Thanks for posting the highlights . What a brilliant game it was . I’d love to see the whole game again . Fond memories of staying up into the night watching the best game of the first World Cup in colour . Der Kaiser und Der Bomber in their pomp and how great was Seeler in the air ! The infamous brutal Italian defence wouldn’t stay on the pitch for half an hour these days and even in these short highlights the ref was very lenient several times including a clear chop on Seeler in the six yard box .
"Ausgerechnet Schnellinger!" The last living member of Germany's 1958 WC squad has passed away. One of the best defenders of his era, and of all time. Rest in peace, Schnellinger.

This match looks so much better than today's passing game. Football needs to bring back the attacking style that was always making people stand up from their seats out of amazement and wow.
Absolutely, more direct, todays midfielders just pass it right or left and back, and never front, why..no brains..no skill..sadly thats todays football for you.
@@alinadin you are right as far as physical strength, speed, circus ball tricks and endurance. You are wrong about individual creativity. Today’s players are programmed. It’s a result of growing up in an academy rather than in the park, streets or on a beach.
Great worldcup semifinal match for all time it was! Great players - Beckenbauer, Muller, Seeler, Facchetti, Mazzola, Rivera, Riva, and goalkeepers - Mayer and Albertosi.
Beckenbauer's legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. His contributions to the sport are immeasurable, and his loss is deeply felt by millions around the world. May we honour his memory by striving to emulate his passion and dedication to the beautiful game.🌹🌹🌹🌹
Quite honestly, the speaker has no idea of football. In addition to mispronoucing the names of many players, he mentioned the possibility of a penalty shootout if the game ended in a draw, when in 1970 this option was not available. If the match ended in a draw after extra time, lots would be drawn.
Well spotted! Yes, penalty shootouts didn't start until later in 1970 - maybe this match pushed the authorities into making the change. The 1968 Euros semi between Italy and the USSR had been decided on coin toss.
Exactly, penalty shootouts were introduced formally for the 1978 WC, though they were not needed in that tournament (they would've only been used in the final).
What a game !! Hard to believe it was played more than 50 years ago.. il looks so “modern”.. maybe it shows how much football had evolved tactically by 1970… but still it must have been a truly exceptional match maybe setting the template for modern total football!
I am sorry, it doesn't look modern at all. Players make a ton of mistakes that would be rare today, they touch the ball 4-5 times before they pass it which just doesn't happen today, there's no pressing high up the pitch, their physical conditioning is worse than today and they probably play with a libero in defense instead of keeping a straight line. A mediocre modern team would probably beat either of those teams handily. Looking at those games, exciting as they may be is a reminder of how football has improved in every facet.
@@NC7491 Sure, today's teams are fitter and stronger (thanks to the evolution of sport science) and tactics and formations are more sophisticated. But I don't think individual skill levels of footballers are superior today than they were in, say, 1970. For example, I don't see a player today with a left foot and ability to hit a pin-point pass from 40 yards like Gerson, or who can back-heel a ball at mid-height to a teammate like Tostao.
@@hugodrax71 i agree, modern players rarely show off their skills. Bcz their coach would bench them if they do that. For me peak of football is 2000-2010s. The game was really entertaining and players not affraid to show their skills.
@@Winaryo175 Most modern footballers have been over trained, play like robots and have no skills to show. A player like Neymar were a dime a dozen in those days. I'd say 70s to 90s have the best balance of skills, power and tactics.

This until the final apotheosis in the middle of the night with the streets filled with cars and cheering fans ... an unforgettable memory. With Beckenbauer and Gigi Riva ... two football titans

I was 2 years old, but my father told me about this epic match thousands of times. 12 years later i got to see Italy's triumph over West Germany in the spanish world championship 1982 final.
In 1982 Italy was clearly the better team. In 1970 Germany would have put up a much better fight in the final against Brazil. They lost the semi but I felt they were the better team 1970.
Even knowing the outcome it felt dramatic. I wonder how many of those "non-fouls" would have been called penalty kicks today. Until that odd quarter final loss at the last Euro in France Germany and West Germany had never beaten the Azzuri in a competitive match.
I"ve heard about this match since I was a kid, but this is the longest highlights package of it I've ever watched. A surprising number of defensive lapses from Italy, but their lethal finishing got them through. 120 minutes at high altitude, a credit to all involved that this was such a great game. What a World Cup that was in 1970, capped off by the sheer brilliance of the Brazilian team that won it.
The original commentary (English) came from Kenneth Wolstenholme (the man who coined the phrase "they think it's over - it is now!") and sounded like he was talking through a landline telephone with a bad signal.

