@@braddersj3511 LPL wasn't able to pick Bowley locks, check videos 636 and 653. Although it is possible to pick them, it requires special lockpicks that you have to make yourself, and there's only like 3 people on Earth who have picked Bowley locks (granted, if those special lockpicks were easily available, this number would be orders of magnitude larger).
Would be a good idea for you to design your own lock for best in class security. You could license it to a manufacturer. Additionally, you could have a chart or ranking system on a website people could reference to purchase acceptably secure locks.
i don't think it would work, really... it is like hunting - one learns patterns and adjusts... what this guy does is adapting and overcoming... innovation is a different spectrum. both are equal... BUT, unless the person is a LITERAL GENIUS, he will be good at ONE thing, not both. those that create puzzles are creative type, those that solve those puzzles are logical type.

I have always wondered how these locks worked. We use them at work. They are cool because all the keys can open one lock but not all locks. So say all keys open the restrooms and office breakroom, but only a few open the warehouse and front door. And only your key opens your office. My key will open 3 different keyed doors.
I started watching LPL for the same reason, to understand the master key concept. It's simple for example if you have locks with 7 pins, you repin them exactly the same then from each lock remove a different pin. Now you have 7 locks which you can open with the same master key but every lock can have a unique key if you modify part of the key corresponding with a missing pin. Local locksmith tries to rob me for a set of 9 locks with a master and 4 different keys. After a few dozen LPL videos, I ordered 10 cheap Chinese dimple locks and a big repining set for an ultra-small fraction of locksmith price. After a few hours of work now I have my custom locks and new PC bought for the price difference.
@@denismilic1878 heck yeah! I was looking at the core and pin kits online. And you can do custom keys at Walmart and ACE still. Just tell them the bitting numbers.
@@scottcol23 in my case no need for custom keys my locks come with 8 keys. I made a copy of one lock and automatically have 8 keys for it. If the hole for the removed pin is shallow just drill it a little. Else if it's very deep just put some solder on it and drill a smaller hole. After that, you have the original key for each lock and you can make cheap copies very simply.

Most people leave a hidden door or window unlocked, or a key in an obvious fake rock, because they forget their keys so much, it's more likely that they will lock themselves out than be robbed.

I love LPL videos. They are short but informative, witty, elegant and excellently planned and made. One thing I have not seen so far is how the sliders work. Why is its weird shape. Do they rotate as the key gets in? Would it be possible to make a video showing their “underpinnings”?

For most normal purposes, this lock will work better than most. Again, dont forget this guy is better than almost everyone that picks locks. He is also better than people that makes locks.
Very cool. I only have one of these yales, and I didn't realize they place the security pin in the same position for every lock rather then randomizing it. Thats seems strange to me. As always great video, I always learn something new with your vids.

Hey lockpickinglawyer, I wanted to thank you for your videos. With watching your videos, I was able to pick my girlfriends parents camper after we locked the keys in the camper. And I was able to do it with a key ring that I cut in half and used one half as a tensioner and one as a hook. Thanks a lot
Seeing a demonstration of the drill protection of various locks with cobalt alloy bits, and an impact driver with a masonry bit, would be great. Both can be portable cordless tools to potentially drill out a lock.

Boy I'm sure am glad that I made the installer change this lock with the old fashion European key lock, and all though anyone who knows their shit could get into it it is more difficult to open then this one shown by Mr. Lawyer, thank you Sir, for educating me.
If anyone is watching these channels and is worried by how quick it is, a couple of things to consider: 1. Your average burglar is not going to be skilled, and is going to be throwing a brick through a window/kicking a door in/etc. anyway (or you’ll have left a door/window open). For your average thief, something LPL could deal with in five seconds may as well be one he couldn’t pick at all. If you do happen to have a lockpicking expert try to break in and you have superduper locks, he’ll try, fail.. then put a brick through a window anyway. 2. Most regular door locks can generally be bypassed anyway without picking it at all with a credit card frighteningly easily anyway, by just sliding it up the crack and pushing the latch in. Honestly, having Fort Knox-grade locks on your house probably won’t achieve anything but making you poorer.
Because only a fraction of a Promille of thieves are able to pick it at all. Don't take the extraordinary exceptions as representative of the average. You are pretty save with most decent locks; I would care more for brute force protection (strong frames and general construction, thought-through security protocols, like organizing who has access to what, maybe cameras or an alarm etc.). I would say most homes have weaknesses with weak windows, weak door frames or non-even security on all entrances (cheap backdoor?) or non-visible areas (thieves love them, they can spend more time doing bad stuff there without being afraid of being seen by neighbors, passerby etc.) Cheers!
@@TomJacobW The point is specifically that YOU ARE NOT SAFE WITH LOCKS. These locks only protect you against people WITHOUT THE WILL to pick your lock. Yes most people arent able to pick these locks, .. but thats not who would be attempting to pick them, its very likely if someone is picking your lock that they are NOT a beginner and thus would almost certainly be able to open it. If they had the will (or even the interest in searching this video) they suddenly transform into a major threat because they can defeat your lock with $8 worth of ebay tools.

