I wholeheartedly agree my friend ~ maybe we'll get a spiritual successor one day, but truthfully, a game as ambitious as Spore needs decent financial backing 😔
One of the reasons I think some games are great are simply because they never got the chance to be milked. Their future promise is what makes them beloved
100%, a graceful end is often the best outcome these games could hope for. It’s preferable to conclude on a high note rather than suffer the fate of franchises like Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, or those from EA/Activision/etc. that are stretched thin for profit. Sometimes, it's better to be remembered fondly or even fade into obscurity than to be reduced to a shell of what made you great.
Sony doesn't fall off really every time they fumble they also do something peak, like getting beat by my bi-polar wife before she comforts me (misato copypasta)
Great analysis! There will tons of games that we wished continued to spread imagination and creativity but fall to the demands of the suits. It's such a shame and maybe one day we'll get to see this growing aspect of gaming change, hopefully.
Mate, just wanna say I clicked on this video not thinking much and wanted to know more about game deaths. Watched until the end and am shocked how small your channel is. Visuals and editing on point and those IRL camera shots make it so much more personal and fun. You’re gonna go far pal!
Sorry, I actually really disagree with the framing of this video as “games dying.” Most of these games are still fully playable, many of them on modern hardware. A game doesn’t die unless it’s online and the servers are shut down. There’s no need for endless refreshes of the same IPs year after year just to “keep the franchise alive.” Old games are still good - like you can still play and enjoy games made in 2000. Why is a game “killed” if it hasn’t been released in the last couple years?
I'm kinda yapping here honestly, but if I had to guess I would say one of the main factors is accessibility For example, no one is really out there saying that the novel Dracula by Brahm Stoker is dead, but it also happens to be the case that that particular book has been in constant circulation for well over 140 years, and not stuck in an old device to the mercy of the old author Sure, emulation is great and all, but it's not really on the public spotlight and it tends to be looked more as an "extraofficial" experience Another argument could be made about the kind of connections people make with games. Sure, you can read a book and think that it's a good story, but games, in particular those that feel great to play, may let you itching for more if only for the dopamine they can generate But those are just my two cents
Like the guy beforehand, I might just be yapping, but I’ve had an idea in my head I’ve been pondering for a while. There has been no form of media that has been so divided in experiences between generations. Books have been around since the dawn of time, I mean, hell, I just read Romeo and Juliet, that’s been around since what, 1500 something? Movies have had rerelease upon rerelease for each new formula and anything that hasn’t is on some streaming service or sketchy website. Video games? You have people who have no idea what these older games were like. There are plenty of people who have no idea what newer games were like, but they were “the best in the arcades”. Hell half the people I’ve talked to don’t even know the NES exists, let alone Contra or F-Zero or Kid Icarus or Silent Hill or… you get the picture. Never before has a media changed format so often and so fast, and this media gets left behind. I was shown plenty of Disney movies that were made before I was born, because my grandparents showed my parents when they were little and they showed me when I was little. Video games can’t have that. Very rarely have consoles had backwards compatibility and when they do it’s never a advertised feature. Nintendo has a bunch of old games that come with NSO but they’re lucky to get mentioned. People can pull out book or a Blu-Ray player or friggin Netflix, but old consoles either die or get sold. Emulation is avoided by the general public due to most people not knowing or wanting to interact with a potentially illegal act. It just strikes me as crazy, especially when people parents, on the rare occasion, do have the old console, but the kid isn’t interested, because they’re not used to it. Again, perhaps I’m yapping, but TLDR, video games have such a massive cultural divide between generations that never been seen before in any other form of media. Food for thought.
I think you oversimplified the Sonic + Mario Olympics saga, it was the Olympic committee that wanted to flirt with NFTs, The Olympic committee picks who gets to make the official game, and they choose a mobile games company who promised and under delivered
Absolute banger video as always man! I look back at some series that I wish we could have gotten more of and I'm a little sad but I suppose it's better than seeing them rushed out and their good name desecrated over some quick money. Personally I wish we could get another Red Faction and some more Ape Escape games and I guess a more recent example would have been more Evil Within as Tango just got shut down. Also I'm so glad you mentioned Billy Hatcher I thought that was a fever dream or Mandela Effect ngl. I think there's a fine line between remaking something to honor it or to bring back a franchise that people loved, and just doing it out of desperation and its hard to tell sometimes especially if it's something a lot of people hold dearly.
