I didn't see JJ's move as intentional. Bigs are taught to keep their elbows and the ball high! As far as remorse, I can't read into the players mind so I'll reserve judgement on that.

Yes that was intentional, premeditated and a crime. The Aces look weak, they got punked and did not fight back. Coach Becky is weak and soft. If anybody did that to any one of my players, I am going off, getting two technicals and thrown out of the game. That was totally unacceptable. I played the game, I coached girls basketball and I officiated the game for 15 years. What the hell is this? Does WNBA stand for Womans National Bush League? I am fit to be tied. The commish and the league should be embarrassed, I would have thrown Jones out immediately, she did not even care if Asia was alive or not, or say that she was sorry. She should be suspended. That was assault, a crime. I would have to be carried out of there like Charles Oakley.

Man, that looked awful! I'm not a doctor, but my concern is the way Wilson's head flew back... Thank God she's ok. I do admire the way A'ja fell... it seemed as if she turned her body as she was falling so that she landed with her face to the floor instead of backwards on her neck/back. That was a scary moment.

The she needs to miss some games in Concussion Protocol. That did NOT happen.

At first, I thought that was the player just going hard to the bucket. But a 2nd look it was a dangerous foul
(Joan here). Yes going hard to the basket while also elbowing the opposition out of her way in such a manner as to be considered a foul and in this case flagrantly so! I don't think as others are suggesting that she had an intent to purposely take this player out - more a matter that she wanted her shot free and clear.
Part of that foul was because of the difference in height but the taller person needs to be aware of that and ensure she doesn’t hit someone above the shoulders. When she brought her elbows up to her shoulder height she would have hit most other players in the head and neck area. She should have been aware of that and made sure she didn’t do it.
It ain't the first time these two got into it, and she does all that to miss a layup....
WNBA & refs need to come down harder on this sort of stuff. They may have all time viewer highs etc but people will turn off if this stay consistent. A message needs to be given to teams
If they started booting people on the spot for this sort of foul and docking their pay for not playing, this sort of crap would stop.

That was freaking intentional and shoud've been ejected from the game. There is a huge difference in raising an elbow when you pivot to intentional swinging elbow.

I heard rumor the league has been interviewing all the players to investgate and issue some harsh penalties in fines and suspensions. I offer my unsolicited disciplinary consulting advice. Pro bono, of course.
I think JJ may have just been trying to make a basketball move but plays more physical than others, using size and strength to advantage, and could probably out muscle some NBA players. But if A'ja felt it was intentionally meant to injure her, proper protocol is to make a complaint with the league office and have the matter investigated.
A conspiracy of teammates to retaliate by one of them attempting to intentionally injure another player on JJ's team should result in significant suspension time of all in the conspiracy and JJ should also be given lesser suspension but still at least a year off for retaliating against the retaliation in such manner to possibly injure one of the possible conspirators (or someone acting alone).
I am not a basketball expert. It would be fair to ask former players male and female to watch all available video on this to judge if they see intention to injure or overly-aggressive physical play on a basketball move.
I know players are not supposed to throw elbows but was intention to merely knock her away or to actually injure? It's an important question. Either way, JJ knows not to throw elbows so should also receive at least a few additional games suspension.
If intent to injure is admitted to or discerned, or if it is accepted that intent to injure is implicit in the throwing of elbows in such manner to make sure the other player takes their physical impact, then JJ should also receive a more significant suspension.
While we can be thankful that nobody tried to choke anyone or break their neck, one of JJ's teammates should also be warned to never again use her superior hand-eye coordination and quick reflexes to throw her elbows in such manner that she does not hit opponents but yet causes opponents to fear they will be hit in the face or head and have their noses broken or experience concussion.
Hopefully other basketball governing bodies would honor the suspensions as from basketball rather than just from the league. Yes, that would mean no Olympics for those suspended which will make an example of them within the world of women's basketball that intentional intent to injure other players will not be tolerated no matter who you are.
Flagrant fouls will only stop if they automatically become points plus free throws instead of just free throws. Time to update rules.

In my humble opinion the refs in the Wnba seem afraid to call any and all fouls that is why the games are so violent. Just saying.

In the UFC. You know, that Full Contact FIGHTING competition. That INTENTIONAL Elbow Strike is what they practice and use to intentionally knock out their opponent. That was an intentional aggressive assault on the other player. Immediate 5 game suspension. This is Basketball. Not Rugby. The Ref's and top management are the Problem here. Bad people will Steel and Fight all day long. Until it's no longer allowed.

If this kind of behaviour is allowed to carry on the Women's Basketball game will have to be renamed "Rugby Ball". The officials need to get a grip of all this dirty play, it makes Ice Hockey look tame, the game lasts twice as long as they spend more time sorting out the Rugby Tackles than the players do playing the game. Women's basketball is getting to be a repetitive cat fight girlie scrummage and I just change channels now whenever this happens. I want to watch fast paced, skillfull basketball not a stop start rugby match.
