- Michael J. Fox was celebrated with a standing ovation at the BAFTA Awards in London on Sunday while presenting the evening's ultimate prize for Best Film.
Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991, was aided onto the stage by an attendant who pushed him in a wheelchair.
The audience promptly stood up, and Fox followed suit, stepping out of the wheelchair and grasping the lectern for support as he announced the nominees.
Fox received his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease at 29-years-old in 1991 and publicly disclosed it in 1998.
He is best known for his roles in several iconic films, including: Back to the Future trilogy (1985, 1989, 1990), Teen Wolf, The Secret of My Success and Doc Hollywood.
He is how to make me, at 77, cry for the Joy Michael has given all of us through helping OUR Family Ties grow
stronger with his unselfish Courage. GOD BLESS YOU MICHAEL.
This man has fought this disease for a very long time. Strong man.
So have millions of others. But their lives aren't as important as his.
@@Carl-bg7er don't be that person 🤦🙄
@@kingeatking It's not about. Don't be that person. How often do folks sympathize with folks who are not in the celebrity circles and what they are going through just like J Fox? But they are just an afterthought.
@@Carl-bg7er My brother has Parkinsons and was recently put on home hospice care. His doctors have said he likely won't see next year. My brother is only 53 years old.
Michael J Fox has my eternal admiration. For nearly 12 years he has been the very public face of a terrible disease. He has let the public see his disease progress. He hasn't done it for admiration or glory. Fox could have taken his money and disappeared from public view. He didn't.
Prior to his announcement Parkinsons was thought of in the public mind as an 'old persons disease'. He's changed that and he has brought awareness to millions of people.
His life isn't any more important than anyone else's. His fame means he had opportunities to show what this disease does to a person. Something my brother certainly couldn't have done. MJF didn't make the disease about him. He doesn't claim to be a martyr. He took the disease as an opportunity to educate and try to help others.
It's a shame that you can't see he's fighting for those millions and the millions more that will be struck with this disease in the years to come.
@@Carl-bg7er I would respond to your nonsense argument but jeffscott3186 put it better then I ever could 👏👏👏
God bless Michael J Fox
That didn't happen did it.
He is a blessing to so many despite his challenges 💓
Yeah he did bless him. He blessed him with Parkinson's disease. Don't you just love the fact that your imaginary sky buddy has a plan for everyone?
Absolutely!
Yes, let us all be in awe of the imaginary god's blessings. This god dude bless Michael with Parkinson's disease. Michael must feel very blessed. I guess you can say that it is true that the imaginary one works in mysterious ways. I have heard that the mysterious one has a plan for everyone. It's too bad that his plan for Michael was to gradually turn him into a pretzel.
what an legend were soo lucky to have such an superstar still around with us...??? As an Teenager myself I was watching all of his Movies back than in the Cinema.....???? Needless to say Familie Ties got me hooked on Michael J.Fox......

Underneath all the fame n fortune hes just a man trying to hang on. :(((
An actor who marked generations with the great action-adventure classic Back to the Future. Just the other day I was watching your film with my students so they could see the genius of the work, of Michael and the entire wonderful cast. Lots of strength to you!
Lucky students! What a cool thing to share with your students!

my heart goes out to him and his family..
Love Michael!
We love you MJF
The culmination of his documentary is truly tragic, when he's asked "Are you in pain today?" and he replies 'I'm in pain every day.' Heart breaking.
Just seeing him step up from the wheelchair .... made me cry, a lot. He has been through so much, has been such an inspiration to many. He is truly a legend in every sense of the word.
Michael is a warrior, he’s a hero, he’s so loved by me all these years. What a guy❤

Respect to the man who has gone through so much and yet he makes the most of what he has got
I’m so heartbroken and tears in my eyes…but I can’t let that shadow the brilliance he brought to the big screen…keep fighting the battle MJF…
He came back from his future
In the 80’s I was at The Palomino nightclub (it was an underage night) and Michael J. Fox was sitting only a few tables away from me. He was wearing his motorcycle gear and had his helmet next to him. This was at the height of tv fame. He was so handsome and just cute as can be. It moves me to see him suffering through this disease. But I’m so grateful that his wife stayed with him and shows what real love and commitment truly is. Bless Michael. 🙏🏼✨💫🤍🏹 He is a great man.
I grew up loving Family Ties and the Back to the future trilogy. Its awsome to see him still fighting so hard. I'm so proud to call him a fellow Canadian.
Love him 🥰 My grandmother passed from Parkinson. 💜 Disabled Woman Veteran
I love him so much. One of the GREATS.
Love you Michael! So GREAT to see you again.💕💐
I would like to hear Fox’s speech at BAFTA and not just see highlights.
Mike has done so much work bringing the attention of the public to a disease that was hardly known or acknowledge. He's raised so much money to benefit millions of others in dealing with the effects of this disease. Having lived with my mother having suffered from this for decades, it's certainly been a comfort to know that someone is out there who lives this disease and does so much to help understand it. As a Canadian I'll just say that, though Mike lives in the US, he's Canadian and always will be. Best wishes for Mike, Tracy, and his family. Mike, thank you!
Everybody, really, everybody loves MJF! ❤
Who experienced the 80's and has not got a soft spot for nice guy Michael J Fox? If there is ANYONE on the planet who I hope is healed, its Michael J Fox. KNOW HOPE, Michael! You are one tough SOB.
I think he's pretty awesome! Always liked him and thought he funny! Seems to be a good and brave person!🙏👍

