My family has a 2016 GMC Yukon XL Denali that we got brand new and it currently has 136,000 miles and the only issue we’ve had is the A/C condenser. Other than that, we’ve just done regular oil changes and other regular required maintenance. It’s been a great vehicle and it is still in great shape. It’s actually the same color as this Yukon in this video. The Crimson Red Tintcoat. Beautiful color. Its crazy when I see that so many people have had all kinds of issues with them. Over 6 years and a half years and 136,000 miles, the only thing my family has had to deal with is the A/C condenser.
2016 Yukon Denali. So far I’ve had: 1) taillights go out. After fighting with the dealer it was replaced under extended warranty. 2) charge mat go out. Didn’t replace. 3) AC condenser crack. Replaced myself and took to Firestone to recharge. 4) 3rd row automatic seats. Broken cable inside. Haven’t replaced. 5) Transmission fail. Had to pay out of pocket 7k to have replaced. Out of power train warranty at 70k miles. 6) rear DVD player screen fail. Haven’t replaced yet. 7) Magnaride shocks go out at 60k miles. Honestly this car has given me so many issues I’ll never buy a gm vehicle again. Just sharing my experiences.
Been looking at 2018 yukons but after hearing about all the issues you had and other people have had. I'm really leaning not to get one. It's a great looking suv but I just don't feel like dealing with this stuff. And for what dealers want for them, i feel like you shouldn't have to.
Same here. Had every problem you listed. Brake pads wore out waaaaaaay to fast so.i put 16 wilwood calipers. The AC went out too. I fixed the monitors by replacing the ribbons inside. Front differential also leaked. Smooth ride plenty of room, but definetly made NOT to last
I have a 2016 Yukon XL and the taillight did go out. Thru TH-cam research, I discovered GM actually issued an extended warranty on these because the community complained of these faulty taillights. So both taillights are covered for 2015-2019 models. Completely free, and if you replaced them prior to the GM extended warranty decree, GM will also refund the cost of replacement. So at least they heard how bad these were and made amends. Just be sure to make the dealership look it up. This is true . The Service Advisor Will know about it . It happened to me in 2020 Omggg. $ 700.00 for Tail lights . But the Extended warranty covered it. Now I wanna know is how do you change the LED to regular bulbs and you won’t have this problem again ! some Tahoe’s have that already bulbs somebody out there know how to change it over please let us know.
They waited and only did it after being faces with a lawsuit. Then gave a low number on it because they knew most vehicles are out of that warranty. Even though we took ours in twice under 75 before they replaced the light s they didn't honor it. Will never buy another GMC after paying 90k for an SUV and it has spent close to year in the shop in it's first 5 years
I had the same problem with my tail lights going out on my 2016 Yukon. Dealership was hesitant at first to warranty but I had plenty of papers and reviews of people receiving an extended warranty as this is a big issue and GM is very aware. They finally did repair for free. Saved me $1400!
I had the brake problem, exactly as you described, so was the fix. Problem is it took weeks for the dealership to figure it out after throwing a lot of other parts at it. It wasn't UNTIL I HAD TO FIND IT doing some research online. In fact it was such a common problem in 2018-2020 that GM added an addendum to the warranty ("Enhanced Warranty") for 10 years/150,000 miles just for the braking vacuum pump problem! This is a very scary behavior when it happens. Thankful we figured it out. Great vid, keep it up!
Had #2 happen to me. My issue was the LED light strip had a crack in it, so the metal didn’t stay connected. Had to cut open the plastic and solder it back and it worked. If you do need to replace the light, buy it yourself for about $350. Super easy to install. Repair shops quoted me about $900.
