Honestly there are still plenty of things that they could do to improve pick resistance. Alternating spring pressure, countermilling combined with thinner lips on the serrations, tappering the keypins to provide an easier overset trap, false gates on the sliders, heavier warding in the keyway.
But, as has already been eluded to elsewhere in the comments, implementing all of these features begins to approach diminishing returns with regards to cost.
What I would like to see a lock company do when it comes to dimple style locks, is to place the nubs of the sliders on the opposite side from the key pins. I believe this could complicate picking substantially by making tension wrench use and placement more difficult. Then combine that with the spring loaded cam catcher feature that they already have and you'll force someone to use a long tension wrench that might interfere with the slider being set or staying set.

Very nice lock. Your picking was great as this has a lot of security pins. Most thieves wouldn't pick a lock they would force their way in destroying something.

Good to see lock companies mixing it up with the lock sport community. After watching me pick their (Lathams Hardware) locks they sent me some locks to test. They then announced they would be improving their locks, to which they did.

Nice improvements, and love that a lock company is reaching out. Only thing extra I could think of is maybe throw in a different strength spring, but seeing as it's a dimple maybe not as important.
One of the things I love is how easy one could repin it, it's great how it comes apart. Repining euros is usually a pain the butt.
But maybe that's fairly normal now, I don't see to many here in Oz, outside of screen doors... and maybe I only have the cheap ones 😀
Good idea with the springs
Was talking to the Apecs guys at a recent lock expo and I have to say they were the friendliest most approachable people there, more than willing to chat to me as a hobby picker. It's good when they take on board constructive criticism to help improve their products. 8 months late I know

Very interesting and I completely agree that it's commendable for a manufacturer to work with the Locksport community & gather our feedback. All that particularly strikes me is whether driver spring variation would be beneficial for them to try out, as that may not need a whole lot of retooling; and on a more major level, giving this 6 pins rather than 5. However the suggestion to add false gates or serrations to the sliders may be easier for them to incorporate without too much extra engineering.
I have had an idea for a while to get variable spring rates on the cheap. Use the same material for all the springs, but temper them at different temperatures or different time periods. This will insure that the springs are at different hardness and strength while using the exact same materials and shapes. The only real downside is they will all look the same if made from stainless steel, making it harder to insure that each lock has different strength springs.
@@superdupergrover9857 That certainly sounds like an idea worth following up. As a layman rather than metallurgist or materials specialist, I would be curious whether that would affect the overall life of the springs or change their Mean Time Between Failures, but given that the resting state of the lock would see the springs under less tension most of the time, that may lessen any such detrimental effect. Another thought would be to either shorten or lengthen the springs (within limits) on a per-chamber basis, and whether use of a balanced stack - with shorter drivers matched to longer keypins and vice versa - would also improve the resistance of the lock. Fascinating things to contemplate in any event.

@@LockNoob One thing I've wondered, as someone who knows nothing about slider mechanisms, is that I've seen a few guttings where the sidebar has very weak hairlike springs. In general, is there a reason why these are not more substantial or powerful? It seems like these would be one of the first components to fail or gunk up within the lock's normal lifetime. Is the aim of such springs to try and minimise or dampen any ability to detect gates?
Well, if I were looking to change my locks, and my door used a euro cylinder (neither of these things are likely to happen!) this one looks like it would definitely be on my short list. The anti-snap protection is probably worth it all on it's own.

That went well, but would be a bigger challenge for a lesser-skilled picker unfamiliar with the lock. Easy to 'drop' a set counter-rotating for one of those deep spools which look to be machined to a better-than-usual standard.
Kudos to APECS for sourcing and heeding advice here, and hoping they'll continue this in the future.
Yes, I single person who has picked the lock off camera already isn’t a good anti-pick test, that’s why I didn’t rush the pick and tried to explain what I was feeling etc .

VERY nice vid ash i liked that they mixed brass and steel drivers (always good to switch up the FEEL) i think that as it wears in a bit these will become somewhat more difficult as the tolerances even out thanks though i always love high security 3star cylinder vids and this one goes to the next level!

Btw, question - if you were to try to snap a Euro cylinder with anti-snap cuts and you just managed to break the core in half, as long as you cleaned out the remains, might you theoretically still be able to pick the remaining half?
even though you did pick the lock but in workbench conditions' what difficulty would you have when faced with the lock installed in a door ??
Position of the over set traps is important too. Long key pin with a serration or bevel directly in front of a short key pin is always more effective.

Well, I didn’t want to practice the pick to the point I could pick it in under 30s or anything, as that wouldn’t really show or prove anything. I guess a good test would be to pick say 10 of them with no key in a row and take an average?
@@LockNoob you could check if there's an ISO Standard for pick resistance and try that approach.
If there isn't: LN101 sounds like a good test setting 👍
With so many bits it looks like a pretty high sec lock, but false gates on those sliders would really kick it up a notch (pun intended) have a good'n!

Only the gutting was OOF for a few seconds a couple of times. My auto focus stopped working sadly