Welp I’m glad I’m not the only one who was tripping off of Billy's existence lol 🍄 It’s definitely hard when something with such palpable potential is lost, so I feel you on that ~ The Evil Within getting shafted was a tough pill to swallow, especially considering how much we both liked the sequel and hey It might be cope on my end, but sometimes I think the best thing for a game is a peaceful end.

We all only know about what we know. And, yes, overall you are right (for me). But, you also said that the Gravity Rush 2 was only with ps4 (true), but only the fans with Vitas could play the first game. Gravity Rush was remaked from Vita to the ps4, and I'm betting that more people played the remake. Especially since those of us who played it on the vita probably also played it on the ps4, such as myself. I think they decided well to put gr2 for the ps4. And Sony really had bad decides for the ps vita, which is sad. I love Gravity Rush and the Vita. Still to this day. Which makes me a little sad.
A bigger sin was that Gravity Rush 1 was actually meant for the PS3 but was pushed by Sony to be made for the Vita so they have something for the system

Great video! My favorite was the watch dogs series. And I never experienced a games series once loved now let die is truly just sad. I hope everyday they announce a new watch dogs but deep down I know they just let it go forever :(

This was such a great, well-made video! I know this comment may sound cliche, but you really do deserve more views and subs with how high quality your content is. Keep up the hard work man, I hope you're doing well in life!
Got this video recommended after a multi-day-long bender of remembering about LBP. Very insightful video, I fell in love with your production quality, the jokes, the reasoning in your arguments.
Comments like this are great to see because the video is about more than just its packaging ~ there’s a message I’m trying to convey, and I’m glad some people pick up on that instead of just focusing on the title or the first 30 seconds of the video. I also really appreciate the kind words; they’re encouraging, and I hope I can keep delivering with the projects to come 🤍
I really like all the bits you said about Miyamoto. Because yeahhh.... the man has some bad ideas sometimes and people really need to start telling that man no.
Xbox 360 and ps4 gave me some or the best gaming experiences of all time My biggest issue with games now (apart from the wokeness) is that companies go for style over substance. Instead of playing a game, i have to sit through so much dialogue, follow npcs and sit through cutscenes, let me play the damn game, yes your game looks amazing Most recent example of this for me, Metro Exodus
A lot of these series didn't get "killed off". They just happened, and ran their course and then the developers went on to make other games. Not every series needs unlimited sequels.
Does buying a company and shutting it down even matter? Like just start a new company with a new name and make another game. Take their money and laugh your way to the bank.
Might not be the answer you're looking for, but you could try searching for *'Premiere Pro Transition (Animation) Packs/Plugins'* ~ this is the quickest and easiest way to get your hands on some great tools, though most come with a price unfortunately ~ however, I'm sure there are free ones available as well; I've certainly found some just by searching the web. I tend to make quite a few animations 'by hand,' if you will, and I'm helped by the countless tutorials here on TH-cam that are pretty easy to follow ~ If I ever struggle with something, I just throw on a tutorial. It’s time-consuming, for sure, but it gets the job done, and recently I've been using ChatGPT a lot to help break down processes in Premiere that I struggle with, which has been really helpful. But I think, at the end of the day, good composition and planning make for a smoother viewing experience ~ I try to plot and plan the edits I want to make during the scripting phase, before I even start editing. I also spend time creating GFX and other assets beforehand, which I can then manipulate in the editor ~ a good video is really about pacing more than anything else; with or without transitions and effects, as long as it’s smooth to watch, that’s what matters the most. I hope this info helps 🤍
2:36 they NEED to make a third game with the original director. They are also trying to make a movie but im scared its gonna be live action instead of an anime styled movie
Little Big Planet 3 ruined the Little Big Planet franchise, other than that if Little Big Planet 2 stayed longer there would have been more people sticking with Little Big Planet, it wasn't late until Little Big Planet 3
Banjo was never met to continue. The original intention for Rare is to create an adventure game called Project Dream on the SNES, but it was moved to the N 64, it wasn't working for some reason. Mostly like because realistic games can be difficult to work on N 64, such as Golden Eye. So Project Dream became Banjo Kazooie. However now that the N 64 era has ended, Rare no longer needs the Banjo and Kazooie. Why, DK 64. People did not like the backtracking of that game, and while Banjo Tooie's backtracking isn't as bad. Rare might be worried that another Banjo game would suffer the same problems as DK 64 if not worse. It's sad but it's true, some of the greatest games exists because of hardware limitations. Thankfuly are Banjo like games such as Demon Turf Neon Splash, Hat in Time, and Tinykin.
