Interesting comparison! I just picked up a used over the ear HD1 off eBay and was disappointed with the sound quality. As you said, the mids sound muddy but I'm only comparing to my Marshall Mids (on ear, no ANC). Hopefully the sound will grow on me.

Thank you for the video, man! As far as these two headphones go, I now have a slightly different opinion. Did some testing on these two headphones as I own them both (AEBT+OEBT). The over-ear version subjectively sounds "better", has more balanced sound, while the on-ear has brighter highs and more pronounced bass, even tighter sound stage. Not to say that AEBT is way more comfortable to wear for longer listening sessions. I had some problems setting up a proper aptX connection with these headphones (AEBT, while OEBT was fine). Kinda frustrating as I had been using them with a buggy BT connection. Not really an expert in Bluetooth yet, but it used to connect in slightly lower quality mode as opposed to OEBT version which worked fine with aptX. There seem to be multiple stages of "messed up wireless connection". Fixed by reinstalling my USB Bluetooth adapter. aptX really makes a difference. Maybe you know if aptX support now comes as standard with Android Oreo smartphones (as it now comes for LDAC)? Or we still need to check the compatibility list on aptx.com?

I opted for the Audio technica ATH dsr7bt over the Momentum 2 on and over ear versions having heard them and the Bowers PX having sent them back due to Bluetooth issues. The Audios blow me away every single time I hear them and they also have AAC codec so sound great on my iPhone 7 Plus 👍
I unfortunately have to send these back due to Bluetooth issues. Gonna be getting the on-ear version soon instead.
That’s interesting. I haven’t tried the On-ear version as I prefer bigger cups. That’s kind of a bummer to find out but I’m still in love with these cans. I’ve got the Pink Floyd edition and they’re as fun to stare at as they are to listen to.

I asked this in Sennheiser support, and they say this is the same but with a different name, the reason of this is because Sennheiser does not own the rights to the Momentum name. But in Reddit, the people say the HD1 has a little improvement in the comfort of the headband.

wonder if the slight muddiness in comparison is due to a presumably larger driver size. smaller drivers are typically known for being better at mids but at the expense of that sweet deeper bass...

Some of the best sounding headphones on the market? No fucking way. 500 dollar headphones? Absolutely not. They are just wireless momentum 2, they are okay for affordable portable cans but in the end they are just $150 momentums made wireless with mediocre anc.
