I'm so conflicted as Constantine is one of my favourite comic characters, and this movie failed as a good movie about the comic-version Constantine. However, on its own it's a damn fine movie and does deserve a sequel. Keanu did make it his own, Tilda Swinton is as awesome as ever, and Stormare did an all-time iconic Lucifer. Matt Ryan did by far the best portrayal of John Constantine if people are just trying to satisfy comic nerds like me, but even I can't deny Keanu his dues on this movie.
@@raerth Agreed. I enjoyed this movie for what it is, but Keanu never felt right to me in the role. After seeing Paul Bettany's performance in "A Knight's Tale" back in the day, I always thought he would have been the better fit - even to this day. He had just the right amount of sarcastic wit and devil-may-care swagger in that film - it would have translated well had he been casted as Constantine. But his turn as Vision throughout the MCU has been pretty great too.
You missed the end credits. John goes to Chaz grave and leaves memento..only to see him on top of tombstone as angel and John smiles. The casting of Tilda Swinton as Gabriel is one of my favorite things about this movie. If you look at Renaissance era paintings of angels, she looks just like them.

The "Holy Water??" line in the hospital near the end, is all that remains of Michelle Monaghans role in the movie after an entire part of the plot was written out. Her character Ellie was to be John's grilfriend and there was a whole story arc with him finding out her true nature...so when he says to the group that he will deport them "...every one of you", he is particularly addressing her in that scene...as in, hes not going to show her any different treatment because of their relationship. A Walk in the Clouds is one of Keanu's movies no one really talks about, and it's one of my faves along with The Lake House. I hope you guys check out the Lucifer series considering how much you liked this version of Luci.
For this film's continuity, we can partially make a case for that, in the way Keanu Reeves plays him (he doesn't want to die and fall in the hands of demons he has scorned over the years), but redemption seems for him such like an alien concept he has never fully grasped it, and now his time is running out, there is a bit of fatality in the idea he will never grasp the basics to check that box in time. As for the comic, that's not exactly the case: Constantine is a bit of selfish, bordering on asshole, guy: he originally is going to hell for facilitating the murder of several friends, his gf and a possessed child when his group of friends (amateur fans of the occult) tried to make an amateurish exorcism. That experience not only scarred him, it also left him cursed to always find trouble, and to have anyone he calls "friend" killed. That partially forces him to be a bit of an asshole to anyone, but also, after witnessing the horrors of beyond, he got an ever more cynic view of life where anything is worth it... if it means you can live another day.
You two are up there with the best reaction duo on YT...picking up on so much so fast but not talking through almost any of it. Too many reactors either don't follow the story well or talk so much that it gets annoying but you two hit an almost perfect balance rarely seen. Excellent content, please keep it up!!
You should also know that John Constantine is a master of the dark arts not just an exorcist and thats why he can cast that spell to draw out the killer with the Rune tattooed onto his forearms.
Balthazar was played by musician Gavin Rossdale. He's the former lead singer of the band Bush. He was also in an episode of Criminal Minds. Man's a good singer AND a good actor.

I think Constantine's issue was that he didn't believe that he deserves redemption himself.
I remember an interview where Keanu was asked if he could make a sequel to any movie, he said it would be Constantine.
Peter Stormare is the best Lucifer on any screen.
what a nice reaction of new fans of this move, focused on it 100%, good comments, what a great duo........10/10
THE DUO IS BAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK....iconic
Im impressed you guys both called the sacrifice ploy right before it happened!
And I wonder if Chaz still popped in on Papa Midnight, to get his club membership?😊
Peter Stormare is incredibly underrated and this might be his best role.
The most badass exorcist ever is in the details.
Balthazar was played by musician Gavin Rossdale. He's the former lead singer of the band Bush. He was also in an episode of Criminal Minds. Man's a good singer AND a good actor.
Watch "Legion"staring Paul Bettany 👍
YES
Underrated movie as well
You guys are so great with reactions, please do more!
Please do a reaction to Lucky Number Slevin !!
Yes!
You guys (well, guy and gal) make a great team up. This film is one of my all time favorites, and you made this watch very satisfying. Love your channel-keep 'em coming!
Peter Stormare the best Lucifer ever.
Period!!!
I worked an event where Keanu Reeves was talking about his career and he said one of his favourite moments (this was before John Wick) and he said one of his favourite moments was being able to flip off satan in this movie lol
Keanu is anything but flat in Bill & Ted.
🤣🤣🤣 .. sounds so dirty at 28:38 ,, "If you're gonna go in, at least wear protection!" 🤣🤣🤣
You missed the end credit scene.
28:37 "Like, if you're gonna go in at least wear the protection" applies out of context too lmao
When I first heard about this movie, I never knew it was actually based on a DC comic. I just thought it was just a generic Keanu Reeves movie. But, since it got a cult following and was put on some lists of must-watch Keanu Reeves and DC movies, I guess what goes around comes around.
Kicking the crab! 🦀
It's like when you're a level 1 character and you need easy experience points! 🎮
you skipped the after credits scene
Keanu is basically the modern Clint Eastwood
'The Spear of Destiny' (via the Holy Bible)
is the spear a Roman soldier pierced into Jesus' heart, on the Cross, & 'Adolpho H.' took it to Austria for legendary Powers...!
I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Your reactions and summary validated my fanboy self haha
The cop, Rachel Weisz is married to Daniel Craig, so she's Mrs James Bond.
Constantine 2 was announced earlier in the year with Keanu returning!