I don’t know that you’d want to show the general public, but the tail light circuit boards can be fixed, I’ve done both of mine. There are 2 places that are susceptible to circuit board cracks, accessible by opening a 1/2” square of the plastic above them. The top one is most common
Thanks for the video! Own a 2015 Denali and just done changing the problems you mentioned. It is a common problem that if you want to own one??? You better be able to fix it yourself. Or it’s going to be money in the bank for the dealership. Once you able to fixed those problems yourself? Pedal to the metal. I love ❤️ the truck. Very powerful truck and a convenient vehicle for everything. 😃👍✅
Just sold my 2015 GMC Yukon Denali, so happy I did. While I loved the car, it was issue after issue. 1. Magnetic Shocks seriously broke every 4 months or so under normal conditions 2. A/C broke twice 3. ECU failed while launching a boat, leaving me stranded for hours 4. Transmission slipped through 1 and 2 all the time, luckily sold the car before transmission later failed. 5. Sensors for parking and cruise control failed, but never fixed because GMC quoted me $1500 for diagnostic and servicing. 6. Random service and warning lights would occasionally pop up, which indicates a major electric issue. 7. Taillights broke twice over course of a year. 8. Rear heated seats didn’t work since I purchased the vehicle. GMC said it wasn’t covered under the warranty, car had only 60k miles on it. While I love the GMC lineup, after 4 years of Yukon ownership, I’m not sure I’ll ever purchase one again due to the unreliability, and expensive cost of ownership.
I have the 2015. The taillights were a definite problem. In the stupidly designed circuit board there are some areas that are so thin and narrow it easily breaks obviously losing the proper connection. I soldered it back, worked for about a day or so. I did this a dozen times at least. I want going to pay over $700 bucks just for one tail light. I ended up finding a great looking set on Amazon for about $300. Haven't had a problem since. I didn't like spending$300 for tail lights, but it sure beats OEM at less than half for both!
We had a TRD Pro 4runner now we have a 2017 suburban drives amazing only problem was the radio at startup would give a blue screen and rear view camera gets foggy got a new radio and camera replaced with extended warranty. If you buy used get warranty already with that it almost paid for itself repair order was $2,200 warranty paid. Other than that we love the vehicle its fully loaded and is so much better than the 4runner.
I just got me a electric scooter to go from the dealer to the rental car co, my 17 Yukon xl is always at the dealer 'warranty' lol used to own a 2014 Tundra never saw the dealer except oil changes, I agree its better in space but not mechanically 4Runner is Armageddon ready will cross oceans and go through the end of times twice
You should revisit this vehicle. The 8 speed torque converter shudder, the shocks wearing out quickly creating a unsafe ride and last I have is the ac system giving out.
Torque converter was a pretty serious replacement. ($1500 repair) taillight trouble too! I have 127000mi. and my biggest complaint is the gas cap vent gives me an engine code and remote start will not work. It's such a pain and it clicks off every time you're filling fuel.. The little things are always the ones that bug you the most. Absolutely love the car
We have that issue with our 2017 GMC Yukon SLE also. What was the remedy? For the code due to the check engine light. I ran my code reader and it said it was the evap system condenser.
15 Yukon XL SLE. Vacuum pump went within the month I got it, 89k miles. The dealer did it for free because it was inside of 30 days. Currently it has 115k miles and all is well.
LOVE this video!! THANKS!! Giving my husband my Escalade and going to get a Diamond White Yukon. I usually order parts online and do most of the repairs myself. I wanted to know what to expect. Love Yukons, but haven't had one for a few years
What about the AFM or DOD problems?? Or the transmission torque converter internal bearing? Or the carbon build up on inlet valves as it is direct injection?? Or the transmission cooler thermostat getting stuck and overheating the transmission ??
Google “Range Technologies” for the AFM override. They are one of the few options that do not require a tune or any reprogramming of the ECU. Other options that reprogram the ECU and then claim “don’t leave a trace because they can program it back to stock specs if you want” aren’t entirely true b/c the dealership software can apparently see how many times the ECU has been reprogrammed. Plug and play, just plug it into the OBD-II port and it’s V8 all the time
The other issue with the tail lights I've found is the LED lights are installed on a flimsy circuit board that have weak spots that eventually crack due to vibration. I would have thought this would have been point #1. There are several videos on this fix.