Days gone and LBP have been replaced/eclipsed by TLOU and Astro Bot respectively and you've still got Ratchet N Clank as a platformer i doubt they'll return to those previous games as they've had success elsewhere. Halo 4, Infinite was good, AC Origins was fantastic
You forgot about Disney shutting down Disney Interactive Studios and canceling their Disney games. And criterion games for ending the Burnout gaming series. Not to long ago, we got Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Remake. And a few days ago we just got Epic Mickey: Rebrushed on our consoles. And you also sound like MatPat when he announced his retirement from Game Theory.
It's software. Software never dies. Just play those games if you want. I hate this cultivated "game is dead" mindset, as if you cannot play those games if you want.
Devil's advocate: It's a good thing that all these people lost their jobs as developers, because, as you can see with a lot of media coming out, they don't have the same kind of passion behind them as older media did. A great example is Left 4 Dead, vs Back 4 Blood. You have so many people in charge of things that either want to push their own message that they think is more important than an actually good game and good story, or, you have someone wanting to just ride off the success of those that came before them. Both are disgusting. Time and again, a company will use "from the creators of ____" and that's because they don't have any faith in their own product selling, unless, you know that this once great company is making this thing. It's not the same the team, it's not gonna be the same game. They raise an old franchise claiming that they're the same people that made what you loved, when in reality, they don't even really care about that franchise. They might claim they do, but they don't. The wrong developers and leaders have continually been in the wrong place and, and this massive layoff is mostly just those wrong people in charge getting flushed. Of course, more than likely, more wrong people will fill those now available roles, because both you the consumer as well as the company, don't learn their lesson... and the cycle will continue until that lesson is either taught to both the company and the consumer, or that business disappears due to screwing up too many times. Money really does talks, and money, is the new God, and though people say that boycotting doesn't do anything, that is because you are doing it indivually. When a collective does it, together, it does hurt the company. Those failures and layoffs are necessary to the health of gaming. Heck even the gaming culture that we've created and have been conditioned to, needs to die. Death is not the end, it's a whole new potential for beginning.
Yeah, I don't agree when he says Alyx doesn't count. Alyx is easily one of the best VR games ever made, and a worthwile entry in the Half Life series! I think it's the biggest technology leap in the whole series, and hope that future Half Life entries fully support VR!
Omgawd this video is amazing, and I just realized how fucking lucky we are to have steam. Steam is gamings last hope, gamestudios can now start up not having to rely on a publisher because steam will publish for you, and they're not gonna kill you. Also the way you put it of microsoft buying studios to close them, is some yea next level evil shit.
ngl this is a really good video, but id focus more on the script and on entonation and vibe of the video, its too fast and alive to talk about dead games, energy is off
Thanks for the feedback! 🫡 I like playing with the idea of tonal dissonance, that what’s drab doesn’t always need to feel that way y'know ~ but you’re right, dialling it back in some spots could make the message even stronger. Thanks for watching ~ I remember playing Burnout Paradise when I was younger and having a lot of fun online with friends, plus crash mode was peak gaming.
1:50 Assassin's Creed doesn't really die, the games are still okay or good. The focus of the series just shifted, they started making different kind of gaems People have been arguing for a long time when it died so there is no clear answer. The era from AC1 to Revelatioks was classic AC. AC Black Flag was also great After that, well they were mostly good, all of them, except Rogue or Valhalla
Tbh not only the stupid company but most of the causal players ruined gaming, buying the same COD every year makes the company greedy, or buying cringe skins and dancing like a child in fottshit

This was such a great, well-made video! I know this comment may sound cliche, but you really do deserve more views and subs with how high quality your content is. Keep up the hard work man, I hope you're doing well in life!
Wow, thank you for such a kind message, take care ❤️
Great content, subscribed.
10:46 when it comes to cyberpunk as far as I remember people where complaining and complaining that game isn’t out yet
Been waiting for another video....yet again fantastic quality!!!
More to come!
I also really appreciate the kind words; they’re encouraging, and I hope I can keep delivering with the projects to come 🤍
love the channel man I'm glad I stumbled across it!
Welcome aboard ☺️🧡
Billy Hatcher was the GOAT!!
I really like all the bits you said about Miyamoto. Because yeahhh.... the man has some bad ideas sometimes and people really need to start telling that man no.
