It's funny how all the bad androids in Alien universe have been British while all the good ones have been American. Even Andy switches back n forth once the module is put in and taken out.
David Jonsson who plays Andy did such a phenomenal job, the way he switches from childlike Andy, to the more intelligent improved Andy made the whole movie. Also, in the Alien universe, androids are generally met with skepticism and mistrust by many people, especially those who have had direct experiences with them. They're androids built by the Weyland Yutani company, which comes with its corporate control and agenda. "Building Better Worlds" "We Know Whats Best For You" are some of their slogans. They are known to usually be "company before everything", much like Ash from Alien, or Burke(though he was human) from Aliens. Androids are just as much integral to the movie as the Xeno's are. One of the reasons why people didn't like the other movies like Prometheus, and Alien: Covenant was that it tended to leave you with more questions than you went in with, and more left unanswered. I always saw them as a Walter/David story set in the Alien universe.
The evolution of the artificial people in the WYU has become my favorite part. Andy being the bridging model between Walter and Ash/Rook adds a lot of depth to the timeline.
I don’t think it’s accurate that androids are met with skepticism in the Aliens universe as Burke and all the marines seem to get along if not outright like Bishop. Ripply is the only one who has a problem with him. Everyone else either likes him or treats him with apathy. We met them with mistrust because Ripply does (understandably so) but if you remember in Aliens Bishop is surprised that Ripply holds animosity towards him and Burke even tells Ripply he’s sorry for not mentioning it as androids have become so commonplace it didn’t occur to him that it would be a problem. In Prometheus and in Covenant no one ever doubts or mistrust David or Walter as they are seem as machines meant to serve them. It would be like people today holding prejudices/mistrust against Siri or Alexa.
Remember that Blade Runner and Alien basically takes place in the same universe. I believe that people called Ryan Goslin's character a skin job as a slur against synthetics.
At first I very much didn’t like that that they used the late great Ian Holm’s likeness for “Rook”, but later I found out that not only did his family approve, they said also Ian would’ve loved to have been part of this movie because he loved working on the first one so much. And I agree he would’ve loved to have been a part of this, just watch old interviews of him talking about Alien. Also, I thought it was very clever for the company to name their androids after chess pieces, like Bishop and Rook. It shows what the company thinks not only of its androids, but of all of its employees, as nothing more than disposable pieces on a game board that can easily be replaced.
The company is such an amazing dystopian entity. Just think about it. We see companies come and go, even big ones. But Weyland-Yutani is everywhere, to the point where years long cryo sleep space travel has become the norm. It exists for literally centuries, ever growing. I can hardly wait for the Bluray to come out. When I saw it in the cinema I enjoyed it, but the myriad little winks and nods to the other films (visual, script, music, etc...) did take me out a TINY bit of the movie. They just distracted me a bit. Watching this reaction was great because at least I know I can ignore the winks and nods next time I watch it. I did really enjoy this movie.
I have watched the film several times in the theater and at home. The amount of detail in this film is exceptional. Here are two spoiler alerts: When the Corbelan crashes into the Romulus's hanger it slams into the side hitting the opened air lock doors. When the doors close the right edge has bent metal damaged from the impact. When Rain is "saved" by the Xenomorph's tail and brought up face to face it is the one that came out of Navarro. When Bjorn was using the electric prod to try and kill the Xeno in the cocoon, the alien was still in the final stages of forming. Thus the Xeno had electric currents running thru the right side of it's head as it was part of it's "anatomy"
The Offspring's reveal in total silence was really unnerving and took my breath away from terror. This movie is a really amazing addition to the entire franchise.
A lot of us are absolutely head over heels in love with the star Cailee Spaeny! I’d totally recommend seeing Priscilla if you haven’t already. Directed by the legendary Sofia Coppola who should be a household name by this point.

Two other Sci-Horror films with hostile aliens in them are "Species" (1995), and "Life" (2019). Admittedly they are not as good as the Alien franchise, but they can give you several jump scares.
The Offspring scared the crap out of me in the movie theater then my dad made a joke saying “they grow up so fast” and I couldn’t help but giggle.

Weyland-Yutani is so big and influential that something like years long cryo sleep travel to other planets is apparently just the norm. I find this mind boggling just from a time scale perspective. Companies tend to come and go, we've seen the fall of several big players in our own personal lifetimes, but here we have a company so big, that it outlives countless of human generations.
9:07 Not to sound like a Tankie, but this is literally late stage capitalism. lol
17:10 Not a single reaction of where she does not accuse a guy of cheating as her first thought. "That's lower conscious thinking." But Isabela Merced being pregnant is funny due to another role.
28:24 Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand they missed it. "But you have my sympathies."
29:16 They don't lay eggs, they merge the parasitic alien & host DNA to form the xenomorph inside of them.
37:15 Everything reminds me of her...
