OMG Saffy...this review brought up so many great insights into the tech that I am 100% sure no other "Bike reviewers" have even touched on! This is amazing!
It was hard to summarise! It's a lot more complex than I made it sound! I tried to make it as easy to understand as I could! I'm sure my terminology isn't the best, but the general principles are there and the tech behind the RE bike is far greater than it's getting credit for!!!

Hi Saffy
Great review, I enjoyed your explanation of the tech for us low tech riders😂. I’ve always ridden Triumphs but really like the RE range of bikes (mainly for their simplicity) . Test rode a classic 350 and loved it, so was glad you found that non of the tech distracted you. The fact the TFT dash is round probably makes it more acceptable to my analog brain😂!
Tons of tech = tons of wiring problems etc.. No thank you I will take simplicity any day
I'm a dinosaur, been riding for a long time. I would say the best thing for you right now would be weight training. If you want to ride off road and enjoy it you need to be stronger and there's only one way to do that. Get on the weights: with more muscle on your frame your potential will expand massively and even when you fall off (as we all do, repeatedly) it won't hurt so much. It will also make you more comfortable on long rides. Men are lucky, we're naturally bigger and stronger, but if you train you can match us and even beat us - good female riders seem to have exceptional balance. Good luck.
Assume you are joking or aren’t familiar with Saffy’s background😂?
You realise she's a former weight lifter?
@@ollygibson8397 No I didn't, I saw her being blown off a stationary Honda in Norway and breaking several ribs, and then looking rather vulnerable off road on the Enfield and I was a little concerned about her prospects.
@@trailingarm63same
Look around Noraly - I bet she doesn’t do weights - she has upper body strength and a bit of bulk from riding - it’s just practice that makes you good… practice and you get better! A lovely enthusiastic review!
Quite honestly, I think the 452 Himie is the best looking of the current ADV bikes. Seen from the side, the angle of the tank and its shape and the general silhouette remind me of the first Yamaha XT500, a classic off-raod bike line. I especially like its front, that it doesen't make the same peeved-alien-insect face all others have.
It also looks way way better than the 411 to me. The 411 has its agricultural charme, but that is what it looks like: Agricultural. The 452 looks faster and sturdier when standing already.
I really lie it.
I never really thought of it as an agricultural looking bike but that's actually a perfect description for it!!!
@@SaffySprocket …and if I fix that typo in my original post andedit the "lie" to "like", I lose Sprockerella's heart! 😫
As it’s covered elsewhere, ‘sod the spec give me the tech’ review is great.
😂😂😂😂 Screaming!!! I love that! SOD THE SPEC, GIMME THE TECH! I'm stealing this!!!!
If your seat was adjustable between 805 and 825 mm, you must have had the low seat option (standard is 825 to 845), which is interesting because the availability of the low seat has so far been very limited. When I last looked, it was not a configurable option for UK- or Australian-based buyers. I'm so keen on this bike, but being somewhat vertically challenged, the low seat would be a necessity for me.
Excellent Saffron.. you've been there, done it and got the Tee shirt.. got too love ya' lass.
Stunning Bike greatly improved, as a whole it has what the 411 sadly lacked in the first place, yet here again its a ground up build by design for a given purpose.
Am I sold on one, I'll not change out my 411as it offer all I need, plus given prices have Plummeted.
Two things I see with the 452 is it's tank off to get to the Air filter-check-clean-change, is that something everyone could do each time and combined indicator/tail/stop light, should one take either out in a drop/catch, you're left wanting any form of light..!
Great as always. Cheers
Great review of the bike. The best for me is how comfy and happy you were with the bike. The questions are, was it easy to ride, was the bike fun to ride, did the bike make you happy and make you smile a lot even in terrain you were not accustomed to. The answer to all previous questions is YES. I deduce from this that you should just bite the bullet and get yourself one it's obvious to me that you really really like the Himalayan 450. As always great video keep up the great work.
Gawdayuuum, after seeying so many reviews of the new Himmy, and i'm talking about a LOT of reviews, you still managed to sneak in things I didn't know and didn't even consider! Serious props for that! Add to the bunch the last 4 part videos and idk what to say! Seriously well done, I mean it!
🥰🥰🥰 thank you
@@SaffySprocket No worries! Also (and sorry for making another comment) since you mentioned your love for gadgets, tech and gizmos, it got me wondering if making videos focussing on said gadgets, like android auto screens or whatever, would be something on your radar?
Great review, thanks for sharing!
No problemo :-)
Hi from India,
Good to see genuine review about H450
Super review Saffy, the Himalayan is a very compelling bike! I love the idea that google maps is inbuild too, my Triumph Street Triple does integrate with maps, but its turn by turn only. I love a good map and this bike certainly gets the geeky side of my attention! I think the power output going up really will help this bike and as someone who has never tried an adventure bike, its tempting to pick one up in a few years! I like that its light at 200kg, I hate heavy bikes.
I'm lucky that i'm tall though and have no issues with seat height at 5ft 11in.
Great review, you raised points very relevant to me and not covered by any of the other reviews I've watched, Well done from me!!!!😎
Glad it was helpful! 🥰

