I'm a beginner and this video wasn't confusing at all, It was actually pretty insightful and provided me with the info I was looking for. But maybe that's because I had spoken to a Lowe's associate a little earlier today who explained a few hammer drill basics to me prior to me watching this video. Question: Do you guys recommend having someone spray the bit with water as you drill with the hammer drill? That's what the Lowe's associate recommended. He said that otherwise, the concrete could overheat and crack. I was wondering what your thoughts on that are. Thanks.
yea we were not on right track but we are honest. See our updated video on the subject. Please see our updated video on the subject th-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=iw6u41-ss5w
i got a dewalt hammer drill/driver and impact driver so I'm good to go for most applications you're going to have my jigsaw and circular saw for cutting wood and if need be I have a cut out tool for sheetrock as well as a grinder
Although I was compelled to cut this video short, I now understand, when presenting information to an audience, how important it is to know something about the subject. Having a clearly defined purpose, along with organized, coherent thoughts (prepared and organized ahead of time) is the only way one is ever going to hold the attention of an audience. Once you lose them, it's difficult to recover. Place cue cards over the camera to keep yourselves on track if you have to. Okay, so, here’s the basic formula: 1) Tell your audience what you're going to tell them. 2) Tell them. 3) Then tell them what you just told them. (This is what they teach in classroom settings) In other words, you prep them for what's to come, present your information and subject, and end with a recap (which pulls it all together and helps your audience remember what you just told them). I think it's awesome when people want to teach and inform others, regardless of the reason (selling something, ego, or genuine desire to contribute to the community). Making a good presentation is not easy! If you really want to be effective, and create happy visitors who come back, you've got to frame it up properly - otherwise you'll keep getting shit from dicks like me. There's no other way unless you're a natural, which most people are not. Get this handled and the rest will fall into place. You'll see. Try it. It ain't like you've got anything to lose, let’s be honest (I say that with love… and yes, I’m also a dick). Now, call me a dick if you think it will help, and then get to work before anyone else hates you. And no more fake comments. You're better than that... Right? Just nod your head.
I got my first electric drill the other day (why i didnt get one sooner i do not know) and its a corded hammer drill, mainly because of the low price. Also because i borrowed a regular ryobi cordless drill the other week when i needed one and it struggled with spade bits in treated timber. I dont think the hammer drill (in drill function) will have any problems with said bits 😂
Maria John That's a good question. Wood bits have sharper edges and are made from different materials. Take a look at wood and masonry bits at the home center and it will not take long to see how they look different.
Yes, but you still have to rotate her on top while she is in a star position to keep the rotation going. Make sure she keeps up the loud noise so she has a good grip on the nut.
That high-end unit you refer to at 5:15 is called a "Rotary Hammer", not to be confused with a "Hammer Drill", the subject of this video. Overall, an informational presentation, but, men, try to get your patter down before hitting the record button; contradicting each other doesn't play very well, unless it's obvious that one guy is playing the role of the unknowing one--which isn't the case here. Best of luck in your future releases!
The hammer mode in a drill machine when there is a need for hammering action, mostly for the masonry and should not be used for drilling screws. Thank you.
Says you CAN'T use a hammer drill to do everything . 2 second later says the reverse ? So you can buy an Hammer drill to do regular wood working job as long as it as an ON/OFF of the "hammering action" it's might just be awkward if its a really heavy one ?
I want to upgrade my DeWalt DW972 3/8" 12.0V drill with a nickel cadmium battery to a 18.0 or a 20.0V 1/2" drill with Lithium-Ion battery. I have heard a lot about the hammer drill, should I get that instead of the drill driver? I'm not a contractor.
Main reason I'd buy a hammer drill is as a cheap substitute for an air hammer in automotive suspension work, i.e. hammer only mode to drive out worn bushings. Don't really need to drill holes in hard materials
wait, around the 6:30 mark they're saying that an impact driver is used when you're getting tires.. ...That's an impact wrench, not an impact driver, correct?
I have a question. I have gone through 4 Milwaukee fuel hammer drills. All returned/exchanged because the chuck chick and the bit get stuck. i can't undo the Chuck no matter what. two times it happened we were drilling concrete and once it was drywall (obviously not in hammer mode for that application) and ideas as to why this keeps happening?
The impact functions of hammer drills and impact drill/drivers can damage tapping screw and self-driving screw tips and the use should be restricted to drilling and driving fasteners into masonry. The hammer-drill has been used as a sonic weapon to annoy people. This is accomplished by running the power trigger extensively with the hammer functioning long after screws have been seated.
Not all hammer drills have it. It is not required.. just gives you a little more leverage at times. Check manual to see if they sell it as an add-on accessory.
what do you mean a keyed chuck like in the olden days?.. i seen an 1800s era hand drill, it was portable, cordless, had a keyless chuck too, and it didnt have to be recharged.. but yeah, keyless chucks are older than power tools, period
I have almost all the 20v Hart tools but I also have way nicer corded tools…. dewalt, makita, Milwaukee etc… I have a tailgator generator that’s easy to carry with one hand if I need to take them somewhere without power. I think that’s the way to go.
Well a hammer drill is for masonry it says it can do others things. And I mean it will buy not very well. A normal drill is for drill bits it has a higher Speed so that you get a better cut. But you don't want to use that for screws because it has less torque. So for screws you want a impact driver it's slow but has lots of torque. All of the drills are Good at what they are designed for. And they can accomplish multiple jobs but not proficiently
Upgraded from an older 18v kit. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.
Some viewers said this video may have been somewhat confusing... REALLY! I would say they explained well and understood. But, each to their own opinion.