38:36 It's in the spirit of the original H. R. Geiger art. The xenomorph with its head resembles a phallus and the face hugger (if you look closely at its underside) a vagina.
52:54 Aaaaaaaaaaaaand they missed it, again. T_T
To me this movie felt like a blend between Alien, Alien Isolation (really really good game btw), and a bit of Alien 3, Prometheus, and Alien Covenant. Unfortunately you won't get the references they threw in here, especially regarding the baby, since you stopped at Aliens.
You guys have got to watch Prometheus and Alien covenant... They are the prequels
They are not prequels, lol
@@dicekolev5360 what are they then???
@@dicekolev5360 They take place before this and the other movies. How are they not prequels?
They should just continue where they left. They missed a lot of references, even from the original Alien.
@@dicekolev5360 The hell you talking about? They quite literally are.
Cailee Spaeny is also great in Pacific Rim 2. She has good chemistry with Jon Boyega.
No way she called the most explicitly shown capitalist dystopia "communist"... the Red Scare and its consequences....
Alien romulus take place between Alien and Aliens. This Movie is the Best long time
This is definitely a good movie and underrated because of all the haters
@@Xenomorph.fan24 haters never shut up
@@charlesharry7901 absolutely agree it may not be as good as alien or aliens but it’s much better than the other films after aliens
@@Xenomorph.fan24 that your opinion. Everybody love this movie Alien romulus best movie since 80s
@@charlesharry7901 I agree I really like this film but alien and aliens are better but it is the third best in a good way. But I respect that
Yes, some of these shots were amazing at the theater!
Ripley IS a mother. Her daughter Amanda was 12 in the original film but died before the second.
and her story in Isolation is great
What I love about that movie are all those sound effects from Alien: Isolation. That movie payed good respects for the original movie and the game.
I like that they also put the save phone in there, and when you see them in the movie, things are bout to get bad.
38:34 I spilled my juice out😂😂 wasn't expecting this from Achara. Good Lord.
Achara you and steph have to watch the other Evil dead movies
9:09 you meant captalistic
was about to say the same thing, indentured servitude is free labour for a corporation
I’ll go with “corporate hegemony.”
@@DoktorStrangelove ... so capitalism?
@@ultave Pretty much, yeah 🤷♂️
It's kind of both.
lmao steph reaction to the alien hybrid lol
Finally
.. an alien movie with an intelligent plot.. great characters. And actors and director on board to produce something worthy of the material .
What're you babbling about?
0:23 Nope. This one takes place 20 years after "Alien" and 37 years before "Aliens".
How do you work that out.
If I'm correct it's the director who said that
Because it is Rook who says that the events of the film take place twenty years after the events of Alien and, consequently, thirty-seven years before Aliens since the latter takes place fifty-seven years after Alien.
@@fabiosegretario1986 i always find odd everyone take that date at face value, even the peoples who made the sequels... Because the only time it's mentioned is in a FUCKING DREAM!
@@oliviawilliams6204 The dream sequence is mixed with a real one, also because then when Repley wakes up from the dream he makes a joke, saying that he "slept too long", to underline the enormous time gap that there has been since he was in cryosleep.
Also because then in the Special Edition, Burke gives Repley news of his daughter Amanda who he discovers is over sixty and already dead.
This movie didn’t disappoint at all!
This movie was garbage copying and steeling one liners from the original.
I actually really enjoyed both of your reactions. I liked that yall haven’t seen all of them. So many reactors ive seen are super fans and it can be a little overwhelming watching with super fans. Great reaction from both of you.
38:43 H.R. Griger said he designed the xenomorph to be a perversion of the human body. Nastiness achieved
Achara, Steph, so happy you two are watching this. I've seen this movie twice in theaters, can't stop watching it to be honest. Really looking forward to buying it on DVD/Bluray. I enjoyed the human aspect of this movie, the whole cast seems tight knit, on/off screen.
David Jonsson steals the show. I only cared about him, honestly.
Michael Fassbender is my favorite "Artificial Person" followed closely by Andy. Great actors, both!
Sad
The best duo reactor combo for sure. Stephs reactions are so good. Great voice.
love how they telling them to jump out in the chest burster scene but theyre literally in space
The chestburster scene was perfect, from the x-ray to Isabela’s scream, just perfection 👌🏻
Omg... Steph is freaking gorgeous 🎉
There is a Fan Cut for this filme. That edition has less references to the other films, less CGI face and less endings, its called "Alien Romulus [Edição-CSJ]".
lol so happy to see this I can close out my work shift with this video … perfect timing 😊
People forget, Ripley has a daughter, Amanda Ripley, whom you can play in the game Alien Isolation. You two would have a blast with it. Great game.
The movie that I remember Cailee Spaeny most from is Pacific Rim: Uprising. She played Amara Namani. The girl who built the illegal Jaeger from scrape and was subsequently recruited as a cadet jagger pilot.
