Denali.

    I have an engine tuner for mine to shut off the cylinder deactivation. I get 20 mph on the hwy so I don’t get the point of the cylinder deactivation. I also change the transmission to shift later and firmer. The reason you’re compass doesn’t work is the gps shark fin leak and then it corrodes. I replaced mine with aftermarket one on EBay and it all works again. They do have several minor problems but still nothing comparable for comfort, highway travel and towing.

  • @MatthewPerenick-b8h

    Hey Danny, like your video. Your compass and navigation issue is your antenna on top of the truck. I bought my truck used with that not working. Took it back to the dealership and they replaced the antenna under warranty and it fixed the problem. The design of the original antenna is poor. Water gets underneath it and it shorts out. The new design fixes that problem.

    It doesn’t require a data package for the compass and navigation and you can adjust the volume of the turn by turn. Mine turns the radio down when the navigation is talking

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may depend on the year for the navigation volume. It says I can turn it up and down but the voice commands don’t change. I was also told wrong on the navigation and found out it’s the antenna
