- I've driven this thing like a Dodge Viper, a Toyota Camry, and A Nissan Z. In today's video I talk about how the car feels post-honeymoon period with more than 2,000 miles on the clock now. From the weird interior buttons to the INSANE stock power curve, we're jumping in to the car like you've never seen :)
I could seriously go for some subs & follow right about meow, so see the links below:

Next time you see this car it'll be MOOODDDDIFFFFIEEDDDD. Go take a look at the community post to see what wheels we went with and lmk what I should do with this yellow skittle next :)
Sway bars and good links should help with the floating around corners, same with 370 and g37
Sometimes simple styling is a winner over time. See the S2000. Timeless. That'll hold true for this one. Sure beats a bunch of unnecessary creases and giant fake air vents.
That's true, I think with more design elements you risk it losing style; but there are examples where that's not the case; right? 512TR, 911, AMG Gt
@@AlexMartini. For sure. It's not a blanket rule but certainly helps.
BTW, pertaining to your s2k build. If you have not reached out to RAINH8R on s2ki, you should. He is local in SE Wisconsin and one of the top S2k guys out there. Has even designed some parts for K Series swaps.
right. when the right side skirt and front lip comes out.... its too bad they made the suspension so soft in such a sporty vehicle
Cap!!! That's the most overrated car ever, as I used to call it, the fastest looking slow car. It's not that good & never was, Jesus.
The 911 design has been steadily updated for decades tho, porsche have been able to update the design steadily, intentionally and beautifully so they know how to make that shape timelessly beautiful by now.@@AlexMartini.
I know drift is probably the way lost people will build this but I would love to see a simple track build. Something most people can actually and want to replicate.
Drifting has a cool factor, but I never got the same adrenaline rush vs. tracking any of my cars.
I have a new Z aswell and my whole goal is to make it into a street/daily beast and its perfect for that. I think the manual which I have is amazing for just driving wherever I want/however I want
Dude I loved the breakdown of the review and modifications. The editing was super nice too.
I like how it looks a little bit more like the older Zs than the last gens
Thats the cool thing about using the 370z platform it also looks like a 370z. Combined with all the previous generation details it is literally a combination of the Z's entire history. But everyone wants to complain that its an old/outdated platform instead Lol.
It looks more like a 370z more than any old Z
@@mperformance3502Take a look at a 240z
The headlights on the new Z are based on those of the 240z
Great video (per the usual) and really looking forward to seeing some tasteful mods on this car.
Best mods that completely changed my Nissan Z was Silvers coilovers, Pride Auto full downpipes and Racebox Tune. Best bang for your buck first 3 mods.
Highly recommended 👏🏽
Glad to see you here 💯💯💯
@@2seep 🫡🫡 where ever Z’s go I go. Plus, @alexmartini. is a vibe 😏
Everything in your description of the car matches how I feel about my 370. The love/hate relationship with the interior. The way the weight shifts to the rear when you put the pedal down. The aggressive torque curve. If I had to describe the power feel, its like its boring boring boring right up until 4k rpm, then immediately switches to scary. I need a new bumper. Oh and the floaty front end. I had a Z33 before this, and it wasn't like that. It felt much more planted, with a lot smoother torque curve. If I had written a review for my 370 the week I'd gotten it, it would have sounded a LOT like this review of the NEW Z. That being said, I love my 370. And if all they did was swap out the VQ for the Infiniti TT, then thats fine with me. The stance boys and boy racers can't agree on what kind of suspension they want from the car stock, so they would all end up swapping it out anyway. All in all, it sounds like a fantastic base to build on.
That last sentence hits the nail on the head. Nissan know their customers for this car
Agreed 100%. Even back in the R32-34 days, Nissan built amazing chassis and left the final touches to be done by the customer. They still produced some amazing factory GT-Rs though (and let's not forget the JDM GOAT Z-Tune) and fixed all the cooling and oiling problems with the early RBs. They were fine from the factory, but once they got pushed oiling became a problem. My thing with the new Z would be to buy a base model, and then spend the difference to the performance trim in SPL Parts suspension and AMS power upgrades. Then throw in a Wavetrac LSD, for less than the price of a Zupra I have the ultimate JDM sports car. (GT-R and NSX are JDM supercars in my book!).
