To give you a break from comments about the Ice Rod... I just wanted to say thanks. Watching this series made me consider playing Super Metroid for the first time. Earlier today, I booted up my SNES Classic and got down to it, beating the game in about 5 hours. Not bad for someone who's never played a Metroid game, huh? Without watching you play this, I likely would have forgotten the game existed. Also, two things I wanted to share from my experience. First, you can disable (and re-enable) Samus' upgrades on the status screen when you pause. only 6mins in and Jerd has left another item behind. Watching this with any kind of knowledge for either game or how the rando works is painful...I must be a masochist though, cause I'm still gonna watch every episode.
It was entertaining at first, but now it's starting to feel repetitive. The same mistakes over and over just get tiring to watch. He said himself he's not super familiar with Metroid, and knowing how many items there are, not using a map for a game you aren't familiar with, when any hidden item could be the progression item you're looking for, seems like a terrible idea.
I dont know anything about metroid so im fine in that aspect. But LTTP was fun at first but its starting to get a bit cringy for me now. Since I know litteraly all treasure locations and ton of alternate ways to get them its starting to get annoying how much jared keeps missing. But thats the downside of having knowledge I guess.
@@jeltevl8868 Jared doesn't know any glitches. Without glitches he can only possibly get 4 items in ALTTP right now. All of which he had been right next to but did not get. The witch, the mini moldorm cave thief, and the dark maze chests in PoD. I am really only disappointed by him skipping the dark maze because good adventurers go left, but he went right.
These randomizers show that you need to know these games VERY well in order to not go insane. It's clear that Jared doesn't have a deep a knowledge of these games as say, Jerard does over at Super Beard Bros. when they ran this randomizer. Which basically means Jared's descent into madness is a different kind of entertaining than Jerard's more confident playthrough.
Sometimes that's not even enough. I know both games very well, but I also have a map for Super Metroid, and I still had a bear of a time with my last playthrough as the Morph Ball spawned in the Ice Palace, and I had to go through a rather long, convoluted string of events just to get the items to even get in there. So I had to complete well over half of Zelda to even start on Metroid, lol.
Really? Often Jirard's biggest problem was that he often flat out refused to check certain areas because he insisted there was nothing there. I think they just need to be more willing to explorel
@@DuelingShade Most of the time, yes. I'm just saying in response to Shaun Baker that in my own experience, knowing both games makes it easier, but doesn't necessarily mean the game itself becomes easier if crap is randomized to appear very late in one game or another, lol. I'm sure the upsides still make big batches more practical, but in this case he was totally wasting his time and energy at this point in the day.
If he's gonna record them without comment support, he really should have read the logic rules and a basic checks guide as to how checks function in a randomizer. Knowing the games isn't enough to do randomizers properly.
Jared, quick thing I learned from my own randomizer. Crystals 5 and 6 are differently colored from the rest for a reason: collecting those opens the Pyramid fairy fountain.
@@samlay9588 Well, I can be more specific with another tip I found. You still need the big bomb, but now you only need those specific crystals to set off that trigger, not all seven of them.

@@MegaOctobot game design 101 would at least suggest not to put a locked door with nothing behind it. by doing so, it is all too likely that the player will use their only key on a dead end and get stuck forever. look at even the first zelda game. they gave you the option to buy keys just in case, gave you a late game universal key to replace them, and would always give you your key back at the end if it was truly a dead end (phoenix dungeon is a good example). since you cant buy keys in lttp, there is no universal key by that point, and it is all too likely a first time player would fall for the trap with their last key, they were smart enough to refund the key. it is just an issue of jared needing to reset the dungeon by returning to skull woods itself to refresh the falling tiles to get it, since he doesnt have the hookshot for normal traversal or pegasus boots for speed-running exploits.
he's also gonna need a bit of research for next time lol I think i counted about 30 things he could have done better if he knew a little tiny bit more about this.
What would happen? I don’t know how the game normally handles it, but if you pick up a lower level item, does it do nothing or replace the higher level item?
@@AkaiAzul In ALttP randomizers, swords, shields, and tunics are all replaced with "Progressive" items. There are literally four "Progressive Swords" in the entire world that function only to move you up to the next sword level. @@Big_Gulps_Huh Jared also played an early version of the randomizer that didn't have progressive items implemented. He just doesn't know about the updated stuff.
