Shadows dance pain, while the Light sings despairing,
Drawn here by Darshay and Windrider's plight.
Power new-won have the Singer and Dancer,
Power to shatter their curses at last-
Power that also could free the sad captives;
Power to break the bonds holding them fast.
Heart speaks to heart in the depth of the darkness
Grief calls to grief, and they falter, afraid-
Why should they sacrifice all for these strangers?
Then new compassion sends them on to aid.
Dancer in Shadows, she weeps as she dances,
Dancing unmaking the shadow-born bands.
Sunsinger now through tears gives up his power-
Sings back the magic to Windrider's hands.
Spent now, the twain fall unseen into shadow
Gifted to strangers all that they had gained.
Darklord returns, and by fear is confounded-
Flees the avenger, Windrider unchained!
When producers make movies or TV series, they go with the most popular things. Unfortunatly, the best things are not always the most popular. :(
I think this would work better as a HBO show than network or movie theaters.
As I recall from the Arrows trilogy, they were freed by Windrider in return and were eventually Chosen. It's one of Mercedes Lackey's untold stories - she's always said she would prefer them to remain a legend, although it wouldn't surprise me if she changes her mind about that at some point.
And, considering she's now writing a trilogy about the founding (first book is out, good read), we might just get something on these events.

Thank you for sharing this. I read these books in high school and taught myself to sing them from the cassette. I actually met my husband through Queen’s Own. Misty’s worlds are amazing. I haven’t read the Herald-Mage books since college and I still remember most of it.
And I my fiancee. We even ended up in one of the books together(if not together IN the book).

@AnimeJanice According to Misty (last I heard anyway), she has had more than a couple of offers, but she declines because she's afraid the "mind speak" and similar fantasy elements will not come across on screen very well, maybe going so far as to appear silly or ridiculous. While I agree with her on that, I'd still love to see it anyway. ;)
So much emotion in this song, It makes me fell so not-in-this-world :) I've always wondered of traveling in time to medieval, going to a tavern and listen to some bard singing of knights, heroes and ladies ;)

I think the four songs on Sunsinger and Shadowdancer tell the story pretty well. Meetings, Sun and Shadow, Windrider Unchained. There is a song that comes before that tells how and why they were cursed. I forget the name. I would like more detail on Windrider though. LOVE this music

I have seen most of it on DeviantArt (check it out, some of the artist are absolutely amazing!) but a lot of the artists can probably be found on livejournal, too.
I really wish Misty would do the founding of Valdemar! Maybe two books about Baron/King Valdemar and the last one about Darshea and what happens to them to get captured!
except that Darshey was not Valdemar's son.
Baron (king) Valdemar's son and heir was named Restil and chosen by Steladar.
Darshey, Windrider and the cursed lovers came a bit later.
Alex O'Kerry There's a couple of books of stories from Valdemar, don't remember the names, but it's edited by Mercedes Lackey, and I'll post the titles next chance I get.
Alex O'Kerry Mercedes Lackey wrote (not edited) the books about Valdemar. The first one was 'Arrows of the Queen', but there are several series, covering most of the history of Valdemar. The Collegium Chronicles are my favourites, so far. Even though it isn't the first series, it's a good place to start.
She also edited several compendiums of short stories set in the universe.

The Heralds of Valdemar would be a GREAT TV series I agree....the Cable Channels most likely to create one would be Hallmark, We, or Logo......

Tyro Kathar Well that isn't strictly true. For all intents and purposes they ARE horses, physically at least. They just have more bells and whistles too. Put simply of course I don't feel like going into a complex lecture on the subject
windrider unchained is my favorite, and I want to write my own version, modernizing it slightly and really making it about the story, musically. the words would of course stay the same. unfortunately idk where to go to get permission to do so =(
do it first, ask permission after you make it (before posting perhaps). But you should be able to figure out who you need permission from by contacting people... start by looking up the studio/publisher/etc that published the original version. You could probably google who owns it now

Hi! I'm so glad new people are still interested in starting this awesome series. The author is Mercedes Lackey, and while the overarching chronicle has no title, it's usually refered to as the Valdemar chronicles. It's interconnecting span of book series taking place in the same fantasy world. The first book is called Arrows of the Queen. It should be pretty easy to find a list of all the books in reading order online. Just know that if you start reading these, you won't be reading anything else for a while because there are A LOT of these books :)
Also, this song as well as the other Valdemar songs were written by the author of the books, so that's pretty cool.

I need to track down these CDs, least expensive one was like, $65, which is a little beyond my budget for a CD. :'(
definitely. it would have to be a T.V. series though... a movie would shoot all the subleties to hell simply because they wouldn't have the time to do all the subtle plot twists even in a 6 hr movie... lol

The story itself only exists as the series of songs. MIsty says she won't write the story because it suits being a song better

@ARP7777777 I can't talk about Jordan and Lackey, but I read Martin and I concur that he's by far superior to Goodkind, even though I wouldn't give much about some rater on the internet. There are levels of good and bad.

They would never make the movie or show well enough. Look at what they did to Goodkind's stuff, or Beastmaster. Ugh. There are many books I sometimes think "I would LOVE that to be a movie".... then Dungeons and Dragons or some such garbage comes on. lol
