As a new pass, i got took on after an assessment with a local firm doing trunking work, picking up trailers, dropping them off, bay parking and getting loaded up etc. Went out with someone for a few days to get shown the ropes and yeah, he could tell i had little experience reversing, which i had told him, i mean, i guess thats to be expected from a new pass, all been there. He said to feel free to rock up to the yard early when you're due in, hook up to a trailer and have a sod about practising reversing. Thats the kind of company you need, helped a lot, no pressure to sod about bay parking. My brother had the same, he was class 2, and they put him through his class 1, been there years, and they basically chucked him a set of keys and gave him their blessing to practice to his heart's content.
I think the test should have a lot more focus on reversing, I struggled like fuck when I was thrown into the real world, I had a couple of good drivers give me a few good tips and it got me through, that and the yard I have to park my trailer in at night is tiny, so it was a baptism of fire. The one tip that got me through was focus on the back wheels and draw imaginary lines on the floor of where you want them to go/follow.
95% of the day is going forward, which is why they focus on that. It would be an additional cost but a lot of training school offer a reversing course as well. It is helpful when you have people in the yard that are willing to put the time in and help.
I do everything you do I just do it about 10x slower, still I'm happy when I do it safely and especially on the 50% of occasions I do it with zero shunts and I just get better week by week
Reasonable job - but might be good to at least take an occasional look in the mirrors/cameras on the other side of the unit while you're bending it in - all round observation and all that...
Yeah, luckily it wasn't a test. If I remember correctly when I open the doors the shunter was stopping anything coming from that direction l, but I still should have checked.
That's luxury reversing that, I wish half of my drops had that much space 😂
Agreed!, if only every where was like this it would be much easier for everyone.
I always tell newbies swallow your pride and ask for help, don,t forget we have all been a newbie at some time
That's me right now
Thanks dude, starting in the new year and this helps a fair bit
I wish there was somewhere you could go to practice reversing after you have passed your test
Get a job shutting trailers for a supermarket. That will give you plenty of practice
Yeah until you see on BBC News "Chaos at supermarkets as deliveries delayed by 48 hours" 😂

Best thing here is it shows what you're doing with the steering wheel inside the cab, thanks from a former driving instructor in cars, new to class 1
Glad to help

Good work Ash 🍻👍🏻
You make it look too easy. I'm 2 days in, went from a car to class 1. Can't wait till I'm better at reversing.
it will just click, one reverse youll just nail and then you wont have an issue.
Short video..top man
What country is this

There are a few more on here. Check them out!
This reminds of a dream where I was driving a bus from the top deck of a bus at the back seet
ive had that dream too, and in a car, wonder wat it means
👍👍
you didnt check your left mirror until you was straight, that would be a fail on a test...