IRC the first dungeon of the dark world has a couple chest that can have progressive items ... and maybe 1 or 2 in the first light world dungeon too, doesnt matter if you cant kill the last boss, just clear as much as you can. the randomizer sets the tunics into a "progressive" state. You can not find the red one before the blue one. Basically When you pick one up. the other transforms into the better version. Same for gloves, Swords and Shields.
I think the game was programmed so that each one shows you the next mail you can get. I bet if you waited to get the red mail (skipping the blue one) in the normal game, you'd get the blue one.
@@LorenHelgeson Unfortunately, that's not what happens in the 1.0 versions. But! Thankfully, if you DO get the red mail first, you can't overwrite it with the blue mail if you go back to the ice palace and get it 2nd. These progressive upgrades are custom code made for these randomizers!

@ProJared Plays! Hey Jared a thing to note while it's ridiculous that the gravity suit doesn't prevent heat damage it does prevent lava damage (Bubble Lava not the watery looking one that's acid even though it isn't green) so when you are running through heated areas running through the lava won't deal any additional damage you'll still only get damaged from the heat only. (Which is pretty silly but whatever) Also items in a link to the past work in progression if you found the blue tunic in two different chests when you get one the other will become the red tunic. It's impossible to get the red mail before the blue one. Just like it's impossible to get the master sword before the level one sword. Edit: Also A few more tips. You know the rooms where you get treasure? like the one at the bottom of lake hylia where you have to kill the worm things to open the door? (Where you have to kill them from the middle platform) You opened the chests in there but you didn't speak to the guy in there or in any other room they also give you an item as well so backtrack and speak to them to see what you can get people that gave money like that guy gives 300 rupees will give you an item instead. "Bomb jumping" if you set a bomb and stand link in it's direction it will push you back while you are technically airborne allowing you to clear some hookshot spots with just bombs. The witch took your mushroom but because they removed the dialogue box you didn't know to come back. Simply return inside her house now to see what item is there.
well Lava is a matter, heat is just energy, I guess you could argue that, That difference allows lava to be painless and damageless, while heat itself can still do massive damage.
@@TheUltimateRare LMAO. This is true. Lol but still by default more heat within the suit would still be generated in the lava than out of it as you are not surrounded by heated air but by heated magma. I guess what I meant was that technically Samus is still supposed to take more damage in the lava than out of it regardless if the suit itself wasn't taking any damage.
My theory on the Blue Mail changing colors: I assume you get the Blue Mail before the Red Mail, so the Randomizer's programmed to make the Blue Mail spawn twice, and when you get the first one, change the other one to the Red Mail.
Yes. The randomizer is programmed with progressive tunic and other upgrades. So everywhere where an upgrade is randomized to, you'll always get the next upgrade no matter which one you pick up first.
You're NOT stuck in the Dark World. You CAN get the missiles on the ledge outside of bumper cave, just walk left along the wall and check the skull out of the way. You're missing a TON of things in Metroid, and MANY things in LttP. Do your damn research.
It's interesting looking back at how ignorant I was of these things before the randomizer happened. It's hard to even count all the things he was unaware of. Still oddly fun to watch. Good luck Jared!
Oh my, from the first minute on, things start going awry with Jared taking the slower route out of Norfair despite having the Speed Booster that makes the fastest route available. This is gonna be good.
LOL you weren't wrong. He then proceeds to ONCE AGAIN assume the witches hut mushroom item is instant, which will lead to priceless reactions from Jared if he later finds an item in the hut and has no freaking idea what's going on right now. basically blue mail all over again.
11:01 XD XP I chuckled, I won't lie. He was laughing at that poor mummy, so the FloorMaster was like "Oh, you think that's funny huh? Naw, this is funny"
Jared, in the original game, in order to get the magic powder you had to give the witch the mushroom, leave one screen, not including going in and out of her house, then enter the hut. the assistant inside would give you the magic powder. so now that you left that screen you can re-enter the witch's hut and claim the randomized item.
I love the idea of Lank walking into shops all around hyrule and the dark world just to say "You just sell bullshit" "You aren't useful" "This is garbage" and then just walk out.
And History Repeats itself. Jared forgetting that the Mushroom item you have to leave the screen, and then come back and go inside. These are kinda painful to watch, but just like a train wreck, I continue to see how it pans out.
Jared once again forgets the ice rod is needed for Turtle Rock. Can't beat the boss without it! Plus it helps him get more magic with the magic hammer, if he remembers of course.
