    Nice job Gareth. Good to know about the little icon of a person - I've had problems with active track recognizing me on a motorcycle. Going forward I'll have it identify me first off the motorcycle and hope it will recognize me when I'm on and riding.

      @@garethbutton Not sure if the Mini 3 has this but on my first generation Mavic Pro, you can choose to have a "dynamic home point" when you set it and, as others have said, this sets your controller to be "home" rather than where it took off from. The example they give in the marketing bumpf at DJI is someone on a moving boat flying the drone off the back of the boat. Hope the Mini 3 has this and that this comment helped you find it if it's there!

    The mini 3 Pro is such a capable drone, I've been thinking along the lines of flying it out a few hundred metres along a path that you won't to cycle down use that as the start point press return to home then cycle back to the home point having First point the camera down.
    So in effect you will be racing the drone back to the home point.

    I really like your Mini 3 Pro videos. What makes this channel better than the other, more "professional" ones is I can see that you are learning how to use and pilot this drone. You are showing your mistakes and it's great way to learn. For example, I wanted learn how to land the drone on my hand and the other channels just shown it like "fly down and grab it" and I didn't know how to stop the rotors by only using one hand. Thanks to your videos I now know how to do it.

    I crashed my mini 3 pro when I was using active track. I was fiming following the grand children then they stopped and ran backwards towards me, instead of the drone just turning on the stop and following then back it went round in an arch and hit a tree. If i do it again I think I will turn off sideways movement. The drone just fell in to grass and I had to replace two props. So beware.

    • @garethbutton

    I was going to say the same thing adamwharmby4864 just said. I have not tried resetting the home point to the controller’s location and then taking off down the route. Theoretically the home point would then move with the controller so the drone would follow you, regardless if your max distance setting, until it’s battery died. Has anyone tried this?

    • @jjp95136
      @jjp95136 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just had an idea of how to test this theory. Take the drone to an open space, launch it, set the home point to the controller’s location, and move off a ways. When it wants to return home because of low battery, move a short distance further and tell it to return home. Theoretically it should come back to the controller.

    I really like your presenter styles, but the resolution of the footage is too compressed/pixelated. If you uploaded in higher quality, it’d be spot on.

    • @garethbutton
      @garethbutton  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, so it’s recorded and uploaded as 4k. However the remote controller footage is 1080p as that’s all it can output as. Phone footage and drone is 4k. When I zoom in on phone or even remote controller that will pixelate it. Is it that or is all of it pixelated?

  • @driewiel

    Active-track is great on the Mini 3. But it is ridiculous it doesn't have follow-me as well. It's more reliable, often more practical, and you often get better smoother shots. It is also safer as you can have the drone fly in front of you so you can see what it is doing without having to watch the screen. Why DJI believes they have to cripple their products by leaving out follow-me I have no idea. Probably has to do with warranty if the sensors don't work in combination with follow-me. Then again the Mini 3 Pro lacks side sensors, which to me is far more a problem. The reason why so many crash their $1000 Mini 3 Pro.
    But maybe Litchi or Maven will work with the Mini 3 Pro soon? If so try it. And you will find out follow-me is not inferior. On the contrary. A good drone should have both.

    • @garethbutton
      @garethbutton  ปีที่แล้ว

      So is follow me completely independent? Would you need to look at your controller? Does the Mavic 3 have it?

    • @driewiel
      @driewiel ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@garethbutton First you need 'compass' type follow-me. Which mean the drone will stay north south east west of you. If the drone is in front of you and you take a left turn, it will be on your right. And right turn on your left. Most drones have 'string' type and only follow from behind. Litchi and Maven have compass type so that's good.
      Then you must be able to use the sticks in follow-me mode. So you can reposition it and avoid obstacles. and also do nice fly-by's etc.
      The obstacle avoidance may not work together with GPS follow-me. I'm not sure about that. People with a DJI Air 2 and Litchi or Maven can tell you that.
      But since with compass type follow-me you can have it in view you don't need to watch the screen. You can watch the drone itself and where you are going. Much easier of course.
      It won't lose you either. You can be blocked by trees or houses or the Great Pyramid but it just looks at your (phone's or controller's) GPS location.
      But you do want the drone to have an update homepoint so you don't have to race back like a freaking idiot to where it took off if auto RTH kicks in for some reason.
      That a properly programmed GPS follow-me has littler to do with the price of the drone is shown by my €130 LYZRC L109 Pro. It does everything exactly right. I wish the camera or in particular the gimbal was better! Visit my channel.
      Again I have nothing against active-track. It has its advantages. But if you are on a bike trip you are probably going to use follow-me 8 times out of 10. It's just easier and quicker to be practical. You can ride faster too.
      The best GPS follow-me drone ever was the Fimi A3. Look up some videos on TH-cam. If I move 1mm it moves 1mm.
      The F11 does it reasonably good. But it's not as responsive or stable. The worst thing is it lacks the the update-homepoint. I was in panic couple times. Luckily it hovers at take off-point for a while before it decides to come down. But panic it still is.
      Whereas my stupid funny L109 Pro automatically disables geo-fence(distance) and RTH when using or after using follow-me.
      And it's all in the app. The L109 will fly back at low battery when not using the app on the phone!
      Again few drones these days have to follow-me feature right. Older drones with older apps were often programmed correctly. Hubsan for example.
      But the guys at DJI don't have a clue. Now Fimi and Hubsan also try to add active-track and remove GPS follow-me. What a shame. Ask people cycling the world. Active-track will never be reliable enough. It's a nice feature if you have time. Not if you are on the move. In that case you fly the drone either manually, or use follow-me.

    • @driewiel
      @driewiel ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garethbutton And no the Mavic 3 does not have follow-me. No DJI drone. Except old Phantom. Or if you can use a third party app.

    • @driewiel
      @driewiel ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@garethbutton The F8 'Monster' drone used the same RC GPS app and did everything exactly the same. It's all in the app! The drone has noting to do with it.
      There was someone in the comment section asking about a motorcycle. Well a Mini 2 (SE) with Liitchi or Maven may actually be a better drone for the job using GPS follow-me. It's much faster. And you can watch the drone in front of you or put it high and far enough to keep i away from hazards.

      @@driewiel oh ok. Sounds like they should add it as you say