@anydaynow01 I understand the temptation to add power, but I wouldn't. When I still had an automatic 350, I wanted a little more power. Then I sold it and got my manual 370, knowing it had a little more power, but not expecting to feel the difference. I feel the difference. Maybe it's extenuated by the manual trans, and my ability to keep it in the power band, but however tempted I might be to add power to the 370, it's totally unnecessary. I can only use 60-70 % of the available power safely. The one time I gave it ALL the beans, I lost control and almost hit the median. It's got plenty of power for a sportscar. Any more, and it's a straight-up race car. And that's talking about the 370. The New Z (which really needs a better name than "the new z" or "zr34") is faster in a straight line and wobblier in the corners than the 370. So, I'd be even more wary of high RPMs and WOT. I'm with you on the suspension, though. I hated the look of the New Z at first. It's grown on me for the most part, but those headlights are hideous and are NOT going to age well. How car-guys feel today about the fried egg Porche headlights, or the catfish camaro headlights, is how guys will feel about the new Z headlights in 10 years. If I got a new Z, I'd have to swap the headlights for Nissan Ariya headlights with an led drl strip to mimic the shape of the 370z lights, and swap the bumper for a 350 nismo bumper. I've already got the photoshop car thrown together, looking sick. Obviously, it would be a little trickier to pull off irl than in photoshop, but that's what body shops are for. The Ariya headlights look modern. The Z headlights look retro. Modern will always look newer (better) than retro. Retro is cool for about 10 minutes, and then it just looks old and or lazy. Thats not a critique of 240's or 280's. They aren't retro. They're vintage. Huge difference.
2:19 I thought you were describing the m4 at first.. craziest opinion on the side profile I’ve heard to date. The curves of the z is what makes it not boring imo..
Same, I don't understand how someone can find the side profile of that M4 more interesting than the side profile of the Z. For me the M4 side profile is as generic and boring as it gets.
I love watching yours drift, yea you have Chris Forsburgs, but thats beside the point... it looks pretty cool and I say the interior is soo nice!
4 months and 1k miles. Gotta get them up ⬆️
The car really is a head turner for the general population. I've gotten so many questions and complements from random people at Culvers or the grocery store probably more so than I have at any cars and coffee. The yellow really is a love it or hate it thing but personally I love it.
I'm excited to see what you go with for tires as the stock tires are my biggest complaint with the new Z thus far. The rear seems to kick out more than it should even with traction control on and I'd love to see how it handles with a bit more grip.
Yeah I agree owning the proto for few months now, need new tires. But want to get the most out of the stock tires before I change them. Thinking just going with Pilot 4s since can't go wrong with those.
@@PikaQPika That is what I am leaning towards as well. I figure I'd wait to get most of the life out of the stock tires first as well as I'm buying a truck to replace my daily as well so I'd rather not spend even more money. The stock tires are fine for now, but I'll still complain about them haha
I still have only seen 1 new z yet
1000000% agree on the floaty front end. Can't wait to get the suspension and tires on mine too
Also get z1 sway bars for the z, it removes the Floatiness.
This guy is the reason I bought my 370z 2 years ago. Happy to see him return to z’s
I'm surprised you didn't mention the way it shifts. I'm not sure if it's rev hang or what, but you have to shift so slowly with the Z to keep it happy and smooth. Hopefully in your build you experiment to improve that.
Where did you take it for the first oil change for break in ? Trying to figure out if I want to to take it to Nissan or not for my 23 Z
I'm not gonna lie... this is one of my new favorite cars of this generation. Supra didn't do it for me. The 86 looks funky to me, and the C8 is awesome, but the new Z just has it.
Hopefully, new wheels, tires, and suspension will fix the floaty feeling with the steering.
I can't speak to the performance or the interior because I haven't been in one yet but I'll put in my two cents in on the styling. I like the styling except for two things. I feel like they should have put an upsweep on the corners of the grille so it isn't just a big black rectangle censoring the radiator. I also think they should have gone with round or oval headlights reminiscent of the beautiful 280Z. I heard you say you love the headlights and I would like to know what about that design does it for you. Overall I think it is good and I like the back very much. The profile isn't the most exciting but I think they did good to keep it simple and clean.
I think it looks Amazing!
I dont reckon the enthusiasts hate the car, they just hate that they can't get it at the moment 😂
I like the sort of retro design of this machine 👌
I love my Nissan z 🥰 , looks are timeless imo
I wish there was a way to make the grill all black like somehow removing the grey section. Is that possible?
