  • Do you need a high end gpu if you are a video editor? Or can you just settle for a low end card and save some cash? In this video I explore the differences between a GTX 950 and a GTX 1070ti to really show the similarities and differences in both Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve.

    Good video dude! Appreciate the live view of the premiere pro timelines! You're only the second person I've seen do that and that's the majority of my work time. You should add text overlays for which card, software and resolution at all times so in case someone pauses or misses you saying the name it's clear what you're talking about.

    Really great video man, I have to say that I wasn't expecting such a great presentation, subtle humor, and scientific testing methodology, and no time wasting from a ~1K sub channel. This topic was also something that really needed to be addressed. I really don't feel like I overkilled it by buying an RTX 2080 Ti for video editing now. Maybe the new Tensor and RTX cores could also provide additional functionality while working with 3D effects.

    This is HOW video editing Review should be Done. The "reviewers" all think that us video editors all do is Render.
    They never count the Process and Experience of Video editing itself which is 90% of the work and 10% Rendering.
    Video playback loads the video to your videocard during the editing proc.
    Its not all about cpu!
    While gaming Rigs are GPU heavy.
    A Video editing Rig should be a well balance between the Cpu and GPU.
    Not Just CPU heavy like all this "reviewers" are saying.
    Fast Renders are good, but thats not everything!

    When it comes to basic video editing/making especially in this era of streaming, I reckon 24 frames per second is really all you need. 4K seems unnecessary in this current age as, for example, there is no reason to watch THIS video in 4K. And many consumer-grade cameras, while capable of 1080p and above, really look like 720p scaled up. Often times the quality just isn't there to justify the resolution. Now, I suppose if you're using professional equipment and producing a work of art, high resolution is great although I'll still argue you don't need to go above 24fps as it breaks the illusion. (Fine if you're doing video gaming, documentary, or action footage though) Considering so many people are watching TH-cam on their phones and embedded in websites, I just don't see high-resolution viable from a utilitarian standpoint most of the time. And not to mention the compression!
    One of the reasons I love traditional film is you can scan the original film reel and produce high-resolution remasters. Bought a copy of Total Recall on Blu-Ray and it was just amazing to see the natural grain of the film considering I had only ever seen it on VHS as a child. Damn, film is just an all-around interesting thing. Then you go into topics like lighting, sound, and cinematography which most of TH-cam is missing.
    For editing, you can create low-rez proxies. Although I'm too lazy to make proxies :P
    Anyway, good video, dude! Thanks for actually putting in the effort with this one. (Another thing youtube is missing. Your channel isn't huge because TH-cam prefers quantity over quality and I know you're not willing to pump out garbage like most people) Cheers!

    • @bigturn1051
      @bigturn1051 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I disagree. 4k and QHD are close to replacing 1080P and why not future proof your videos? I like your argument about details tho. You must take into consideration downscaling as while 1080p monitors obviously wont display 4k, due to the higher bitrates that youtube outputs on 4k, downscaling can reduce artifacting, and yes its noticeable. Another thing is zooming in on shots however i guess your lack of details argument can apply here too.

    • @MikeHunt-wl4ye
      @MikeHunt-wl4ye 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bigturn1051 For the sake of TH-cam, I think most people will be ok at 720p. I mean, unless cinematography is your hobby or you're making more than the typical 'video blog' of a head in front of a camera. For most people, the basic smart phone is more than enough. For now at least. And given the transient nature of youtube, I"m afraid, unless you're working on a project that won't go down with youtube, the basics suffice.

    • @melodychest9020
      @melodychest9020 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeHunt-wl4ye Depends on the audience. Most tech audiences love watching hi res even on youtube and many tech channels are putting out 4K content all the time with nothing fancy going on in the content except product reviews. I checked 4K content streaming on my 1080p monitor and very fine detail does come through if one is interested in that sort of thing. I agree with @Big turn that 1080p is being challenged and may well go out of fashion sooner than we expect .. directly to 4K. 1440p is a gaming interim resolution which will also be replaced by 4K sooner than we think. Cheers, interesting topic.

    Everyone has their way of editing, but you do not need as many layers for text. Rather than use a new layer, or video track, for each line if text you are adding, just use your first “ line” save it as text1a, then edit that and add your text line name it text1b. And so on, drop it on the time line on the same track.