43:27 I love how Andy lit flipped a 180 on them on what they were gonna do to him 🤟🏽🙌🏽
I really didn't expect much from this movie, especially after what we saw in covenant, but it was a pleasant surprise, the film went back to the roots of more suspense and not too much action, one of the best movies of the year imo.
This Movie & These Actors Have Rejuvenated The Alien Franchise. For Many years No One could Replace Segourney ..It still took two really good actors, to carry Segourneys Torch...Well Done Cast and Crew... Everyone involved..
44:25 - U guys need to watch the prequels of the Alien francise to understand this part/scene of the lore.
You're wrong, this movie takes place between Alien and Aliens
Thr black guy plays a weird robot so well. What a great actor.
David Johnson, remember the name, he’s hopefully gonna have a huge career.
@@thedarkknight2221i saw him in Industry few years ago and remember thinking he was great at acting, fun to see him get big roles. Hopefully more!
Alien 3: Assembly Cut is definitely worth watching. Prometheus and Covenant … watch them because they do tie into Romulus.
Yes please continue the alien franchise!
Speaking of Aliens, I recommend Men in Black trilogy. It's totally worth it 👌.
omg hi!!! ive been waiting for your reaction sm
The *”Offspring”* looked like every nightmare I’ve ever had rolled into one, cloned itself, fucked the clone, and then birthed THAT! Also the director said the video game Alien: Isolation was a massive influence on this movie, and it shows. He literally put things like the save points and emergency levers from the game in the background. I genuinely believe that Romulus’ success helped to green light the sequel to Isolation.
That is... Horrifyingly accurate.
@@refurbishedtechpriest9076 finally someone gets it! And now if you are a DBZA fan I gotta ask. What’re you doin? What’re you doing? Thwartin’ my plans?
@@thedarkknight2221 Thwarting your plans...? ... Yes.
Muffin button would've solved all of this. Also What has science done!
@@theeLonelyRedPanda sweetheart I don’t see a sandwich with that beer.🤣🤣🤣🤣God they turned him into such a monster!
Great movie reaction 😀😀👍You are both awesome 😀👍Film was fantastic, Great cast and looked fantastic, great soundtrack as well, Sending ❤from Scotland 👍✌️
Best CinePals reaction ever! Well done ladies!
My two favourite!
This movie put the fire back in to the Alien franchise, it's ao good. Loved the reaction, Steph, so gorgeous
This movie sucked so bad. No we're near the alien, and aliens vibe. It put the corn in corny using the the one liners from the original movies
watching this in theather makes it even crazier with the sound design, and the silence, i watched it 3 times in theather
4D was so fun for me!!
This was such a good movie, i was trying so hard not to scream in the theater
I can hardly wait for the Bluray to come out.
When I saw it in the cinema I enjoyed it, but the myriad little winks and nods to the other films (visual, script, music, etc...) did take me out a TINY bit of the movie. They just distracted me a bit.
Watching this reaction was great because at least I know I can ignore the winks and nods next time I watch it.
I did really enjoy this movie.
So no one’s gonna talk about how good Steph looks
Isabella Merced is great in this movie 🎥!!
I need watch comedy after this movie reaction before I go sleep 😂😂😂😂, good reaction ladies ❤❤❤❤
The Offspring's reveal in total silence was really unnerving and took my breath away from terror. This movie is a really amazing addition to the entire franchise.
Loved the movie. First time watching an alien movie in theaters. My parents did not allow me to go see alien vs predator when it first came out.
The offspring is one of the best looking horror creatures i have seen in a while.
Felt like such an improvement over the Newborn 🤮🤮
@@oliviawilliams6204 Newborn was alright but The Offspring was much better. Having an actual actor in a suit/makeup definitely helped.
It takes place between Alien and Aliens!
I love that they stuck with the analog tech.
0:47 the second movie I've seen that presentation with that detail...
I don't do scary movies, but for an Achara and Steph reaction I'll brave it. Glad I did, it was a fun watch.
A lot of us are absolutely head over heels in love with the star Cailee Spaeny! I’d totally recommend seeing Priscilla if you haven’t already. Directed by the legendary Sofia Coppola who should be a household name by this point.
I love this movie just so very much, and I was rooting for Andy the whole entire time. I just loved watching the both of y'alls reactions to this movie!! Y'all are just so adorable!! I love y'all!!
Great reaction, well done on getting through it.
Fantastic reaction to a great film! Excellent choice!
You guys definitely need to watch The Negotiator on 1998 I believe this Samuel l Jackson I think you would like
Two other Sci-Horror films with hostile aliens in them are "Species" (1995), and "Life" (2019). Admittedly they are not as good as the Alien franchise, but they can give you several jump scares.
Galo Olivares worked as cinematographer in Alfonso Cuarón's ROMA and GRETEL AND HANSEL
Many elements from the game Alien: Isolation were used in this movie.
Love watching reactions with Steph