Have replaced the vacuum pump on 2 silverados same engine, and also a/c condenser on 1 that’s my experience so far since my customers don’t have many of those
Where is the third brake light fuse located? I have looked up every manual and even the GM fitter manual, but I have no idea what I’m looking at when I search that
I own a 2015 yukon xl sle. Water pump failed at 38k wtf right oh and had too recharge the ac. Got her new with only 6 miles lol Iam going back too TOYOTA. My camry 150k miles and just changed the alternator and tensioner pulley WOW AND water pump still OG
So I bought a 2015 Yukon brand new, I have had to replace the fuel injectors, which the dealer will tell you that you have to get new fuel rails as well. Also have replaced the thermostat, myself. The tail light issue is with the actual board to the LED’s. Solder that together and put hvac tape to cover small cut in back of tail light. Need to replace the ac condenser as that crack on the upper right hand corner due to lack of support. Also have to replace the brake vacuum pump soon as that is the failure for the brake issue. Bad design, 2018 and newer got a redesign to correct the issue. Only thing left is the fuel pump as the seals start to go throwing the MAP error. Love everything else about it
Just had new Michelin shoes and alignment and front tires on the inside are almost worn! Any ideas?? I noticed today when I was installing leveling kit from suspensionmaxx. Has mag ride struts
Should’ve spoken about the lifters I had to change both lifters at less than 40,000 miles on a brand new car GMC 2018 SLT as well as the starter had to be changed at 40,000 miles
Ones you remove the front shocks,do you need,to do alignment on the vehicle I working on a 2015 yukon denali, with a air suspentio,a magnetic front shocks I need to replace.
How bout a vibration or stutter in drive but goes away in park. When I say drive it’s at idle, feels like a misfire. My Escalade did same thing, both 2017 models.
2018 yukon Denali xl, when I brake and it squats there is a horrible wrierrr sound. I got under and had my daughter brake and it's in the disc or unit inside the rim?
Having an issue with what I think is the starter making a sqeak/chirp noise only at intial startup and is gone in a second. Replaced tensioner and serpentine which shouldn't of needed to be but still have that noise. Would greasing the starter fix this and is this a common issue? Your thoughts please. Also it's a 2017 HC with 6.2L
I have a problem on my 2015 the touchscreen went out a month ago only the reverse camera works and I get no audio from the speakers. It also says audio off
Sometime my collision light ,engine light and traction light will come on in my Denali 2015. It acts like it is going to die and has once. Several things have been replaced. The mechanics can not figure out what is wrong with it please help!
I got a 2019 Yukon Denali I got 25k miles , does any one have the same year model and did you have any problems before you hit 100k ? thanks any Info would help to be ready and expect it

My neighbor drives a 2016 chevy suburban, he had two problems with it, first problem that he had is the censors weren't working properly and the next problem was the AC.
Enjoyed the video, but I hear (perhaps mistakingly) that these have frequent transmission failures. Perhaps that was on the trucks, but i know several people who actually got rid of theirs because of transmission failures
He does not cover the actual problem on the tail lights. There is an LED strip along the edge under the plastic. That strip is very thin and will crack at the top or bottom corner. To access the strip you have to cut into the plastic. You can then solder the cracks back together. Be sure to cut into the area as clean as possible so you can recover the holes with the pieces you cut. Then use some strong water proof adhesive. I had to fix both of my taillights at separate times but it is easy enough. GM should have recalled these... Search youtube for videos on how to do this repair.
I have gmc yukon xl 2018, I'm having the very mild rough idle and my RPM needle not stable on idle condition and having very mild vibration in the cabin but no issues while driving and in performance, I already got throttle body from GM and said this vibration and that much rough is normal but it's not normal for me so could you please tell me possible fix for this problem
Sounds like my problem with my 2007 afms. Take it to a shop performance that will delete it from your ecm. Sounds like they're still making the 5.3 crappie. That afms will eventually kill your engine.
My 2018 had the same rough idle. They changed motor mounts. Nothing. So I just got a Diablo tuner and raised the idle to 600RPM. These things just idle to low. My was around 500 and sometime dipping under.
We just bought a 2018 GMC Yukon XL and occasionally it won’t start. No instrument lights or interior or exterior lights will come on and the key fob won’t do anything. I disconnect the negative cable to the battery and wait about a minute to reconnect it, then everything works again. We are not sure why we are having this issue. Anyone have any ideas?
Hey Len! Great Video and very informative! I have a 2016 Yukon XL SLT. I have a question for you and hoping maybe you can offer some insight! It has the fuel management system that uses 4 cylinders when just cruising and uses all 8 when I am on the throttle. I am noticing a consistent vibrating when it is only using 4 cylinders and I am just slightly on the gas. I pretty much have to get all the way on the gas and kick it up to all 8 cylinders to get it to stop the vibrating... Please let me know your thoughts! THANK YOU!!