Alex you need to disable the YAW sensor at the very least and also more than likely have to pull ur stop lamp fuse aswell if you want to be able to actually drift it... full mod can be done with less than $20 in parts .. a rocker switch some wire and crimp connectors
I agree with your assessment, you can see how much the car squats but I think nissan went for comfortable and fun because they knew enthusiasts would go with coilovers anyways which would bring the suspension in line with the powertrain and power delivery which you currently feel is a little too much but i think will be more manageable with better suspension. As for the interior that's harder to improve for the customer which is why i think nissan picked the suspension as the sacrifice essentially at least for enthusiasts and track goers
man all the colors of this car looks awesome, the yellow and black stand out the most though.
Here's an interesting question:
With the price and power levels would it be a competitor to something like a lightly used C6 or C7 corvette?
Since you’re In Wisconsin, AMS in Chicago ain’t that far and they’ve been killin the game. I think they have a 500hp package for the Z
Is it better than Supra in any way? I'm confused what to build
Into 7 generations it looks like Nissan and Mr. K still believed the Z should be more dailyable. 280ZX to now the Z is tinged grand tourer cause that can get a sports car out the door for more than sports car buyers. The Nismos should have been the antidote but maybe those were conservative choices too.
Even tho I wouldn’t say the Z is the best performing sports car you can get for the money, It always looks desirable to me because it feels *approachable* . Everything is getting so serious and something that gives an air of just being fun is refreshing. Maybe its not as fun as a GR86 could be… but it’ll feel more special.
Nice!
Hopefully, the car salesman doesn’t email you after this video. 😂
Love the exterior, but I wish it drove like it did modified at this price point.
Is it worth it *IF* you get stuck on the dealer markup?
My car is around 370hp crank 350tq and it’s fast to me. Now that I’ve got flex fuel sensor installed I get to pay $2.70 for e50 blend at cenex. I’ll take more hp and less mpg for that price!! Zl1
Fuel pump and I’m full e85.
whats the best trim pkg if you dont want to mod much...?
I wounder what alex with drive in the winter comes
For a non enthusiast that want this car for daily driving (work from home no commute, only time I commute is for getting outside eat/groceries/laundry/hobbies) & road trips (mid west), do you think my needs would be good for this car?
No plans to put this on a track, race anyone, just for enjoying my life and commuting to those things a few times a week + weekends
note: upgrading from a ford fusion 2012 lol...
That's why I didn't trade my 370z I'm for the new Z. I test drove the new Z and I didn't like how grand touring it felt like , I love the sporty feeling of my 370z . I have touch screen gps and great sounds system, that's as much touring features as I need . And now z1 came out with an awesome supercharger kit that I plan on getting by December
I haven't really kept up with the Z, but I imagine there are some front bumper mods by now. I'd hope atleast 😅
The new Nismo Z looks better
I live on Long Island and see every new car out there but I haven't seen one Nissan z
Consider taking your car to Z1 Motorsports and getting it turned into a 600R once they are ready for it
The suspension springs are too weak. You need 2x stronger springs. Even NISMO has weak springs and use dampers and roll bars to compensate, causing unnecessary harshness.
Get MeisterR made in UK billet aluminum ClubSport damper kits.
I saw one yesterday, I thought i was tripping
I want you to change those two interior buttons.
"The Nissan Z is just a rebadged 370Z"
"I dont give a sh*t because I never owned one"
Amen brother. Amen.
Notif gangggg
I wanted to love the car. I seen one in person and honestly I can’t get past the looks. I just don’t think it as a wow factor to it by looking at it.
Wait wait wait. You bought it in May, it's September now... 1,000 miles?! Bro I put that many miles on my Miata within 3 DAYS after I bought it.
I wish they putmore thought into the front end. More 240z like.
Even at Msrp I think the car is too expensive. You can buy a lot of car for that amount of money. Add in the mark ups and no way I’d pay that much. Hoping to get a nismo gets a manual transmission as well.
I cant unsee Daniel Radcliffe now.
The dealership near me has 2 of them for $73,566
That's a great price for 2
idk it really looks like the fairlady z, simple. i like it.
I love mine
I wish I could see a Z let alone drive one.
Just don't stance it. And the rx7, arguably, doesn't have an big creases and man it still looks good!
$150 Hotchkis front swaybar = best money you'll spend! Do that first!