I feel like Jared could save himself a lot of grief if he read the information section of the randomizer. It doesn't give away any secrets or anything, but it does tell the rules for how the randomizer works (sword/armor progression, dialogue changes, etc.) I remember the first time I played the Link to the Past randomizer, I nearly lost it when the smithies gave me 10 arrows when I was expecting the third level sword because Jared's play through had the swords in their original places. As a side note, I think Jared misunderstanding the Witch is a charming send up to his last Link to the Past Randomizer where he also totally forgot how it worked (I was just as confused as he was that time).
Jared, Zelda randomizers have items called Progressive which are used to give you the next stage of that item, the Mails would be called Progressive mail, and if you had the Mirror and gotten the mail then, it would have been blue mail and the mail you got from the chest would have been red. its like that with the sword as well.
However, there is only a roughly 3% chance any given seed is a pedestal seed, meaning that required progression is somehow locked by the Master Sword Pedestal. Most times the pedestal tends to only have a piece of heart, "couch cash," or some other non-progression item.
I felt really bad watching Jared lose himself completely in this episode, but seeing him not realize he already had the Ice Rod was absurdly hilarious!

@@jnub I feel like it got to the point where it's less about counting how many times Jared has died, and more to do with how dead Jared is inside.
only 6mins in and Jerd has left another item behind. Watching this with any kind of knowledge for either game or how the rando works is painful...I must be a masochist though, cause I'm still gonna watch every episode.
I'm more of a sadist. I love to see him struggle (sometimes)....
that's called being human. We love to watch others suffer with the lack of knowledge we already know.
10:50 I couldn't stop laughing at this.
"I was laughing at HIS misery, MY misery isn't funny!"
It would be funny to see the witch say "thanks link , take this varia suit !"
Lank :-]
or the mirror the other item jared is desperate for.
Or the bow, the always missing item.
But yes, checking places more thoroughly IS key to success :P
Some mistakes just happen in succession, huh? The same mistakes were made when he played ALttP randomized, too.
Great, so Jared still hasn't learned his lesson to go inside the hut for the item.
To be fair the last LTTP randomizer was two years ago
At least he remembered he was supposed to go inside the hut... it would have been better if he had remembered after taking a screen transition first!
I can understand his confusion here, actually. Since a lot of other things were changed for speedrunning purposes, it would have made sense had they removed the need to change areas for the mushroom item.
@@ShiningSpear they don't code in new npc's giving items early. Only how they appear on the game. Mushroom is a script, basically.. so screen change still gonna be required, sadly. also, changing screen and coming back is really fast. so they wouldn't bother changing anything.
He'll need to buy a potion sooner or later at the witch's hut. Can't wait for him to kick himself because of it.
The Ice Rod thing is legit hilarious.
Also the Death Counter is just random numbers at this point, yes?
editor trolling him for the game being trolly XD
Me at 2:35: YES!!! He finally got the mushroom! Now he can give it to the witch. And he eventually learned in the last LTTP randomizer that the item appears inside her hut, so what could possibly go wrong?
Me at 5:14: Oh...
to be fair, Jared is a goof ball, and goof balls make these kind of mistakes daily.
Today on "HOLY SHIT JARED LEARN SOMETHING, ANYTHING FROM YOUR PREVIOUS PLAYTHROUGH!"...
I needed this Jared. Tough ass day, nice to unwind. Thanks man. I've been watching you for around a decade now, and it's always been a constant I can rely on.
Former G1?
@@Tailstraw_xD You know it!
HE DID IT AGAIN. HE FORGOT TO GO INSIDE AND GET THE ITEM. I swear to god he forgot to do the same thing in his LttP randomizer playthru too...
Jered you need to check the witch item as well as the hype cave and the mini morldorm cave items (the ones on the thiefs)
he already did hype cave
@@wdavis911 I wasn't sure about hype cave, but at least in the mini morldorm cave he missed talking to the thief, who holds an item as well.
This episode's title should have been "the downsides of batch recording." He's confused, worn out, distressed, and is just going to keep not getting anywhere because he has no help until the next session when he can see the comments from this one.
Oh snap, thanks for that hot tip! I had no idea. Awesome!
@@samlay9588 Well, I can be more specific with another tip I found. You still need the big bomb, but now you only need those specific crystals to set off that trigger, not all seven of them.
@@isenokami7810 It was always just crystals 5 and 6, even in the vanilla game, that was the only requirements for unlocking the Super Bomb. The only difference is now they mark the 5/6 crystals red to help draw attention to them on the map.
