That car was made at the St. Louis Assembly Plant. The same year I started working there. I may have put the front end on it. In the gas shortage of the early 1970s they started making speed odometers only go to 85 mpr. They thought it would make us drive slower. The Mo. State Patrol used those cars too.
That's very cool! Glad you are still here with us to share that story. Yes, you most likely did put the front end in that car which is cool to think about, but these cars were nothing special when new. Yeah, that's right as any one using O'Reilly brake clean must be ether half CRAZY or just plain NUTS. Don't try and start that mighty 460, just blow it up first before you stick it in the Torino..
Great Episode. Funny how you're getting this yacht ready for "filming." This same make, model, and year were used as John Candy's car in the cinema classic UNCLE BUCK. They used it as you first received it - beat down yet still running. He called it, "The Beast." I’ve had a few of them big Ford’s and mercury’s, they’re actually good cars when they’ve been taken care of. Looking forward to the chase scene though it’ll be cool, keep up the good work.
That's the same car my dad had when we lived in Anchorage Alaska 1979, his car was a 1977 full sized Mercury Marquis. It was a beautiful car, with a 400 V-8

Well of course it works its a Ford. The first thing that popped into my head when I seen this car was Uncle Buck. I would definitely salvage the 460 and the 9 inch rear end. It's a shame the back end of the car is in such bad shape. The church part was absolutely hilarious. Great video as usual👍
460 torino is gonna be sweet. D3 heads in 77 not too bad. One thing it will like is the straight up timing set used from 1968 to 1970. Years later they tarded the cam some 8 deg.
Yeah, to bad Ford did'nt use the 460 until around 73 or 74 after they stopped using the 429 and they also had the 400 Cleveland in the later years also..
@@markreisen7038 the 429 got all the performance stuff, however the 460 police engines were pretty stout too.. But the 68 to 1971 460 4bbls put out serious torque