The "aggressive" lines of the bmw get boring real quick in my opinion. The rx7 is considered a timeless classic and it has almsot no body lines lol. Plus the simplicity means there is more potential for creativity in the aftermarket then just generic wheel flares and overfenders
For me the FD RX7 is boring to look at. It's a formless blob of metal and plastic. It's literally forgettable. Most cars of that era are victims of wind tunnel testing and advances in CAD design.
I've really come around to how the new Z looks, except for the front bumper. That big rectangle just looks so bad, if it were more round or trapazoidal it'd look so much better and aggressive.
That being said, I'd still prefer a 350z
luckily the nismo z smoothed over the front bumper, hopefully in the future there will be affordable aftermarket rep nismo bumpers!
Looks like Harry Potter 100% 💯
"I usually can last two to three hours" !!!
she a beauty fr
The nismo version looks better they improved on how the front bumper looks like and I like it way better then the base model
The new Z seems kinda cool and it's great that you're enjoying it. I'd personally rather pick up a FK8 type R and save $10-20k. The Z is definitely cool though.
You'd rather have a civic? Not buying that one, homie!
@@id1965 it's a better daily driver and can sit 5 people. Different priorities.
So it’s basically a c6 corvette nice
Next video should be what you are going to do to it
I get, "how do you like it?" WAY more than, "how much did you pay?"
1000 miles is 10 days for me
Single turbo swap with nitrous
Def disagree on ur take with it being compared to the f80.
It does have similar style as the 300zx. Besides the changes in wheels and the higher hood, it has a lot of the same looks really. The 350z and the 370z look awful in my opinion. Modern day TT without all the fooling around like it was 30 years ago must be nice. Except, you can hear a 300zx, the 400z, not so much
I know a good tuner! 🤨
Bruh. Should have waited for the Nismo. Nissan always does this thing where they make the interior and exterior on the base models artifically shittier. Then a couple of years down the line they can sell the car it should have been from the start, badged as Nismo, at a premium. On my 370Z it makes a world of a difference, the looks and especially the seats. My bed is not as comfy as those seats.
Suspension and wheels-wise, the Z is definitely not a driftyboi car stock, even Nismo. You'll get understeer because the rear wheels are so much wider than the fronts and yeah, it sits high-ish on pretty soft springs. The stock angle is abysmal and you can't fully disable stability control on the entire Z series without cutting into the ECU/Yaw sensor, so it will misbehave. But for track fun, Mexico runs and road trips I couldn't wish for a better car from factory.
nismo doesn't come in manual.
A91 >>>> Z34.2 cause let's be honest...
I think the m4 looks boring
Get it dynoed while it's stock
A mediocre car that you have to mod the shit out of is pretty much exactly what I expected it to be, which is why im looking for the cheaper trim, use that 10k for mods.
When he compared it with the BMW, I thought the complete opposite. The Z made the BMW look like a generic, random car for someone who doesn’t care about cars. Probably there were similar-looking cars in 2000 or 2010. (I’m not a BMW hater.)
Put in a bubble to make 3k 😂

It's way too heavy
It’s too stiff. Too loud while at cruising speeds. Severely dated interior with interior door panels straight off a 2009 370Z.
Too little too late for too much.
Don’t put bags on it, like your Ferrari
Pop tart said it’s a OK car.
I just hate the new engine. A little ass 3.0L that sounds like shit, I personally love the VQ engine and I’d probably engine swap it if I eas rich lol
Except for the steering I see all those "downsides" as upsides lol
Brah barely touched his wife during the honeymoon phase
Whoever designed that piece of trash should be ashamed of themselves
Be the first to Make the 400Z ( MID ENGINE! )
This car is trash get a Supra
I think it's fugly. Absolutely hate the front end, especially that grill. Hot garbage. The 350/370 is a thing of beauty compared to that thing.
you only hate it because it's new.
Nothing in this video made want to buy this car at all. You listed everything I thought Nissan would’ve thought of at that price point so it doesn’t need to be heavily modified. I think they missed the mark. I was waiting for this car to come out for so long and even without driving it, I lost all interest once people were allowed to review it independently. Good review Alex 👍🏼
So what car would you consider instead!?
@@smoothemusic4386 at that price point you can get a really good Mustang GT or the 2SS Camaro 1LE which is a track monster. Nissan missed their opportunity and I think the Japanese cars are now dead in the US.
How does this car compare to an Q60 @alexmartini
I hate when the aesthetics of a button just ruin it. Lol it’s just a button😂😂😂
