Bill Roper is the singer, I know this because "The Grim Roper" by him is my favorite album, and to top it off, he has a very recognizable voice. (Edit: making what I was saying clearer.)
LyricsEdit A child, a child of my heart though never of my name Who shares my Gift, whose eyes though young are mine the very same Who shares my every thought whose skillful hands I taught so well Now hear the hardest lesson I shall ever have to tell Young healer I have taught you all I know of wounds and pain Of illnesses and of the herbs of blessing and of bane Of all the usage of your gift all that I could impart And how you learned young healer put rejoicing to my heart But there is yet one lessoning I cannot give to you For you must find your own way there judge what is sound and true This lesson is the cruelest ever healer had to teach It is which you must do when there are those you cannot reach However great your gift there will be times when you will fail There will be those you cannot help, your skill cannot prevail When you fight Death and loose to him or what may yet be worse You win to find the wreak he left regards you with a curse Worst of all and harder still the times when its a friend Who looks to you to bring him peace and make his torment end What will you do young healer when there's nothing you can do I can give only counsel for the rest is up to you This only will I counsel you that if you build a shell Of armor close about you then you close yourself in Hell And if your heart should harden then your gift will fade and die And all that you have lived and learned will then become a lie As you must, I have faced the fear, the pain in dying eyes Sometimes I have told the truth and sometimes gentle lies As you will, I have faced the times my skill brings no redress And wondered if my gift was truly meant to curse or bless My child your healing hands are guided by your healing heart And that is all the wisdom all my learning can impart You take this pain upon you as you challenge life unknown And there can be no answer here but one, and that's your own.
For anyone who's asking, the first pic is from Mercedes Lackey's Arrows of the Queen. It's the first book in a trilogy which continues with Arrow's Flight and Arrow's Fall. The other images look like Valdemar fan art.
Oh yes for sure ^^ I remember years back when I heard it for the first time and throughout the song I sat and nodded like "yes... uh-huh, yes, that's true... yep... that's also true" /Red cross medic and RN
I am Med student, i'll be sure to come back to this comment when (or if) i finish the school. But for now it is just a pleasant song that reminds me of our oath.
@madock345 Talia's gift was empathy which definatly helped with the mind, but it could also be used by a healer to help them heal bodies. Example, when she was on her first mission, the one she did with Kris, and they came across the plague swept town, she helped the healers get the worst cases healed. Kris' gifts were all wrong for that but hers was right.
@Xelos9 filk... but filk is a dirty word so far as some are considered, so dinna dare speak it too loudly. (Insert creepy music and evil laughter) On a more serious note, filk is folk... for a world that just happens to be imaginary
I can only say two things. First the song is greath. And the second is more people have to hear these songs. If you agree share whit people who are in for these.
@ARP7777777 Well i mean that those people who like this kind of music. Im not sure as grim death on what category is this. Folk or the other what i don't remmeber right now. (Song from a book or novel.)
Why do you view death as your enemy? Of all the gifts to humanity this is the greatest, we die and are renewed. Yes the ego fades, memories fade, but traits remain and are passed on. Imagine the hell this world would be, if death was not a thing. The terminally ill forever in pain, the crippled with no succor. starvation, over population, a desert where all that exists is the tormented masses of humanity, that cannot die. No children ,no laughter no music ,nothing new under the sun . Only eternal torment. Death is a blessing. Stop fearing the inevitable.
Yes, but as a healer, you naturally are fighting to keep people alive. Death is not the enemy, but to resist it is natural. There will come a time when we will all die. There will come a time when death will be a welcome friend. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still aim to live.
A curse to test our triad mind the lessons to be learned to regain your memory and gifts just to be tested again so way may see what we created once upon a time friend.... To live just to prove to yourself everything you seen and heard and understood is not a lie

LyricsEdit
A child, a child of my heart though never of my name
Who shares my Gift, whose eyes though young are mine the very same
Who shares my every thought whose skillful hands I taught so well
Now hear the hardest lesson I shall ever have to tell
Young healer I have taught you all I know of wounds and pain
Of illnesses and of the herbs of blessing and of bane
Of all the usage of your gift all that I could impart
And how you learned young healer put rejoicing to my heart
But there is yet one lessoning I cannot give to you
For you must find your own way there judge what is sound and true
This lesson is the cruelest ever healer had to teach
It is which you must do when there are those you cannot reach
However great your gift there will be times when you will fail
There will be those you cannot help, your skill cannot prevail
When you fight Death and loose to him or what may yet be worse
You win to find the wreak he left regards you with a curse
Worst of all and harder still the times when its a friend
Who looks to you to bring him peace and make his torment end
What will you do young healer when there's nothing you can do
I can give only counsel for the rest is up to you
This only will I counsel you that if you build a shell
Of armor close about you then you close yourself in Hell
And if your heart should harden then your gift will fade and die
And all that you have lived and learned will then become a lie
As you must, I have faced the fear, the pain in dying eyes
Sometimes I have told the truth and sometimes gentle lies
As you will, I have faced the times my skill brings no redress
And wondered if my gift was truly meant to curse or bless
My child your healing hands are guided by your healing heart
And that is all the wisdom all my learning can impart
You take this pain upon you as you challenge life unknown
And there can be no answer here but one, and that's your own.
No... There is a way I can help Feia. I'll tear this while universe apart. You want the worst, you will get it. I don't lose to death
I'll take the curse, let them be free.
So that's what this is... Let them be free then.
I'll accept it if they are happy....
My life for theirs.

J. Adams I think the second might be Lir from Irish mythology
"And wondered if my gift was truly meant to curse or bless..."
How many of us have wondered that about any of our gifts?
Gentle lies can sometimes carry a greater truth.
I'd be interested to hear the opinion of doctors/surgeons on this song... I feel like a lot of them would totally find it relatable...
Oh yes for sure ^^ I remember years back when I heard it for the first time and throughout the song I sat and nodded like "yes... uh-huh, yes, that's true... yep... that's also true"

Hope it was alright to answer even though I'm not a doctor or surgeon ^^
@@LARPfan It's fine lol. No one else seemed to be responding to it. xD

Lyrics: Mercedes Lackey Music: Bill Roper (Devan: Arrow's Fall)
the healer you were looking for is Devan
I think they mean share with people who would likewise appreciate these.
It is Devan singing it. When he is teaching talia how to heal.;.
@Xelos9

On a more serious note, filk is folk... for a world that just happens to be imaginary
That's the best description of filk I've ever seen, thank you.
2:17 The Picture is from the cover of a book called "Elyssa's Quest" (a trilogy) I'd recommend it.

to many times i have wondered that .. but we would not be given then if we could not control and use them fully
yes i know that all 2 well ... more so when ppl dont know the truth about whom or what we are .... yes my gifts are a double ended sword
This almost sounds like something Devan would sing.
@evilparrot21 I thought Talia could only ever heal minds not bodies.
from Arrow's Fall

Humans are survivors, born meddlers, we seek to make whole what is broken, almost by instinct.
A curse to test our triad mind the lessons to be learned to regain your memory and gifts just to be tested again so way may see what we created once upon a time friend.... To live just to prove to yourself everything you seen and heard and understood is not a lie
I like the lyrics, but the way it is sung seems strange.
Sounds like Bill Roper
I asked Bill, and he indeed confirmed that it was he who sung for this recording.
I cant help but to think this songs linked to this one th-cam.com/video/7fJ0nBQU-ME/w-d-xo.html

Not quite Joey Shoji. Maybe Moonwulf?