The three best teams of all times : Brazil , Italia and West Germany 1970 .
@yeetus fetus Name by name, the 2002 squad was the best italian generation ever even though as a team they didn´t work that well. They got robbed against South Korean in one of the most awful scandals in football history.

Absolutely with Platink and Karl-Heinz Rumenigge
I remember when Karl-Heinz Schnellinger, at that time playing in Italy for AC Milan and beloved in the city of Milan, equalized for Germany just at the end of the second half. In Italy we were all shocked and felt ... betrayed. Perhaps, we forgot that he was german, playing for his national team. ah ah ah. In the end we won and I have to say that, to me, this is the n.1 match ever in the world cup. Itay and Germany are the two teams that always play until the end and offer great performances.
Schnellinger was in the box because the tunnel was on that side and he wanted to leave the field as soon as possible: ge believed that the game was lost for Germany.
RIP Dear Kaiser ..can't forget the image of you marshalling even with a dislocated shoulder.
They were two famous football teams in the world and also my favorite team. They always made a great game in every big moment
The Game of the Century!!! 👏👏

great game, incredible heart by all players. No primadonnas or divas.
Thanks for posting the highlights . What a brilliant game it was . I’d love to see the whole game again . Fond memories of staying up into the night watching the best game of the first World Cup in colour . Der Kaiser und Der Bomber in their pomp and how great was Seeler in the air ! I think I recall that Italy played Sandra Mazzola and Gianni Riviera one half each because they couldn’t or wouldn’t play together .Both superb midfielders . The infamous brutal Italian defence wouldn’t stay on the pitch for half an hour these days and even in these short highlights the ref was very lenient several times including a clear chop on Seeler in the six yard box .
Possibly the greatest game in World Cup history, along with the 1954 final.
And 6-3, stop underplaying how hard England got beat, it changed football!
El partido del siglo, en el mejor mundial del siglo. Saludos desde la tierra del pisco, Perú.
Riva and Rivera were two incredible players! And De Sisti, my favourite one.

"Ausgerechnet Schnellinger!"
The last living member of Germany's 1958 WC squad has passed away. One of the best defenders of his era, and of all time. Rest in peace, Schnellinger.
Que partidazo! Y en el mejor estadio del mundo, me refiero, el estadio donde prácticamente han jugado los mejores del mundo, Pele, Maradona y los jugadores de antaño, los mejores de todos los tiempos. This match looks so much better than today's passing game.
Football needs to bring back the attacking style that was always making people stand up from their seats out of amazement and wow.
One of the most amazing world cup games I've ever watched.
"Robert Bossinega". Oh my... 🤣🤦🏿♂️
That was not the only name butchered, either.
He also said “Domenigi” or something similar.

