In mountain flying you ALWAYS keep an OUT

- This village is located in the Star Mountains of West Papua. Its supplies, transportation and evacuations only happen by plane or rarely by helicopter. The terrain surrounding Alemsom is rugged and goes as high as 12500 feet elevation. For that reason roads are inexistant making it "A true Pilot's Home". Watch and enjoy the beautiful and breathtaking views!

Your message of flying is art. We are fortunate to have you telling your story of these hardy people and your dedication to provide them what they need, a real bond maker is stronger than words. Thank you for your passion.
Hey Knut! Your words are too kind and touch me deep. I wouldn’t be making this kind of content if I haven’t seen yours first. You’ve been part of my journey and I appreciate your passion for aviation as well. So for that I thank you too!
@@APilotsHome Thank you, André. That’s inspiring for me to hear that. These past months I have been very busy but I yearn to fly again. I was invited to fly in a Cub for the first time. I hope you still enjoy that moment of focused calm we all seek to find in the sky.
I wish you all the best.
God always be with you in you mission
The best plane for that job : the Pilatus Porter !!
Like a doctor you are in the business of generating gratitude. Your face makes lots of people happy. Good for you.
My phone had told me this was a new video. Early on I remembered I saw it. No Matter, I watched again with same feelings. You have my dream job. Where do you fly out of? My wife asked
Thank Bruce! Glad you enjoyed rewatching it again 😆🙌 I fly between Sentani, Wamena, Nabire and Oksibil mostly. Cheers!
Wonderfull must be this land and peopel Thank you for sharing this aventure God bless you bravo pilot ❤😊
Thank you 🙏
Gosh, I may have said this in another video of yours, possibly not, i cannae remember: How i watch these videos with quiet envy. Your job is the exact job i dreamt of when i was young. How wonderful to fly and help people. :) I hope you have a wonderful day.
Thank you so much for your kind words. What did you end up doing in your career if not flying?
@@APilotsHome Kind of you to ask! Colourblindness was always a barrier to becoming a pilot, so i joined the RAF reserve as a mission support specialist; briefing and debriefing aircrews etc. After that I went into academia with radar research and that seems to be the trajectory in life. :) I suppose we all go where life takes us. How did you get into the excellent work you're doing? Was it always your plan? Just to add, I've really enjoyed your videos. The turbo porter has to be up there amongst my favourite aircraft and your photography and production are A1. Anyhoo, have a great new year!
A dangerous but very pleasant job as a pilot when you are greeted by such happy people. Thanks for another beautiful video!❤
Glad you enjoyed watching it!
Local music, chants, never went astray in the past. Always lovely to see your work.
Thank you very much 🙏
Классное видео. Привет из Волгограда. 🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺
Totally, totally impressed… it’s a referencing breath to see a completely technically competent pilot combined with mature social and communicative skills… we were all impressed- especially the glove off before handshake- that communicated tons … just my $0.02
Thank you for your kind words!
Love that tail wheel shot on the way up
It is really beautiful, the landscape, the flying, the human value. Thanks you for sharing 🙂❤.

Unbelievable rear view! Please add it in next video!
Thank you sir! Will try 😁
R.I.P to Rob, he was a great friend and will be greatly missed
Thx for sharing with us!
My pleasure!
Just had a "backflash" of my Flying adventures in the Caribbean. Thank you..!
Beautiful place, thrilling video!
Many thanks!
Take off gloves before handshake, maybe just little thing we see here but that's how you respect people. I admire you Sir.
I noticed that also
Thank you for your kind works 🙏

Amazing flying
Condolences to your friends family and friends. In the early years of MAF, there seems to have been the odd accident. So I was told. A few were weather related, but as I learnt later, the odd pilot error did happen. Failure to go round. Wasnt there an unwritten rule "if in doubt, go out.?" I believe this was back in the old PNG days. I'm open to correction. You are working in great environment. If you applied for a position as a Top dressing pilot down here in Nz, I reckon you'd romp in. Good news. All stock are removed from the airstrip. Thank you again for sharing your experiences. Wishing you a HNY2024. Take care mate.
Respect !
This type of flying surely is an art. Your videos as well! Thanks!
Thank you so much for your words!
Incredible location, amazing flying, breathtaking images and excellent editing. Thank you so much for sharing this. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.

