My brother, what does he mean by you always get your bearings around the middle axle on 8:15❓️ Does he mean that you follow the middle axle until the middle axle is inside the bay or touching the bay❓️ when is it time you straighten out❓️ please explain 🙏🏽
This is very helpful. Thank you Raul for another great video. Driving C+E for 5 months. Everything became much easier when I understood 1) positioning before reversing is the key 2) oversteering won't help at all 3) don't rush and go outside if you need
Very new driver, just signed my contract today. Found it really difficult to park between 2 trailers today, but you explained it very well and I will try it tomorrow as I really want to learn how to do it. Tomorrow is my first day off to London and I am really nervous.
Great advise Raul if you cant see or hear whats going on you could end up in trouble I have been driving 50+ years and never have the radio on I like to hear what the vehicle and anything around me is doing .
I have 1 shift a week and keep trying it this way but the trick is to stop the truck in the right position ready for the reverse. Know one mentioned seeing the corner of the trailer in the left hand mirror !!! will try that next time. Great video and well explained Raul.
Thanks for the great explanation, I'm going to go for C+E license and I wanted to have a little shed of light what is to reverse an artticulated truck. Cheers
Greetings from Australia! Great video mate. I've watched a heap of American videos doing backing tutorials, most of them are just showing off their skills and not teaching. You taught very well!
Brilliant advice my friend this is a very big issue for me and one that is really not covered in the training process . yes there is a reverse manoeuvre but nothing like you are doing here. In time im sure i will have a better understanding . Thanks.
Thank you so much for all of your helpful clips from a Newby. Would you consider making a clip where we have the space to straighten up and reverse into a bay & how to setup for such. Thanks John
This is a great video. One question. At 7:36, how do you know how much room you have on the other side of the trailer? I've been trying to follow this guide for the last week and I keep having to get out and check because from the cab it looks like I won't make it when in fact I will?
It's a good thing to go out and check. But with experience, you can assess if the trailer will fit in a gap before you begin the manoeuvre. If you keep it close to the trailer that is in your field of view, you can be sure that you will not hit the one in your blind spot. but it's definitely better to go out and check
My older brother passed class one in 1975. First time. He could do nearly all his reversing with head out of the window watching the trailer wheels. He became an expert driver on crash gearbox double de clutching. Went on to do most of the repairs on his trucks over the years. It's all a learning curve nobody was born with a steering wheel or a spanner in their hand.❤😂
My brother, what does he mean by you always get your bearings around the middle axle on 8:15❓️ Does he mean that you follow the middle axle until the middle axle is inside the bay or touching the bay❓️ when is it time you straighten out❓️ please explain 🙏🏽
Awesome I failed my Shunter training last week after training for 10 hours only they told me I won't make regardless of not having any previous knowledge of trucks. Great video 👍

Nice and smooth - good to have a procedure you follow, it just makes it so much easier to start from the same consistent position wherever you can. My other pointer for new guys would always be: if you trailer angle is wrong, don't try to fix the problem moving backwards. I see newer drivers throwing the cab left and right trying to fix the angle of the trailer or jack-knifing off the road with the trailer at 90 degrees when a simple shunt forwards to straighten up would fix the problem. I would always try to do as much of my reversing in a straight line as I can and use the forward shunt to pull the trailer into line whenever I can.
Hey Raul, how you doing? Hope you are well. Just wanted to say thank you so much for this vid, just started driving artics for a job this week and was struggling with the reversing. I still struggle but not as much as i did thanks to you, keep up the great vids and hopefully see you on the road some day 👍
Thanks for the video, really helpful. I'm really fresh in artic driving and the biggest problem with reversing is to find the moment when I need to follow the trailer, I tend to overturn
You make is look so easy. But a good point when you mentioned pushing the trailer, makes sense. Ive got my 2 week practical course coming up in a few weeks, never towed anything in my life, not even a small trailer or a caravan. But i am a confident driver, so expect i will get the hang of it quickly. Got a steering wheel setup and been practising on euro truck simulator, it seems to help. 😀 But obviously, nothing like doing it in real life. Thanks for the vid and the tips.
I found it easier to reverse when I changed the term from "Chase the trailer or follow the trailer" to push the trailer around and then push the trailer in. Sometimes you need to push the trailer around then push it in a bit spin the prime mover push it around some more then spin the prime mover and push in some more. Sometimes you need to do this many times to get in. I deliver roofing sheets to residential streets in a full length tri axle trailer when in doubt reverse in my longest reverse was over a kilometer. If you reverse in and get stuck just drive out if you drive in and get stuck it means you will need to call a more experienced driver to get you out or even worse a tow truck.
Great video, good tip is to use as much room as allows also, i see quite a few new drivers coming for assessments that try to 90 degree back into a bay and inevitably dont get it … but with everything its practice i suppose
passed my class 1 yestarday and freaking out about reversing, did do the reversing test in training but could never get the trailer straight hoping to get a job soon and going to try this cheers
Hi mate, great video !! Sound advice too . Just taken & passed Heavy rigid I’m looking for all the help I can find . Thanks for sharing you experience and knowledge 👍🇦🇺
Raul, What's your best advice for turning in tight delivery yards, did York Morrisons on Saturday...so tight but managed it after jack knifing the trailer, had a chat with the staff who said its common for drivers to struggle 🤷 it was a chilled trailer with the suzies on the sliding rack...took it very steady when pulling the trailer round
Hello, thanks for the great video. Just got my class one license and my first job is as a shunter which as far as i know is easier to park with than tractor unit. I can see most of my colleagues are taking their heads out of the windown when reversing, is it a must to do it this way? If you are doing 60 shunts per day, your neck, back and shoulders will feel sore probably. Is it possible to reverse without taking my head out of the window? Also the weather, winter, rain and cold...
I'm 7 months into Class 1 career , went to a place last week i did in my tanker training and couldn't reverse for sh!t . Last week straight in first time . Practice practice practice and don't be afraid to ask for help .
Nearside reversing is harder because it's from blind side - you don't see much. Offside is from driver's side and is way easier, just like showed in this video - he reversed from offside view
Thank you for your video I wish I could reverse as well as you. I passed this August my class 1. Have you ever hit or scratched something reversing? and if you did, what is the usual process with your employer? Thanks
I scratched a car once manoeuvring into a construction site while 2 banksman were watching me. The construction company dealt with the damage as the banksman failed to see that
Great video but I love seeing manoeuvres from the outside is that possible? I am a very weird person who loves watching lorries reversing into the bays at my local supermarkets.
is that the Morrisons in Bellshill? I'm new driving the articulated truck and I have a drop there every day, always get a bay between 2 other trucks and I can fell how the other drivers judge me for my lack of experience and multiple attempts to put it at the bay 😅
I'm a newly qualified driver. Struggling to get my first job, everyone wants at least 6months experience. I have finally got a chance for an interview but didn't pass my assessment during reversing despite I did managed to reverse on the bay twice but after several manoeuvring. I hope this video will help me for the next time.
On your 2nd reverse you said when you see the trailer in your mirror. Was that the nearside mirror and would that be the trailer thats going to be on your left when you're parked? TIA
Hello Raul. I love your videos. Can I ask a question ? I am interested in class 1 and not class 2. I heard that the government relaxed the rules so people can go from the basic car licence to class 1. Is that true and do you recommend that ?
@@Raul689 I just called the hgv driving school and they said that I can go from B straight to class 1 and the class 1 licence will also include class 2 driving lessons however this will not require me to pass class 2,, just class 1.