Good review Saffy - very honest and keeping it real. Keep going! Have you ever considered more training like the IAM Roadsmart course maybe?
Tried a session, found it too stressful 😅
Great video. Would love to see a video concentrated on the tripper dash and the phone call and txt integration as well as maps. Sounds like something you're keen on as well. Keep up the great work.
Don't get me started 😂 I'd rip the thing apart and do a walkthrough if I ever got my hands on it 😂

Great review. Just picked up a trail bike myself this week, '24 WR450F
Good choice!
Good 👍 review staff ❤😊
It's truly amazing how Royal Enfield was able to make a new 450 single weigh almost as much as a 750 twin Honda Transalp. Other than price I can't imagine why anyone would want this thing.
You have to ride it to understand
Less electronics, easier to repair, better weight distribution, less agressive rider aids, much, much more intuitive to operate AND the price. Recently a friend with a Transalp and I rode a very curvy road pretty quick, but every time he braked hard into a corner his emergency light went off. This alone is a reason to stay away from such a patronising vehicle, if you drive behind that thing you´re contantly getting distracted - a real bummer.
great review .... go on get one , you know you want to : )
Don't teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeempt meeeeeeeeeeee
Great review Saffy! Safe rides!

Saffy I loved you geeking out on this bike, as a techy myself, I love this that the TFT is google ready, as you know with Android phones they are very easily hacked and upgraded, this would suggest that there could be some tweaking involved with the display and what you can do with this screen. I hope Royal Enfield give you one of these on a long term loan, as you seem to really love this bike for what it is and how easy it was to ride and use, especially after the mishap in Norway, this appeared to give you some of your confidence back which is great to see.

I really did 😅 but I need to be good! Need to sort out my CB500x first
Congratulations Royal Enfield! 🎉
I don't like the traditional RE look but love this evolution 😍
Great, personal, review, Saffy - love the way you use annotations
Pairing your phone is a non issue for me. Buy a cheap, refurbed, 2nd phone from a major reseller, just for the RE app (I'm just buying another one using moneysaving experts phone comparison). If the soft lock doesn't turn off the display after a time, use a black picture as the background wallpaper, dial down brightness & contrast. Perhaps it would make sense for RE to do a deal with a major supplier and supply one (unsimmed) ? And let the graphics team loose, to make a unique RE phone cover.
You're overthinking it, the security patch will be here before the end of the quarter. Just need to be patient:-)

2:44 Sherpas are actually people not animals(I know you said ethnic group but you pointed towards animals so I'm just making it clear). They mostly carry all their load on their own backs, sometimes even a person. So in some cases they carry around 100kgs on their freakin back. They are amazing.
Definition of an Ethnic Group: A group of people who share a similar culture (beliefs, values, and behaviors), language, religion, ancestry, or other characteristic that is often handed down from one generation to the next.
You wouldn't use such a phrase to refer to animals 😅
Got in for the bike fell in love with u
I really did!
This is all the adv bike that most people need. And you will drop it in the rough stuff - and it’s not that expensive that you are worried about dropping it.
Which color looks best?
Regarding the google maps, does it works with downloaded maps as I don’t have an abonnement or data ? This is a big gripe I have with Beeline Moto, it doesn’t work with downloaded maps so it cannot re-route.
Did you feel gearbox to be quite clunky during upshifts?? I experienced a false neutral as well during TD😅
Downshifts are smooth tho
Hi there young Sprocket your definitely getting one soon 😂🎉
Great review, balanced and helpful. How does it compare to your SV650? Do you miss the 25hp difference or does the Himalayan feel ample? Thank you 😊
more like 35hp difference...
@@farmoboy83 yep, 75hp which is more than I thought. Sprocket is only a few years old and I forgot as my DL650 is only 67hp but nearly 20 years old. I fancy getting into more off road riding but not sure if I can drop 27hp when nearly the same weight… test ride I guess. Would still love to know your thoughts Saffy 😊
Great review! Very thorough even the google map/cell phone situation kinda sorta made sense to my Luddite leaning Boomer brain.. Sounds like RE has a winner on their hands! the 450 and you! Great Video!
It's difficult to explain the tech, there are days even I am trying to wrap my head around it, but the general principles are there :-) I saw a lot of criticism about the lack of android auto or Waze compatibility but actually taking the route that RE is using means they get access to much better results for consumers!
to have good controle of the motor , try to make a U turn on a road of 24 feet ore better 20 feet of 6 meter
Have a ride throughout the high hills of himalyas ladakh lipulekh leh manli kashmir u Will be thrilled also the great pangong tso lake
It's really important for all potential buyers to test this bike, I was so disappointed with it that I cancelled my order. I wanted a single cylinder machine as a weekend plaything, but the vibration is just too much, the seat is too hard for more that an hour.
Really? You found it disappointing? Oh no way! I loved it 😅😅😅
We Indians are used to Japanese manufacturers historically. Vibrations for us is Character for the west 😀
@SaffySprocket yes, been riding for 40 years and have ridden so many bikes. Wanted to go back to a single for weekend use to give me some of the character my Aprilia 660 single had. The engine feels more 125, than 450. Vibrations are not an issue, unless they become a invasive as they are on this bike. The chassis, suspension, tft and fit and finish are all great. Off road it's obviously perfect.
@@virajvroomsvibrations are so subjective, I don't mind them unless they cause issues on long rides. The seat is so hard too. Really important that potential owners test ride this bike!
@@jimmyjam8795 Thanks. You seem to be the first one whom I agree with. The youtubers are going gaga about this bike like there is no other option. It might be a good bike off road but doesn't fit the bill of being an all rounder. I was able to have a closer look at the upcoming KTM 390 ADV test mule here in Pune, India. It's leaps and bounds ahead of the RE.

