    Watching you two is so relaxing, takes me back to when we played outside, didn’t have cell phones (in fact some people in my small town didn’t have any phone), we had party lines and if you wanted to make a phone call you sometimes had to wait your turn. Stress levels were lower, we would swim in the river, didn’t wear seatbelts, didn’t have a helmet when riding our bikes and didn’t have to be home till the street lights came on. I just love you guys!

      Yes we sure were free kids, creating our own fun and games. and we didn't have snacks constantly. Dinner was at 5-ish and we were hungry so we weren't picky. No one walked around with a drink in their hand back then too. Our single family car had no cup holder. How did we ever survive?😄

    I did indeed see the cooking episode over on E. A. channel. Glad to see you both enjoying a picnic feast! Happy Spring, everyone- finally!! Looking forward to the next drama video, too; the last one was so funny! Perfume was very strong back then, because EVERYTHING stunk, including people! Most people did not regularly bathe. This is also where the tradition of having flowers, mostly strong-smelling lilies, at wakes and funerals came from, for obvious reasons! See you next time- Love from CT

    You must be among the wealthy to have been able to afford such a luxurious fruit, the pineapple, costing around $8,000 in our money today ; back in the 1700's! 😮 WOWSERS!
    What a very nice dinner, and thanks for sharing the chatelaines with us.
    HOW TO CUT PINEAPPLE:
    * Cut crown and bottom off.
    * Trim spines/rind off sides.
    * Cut in half lengthwise.
    * Cut halves again lengthwise.
    * Cut core out along the inside of each pineapple strip.
    ENJOY! 🙂🍍

    Washington State❤️☔

      Beautiful day...and eating outdoors was a great idea! So happy to see you two cooking and eating again. Love the drama vids too... can't wait to see what happens next in your storyline!
      Question tho...what did people do with "leftovers" back then? I know there was no refrigeration unless you were lucky enough to have a springhouse. But in general, how did one store already cooked food so as not to waste it?
      Keep the great videos coming because we LOVE ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ watching 👀 y'all!!!

    • @PurpleSurple
      @PurpleSurple 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@cheriparda976 Composting veggie and fruit scraps was common, feeding fowl leftover scraps was common, too. Onion peelings and beet peels were used to dye clothes, potato 'eyes' were used to plant for more potatoes. Oftentimes clean veggie scraps were tied up in cheesecloth and used as 'bouquets' to be boiled to make broth for soups and stews. Storing cooked foods there was pickling and canning. Jellies and jams would have bees wax poured on top of the fruit to make an airtight seal to prevent bacterial growth. Smoking and jerking meats did the same for hams and other meat. Salt pork was a staple used anywhere from home to traveling to camping with no refrigeration needed. A cold storage/root cellar would store perishables. Snow would be collected in winter and packed tightly into thick walls in an underground cellar and foods were kept safely there like how a refrigerator works. Otherwise you ate the prepared food within a day or so. Hope that helped.

    Pineapples could definitely be grown in a glasshouse, and possibly in a hot bed (basically a box of fresh manure with emits a lot of heat as it rots down). In the Uk, I believe having pineapples from your own greenhouse in Victorian times was a favourite way of showing off among the wealthy. And I could be wrong, but aren't pineapples a traditional symbol of hospitality?

    Fun fact - June weddings were popularized during the middle ages because people only bathed once a year , in May , when it was warm enough to bathe outside. Marrying in early - mid June meant they still smelled pretty good! The brides boquet was usually made of a mixture of flowers and herbs and was used to , again, mask the smell of body odour.

They would ripen in late July or early August. Everyone should have the pleasure of picking a sun ripened pineapple, and eating it while it is still warm! The smell and taste are AMAZING!

    I'm Canadian, but I have a British background. We mash either turnips and carrots or parsnips and carrots together. The two vegetables are cooked separately and then mashed like mashed potatoes. Just add salt and pepper. We serve these as a side dish for Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas dinners going back at least four generations. My sister-in-law in New Zealand also cooks parsnips and carrots mashed together.

They would eat it for a mid-day meal. The rolls would be warmed over the fire just before breakfast or lunch.

      it’s probably the very DRY winter and early spring air.
      it’s torture to the eyes and skin!
      plus the fire dries out the air even more! 😳😬😬😬

Are we going to die? “RPP” a.k.a. Rotten Poisoned Pineapple! Ron you taste it first! I adore watching the two of you guys, l’m subscribed to both of your channels.

    I love watching your videos. They make me think of how my great great grand parents might have lived and thrived. The top and peels from the pineapple will be good for composting.

    I have a request. Could you link the appropriate matching Early American videos in the Chew and Chat descriptions? I have searched for the cooking video that goes with this video and can't find it in the Early American channel. I would have liked watch the making before the eating.
    Thanks. Love both channels immensely!!!

    I think your milk and butter mixture was to hot when you added it. or maybe the mix needed some backing soda. other wise yeast rolls should be fluffier and fuller. either way I am off to make my own now. lol

    Justine, I made an apple, pear and apricot compote to use up some apples and pears I had that were getting a little "aged" and some of my dried apricots. I seasoned it with butter, brandy and sugar. Excellent with fresh sourdough bread.
    Take your pineapple core and soak it a bottle of white rum. Let it sit in the cupboard a few months before you enjoy your rum.

    I like to put the core in a glass of iced tea to sweeten the tea. So good!