The single biggest,, most expensive, unresolved issue with 2015 -20 is the vibration in drive line (chevy shake) and you do not even mention it. are you paid by GM to ignore this issue?
I have tahoe 2016 model no crank no start the engine i do the scan the car no communications instruments cluster And gear shifter light not showing bcm communications and ecm also communications what happen i replaced the underhood fusebox and same problems do not start the car what happen please help me and transmission also communications
Hey do you know hiw to find out if these yukon or suburban have the active fuel management. Are all equipment with afm or are there options to get one with out
Anyone had issues with anti theft deterrent, no start/crank? Been at the GMC Dealership for almost 3 weeks and they haven't gotten it to start either. 2016 Yukon Denali XL
The whole thing is a giant problem. I have put over $10,000 in part and labor into that POS. This truck has made me never want to buy another GM product again!
Great information - But I would like to know how To Convert the Stop lights- LED into Regular Bulbs. Most Tahoe’s have Bulbs not LED !!!😳 This would help on not PAYING $ 700.00 !!!!!!’ Please help . Thank You

Just replaced the taillights on 2016 yukon One of the easiest repairs ive ever done. Took it 15 min in my driveway

Bad design, 2018 and newer got a redesign to correct the issue. Only thing left is the fuel pump as the seals start to go throwing the MAP error. Love everything else about it
Oh and the typical GM transmission cooling lines are leaking. Dealer wants $900 to replace....
$75K garbage. Have 2019 Yukon slt only 21K mi. Tail light went out already.
@@peterobukhovski7599 There's some pretty good videos on how to fix the tail light. I fixed it 100% with a solder kit.
@@NelsonBrosGolf what about the 8 speed transmission
Just had new Michelin shoes and alignment and front tires on the inside are almost worn! Any ideas?? I noticed today when I was installing leveling kit from suspensionmaxx. Has mag ride struts
Thank you your program is educational
I've read that alot of these vehicles have lifter problems? Why wasn't this included in the 5 issues? I am hoping its not as common on this one?
Excellent video on obscure issues.
Should’ve spoken about the lifters I had to change both lifters at less than 40,000 miles on a brand new car GMC 2018 SLT as well as the starter had to be changed at 40,000 miles
Brake booster vacuum was recalled and Chevy fixed mine free of charge
Ones you remove the front shocks,do you need,to do alignment on the vehicle I working on a 2015 yukon denali, with a air suspentio,a magnetic front shocks I need to replace.
#6 popping when turning in parking lot maneuvers, could be felt on steering wheel
I feel a slight scrubbing when I do turns
Did you figure out what this problem was...mine do the exact same thing
How bout a vibration or stutter in drive but goes away in park. When I say drive it’s at idle, feels like a misfire. My Escalade did same thing, both 2017 models.
The only problem my old Yukon had was when my ex drove it. Otherwise it was fine.
2018 yukon Denali xl, when I brake and it squats there is a horrible wrierrr sound. I got under and had my daughter brake and it's in the disc or unit inside the rim?
Very good recommendations thanks

We have a problem where ours slips or jolts when barely going 10 mph and when I start breaking it also jolts could this be the transmission?
Having an issue with what I think is the starter making a sqeak/chirp noise only at intial startup and is gone in a second. Replaced tensioner and serpentine which shouldn't of needed to be but still have that noise. Would greasing the starter fix this and is this a common issue? Your thoughts please. Also it's a 2017 HC with 6.2L
It's the starter itself. Fixed my 16 silverado
On mine it was a heat shield that was loose by the starter . 10mm bolt!
Is this for the 6.2 or the 5.3 L engine?
+ABC Photography This video is for all model GMC Yukons between 2015-2020.
My seatbelt locks up a lot is there anything I can stop that and it makes it where I have to take it off and let it roll back up
Try a little grease
I have a problem on my 2015 the touchscreen went out a month ago only the reverse camera works and I get no audio from the speakers. It also says audio off
Sometime my collision light ,engine light and traction light will come on in my Denali 2015. It acts like it is going to die and has once. Several things have been replaced. The mechanics can not figure out what is wrong with it please help!
