    The "sick" rollercoaster was once the tallest and steepest rollercoaster on Earth. It has to have flashing beacons at the top of 2 peaks to warn planes approaching Blackpool Airport.

    Lol. "Maybe it was the camera"
    As someone from "the North", I confirm that cameras don't come into it. Buses, trains and trams are primarily places to have an interesting chat with strangers and, secondarily, a means to get from A to B.

    The coaster you seen is actually called ‘ The big one ‘, it was built in 1994 and at the time was the tallest and fastest coaster in the world. It’s a pretty epic first drop on it 👍 over 200ft.

    The whole people speaking to you on public transport is a very northern thing! Particularly in rural northern areas. It's almost seen as rude if you don't sit and chat politely to people on busses, trams and trains up north, so basically the opposite of what people are like in the south 🤣

    Hello Evan.
    Excellent video, well presented and it seems you enjoyed visiting our happy little town.
    ( It's not a city. That mostly needs to have a charter or a Cathedral. We have neither, but that's fine. We have a Tower instead).
    Blackpool is what it is. It is not posh. It is cheap and cheerful, full of pubs, chippys and mostly, gaudy, chintzy gift shops, but like it or loathe it, it's the most popular seaside resort in the UK, by far, with (depending upon which figures you find), between 13 and 20 million visitors a year.
    Sadly, due to the opening of the M55 motorway, which was something of a two edged sword, meaning it did bring more people in, but equally meant that most people don't now need to stay over anymore to cut the long journey home and due to cheap package holidays which can admittedly offer more chance of sun, like most UK seaside resorts, it has suffered over the last fifty years and is now one of the most deprived areas in the country.
    However, it still retains it's crown of the UKs favourite resort, as you experienced, is very friendly and whilst it certainly has its "issues", ( but where doesn't?), it genuinely has some world class attractions, architecture and stories to tell.
    I myself do guided walks and talks all about the hidden history of Blackpool and The Fylde, which would probably be a good subject in the future for a series of videos, ranging from the finding of prehistoric animals, submerged villages, many ghost stories, why Blackpool was never bombed, to being the first place to invent, or install so many things that we now take for granted, like the electric streetlight, the electric street tramway, or Jaguar cars.
    Yes, it's a crazy, kitch, place that certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I love it, it seems you did too and long may it shine it's illuminations, as " the greatest free show on earth" for all to enjoy.
    Many thanks for a great vid and success to you for many more to come..

    The illuminations are pretty and I am not moaning dramatically about 'the environment' because we have to live, but I have heard that they keep the illuminations going all night, even when no one is around! I think if people go to sleep at some point, that would be the time to switch the lights off!
    Thank you for the video!

    People from the North are generally friendlier, we chat to anyone 🤣🤷‍♀️ I went to each of the firework displays as they were on every two weeks in Blackpool. It's a fun experience :) I love Blackpool. Glad you enjoyed it!

    Some mystical guy should spend time meditating in an off-season Fylde coast hotel and publish the resulting insights as The Blackpool Illuminations.

    I’m so happy you popped to Blackpool and enjoyed the evening. This December the front of the tower (where the comedy carpet is, which I’m surprised you didn’t check out) they are doing a winter wonderland. Free ice skating, Christmas markets etc. It should be lovely.

    OMG the pleasure beach is great. The big coaster is the Big Dipper, and the small one is the Pepsi max.
    Please sell me the picture you took, my dad used to work on that pier back in his teens, I’m sure he’d love it.

    • @scootbenet
      @scootbenet 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the only coaster he showed was The Big One which used to be called The Pepsi Max Big One. The big dipper is a lot shorter but being made of wood and 99 years old that's to be expected!

    I hiked up to the top of Black Combe in The Western Lake District yesterday, which by my reckoning is the northernmost point from which Blackpool Tower is visible, but despite the surprisingly clement weather in West Cumbria, when I got to the top, I couldn’t see anything south of Barrow-In-Furness for all the mist. If I’d been thinking straight, I would’ve waited until it got dark and got a picture of the tower when it was all lit up.

    I wonder how many people do the stretch between the South and North piers and think they have done the illuminations, not realising there is the section further north up to Bispham.

  • @jacktollitt3771
    @jacktollitt3771 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m from the north and people do just speak to you it’s perfectly normal here but down south if you said hello to someone they’ll give you a look and stare and say newt back.

    Ah Blackpool... family trips there as a kid. I also went to it 2 years ago in October 2019 before the world went crazy. We went to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, up the Tower, watched them make Blackpool rock and visited the piers all within like 24 hours. It was a crazy day and evening. Hope you got to explore the Pleasure Beach. That 'big one' rollercoaster used to be the tallest and fastest coaster in the world when it first opened!

    As someone who has been to Blackpool every couple of months every year of my life (19) I like the overhead illuminations in Central Blackpool but the most impressive ones I find are the large tablows between Bispham and gynn Square. Best fish and chip shop Is definitely pablos not far from pleasure Beach

    Sad to be late to seeing this video but so happy to see someone painting Blackpool in a good light. Most of us locals just here about how sh** it is, from tourists and other locals, so it was refreshing to see someone enjoy it.
    Also if you like rides, the Pleasure Beach is the most densely ride populated theme park in the UK, would definitely recommend!

    The Blackpool illuminations is so much fun I go every year but it can get very overwhelming and overcrowded this year there was a guy running through fire and knifes 😅 and the massive roller coasters is called the big one or the Pepsi Max 😁

    A premises license will allow the restaurant or venue to sell alcohol so that fish and chip shop probably sells alcohol