Way cheaper than the gaming GPUs (gamers and miners don't want these) and amazing performance in both Premiere and DaVinci Resolve. I own the m4000 and I can do anything I want with it. Hey Bud!! Great Vid. So hear me out. I have a 3800X, with 32 GB's of RAM clocked at 3600 Mhz. My boot drive is a Corsair MP510 240 GB NVMe as my OS drive, an EVO 860 500 GB as my scratch and file drive, and a 1TB HDD. Originally I had a GTX 1660 Twin Frozr Model. I prolly included the card in 3 of my videos. Now, I'm always buying cards because I flip PC's for profit and also as content for my channel. I got a 1070, and was curious if it was better then the 1660. Here's what I noticed, the GTX 1660 rendered my effects (Transitions, Lower Thirds, MOGRTS) paired with my 3800X so fast. Now the 1070 was way better in games, and game benchmarks, but when it came time to render that red line LOL it's fine but no where near as fast as my 1660. I sold the 1660 in a build. I honestly beleive the NVENC ENCODER in the touring series of cards is what made the 1660 so much faster. I'm seriously considering getting a 2070 Super, or an RTX 2060 KO or 2060 Super. Also, i'm upgrading to a Gen 4 OS drive. Prolly 1 TB, then I'm going to install Premiere on the MP510 and once again use the Evo as a scratch drive. Do you think the 2070 Super, would be a big upgrade from the 1070 when rendering effects? If you want to go check out my newest video as an example (RX 580 Video) you'll see what I mean, I use alot of effects. But I also record at 1080P because the auto focus at 4K on my Canon isn't so great. Anyway, great video, i'm sorry for it being such a rant, but i'm curious what your thoughts are on my situation. Thanks!!

    Your video looks great, but you need some acoustic reinforcement. Get a few of those foam pads and stick them on your walls. Watch a TH-cam video for placement, lay down a rug if needs be place a larger 2”x4” foam above yourself, and grab some corner wedges and place them in the corners Centers to your head level while recording videos. Depending on your room setup place a bookshelf (full of books) behind the camera. Your videos will sound 1000x better. Will cost you maybe $200. Good luck, good video. I know this is an old video by now, but I'd be interested in your opinion. So I currently edit on a Ryzen 2600x, but it's paired with a GTX 760. No, that wasn't a typo!! I've been wanting to upgrade it for some time now, it only has 2Gb VRAM, and I WAS going to pull the trigger on an RTX 2060 Super, but then held off when I heard rumours a few months back of the impending Ampere series. I'm wondering though, I see that I can currently pick up a GTX 1660Ti brand new for a very reasonable price, so I'm torn; should i make the jump to a 1660Ti, wait for clearance deals to arrive on the RTX range and possibly even snag a RTX 2070, or hold out for Ampere, which, if the rumours are anything to go by, sounds very promising indeed!! Decisions, decisions!!

    Great video, very informative. I am still unsure as to which GPU to get! From your research it is clear that is depends on the type of videos I will be editing. I'm only going to be editing in 1080p, rarely 4k (in fact never), so which GPU should I go with? What other factors do I need to take into account for building a PC which I am doing at the moment for video editing?

Zotac 2060 6GB paired with Ryzen 5 3600X OR Sapphire Pulse RX5600XT 6GB with Ryzen 5 3600X OR Zotac 2060 6GB paired with Ryzen 7 3700X ? Gonna decide to buy in the next few hours.. TIA!

      Any. I'd get a Ryzen 3600 + aftermarket cooler. The 3600x is basically is rated higher because of bundled cooler which isn't worth the extra. Any 2060 is very good. I'm saving $ and getting 1660ti or super because I believe it's enough for 4K

Like if we are making a video were we need the detail due to needing to see small text on a circuit board or writing on a document ok 4k is probly a good idea though i dk if youd NEED it. So is it really worth the expenditure.

    Instead of dropping a lot of cash on a high-end video card, why not just use the video editing software to generate a proxy file? That is what it is for so you are editing on the lower resolution file, and when you render the final product, that process is run against the raw source file.

    Hi there,
    I'm considering buying the new HP Envy 32 inch AIO for better and faster video editing. But which option would you choose?
    1) i7-9700 and GTX 1650 (I think mobile)
    2) i7-9700 and RTX 2060 (I think mobile)
    3) i7-9700 and RTX 2080 MaxQ
    The price difference is really huge as every step up means 500 Euros.
    I would like to buy a future proof machine but I don't know if spending 500-1000 more for a better GPU would be worth it (again - only preference for this PC is video editing with Premiere Pro 4k H264 and maybe H265 and most important fast flawless playback while editing)
    Thank you very much!