I've gone to the extent of using long aircraft drills ranging from 3/16" to 5/8" DIa. which were 12" long and spade drills up to 18" long. Matter of fact I just finished drilling and driving 1/2" x 12" lag bolts with the power drills set on hammer mode. After completing the work the drill bits were all in pristine condition and very sharp. These guys are side tracking people away from an extremely profitable method of using the hammer drill. Too bad TH-cam hasn't removed this video months ago. It's obvious these two guys rarely get their hands dirty.
I don't think we said that but we may not have been clear. I often use the hammer drill for wood when using larger bits, especially for jobs like drilling through joists. Good point about lag bolts

No crucial information provided in this video. For example, the biggest hammer machine on that table, about which these two didn't even talk about, can be used for core cutting in masonry/concrete walls. But what many don't know is that during core cutting you should turn off the hammer action! Why? Because you would want to prolong the life of your very expensive core cutting drill bit. Of course you can still use the hammer action during core cutting, but then you'll have to deal with your bit getting blunt after only few uses.

You can't have a powerful tool with a tiny motor and still expect it to do more than drive screws and of course cost next to NOTHING! It just can't be done. I want to see that cordless take a 3/4 inch bit and bust a hole in granite within ...oh, say 1 minute. Not going to happen. You can change the batteries out at least 5 times and the granite may just need a little shoe polish to get the scuff out that thing is going to leave.

Maria John That's a good question. Wood bits have sharper edges and are made from different materials. Take a look at wood and masonry bits at the home center and it will not take long to see how they look different.
Masonary is when a missionary and a mason have a child that doesn't speak good English.

I thought this was pretty good. I don't a lot about tools, but I thought you were pretty helpful

The chuck on my keyless Milwaukee hammer drill gets stuck as well. I use large channel lock pliers to get it unstuck typically.
really? so its a common problem?
perhaps. the answer may be keyed chucks for hammer drills perhaps.
The impact functions of hammer drills and impact drill/drivers can damage tapping screw and self-driving screw tips and the use should be restricted to drilling and driving fasteners into masonry. Hammer drills aren't used only in conjunction with masonry bits.
then what else?😕
Well a hammer drill is for masonry it says it can do others things. And I mean it will buy not very well. A normal drill is for drill bits it has a higher Speed so that you get a better cut.
