This is from a book called Werehunter. It is a bunch of short stories by Mercedes Lackey. The story is also called Werehunter and it is set in Andre Norton's universe of Witch World. The short story was originally published in "Friends of the Witch World" anthology.
after only a few refrains, I recognized the story this song was written for. One of my favorites set in Andre Norton's Witch World novels. So well done!~ I love it :)
The book is from the older song. Mercedes, writer now, filker before. Lacky/Fish songs were highly regarded, and many still wish that they had not broken up as a creatuve team,
The short story 'Warehunter' appeared in a collection of stories I read years ago. It is set in Andre Norton's 'Witch World' series. I found this video by chance, like I did the story, and love 'em both. If you have never encountered Witch World, or Andre Norton's other works, I suggest you do so. Many an hour of my growing years were spent reading her Mary Alice Norton's stories... hours I look back upon with fond memories.
Two small corrections, in verse 8, line 3 "To eye the side..." should be "To *either* side..." In verse 10, line 2, "His body blurs like soften clay" should be "...*softened* clay"
The first FILK song that I ever heard was 'The Running Song' based on an event in Anne McCaffrey's book 'Dragon Song'. It prompted me to search for more filk music. This song was on the first cassette tape that I bought. the next cassette that I bought was the one which included this song... which is now destroyed by baby's fingers. But I still have YT to listen to the music. Thanks for sharing.
Nidra Blades Dottir I don't think that actually qualifies as filk. It appears in the text of the novel. At least if it does qualify so do things like the song for Boromir that aren't usually placed under the label.
It was introduced to me as filk when I bought the cassette. And I have heard it performed at Filk Gathers. Also it was my understanding that Filk covered anything under sci-fi, fantasy. I believe that songs in the Tolkien Realm would be included in that, too.
You know you can download the song right off TH-cam right? Just look free youtube downloader, download the app the start downloading all your videos off TH-cam.
Oh, my, I seem to be mistaken. The story is Warehunter by Mercedes Lackey, set in Andre Norton's Witch World and it's Gates, inhabited by the Were Races, humans, and others.
that one us called "Threes" sung by Leslie Fish if I recall correctly. And it continues on about a troop of guardsmen and a lady and her gold and a bandit attack ect ect
@TerraRose21 seems like medieval to me. even though, in medieval times, they never used instruments and voice together... was mercedes lackey trying to get this effect?
Werehunters. Its one of her short stories. But in this case, its the other way around, and the story is based off this song. Other replies have more info, so take a look with them.
HalfTangible Mercedes Lackey is the author who wrote the lyrics, it became a short story called Werehunter; the singer is Heather Alexander, now Alexander James Adams, and music performed by Leslie Fish
I don't know that any of the cassettes or discs can be found now. But you can copy most of the music and some of the videos with TH-camListen.com (maybe ListenYoutTube?) Or VideoGrabby, ClipGet, and any number of other FREE video downloaders. Just don't sell them or share them. I have most of the old cassettes and some cds, so I have the music, but I enjoy the videos that fans attach to the music.
I'm actually not certain. Most of them are, and all of them are from same artist except the picture at 2:00. I haven't read it myself and only collected the images from minitokyo a long time ago.
Apologies, but as much as I like the Valdemar/hHeralds/et al novels, I guess that I'm just too old to understand Japanese cartooning. I guess that the entire genre -- from Animie through Hentei to Mangle (and whatever other subcategories there might be) remind me too much of a certain genre of prints of big eyed kids found in inexpensive motels back before the rise of the Big Chain Motel chains.

Thank you
I just finished the story Werehunter, by Mercedes Lackey. I'm glad that I finally know the story behind this song.
Actually, the song behind the story, as it were. :) The story is based on this song, rather than the reverse.
In my new D&D headcanon, wereleopards have this as a mating ritual.
I've been searching for this song for several years now and I forgot how much I really loved it
Just here to remind you

this song makes me calm
@oongi The Album this is from "Magic, Moondust & Melancholy" is from 1989.

I look forward to hearing that.
Delicious. I have a cassette with a different rendition of this song. I may like this one better. I definitely like the slideshow.

This always reminds me of Balzac's *_Passion in the desert_*
heather once again thank her i wish i could have seen you in person
What do you mean could have? You still can! He tours as Alexander James Adams since 2006.
thanks for the info on this song. I was wondering where it was from. I goes well with another fav author's series.

A great description I recently read is that filk is folk for imaginary worlds.
I wish they had the songs on itunes.

I love this song but I was led to believe that it was 'Werehunter' by Heather Dale x.x It took me so long to find it
This song has been referenced in several works by S.M. Stirling as well, it was actually that which prompted me to track down this song
Its in "Marching Through Georgia", by Stirling.
Some of these pictures are questionable but I’m enjoying the music
does anyone know what pics were used? it looks like there was little red riding hood in there. so cute! the song too.

+Mary Rust
Sad? How so?
I thought it a happy ending they are a couple that are werebeasts
Waffles of the world, unite!
Feia is just on the other side of the track I've been trying to find an her since I heard her call. She is all I care for.
If you like this; listen to The witch of the westmorlands by Stan Rogers

Like the song. Always felt it should go a bit faster, to mirror the chase.
You can read the book at the Baen free library. Just Google it.
An amazing song.... but do you know what Mercedes Lackey book this song is inspired by?
I wrote a novel based entirely around this song, and I hadn't realized it.
what is that one song that goes "deep into the stony hills, miles from keep or hold...."?
that one us called "Threes" sung by Leslie Fish if I recall correctly. And it continues on about a troop of guardsmen and a lady and her gold and a bandit attack ect ect
I think you may be referring to the Dwarves Song from the Bilbo Baggins story. The Dwarves singing about their lost mountain kingdom.
Hope you found it okay
@TerraRose21 seems like medieval to me. even though, in medieval times, they never used instruments and voice together...
was mercedes lackey trying to get this effect?
Oh my gosh- what series was this song base off? I've got the Hearlds harpers and havoc- and that triliogy; but whats this one, please tell me!

th-cam.com/video/8tlOztKm2ws/w-d-xo.html here is the 1989 magic moon dust and melancholy album this song is off
Is not this music nincorrectly attributed? From the large amount of time I've spent recently, credit is always given to Heather Alexander
Best,
Doc
i THINK that Mercedes Lackey is the band for this song, and Heather Alexander is the lead singer for it? =/
HalfTangible Mercedes Lackey is the author who wrote the lyrics, it became a short story called Werehunter; the singer is Heather Alexander, now Alexander James Adams, and music performed by Leslie Fish
its from Grimms tales a manga
pics look like an insane red riding hood
What could thebname of this manga be?
It's called Grimms' Manga
It's "From either side/Nowhere to hide/It's time to fight or die". Not "eye to eye".
Can someone tell me where I can find this song?

How old is this song?
*1989* My recollection was way off! I've edited this after I did some actual research.
th-cam.com/video/8tlOztKm2ws/w-d-xo.html
Are all the pics from grimms manga?
I'm actually not certain. Most of them are, and all of them are from same artist except the picture at 2:00. I haven't read it myself and only collected the images from minitokyo a long time ago.
are they both leopards or is it just him?
Yes
Both leperdess as used to refer to her
Jim Kirk - I wouldn't list hentai with anime and manga. Hentai is pornography, sort of. I don't read/watch it, so I can't really explain well.
Why anime? It doesn't do this song justice at all.
verry old
Thank you. I'll gladly be the coyote till the stars burn out if I can run with her one more time.