In my country. Argentina are so many italians, this name is: Boninsegna.... Bosinega??😞
This is one of the best foot ball match as much I have seen in my life.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I found that these old matches are more attractive; more skills, more creativity, more characteristic, and less predictive.
Absolutely agree... It was real football.
Absolutely, more direct, todays midfielders just pass it right or left and back, and never front, why..no brains..no skill..sadly thats todays football for you.
This is true in all sports. Back then it was more about skill and creativity.
ur completely wrong , these matches are just silly , no skills no fitness , all those players can't stand 5 minutes in now a day football
@@alinadin you are right as far as physical strength, speed, circus ball tricks and endurance. You are wrong about individual creativity. Today’s players are programmed. It’s a result of growing up in an academy rather than in the park, streets or on a beach.
La più bella partita di tutti i tempi dei mondiali di calcio!!!
Great worldcup semifinal match for all time it was! Great players - Beckenbauer, Muller, Seeler, Facchetti, Mazzola, Rivera, Riva, and goalkeepers - Mayer and Albertosi.
Don't forget Wolfgang Overath. Great, great player. Also played in the 1974 winning side. He also played in 1966. Wonderful player. Thanks.
Of course we remember that great halfback of the German team but we thought that Netzer was better than Overath
Best Match I have ever seen. I was in the Army (Germany) they let us watch it and then called us out for duty at 5 am> It was pure misery!!!!!
EL PARTIDO DEL SIGLO
Came here after the recent passing of Franz Beckenbauer. This just further highlights what a great player he was. RIP
Efectivamente , es uno de los mejores partidos de fútbol, que he podido ver , hasta el momento. También reconocido por la FIFA
Beckenbauer's legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. His contributions to the sport are immeasurable, and his loss is deeply felt by millions around the world. May we honour his memory by striving to emulate his passion and dedication to the beautiful game.🌹🌹🌹🌹
"The" match of the football history... 2 great teams with an opened game...
Quite honestly, the speaker has no idea of football. In addition to mispronoucing the names of many players, he mentioned the possibility of a penalty shootout if the game ended in a draw, when in 1970 this option was not available. If the match ended in a draw after extra time, lots would be drawn.
You're absolutely right, that a pretty ridiculous mistake by FIFA...
In FIFA world cups knockout stage matches before 1978, there will be a replay of the game 2 days later if a game finished in a draw after extra time.
@@MisterPolitical1 Yep. Only one match in the history of the World Cup was replayed: Brazil / Czechoslovakia in 1938 (1-1 then 2-1).
What a game !! Hard to believe it was played more than 50 years ago.. il looks so “modern”..
maybe it shows how much football had evolved tactically by 1970…
but still it must have been a truly exceptional match maybe setting the template for modern total football!
I'd say 70s to 90s have the best balance of skills, power and tactics.

it's crazy how the way I percive the game changed with camera technology and the triko sponsoring. Without wide angle views and full colours it looks so much more like a match played on a small football field thaan in a big stadion.
I was 2 or 3 years old back then, but my father (may he rest in peace) told me that this was the greatest football match that he has ever seen... and he also lived long enough to watch the TOTALLY EPIC 2014 final match versus Argentina.
It simply is not true that Italy has mainly played in a destructive way. Their national team has given some of the greatest and most dramatic games ever - notably this one and of course their 3-2 win over Brazil 12 years later.
i love this old times of football ❤
I was nine and I was seeing the game at my grandparents' house. It was late ... I remember my grandfather went to bed immediately after Schnellinger's disappointed draw and also because he had to go to work in the morning. Gigi Rivia (number 11) still today has the record for the goal made in the National team, 35!
35 in only 42 matches... long live to legendary Rombo di Tuono ( Roar of Thunder ) !!!
The 3-2 Riva's goal is for me one of the best ever seen ...the 3 touches all with the left foot (stop-adjust in countertime-shoot) are fantastic😮
Que recuerdos y qué partidos de fútbol o mundial mexico 🇲🇽 70 🥅🇲🇽💯💯👍
Best game of last century.
Sublime finish by Rivera to win it. Cool and composed.
As italian, the best game ever, congrats to the Germany👏👏

@@stefenski I'm Brazilian and I've never understood this "just about"
The original commentary (English) came from Kenneth Wolstenholme (the man who coined the phrase "they think it's over - it is now!") and sounded like he was talking through a landline telephone with a bad signal.
They suppressed the noise of the crowd when they made this abominable dubbing fiasco. Took away 90% of the excitement.
If anyone remembers the commentator on the old International Superstar Soccer console games, they've hired him to dub this...
By today's standard, some of the infringements would have resulted in red cards.
Yes, football was very harsh. Very few simulations in those days.
By 1970s' standards a lot of today football stars would have hardly handled the game.