Xbox 360 and ps4 gave me some or the best gaming experiences of all time
My biggest issue with games now (apart from the wokeness) is that companies go for style over substance. Instead of playing a game, i have to sit through so much dialogue, follow npcs and sit through cutscenes, let me play the damn game, yes your game looks amazing
Most recent example of this for me, Metro Exodus
nice Tony Hawk interlude/hommage at 05:45. 😂🛹
😂😭
I don’t know why PlayStation take the movie route with beloved niche IPs like Sly, Kat, and Jak when it’s clear we just want another game.
A lot of these series didn't get "killed off". They just happened, and ran their course and then the developers went on to make other games. Not every series needs unlimited sequels.
I wish the day motor storm can return one day
Does buying a company and shutting it down even matter? Like just start a new company with a new name and make another game. Take their money and laugh your way to the bank.
That was deep
I agree with all the points
Good stuff. Very funny.
what do u use to edit
Premiere Pro
@@removedm any tips to make animations like the ones you use in ur video they are really smooth
They are also trying to make a movie but im scared its gonna be live action instead of an anime styled movie
why is he surfing the bread skates?
Little Big Planet 3 ruined the Little Big Planet franchise, other than that if Little Big Planet 2 stayed longer there would have been more people sticking with Little Big Planet, it wasn't late until Little Big Planet 3
Little big planet 2 was my favourite PS3 game a huge chunk of my childhood gone :(
I really hope the burnout series come back
Still holding out hope for Banjo-Threeie
I want banjo sly and jak back
what an excellent thumbnail good job keep it up you’ll blow up
Thank you, I hope so💗
Anthem was not rushed, they had like 7 years to create it but only worked on it on the last year.
I like that you laminated those papers.
It's software. Software never dies. Just play those games if you want. I hate this cultivated "game is dead" mindset, as if you cannot play those games if you want.
Dead means that the franchise doesn't have "soul" anymore. Like Pokemon. These games suck now but the fans are complete dumbasses and still buy them
They’ve made loads of bomberman, it hasn’t been killed
I miss Stickrun
nice video, keep it up
I still get sad thinking about Rumbleverse
Was that High on Life music?
yup, the soundtrack for that game is underrated af ~ also all the music I used in the video is listed in the description, by the way.
Very intetesting choice to say Half-Life is dead when they released Alyx a few years ago and its heavily rumored theyre finally working on 3
Yeah, I don't agree when he says Alyx doesn't count. Alyx is easily one of the best VR games ever made, and a worthwile entry in the Half Life series! I think it's the biggest technology leap in the whole series, and hope that future Half Life entries fully support VR!
Why is bro in an office building
Good points, but its got a really narrow perspective
We'll never get a sequel to black rock shooter on psp. 😢 or get a megaman legends 3. 😢😢😢😢
How many print outs do you have?
♾️
The game industry is a perfect exemple of how capitalism undermines creativity and innovation from humanity...
Telltales walking dead 😔
ngl this is a really good video, but id focus more on the script and on entonation and vibe of the video, its too fast and alive to talk about dead games, energy is off
Thanks for the feedback! 🫡 I like playing with the idea of tonal dissonance, that what’s drab doesn’t always need to feel that way y'know ~ but you’re right, dialling it back in some spots could make the message even stronger. Always learning and finding the balance so thanks again, your insight really helps! 😊
@@removedm no worries man, ur editing is very good, look at videos like astrophobia in games or games with dying worlds, those resemble what i mean on focus more on script and tone, God bless you!
@@Krizpenguin Thanks again! You might like my Ctrl+Feel series ~ only three videos to it's name so far, but those have more of that introspective tone you're talking about. Stay blessed 🙏th-cam.com/play/PLjJD1us9E0yQkvsPOaYx0nVP32QeEgDNV.html&si=x3cuAbvw8oJmB33o
Great video. Reminded me of the Burnout series that may not get another game
Thanks for watching ~ I remember playing Burnout Paradise when I was younger and having a lot of fun online with friends, plus crash mode was peak gaming.
Didn’t talk about prey & how it was killed and replaced.
Mw3 was fun after all the updates. Still glorified dlc
I refuse to play nu-prey. It’s not fair how it uses the name.
1:50 Assassin's Creed doesn't really die, the games are still okay or good. The focus of the series just shifted, they started making different kind of gaems People have been arguing for a long time when it died so there is no clear answer.
The era from AC1 to Revelatioks was classic AC. AC Black Flag was also great
After that, well they were mostly good, all of them, except Rogue or Valhalla
Sackboy A Big Adventure is a better game than Little Big Planet. Sorry, not sorry.
Tbh not only the stupid company but most of the causal players ruined gaming, buying the same COD every year makes the company greedy, or buying cringe skins and dancing like a child in fottshit