@@APilotsHome HAPPY NEW YEAR to you too.
Some of us really do have good jobs. I’m sure you deserve it though, awesome video. Thanks man
I appreciate that man! Keep well!
Thank you for showing us your flights!
I wish you a happy new year and many beautiful and safe flights !
Greatings from south Germany!
I'm watching Your channel for a while now and see a huge progress. There so many things I like (no voice commentary, choose of music etc.). Each video looks better and better. Maybe it's youtube but do You add "hdr" filter or something like that? Sometimes video just looks way to sharp or to have to much contrast. Besides that it's alway a pleasure to watch! It's seems like dream job, away from the "normal" problems.
Fantastic video, thank you. Inspiring..
Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. It’s mesmerising to watch. Thanks for taking us on this journey! 🙏🏼
Wow beautiful ❤
So beautiful vid full of poetry
Thank you so much🙏
Wow, breath taking views is almost an understatement ❤

DIOS TE BENDIGA, por la Noble labor que realizas en bien al projimo... Desde Chile un Gran Abrazo...
Excellent
Real aviation.
I was in Papua about 10 years ago and in spite of the "problems", it is some kind of paradise. I will suspect your base is Sentani. Do you know if one can buy a round trip Sentani-Sentani, hopping for the day from one landing strip to the other, or, even better, stopping by at one mission for a day or two before hopping back in the Pilatus? Thank you.
Thanks Sir...............wonderful moments......................Happy New Year
Piloto de avião e de drone! Parabéns!
Beautiful! Thank you for your work.
Thank you too!
Great❤
You inspired me to make a game like this.
Let me know when you finish it 🙏😁
Fantastic! You would get a job as a carrier pilot anyday😅
Thank you! I’d love to fly a fighter jet!!
My company flew Hercs into Moro when it first opened in 1990. It looked something like that, but there was a mountain at the end!
Sometimes THERE ISN'T AN OUT! 😊
One way strip.
Now I hear tourists are going there! 🤣
Good I like
Thanks for liking
I wish, I Would Fly With You In This Plane
Would love to get a closer call to your experience with the PC6 on this kind of operation. Great vids
Thank you! My next video will be more detailed on technical side of things. Hope you’ll enjoy it!
thank you for a great channel 👍
love it! (subscribed)
quick question please:
what are the plates/paddles behind main undercarriage wheels for?
Did I hear the stall warning go off just before landing? Also the planes frame just shook a lil too. Love it when we hear you converse with the people. Kids are cute
I'd consider a stall landing to be a perfect landing.
@@Landrew0 yup just split seconds from touchdown. That’s how good he is
I've got some expirience to operate tail-weel plane (An-2, Chmelak Zlin-37a). There is non-pleasure property to attempt do a circle during a landing. Does PC-6 so?
Thank you for your videos! What's with the kind of putty at the wing root and cockpit window?
Siempre las mejores aventuras aéreas, más salvajes, una consulta que marca es tu reloj😃😃👍👍👍💯💯💯💯
Im korea 👍👍👍👋👋👋
This reminds me of that boogalooga airstrip with the drop off at the top. I fly in msfs.
🤩😍
How will you find the CG for this aircraft after loading?....is there any manual calculation like 25% of the mean aerodynamic chord and 40% chord of the wing is the CG of this plane or will you calculate using moment by weight?
.....
❤❤
A great airplane for that job. The Swiss know mountains
Awsome, loved the whole presentation. Rice.......Brown or White?
Most likely - WHITE
Thank you ! It’s white. Papuans favourite 😂
hi those things under the wings that look like misile what is that??? thank you for your answer and Happy New year
Try to relocate some of the old Airstrips in Laos?
Swiss mountain pilot here:
Even if keeping a way out in mountain flying is a most sensible advice, there are times when you don't have any! When approaching the pretty spectacular Courchevel airport in France, when you are midway down the final, you have no option but to land, no turn to the right, no turn to the left, no go-around! If you botched your approach, you are gonna break something... or worse! And that happens practically every year!
The runway is hard-surfaced and wider than the airstrip shown in this video, but probably shorter (537 m) and certainly much steeper (18.66%), which makes it the steepest runway in the world... so steep that if you have the bad idea to stop before the platform with a light-powered aircraft (a C-172 for example), even full power won't get you moving... you'll have to be towed! It feels like a carrier landing! Snow and ice on the runway in the winter makes it even more fun!
The History Channel program Most Extreme Airports ranks it as the seventh most extreme airport in the world.
It is nevertheless used by pretty large airplanes, like Dash-7s or Super King Airs! There is even some occasional airline operations by Alpine Airlines.
The GREAT thing is that it stands in the middle of the ski slopes. So, once landed, you park your plane, takes the skis out, put them on and ski away... the first run is even free of charge!

I agree that "Always keep an OUT" is a healthy idea, but there are quite a few landing strips in PNG and probably in West Guinea as well where you are comitted to land from some point of the approach. Same at St. Barts for RWY 28 or at Lukla.
I have watched landings there ( both successful and not so much). As a pilot myself I think “wow”
If only I could stop ground looping the turbo Porter in MSFS when I try these types of landings.
What is it on tyres? Mud fenders?
how does reverse work?