> "There's something simple I'm missing, isn't there."
Yes. There's still a bunch of items at the Wrecked Ship, plus all the items still hiding out in Maridia.
Meanwile in the Mini-Moldrom room, a lonely thief sitting there with his firerod making pew-pew noises.
i recall that "wasted key room" had a key (item) in one of the center skulls...
also, YOU ALREADY HAD THE ICE ROD!!!
Nah most dungeons just have a random room with nothing in it.
Oh, Jared. Jared, Jared, Jared. You poor soul. You already had the Ice Rod.
I hope you generated a spoiler log, I think you're gonna need it.
he's also gonna need a bit of research for next time lol I think i counted about 30 things he could have done better if he knew a little tiny bit more about this.
not this again, jared forgets to check inside the witches house a SECOND time????
Jared does Jared things XD
18:04 - What you are missing? Is that a rhetorical question? -_- ....
Next time we tune in for Jared playing this, Water will still be wet.
love how he's asking when the comments have been screaming at him how checks work and what he already missed for over 2 weeks by now lol
Fun fact: the ice rod actually does have a purpose - it's required to beat the boss of turtle rock. It doesn't do anything else for progress though.
His anguish is delicious.
watching him try to get out of the lava section the hard way was priceless.
Here's to hoping the rounds of bulk recording catch up with the comments sometime soon, then Jerd won't have to suffer as much as he is right now.
So far, I feel like Jared has been channeling, Woody Allen, Richard Lewis, and the Fonz.
Goddamit Jared just think about it, if the tunic was still blue, what would've happened? The items are progressive.
He really does need to read the randomizer documentation. :)
Amen.
Whatever sword level you're at, the progressive sword will display the sprite of the next level. The same goes with tunics and shields.
PS. You already had the Ice rod, you had to leave the screen and come back.
As someone not super familiar with either game, I'm just enjoying the chaos, lol. Hopefully you find something useful soon!
just a matter of time. (or he cops out and uses comments to save his butt lol)
Please keep playing these man. I know it's getting tougher but you just gotta make that one breakthrough with an item then the rest will pour on in. I just know it, dude.
It's always a pleasure seeing your new randomizer vids pop up on my notifications, and I know that a lot of other people would want you to keep going too.
you already had the ice rod, you have to go back to get the actual item
Oh god damn it, Jared...
I'll keep my mouth shut tho, since it seems the entire comment section is telling ya what ya missed already.
about 8 skipped items at this point, sadly.
It changed! I bet it changed when you got the blue mail, Jared.
the randomizer sets the tunics into a "progressive" state.
Remember that time in the first LtP randomizer when Jared never went back to the witch.....im having flashback headaches from this episode....
Jared you already had the ice rod go inside the hut and IM SO HAPPY THAT YOU FINALLY UPLOADED
Edit:also can you make episodes longer cause I’m having to much fun
Hey Jared, still loving the series and I hope you haven't been too stressed out over it! You just keep doing your own thing, you're doing fine.
Let's all pause for the ceremonial banging of head against the wall for the moment in the play through where Jared forgets he already has something and will probably spend the next 2 episodes looking for it
Holy shit Jared, AGAIN? Weren't you yelled enough in the first randomizer to not forget the witch item because you have to go in the hut after leaving a screen and coming back?
I've been playing my own runthrough of this. It's insanely difficult and frustrating, but also immensely rewarding and satisfying. Pure freaking genius romhack
Omg he finally got the mushroom but didn't get the item for it. 😂
well, he got a mistake, I guess that's an item. Too bad this isn't a freakin Paper mario game.
Watching the first 2 minutes of this video without looking at it takes it waaaay out of context XD Jared you make my day.
Oh no, Jared will never visit the witch again because he forgot HE GOT THE ICEROD SEVERAL EPISODES AGO
It's the medicine from Zelda 2 all over again.
To get the Witch's item, you must leave the house, then leave the screen, THEN return to the house
I had a trulie awsome day, thanks to you Jared ❤️
Jared: *walks away with icerod*
Me: JARED, NNNOOOOoooooooo!
Welp, it finally happened. Jared has gone insane.
all that lava went to his head bruh, he's such a hot head, he forgot that he could already cool himself down with an ice rod.
"trulie"... what a note to end on. Godspeed, Jared.