It's funny when people say that "a person with skill could pick the lock" and this is true but... A lot of people who are "good" at picking locks don't have ANYTHING on this guy. A guy who knows locks by first glance and could potentially be one of the best pickers in the whole world. The average lock-pick thief is not going to break into any moderately competent lock and wouldn't attempt to pursue a pick if he's unable to get in after a few minutes because the risk level goes up. The point: Get a decent lock. Get a decent frame. Protect your windows or use tempered windows where vulnerable. Use an alarm and labelling. The best way to stop thieves is to deter thieves. You don't have to make your home impossible to break into... just not worth the risk.

I know explanation vids exist, not sure if they are on LPL. Security pin: something other than standard, so spool or serrated or mushroom etc. watch enough videos of this kind and you’ll see those pins pass by and the naming is pretty self explanatory. Those are all designed to make it hard to feel when you’ve picked the pin. The anti bump pin protects against a bump key, which is essentially a technique where you use a specially cut key to bump against all pins simultaneously, and hopefully the driver pins all retreat into the Bible while the key pins stay within the core.

These locks come standard in [Undisclosed Town in the UK], and always thought the keys were cool to show my friends at school. But uh...nice to see they were picked.
I would love to see LPL create challenging locks from ones he say would be good if they had false gates for instance, which I know in disc detainers would probably just need a little bite taken out of the discs.
Pretty sure that locks with such cylinders advice against installing them upside down as a security liability. And LPL is always picking these euro cylinders upside down, where some security pins might not engage, etc.
The lock is in the vice upside down - that can't be for no reason so I wonder how much harder it is if this lock is in a door as a less favourable angle/orientation. I do think LPL ought to pick the locks in the position one would find the lock....
Debatable. In dry places they place them like this so dust and stuff like that doesn't fall in the pinholes. I'm in Europe and all ours are upside down compared to this one, but it's pretty standard in southern US and Australia. Prob some different countries too.
Fairly easy. Notice the core is perpendicular to the pins in most basic locks. Just need a light to see what you need to inside the system, then bring what tools you need.
It is the same as the sicuremme series...appearance is solid, but at the core is cheply made and easily pickable. I suppose its strenght is the hardened connector that avoids snapping and breaking.
When watching these videos the first thing that comes to mind is - as a manufacture do not stick your company logo on the external-facing end of the lock, the second is don't call your lock 'Superior' when it only gets 1 star out of 3 for its security rating.
The fact that a standard junkie housebreaker willnae have the dexterity or education to follow this video I trust that my lock like this will hold up. Irrespective of how good your lock is it’s useless if you have windows as they can just get in with a brick
I have been wrestling with the 9 pin version of this lock for weeks! Thanks for showing how deep your false set went, I think my problem is I was expecting a deeper one. Seems I may have only been 4 fingers away from open. One question, if you could. How much tension did you use, compared to say a Master #3?
Bin at picking a week got padlocks cracked but this 7 pin lock is beating me I opened it once but a fluke well now I have a decent set of picks hopefully after watching u I mite get there

Is not having a false gate a fundamental problem with groove cut/slider pin, lock and key? Or is it just this implementation? My motorcycle has groove cut keys, I was just wondering how safe it is.
Can you tell us more about the slider mechanism? Also, pins 3 through 5 are super shallow, like the key is left blank there. Pin 2 and 3 look identical, but the key does not, while 6 and 7 look very different but the key does not. Can you explain why I can't see the relation between the pins and their position on the key?
Got one of these the other day, wanted to try my first slider lock. Spp"d it in about 15 mins, great lock for learning the basics I wonder if it would be worth a video on sidebars, sliders , rotate and lift pins etc..
well, considering the area and area knowing I live here... this lock might be usefull. might need to upgrade the chain frame for the older woman in the house, when i am not around... but, it is good to know how the lock gets picked. i just hope it happens when i am at home or anywhere nearby :D i might send you some "after" pictures" :D
wow, so it looked like you didnt even have to interact with any of the sliders? do they stay in the correct position because of the key, and there's no way to scramble them after you remove the key, just like you would scramble a combination lock to hide the last number of the combo? or am i missing something..? weren't there springs for those little sliders which would reset them and if so why didnt you have to touch them to open it?