The Human Spirit is Great
The God that gifts that Spirit is Greater still
MJF 👏👏👏
As someone with Cerebellar ataxia, a fun mix of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. I heartily agree with your opinion of Michael J Fox.
But, fuck god. If there is a god, he's a sadistic asshole
God Bless you, Michael. You are an incredible inspiration. Love your wit and humor. Bless you and your family always. ❤️🙏🏻
Such an inspiration. His work on Curb Your Enthusiasm is pure gold.
Way to go Michael keep on going 👍 your making Canada Proud
God Bless Michael J. Fox, what a great and inspiring human being.
He's such a strong willed man to live with the disease for over 30 years and his wife is an amazingly loving woman, I'm happy she stuck by his side through it all. If you haven't seen his docu-movie 'Still; A Michael J Fox Movie' I recommend watching it.
Such an amazing man! He’s an inspiration to people everywhere 💜💜💜 And to me!
Michael and Tracey, two extremely strong people. Michael you are a legend ! ❤
He is the greatest!! Look up to him when I feel bad about anything he brings me up
He will always be a legend no matter what, love all his movies👍
33 years and still swinging. Bravo. 😀👍🏻👏
Biff would have been the perfect helper .
Michael J Fox is the coolest guy of all-time.
My dad was a drama teacher at Los Angeles high school in the 80's. He was doing auditions for an upcoming play. At the same time, Michael J Fox was signing autographs at a local record store. The entire female cast ditched the auditions to go to this event. The auditions were rescheduled.
My eyes are wet😢this is my hero!! I remember back in the 1980s every time a Michael J. Fox movie came out on VHS I raced to the video store to buy it! I can’t count how many times I’ve watched “The Secret of My Success”. I grew to love this guy on Family Matters, his character (Alex P. Keaton) was so fun to watch. He will always be the cream of the crop to me-he’s in a class by himself. We love you Mike!❤
I hate you Sky News Australia. I had already cried once watching the heartbreaking story of legendary comedian Johnny Lever on another channel named TRS. You made me cry again 😭Long live MJF. Legend. 💪🏻 We love you sir
How awesome is his wife, Tracy Pollan? 36 years she has loyally remained at his side.
What a legend. So sad to see all these great guys struggling, that we grew up watching
Seems like perfection that they bring in Doctor Who a time traveler to introduce Marty McFly who’s done so himself.
everybody loves MJF and his wife is an incredible woman.
Always loved him❤
Every time I se MJF I tremble.
Joke a side, he's a great man.
Thank you Michael j fox. I love you brother.
I sooo love and admire him,God bless!!❤😢😊
That bloke is an absolute legend and doe not look 62!
I fell in love with him the first time I saw him come on screen in Family Ties. He made me want to be a better person.
Married my husband still after knowing he had this. Love him too much.
Love that smile❤️
I’ve loved him since Day 1.
God bless Michael j fox and family.
$ 2 billon raised for Parkinson's disease. That insane number alone means he's probably been more influential than all the people in the room combined.
So sad to see him this way, but what a positive example he sets for all!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Best movies ever thank you
Very Courageous Mike. Stay with us.
My sons favorite movie back to the future
Now that's a fighter..A Hero
Wow what guts well done Michael.
To such a wonderful man, a human being, why do people have to report on harry and megan giving them any airspace 😢
I loved him as Marty!
He and amazing man and human being he is strong ♥️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻♥️👏
IT would be great if TH-cam would stop with the popup screens covering up the last part of the vid. It does this on OTHER vids, too.
As a genxer, seeing him stand, that was a great moment
Michael is an American treasure for sure
This guy has been through hell and back.
The measure of a person is the ggod they do for others and to do it with humor is even harder at times its hard being sick but its better feeling good i hope the best for You and Tracy
My grand father had polio and he was yet strangley one of the strongest people you could meet i wish they could cure that frustrates me
YES!!!
THat is the proof that he does not need a wheelchair after all.
Awesome.
We should just wish others could do the same huh?
He is an awesome human. ❤
such a good person
0:36 I know that he entered the stage on a wheelchair and received a standing ovation, I've just fuckin saw it.
I've came here for a speech.
God damnit.
I just love him 🥲🤍
Ah we love him so much. ❤️
Love you Michael
2 billion is incredible for one person to have generated from his own foundation. Though it seems to be a small number compared to how many billionaires are not doing anything to help anyone other than themselves. Michael has prolonged the productivity in the lives and the life span of those with this disease through his foundation, and they may soon even find the answer to reversing or ending it altogether. He has faced the impossible and beat the odds. A fight that would cause ordinary people to give up, he has created a new future of possibilities for others.
We all love you dude... stay strong
LEGEND
TWENTY-NINE?! Wow. Hearing that number really puts things into perspective. In most cases I'd say "he's done so much for others with his condition" (God knows he has), but to be an actor with his star on the rise and be diagnosed with Parkinson's at twenty-nine seems so cruel. It's to his credit that I doubt he'd have the same assessment. Bless him.
AMAZING MAN.
brave / lovely...thank you for being a huge part of my and EVERYBODY,S LIFE .... kiss / wink
Great courage! 🎉
Read his book. the guys a legend
This guy is a totally brave legend
Protect this man at all cost
That is not accurate. He didn’t act for an additional 29 years. He acted until 2000 and then did some rare appearances here and there, mostly in short films.
An inspirational iconic 👑❤️😘🥰😍😭💔🙏🏽❤️
Show his fucking speech!!!
WOW he got up out that wheel chair ive been there that's very hard to do it takes strength.
Я русскоговорящий.Я ничего не понял о чем он говорит.Наверное он сказал что-то хорошее.Мне очень нравится этот актер.Хочу пожелать ему здоровья