Fastest way to the witch...saving and quitting.
do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars, Try not to be a Jared, and not knowing about save and quit, thus creating many forced deaths to pad video time without knowing it.
Oh how I hope we get all of Jared’s realizations on camera...
I really hope he accidentally goes back in witches hut and has a mental breakdown and can't take it LOL.
I mean, I'm enjoying this series for the adventure between two different but beloved childhood games, and the absolute mayhem of the randomizer. I wasn't here to laugh at your misery
*but the deadpan at **11:08** killed me*
I love these randomized series! I really hope you play more in the future.
@@trvado3000 yeah i guess the heat is hurting her, but the suit itself is only damaged by heat, not by lava. Videos games are cool.
@@TheUltimateRare LOL
My theory on the Blue Mail changing colors: I assume you get the Blue Mail before the Red Mail, so the Randomizer's programmed to make the Blue Mail spawn twice, and when you get the first one, change the other one to the Red Mail.
Yes. The randomizer is programmed with progressive tunic and other upgrades. So everywhere where an upgrade is randomized to, you'll always get the next upgrade no matter which one you pick up first.
That damned mushroom exchange is the bane of Jared's existence in randomizers, isn't it?
You're NOT stuck in the Dark World. You CAN get the missiles on the ledge outside of bumper cave, just walk left along the wall and check the skull out of the way. You're missing a TON of things in Metroid, and MANY things in LttP. Do your damn research.
The master sword location has an item, you need the pendents, but you can see what it is if you have the book
I think one of the pendants is locked behind the Bow and that's why he hasn't tried for them yet.
JARED. THE MAIL UPGRADES ARE PROGRESSIVE. AS ARE THE SWORD, GLOVE, AND SHIELD ONES.
The stages of the random playthrough
1-Denial
2-fear
3-self pity
4-assuming you are stuck in a lava zone, when there is a safer route to returning to a colder region.
I appreciate how the death counter just says random amounts now
we love you, Jerd. never change. ^_^
It's interesting looking back at how ignorant I was of these things before the randomizer happened. It's hard to even count all the things he was unaware of. Still oddly fun to watch. Good luck Jared!
"My misery isn't funny!" *long silent look directly into the camera*
Poor Jared. It seems this game certainly has him trapped in a...Misery Mire.
11:07 HEY! I watch these to rejoice when you SUCCEED!
...though seeing you stare at me after saying that did crack me up. xD
15:48 Pretty sure I saw Doc Brown make that face in one of the Back to the Future movies.
Courage, Jared; I believe in you!
Witch:
"I'm done with the shroom. I wonder when Lank will show up to pick up his item?"
NO! It is not your misfortune I enjoy. It is the struggle to succeed. Keep it up Jared, I'm rooting for ya!
The sword, mail and shield upgrades change depending on the order you pick them up in.
@@ZemiousKatarn He said it doesn't do anything for him when he got it.
He also forgot that he already had the ice rod and it wasn't what he got from the witches.
also forgot that he *already had the ice rod*
Unfortunately, in a randomizer the stun prize is randomized too, so it isn’t gonna be magic I bet.
sadly. its very likely the stun reward is not gonna be a green rupee. and a shatter reward is gonna be something different as well.
We love you Jared
That moment when Jared's desperation makes him so insane he *FORGETS HOW THE WITCH WORKS AND THAT HE ALREADY HAD THE ICE ROD*
He has missed... so many secrets... in super metroid. I'm dying.
This is less if he finds the items and more slowly watching his sanity break.
I love it.
More like, Jared's dying. 69 times if Miss Editor is to be believed.
He said he hasn't played the game in years, so can't really blame him for not having memorized the entire map layout.
@@adamsmith2122 true but that isn't preventing Jared's sanity from slowly fading.
Speaking of grief, thank you Miss editor for giving Jared a lot of it.
I hope you aren't giving up on this LP, Jared.
I remember when Jared didnt remember that the girl in the house gives him the bag of dust in his link to the past randomizer playthrough.
Jared, Zelda randomizers have items called Progressive which are used to give you the next stage of that item, the Mails would be called Progressive mail, and if you had the Mirror and gotten the mail then, it would have been blue mail and the mail you got from the chest would have been red. its like that with the sword as well.
Yes you can get an item from the master sword pedestal.
he just needs the 3 pendants, but dont tell him that .. shhhh
Don't forget the woodcutter's tree! Now that you beat Agahnim, they're done cutting down the tree.
