Today is one of the saddest days in rock and beyond. We lost a musician, a singer, one tough hombre, a legend and a hero. Thank you for all that you have given us all these decades. RIP Dusty Hill May 19, 1949 - Jul 28, 2021 We love you and you will be sorely missed.

Yeah this next decade and next few years are going to be rough n tumble for the rock n roll community and fans when the icons and classic acts bands and artists who are going to pass on playing the great venue beyond.
It’s going to be weird tho when there’s like no Beatles alive or no Stones or any of a large number of bands and artist, thankfully we got to live and for many see these artists live in concert. ZZ Top was obv a favorite live show-Long live Rock!

@Stephen Beck-von-Peccoz Yeah, but have you seen Elwood play, no stage presence. Billy is lost without him, sure he can play the music but that alone is not the Top we know and grew up with. I know everything comes to a change, I guess we will have to wait and see.

I loved ZZ Top when I first heard them. That was a cassette tape I found walking home from school. A few years later, Navy boot camp. We had just been issued our summer white uniforms. Someone managed to get a boom box and then... 80 guys dancing around in their dress whites to A Smart Dressed Man. It was awesome. Carry on gentlemen, caught you in concert here in Virginia a few years ago.

I worked in an office building across the highway from Chicken Oil. It was great seeing y’all back then. Next, I saw you after the Fabulous Thunderbirds before the Rolling Stones at the Dallas Football Stadium where the Cowboys played football!!! Awesome!!! You guys are amazing. I'm a black guy, born in N Carolina, raised in Pittsburgh Pa. I remember being in junior high in 72-73 and starting to see this graffitti for "ZZTop'. "What is ZZTop?" I pronounced it like 'stop' but with a 'z'. The kids said a new group in Texas. I started paying real attention with LaGrange and Tush. Summer of 76 they came to Pittsburgh on the World Wide Texas Tour with Aerosmith , featuring Point Blank. Badass show. I went to college then joined the army. Exactly ten years later I saw them in Munich in 1986, different, but for me just as awesome. I did not understand why i liked them so much until I found out about their Blues roots. Then it all made since. Still lov'em to this day.

First time I saw ZZ Top was when I was a young USAF Airman stationed at Dyess AFB, Texas in the very early 1971. Not much to do in Abilene but get drunk, smoke, and party. Well, someone from our Air Force group of party animals at Dyess told us that there was good local band from Houston that was going to play at the Abilene High School. We didn’t know the name of the band but we went just for something to do on that Friday night.
Well, ZZ Top came out on that small high school band, dressed in jeans and sweat shirts with arms cut off. They rocked that place down big time. We all knew that this new band had the sound and we all thought and knew that they were going to make it big in the future.

What impressed us the most was that there was no fancy light show, just 3 guys playing their heart out for the audience. A few years later in 1974, our same group of party animals went to see them at their annual concert at the University of Texas Austin football filed. It was an outdoor concert with around 90,000 in attendance.
They had ZZ Top, Santana, Bad Company, and Joe cocker at that 12-hour outdoor concert. ZZ top was the headliner. This time they came out on stage in white sequined sparkling suits instead of jeans and sweatshirt but they still played just as good or even better than the first time we had seen them before they became popular worldwide. Being at the high school concert in 1971 was like being part of ZZ Top history. I’m now 71 years old retired USAF, Vietnam Veteran, and still listen and rock with ZZ TOP music!

Billy Gibbons lives here in Boise, Idaho. Has his very own guitar shop here and he built a couple Harley V-Twin guitars for our local harley shop, they are amazing! Got to meet him at a blues show over his and mine love of BEARDS! Yes, I too, have a ZZ TOP BEARD! The dude is just amazing himself!!!

I grew up loving rock'n roll and met some Oklahoma boys introduced me to country. I have always loved the blues. There's just so much talent and music in Texas!!! Absolutely love these guys. ZZ Top isnmy husbands favorite band. Seen them many times and their car. I swear Sharp Dressed Man was written about him...He thinks so too!! I am so proud I was blessed to live in this great state.

I believe Jimi stated the above on the Dick Cavett Show. Billy was in a band before ZZ top called the Moving Sidewalks, they opened for Jimi Hendrix and the Experience in '68. Jimi and Billy were staying in a hotel and had opposing rooms. Billy talks in an Interview with Marc Maron about how Jimi showed him tricks on the guitar and that they would swap licks! Man I was going to a job and stopped at a convenient store to get gas (I live in Seabrook tx) and a Mercedes pulled in next to me at the gas pump. Dude has a long beard and I asked him if he played in ZZ Top, he said sometimes. I talked to that dude for about 5 minutes. This was Dusty the bass player. He asked me what I was up to, I told him I was going to work and he said me too. Well I pulled out before him but he passed me down the road and when he did he double tapped his horn in acknowledgment of me. The dude is such a regular guy that he just happens to play in a huge band. The guy is so nice and down to earth. I don’t know him but from that conversation, I can’t say anything bad about him