Any luck with problems? Im having same issue.
omg I have this problem right now!! Did you get this resolved?
What about the dod afm system thats a big issue for these motors
Delete it and you won't have issues
Yea buy a tuner that you can delete it and you won’t regret it I’m getting on road trips 30+ mpg but do have basic bolts one tough
I got a 2019 Yukon Denali I got 25k miles , does any one have the same year model and did you have any problems before you hit 100k ? thanks any Info would help to be ready and expect it
Andrew have you had any problems in the last year with the Yukon?
Did you say Vehricle? with an r?
Rebuilt transmission car shudders a and jumps any suggestion in the problem

+JPR Thanks for the feedback!
My neighbor drives a 2016 chevy suburban, he had two problems with it, first problem that he had is the censors weren't working properly and the next problem was the AC.
+William Maduli Thanks for the feedback!
I have 2016 gmc Yukon xl the second row seat don’t fold with the bottoms any ones know what happening please let me know thanks
Enjoyed the video, but I hear (perhaps mistakingly) that these have frequent transmission failures. Perhaps that was on the trucks, but i know several people who actually got rid of theirs because of transmission failures
+ParkerTC Thanks for the feedback!
+Tommy Duke Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
Cancel the V4 system
@@machy1877 how you do that cancellation of v4?
@@machy1877 how do you do that?
Sounds like my problem with my 2007 afms. Take it to a shop performance that will delete it from your ecm. Sounds like they're still making the 5.3 crappie. That afms will eventually kill your engine.
My 2018 had the same rough idle. They changed motor mounts. Nothing. So I just got a Diablo tuner and raised the idle to 600RPM. These things just idle to low. My was around 500 and sometime dipping under.
Any easy way of removing the 3rd row 60/40 split seating on a 2019 GMC Yukon SLE?
Why you want to remove it? Just fold it down you will have a flat surface
Side steps in passanger side retract off and on 2016 Yukon GMc Denali they can’t seem to fix
I’d like to see if you can open the tail lights like you said can you show me
I have been looking at GMC yukon. I wonder if that covers the Suburban in those years
+ronnie cardy Thanks for the feedback!
It’s the same car, so yes.
THANK YOU!!
Hey Joe, I get the exact same problem in my 2016 Suburban. Did you ever figure out what it was?
The single biggest,, most expensive, unresolved issue with 2015 -20 is the vibration in drive line (chevy shake) and you do not even mention it. are you paid by GM to ignore this issue?
I need help with another issue on mine??
I have tahoe 2016 model no crank no start the engine i do the scan the car no communications instruments cluster

What about the vehicle starts fine drive just stop sign and it won’t drive it’s like in neutrol
You forgot to mention the AFM lifter problem that these vehicles have.
Hey do you know hiw to find out if these yukon or suburban have the active fuel management. Are all equipment with afm or are there options to get one with out
What a piece of junk. I’ll pass. No longer interested in buying one. You didn’t mention lifters, the carbon buildup or the transmission overheating.
man I had same issue with breaking with my ltz 2017. it was scary .. worst car ever at 30.000 miles everything was going wrong
Thanks very good useful video
Anyone had issues with anti theft deterrent, no start/crank? Been at the GMC Dealership for almost 3 weeks and they haven't gotten it to start either. 2016 Yukon Denali XL
Did you have it fixed?
No mention to the lifter issues these engines are plagued with?
The whole thing is a giant problem. I have put over $10,000 in part and labor into that POS. This truck has made me never want to buy another GM product again!
I have a vibration at idling issue very annoying. Can’t figure it out .
The dod and afm, as well as the crappy lifters and pistons have really hurt the brand
+John Spelman Thanks for the feedback!
why would you not have the DOD valve failure as # 1 and the AC condenser as fail 2.
We’re dealing with two blown front struts and an oil leak at 146,000 miles
Great information - But I would like to know how To Convert the Stop lights- LED into Regular Bulbs. Most Tahoe’s have Bulbs not LED !!!😳 This would help on not PAYING
$ 700.00 !!!!!!’ Please help . Thank You
For the Yukon’s you can’t just go to reg bulb best advice what I did buy aftermarket taillights