@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne I am a very negative person, negative times negative is positive, so Hah! 🥳
Some riders are reporting vibes at higher road speeds , did you get a chance to do any faster road riding, and how did you find the vibrations?
I was speeding on the road later on, I didn't notice anything! But I do a lot of miles all the time, maybe I've tuned it out?
I feel like it probably needs some crash bars & maybe a doubletake mirror upgrade but otherwise this looks like a great laid-back beginner friendly manual bike.
There's a lot of add-ons for crash bars :-)
Will ik work with a iPhone good video
Yes :D!
The biggest problem with tech like the Google integration, is the like of longevity. This is true across all vehicles, cars are notorious for this. But think of this - most phones stop being realistically usable at 5+ years old, they stop getting updates, and by about 7 or 8 years old they can no longer use the latest apps. The average age of a motorbike on the roads in the UK today is 15 years old - does anybody honestly believe that this bike will still be getting updates that far into the future? I know no car of that age that keeps getting updates to it's on-board systems for that long.

RE should give cruise control on it
You know you're going to end up getting one..🤪😇😎
😅😅😅😅 stooooooooop behaaaaaaave
Great concept but RE would have been smarter to lose the tech stuff and make the bike lighter, 200kg wet is 5 Kg less than a T7, and dare I say 60kg heavier than a DRZ 400E and has the same power as a DRZ along with less capable suspension.
It is also 40KG heavier than the DR650, if that is progress I will live without it.
It's not the tech that adds weight though..🧐 As I understand it, it's quite easy to shave 20 Kg off it's dry weight, after that, you might have to make harder choices when reducing the weight, but reducing by 30 Kg still shouldn't cost a lot. That would put it at 150 Kg dry..🤨
@@leifiseland1218 I meant priority wise, spend the r&d on weight saving not gimmicks.
You have to remember this thing is built like a brick. No doubt in my mind if you ripped the crash protection off, you'd have a lighter bike. It's solid AF. How often do we weigh bikes after all the after market crap we put on, at least RE are being transparent about the weight :-)
@@SaffySprocket There's an indian guy who modified some stuff on the 450 he uses.. Got it down to just over 160 Kg dry... Put the tankguards back, & ended up at about 164 Kg right now... There's still a lot he could change on that bike though.. The solution fixing the windshield/headlight etc to the bike is largely made of stamped soft steel.. Create one using carbon fibre & titanium, & you'll probably save 2-3 Kg.. The tank guards are made of soft steel aswell, & weigh in at 3 Kg.. Make them out of aluminium instead, & you'll half that weight.. & all that at one of the highest points of the bike.. There's plenty of weight savings to be made
The weight includes the centre stand. Ditch that if you don’t need it for your type of riding
Defo upped their game to compete more with the 390 adventure.
They're really on the ball with this bike!
Sorry Saffy 19:28 wrong info here unless RE decided to rebuild the system for the UK! The device doesnt have built-in maps. Niether does it have the processing power to run an apk based Android app. You need the RE app on your cell phone that uses the google maps api again in your cellphone to mirror your mobile screen on the round dash. It's a simple tech that cars already have. The problem with RE app though is that your cell phone screen needs to stay on all the time which drains the battery super fast, heats your cell phone in a way your pockets get warm. Practically, defies the very reason why it was made. Eliminate wires and allow riders to keep their cell phones free form interference while Touring without draining the batteries
Over heating is one issue but this will be resolved with the patch my main issue was the security problems and screen burn because I have an OLED phone. The screen does run off Android and uses APK files :) the tech team confirmed it when I asked, it is integrated with maps to avoid the sever charges hence why android auto and Waze won't work on it!
10 points.
@@SaffySprocket Unsure about that Saffy. Google charges manufacturers for Google Automotive Services (GAS). Which as you shared RE is not paying. So cost-wise it doesn't really make sense having an Android on board without Google services. You would need to fit a good processor and a RAM in that tiny dash. The RE guys might need some training from their nerdy IT Indian counterparts here 🤓. The dash is just a slave device. Your cell phone is still the master device on which your cellphone manufacturer is already paying Google for GMS. If at all the dash has Android in it, then rejoice. You should be able to install any third party map app to work natively. No need to mirror your cell phone. But I am having a hard time believing RE cracked something that even Germans or Japanese manufacturers couldn't especially at this price point 😉