These locks come standard in [Undisclosed Town in the UK], and always thought the keys were cool to show my friends at school. But uh...nice to see they were picked.

I would love to see LPL create challenging locks from ones he say would be good if they had false gates for instance, which I know in disc detainers would probably just need a little bite taken out of the discs.

Pretty sure that locks with such cylinders advice against installing them upside down as a security liability. And LPL is always picking these euro cylinders upside down, where some security pins might not engage, etc.
The lock is in the vice upside down - that can't be for no reason so I wonder how much harder it is if this lock is in a door as a less favourable angle/orientation. I do think LPL ought to pick the locks in the position one would find the lock....
Debatable. In dry places they place them like this so dust and stuff like that doesn't fall in the pinholes. I'm in Europe and all ours are upside down compared to this one, but it's pretty standard in southern US and Australia. Prob some different countries too.

Fairly easy.
Notice the core is perpendicular to the pins in most basic locks.
Just need a light to see what you need to inside the system, then bring what tools you need.

I was discussing your channel on my recent TH-cam rabbit hole and was like... my house key looks hard to pick! Guess not, as this is my house key.
It is the same as the sicuremme series...appearance is solid, but at the core is cheply made and easily pickable. I suppose its strenght is the hardened connector that avoids snapping and breaking.

Good luck... I’ve tried about a half dozen of these with the same results. Pretty unimpressed given the intimidating key.
Could you have done this with the lock around the correct way? You had it upside down in the demo

When watching these videos the first thing that comes to mind is - as a manufacture do not stick your company logo on the external-facing end of the lock, the second is don't call your lock 'Superior' when it only gets 1 star out of 3 for its security rating.
The fact that a standard junkie housebreaker willnae have the dexterity or education to follow this video I trust that my lock like this will hold up. Irrespective of how good your lock is it’s useless if you have windows as they can just get in with a brick

I have been wrestling with the 9 pin version of this lock for weeks! Thanks for showing how deep your false set went, I think my problem is I was expecting a deeper one. Seems I may have only been 4 fingers away from open.
One question, if you could. How much tension did you use, compared to say a Master #3?
on every lock i use about the same tension as pressing down a key on keyboard

I have the 3 star version of this lock , the key has more dimples on it, is this any more secure?
Bin at picking a week got padlocks cracked but this 7 pin lock is beating me I opened it once but a fluke well now I have a decent set of picks hopefully after watching u I mite get there

Although weirdly my key definitely has 8 marks for pins.
Is not having a false gate a fundamental problem with groove cut/slider pin, lock and key? Or is it just this implementation? My motorcycle has groove cut keys, I was just wondering how safe it is.
So if you stocked it back with serrated pins would it not then be a pretty decent lock? Even with the sliders not having false gates...
So how long does it take to put a lock like that back together?
About the same as taking it apart. Not hard if you understand the mechanism.

Can you tell us more about the slider mechanism? Also, pins 3 through 5 are super shallow, like the key is left blank there. Pin 2 and 3 look identical, but the key does not, while 6 and 7 look very different but the key does not. Can you explain why I can't see the relation between the pins and their position on the key?
The cheaper euro locks are easily snapped using mole grips?
Is been able to look at the key makes it easier to pick the lock?

Got one of these the other day, wanted to try my first slider lock.
Spp"d it in about 15 mins, great lock for learning the basics
I wonder if it would be worth a video on sidebars, sliders , rotate and lift pins etc..
The lock being picked is always mounted the other way up in my UK experience. Would this affect picking it since the pins would be the other way up??
Exactly what I thought - doubt we're going to it done in a normal position though...
well, considering the area and area knowing I live here... this lock might be usefull. might need to upgrade the chain frame for the older woman in the house, when i am not around... but, it is good to know how the lock gets picked.

wow, so it looked like you didnt even have to interact with any of the sliders? do they stay in the correct position because of the key, and there's no way to scramble them after you remove the key, just like you would scramble a combination lock to hide the last number of the combo? or am i missing something..? weren't there springs for those little sliders which would reset them and if so why didnt you have to touch them to open it?
He single pin picked all four sliders, that was what he spent all the time on.

Do you have a vid up with a Nemef lock? Looking atm at a Nemef 132/9P doorlock. It's a brand I have not seen you pick, but guessing it will not be a problem at all... 😀
