    I think it sold fast because you were realistic on the price. So many people, especially those who purchased during covid, are asking crazy amounts.

      @LaurentiusTriarius ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes exactly. On marketplace in the Laurentians Quebec area where I live you can find great deals but also a dozen of "stagnant" ads for used bikes at or over retail...

      This right here. Looking at the used bike market and many are asking for close to, if not new bike prices because they're trying to recover the Covid premium they paid!

    The issue I see is used bikes are close to the new bike price. So who wants to risk buying a used bike with no benefit in price savings?

      Yeah I’m seeing higher spec brand new bikes for cheaper than used clapped out 2022 bikes with worse components… so why would I buy that if I could afford the brand new one?

  • @MrMuggsly
    @MrMuggsly ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I just sold my 2020 evil offering and I just had to be patient and not price it like it was new. What I found is people think that bikes somehow hold their value and are worth 10-20% less than they paid for it when it should be closer to 40-50% off. I also only do in person which I am lucky to be able to do due to where I live there are a lot of bikers in the state/states.

    For grins, I put a Canyon Spectral ON CF8 up for sale, its a 2022, no scuffs.
    I advertised it @ 3K less than I paid. Not even a sniff. Not even 1 call.
    Its one of the top 5 trailbikes for 2022 or 2023. I decided to keep it and ride the hell out of it.

    I appreciate the advice. I’ve bought a couple entry level hard tails that the owners have just wanted to get rid of on Facebook marketplace. I would do a basic tune up, replace any damaged/worn parts, clean it good, take lots of pictures and disclose any damage and double my investment by pricing it correctly to the market. I did not have either listed for more than the weekend.

    • @topspot4834

      I do the same thing, but it's more of a hobby then some kinda substantial money maker. You're right though, the key is finding someone who just wants to get rid of it and doesn't care about $200-300 ... The thing is though, time is money, so when you consider the time you're putting into finding, buying, fixing, cleaning and reselling, it's not really a lotta money. Plus the money you spend on parts, components, lube, etc ... For me personally, I have to net at least $300 and even then, I'm not accounting for time since it's something I enjoy doing.

    I've always sold bikes in person only. Having it delivered seems like asking for trouble. I'd rather someone came to look at it, check it over and discuss it face to face. Got to be careful with that though as there are certainly some wrong'uns out there!

    It probably helps that you are a very open and trustworthy person which anyone watching you videos or knows you will know. Some folk selling used bikes are a bit more questionable, that puts doubt and risk into the buyers mind and therefore they will want a lower price to reflect that risk. Thanks for all your great videos 😊

  • @kangsterizer
    @kangsterizer ปีที่แล้ว +1

    one of the biggest issue buying new isnt so much the crazy prices of some people, these are easy to.. ignore. its the hidden defects. I had a guy who made me drive 1h after i told him "if the bike is in the perfect state you describe ill just hand you the money and pick it up".
    The bike had a broken axs dropper, a big scratch on the fox factory stanchion low enough in the travel that its a problem - and the rest was just-ok, so nothing in the perfect condition described and the pic avoided showing all this. I spent some time fixing his dropper (FOR FREE) and asked him for a discount (basically what it'd cost me to swap the stanchions), which he refused, then he got angry.
    That's the risk with used bikes. You can do the travel and be extra nice and still end up with scammers.

    It was a nightmare to sell my old bike -- that was two years ago. In europe used bikes (in almost perfect condition) will sell for 50-60% of the price (you originally paid for). However, that is still better than to not sell them and waiting. Plus in my mind, I am always glad when there's one less thing to think about.

Sold to a Craigslist buyer in 4 days. Had multiple offers in that time too. Overall, it sold way quicker than expected and at a fair price. I got 2 years of use out of it and the guy was amped to get it. Sold due to bike redundancy (own a Transition Sentinel as well).

    My last frame purchase came back to bite me when trying to sell. Last summer I needed a new frame pretty quick, ordered a GG smash, rode it for 6 months and just wasn’t meshing with it. Have been trying to sell it since. Most recently I listed the frame, shock, BB, crankset, and a couple hangers for $900 and still can’t sell it. GG going under and the bike market declining really killed me. Especially when I paid $3200 originally.

      Yeah bike companies going under is not helping. I got a ragley blue pig during the pandemic for 2k new when the retail was i think 2.6k. Barely rode it and still put a bunch of upgrades and new parts and im getting no bites or even offers when listing it for 1800. I was hoping go get an offer for 1600 with that list price but oh well. A lot of the crc brands are on sale for half off so I just cant compete with that.

    Been trying to sell my YT Decoy for MONTHS. Priced very fairly (60% off what I paid). 600 miles on it. Gotten a few bites but everyone has backed out for some reason or another (my favorite is "my wife said no"). At this point I just want to get rid of it. I have a new bike and it's just taking up space. Sucks to have to sell it for so cheap, but mountain biking is still fun enough to make it worth it.

    Because you are selling a used bike base on the new bike's "discounted" price, which makes a lot of sense. A lot people out there I don't know if they live in the cave so they dont know the bike is on sale at the moment, or they just trying to rip off people. I think they just post it there and hope to the best lol expecting to see your new bike.

    I remove as many after market components that are customized to my liking. So water bottle cages, any pedals or grips that have a color that isn't original, things like that. I also replace the grips, tires, brake pads and saddle (if worn out), then give it a deep clean and lube, and make sure it's all tuned up and riding like new. If I'm asking more than $4,000 this is all standard, but it's surprising how many people don't put money into it, then they wonder why it won't sell anywhere close to the asking price. I also wrap my bikes before ever riding them, so in 3-4 years the frame still looks new.
