The cobra kais were ruthless bullies who deserved a heck of a lot more than Miyagi dished out to them. Miyagi did just enough to beat them but did not punish them any further. This was my favourite scene in the whole movie, it is when the story turned and showed the cobrai kais despite their dominance were not invincible. After this Daniel was not a helpless lamb for them to attack whenever they wanted.

    About this scene:
The skeleton fight scene endured numerous takes because the actors complained that Fumio Demura (Pat Morita's stunt double) was hitting them too hard, which caused the scene to lose some of the choreography and authenticity. Fumio told the director that if he could use his own students they would get the shot in one take. The director agreed and they shot the fight scene successfully in one take. One of the doubles is a descendant of the legendary "King of the Frontier," Davy Crockett. (from MDB)

This dramatically powerful scene from a PG-movie from the 80s has the intensity of an R-rated movie. It leaves a mark on the viewers' psyche. We're still talking about it nearly 40 years later. Compare this to the passionless, neutered remake of this scene from 2010 version. That is one of the many reasons 80s films like this stand the test of time and so many modern play-it-safe mainstream films fade so quickly.

I agree with Bobby. Mercy is not “exactly” for the weak. Even the strong and skilled have their moments of being merciful. Bobby was shown to have that the most out of any of them. Johnny went on later throughout the years of the methods he learned and in addition with newer methods of karate and bringing the whole thing with Daniel to a resolution whether their enemies who became friends, or even are the best of frenemies. Dutch, however, being the most cocky and ill-tempered one of them all, has become too much more of John Kreese or even worse than him and later incarcerated. Tommy and Jimmy, however, I can’t say much about. More than likely Jimmy went on to learn the most orthodox methods of Karate.

Watching this scene now, I'm like "Dude, you're hitting it off so well with the girl you like--the most popular girl in school who should be out of your league!" I get that Daniel naturally wants some payback for all the crap he's taken from Johnny and the other Cobra Kai bros but he probably would have had a great night with Ali if he hadn't walked away from her to prank Johnny. Hell, if he had let him smoke that joint, Johnny probably would have been too chill the rest of the night to bother Daniel.

Seeing this scene after watching Cobra Kai makes you understand that Johnny wasn't so bad after all. I mean, Daniel even provoke a car accident after doing his mischief. I think he deserved the beating lol

Assualted by 5 people. That's deserved from a harmless prank? Johnny already got payback after beating Daniel down the way he did. Making Dutch hold him in place for a potential serious injury was too far.

Johnny got a little wet. And the only reason why Daniel did that was because Johnny beat up Daniel, git him kicked off the soccer team and then destroyed his bike. Johnny was the bully.
