    I'm still hoping for individual steelbooks, that's what I got for Vol. 1. Those pockets are just too damn hard to get the discs in and out of!

    Shadow of a Doubt is pretty good. I think you'll like that one. It's more of a drama than a thriller, though. The Trouble With Harry is pretty much a straight-up comedy, which I'm not really interested in. One of my least favorite Hitchcock films. I realy only watch it for the amazing Vermont countryside when autumn is in full bloom. Should look spectacular on 4K.

      Saboteur is a classic with a famous Hitchcock landmark conclusion." Shadow of a Doubt" has been stated as Hitchcock's favorite film, so worth seeing it for that. I'm also not a big fan of the black comedy "The Trouble with Harry", however does have a wonderful Bernard Herrmann score. "Marnie" is an alright film, not bad, not great (this is the film that I would say started Hitch's decline from a great winning streak), again another great Herrmann score. Finally there's Family Plot, how can I put this. Hitchcock should have stopped with "Frenzy" and he would have left the the film indusdry with a good suspenseful film. Although, I would have never actually seen one of his film's at the theater then.

      @batman.darthmaul 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jameslacey5474 Yeah, I more or less agree with you, and especially regarding Family Plot. Trivia: Sean Connery had to be on the set of Goldfinger the day after he wrapped shooting for Marnie, even though Marnie somehow had a longer post production and Goldfinger made it into theaters first.

      @@jameslacey5474 If I remember correctly, that's on the commentary of the Criterion edition of Goldfinger. MGM/UA didn't like some things that were said during the commentary and threatened legal action against Criterion unless they pulled those discs off the shelves. The discs were literally sitting on store shelves but vendors had to pull them and return them to their supplier. Those discs are somewhat rare today. Luckily, I have a digital dub of the commentary. This happened not only for Goldfinger, but Criterion also released Dr. No and From Russia With Love simultaneously, all of which were banned after the fact by MGM because of the commentaries. (The commentary was only on the CAV versions of the laserdiscs.) It's unfortunate because their commentaries for all three films are extremely good. MGM later produced their own commentaries when the Bond films came out on DVD. Those are not quite as good. A very similar situation happened with Barbara Streisand and her film, Prince of Tides. Criterion had the laserdiscs produced and were about to ship them when Streisand changed her mind at the last minute because of something she said on the commentary. Criterion had to eat the cost of manufacturing those copies and produce new ones without the commentary.

    Nice box set Ken and awesome unboxing. I tend to not like those types of sleeves in my box sets. If it has them I put the disks in a multi bluray case. The evil dead box set has same issue for me.

    That actress is Priscilla Lane. She is a great! Fun fact she also played the fiancee to Carey Grant in Arsenic and Old Lace. She only made a handful of movies 🎬 I love all the movies in this set.

    Looks like a fantastic set, Ken! Really looking forward to picking this up. My only wish would be for it to come with more plastic casing and less on the sleeves, mainly just because 4Ks scratch easier than standard blu-rays. Otherwise, I'm very excited about this!

    Gruv is the best for Universal movies. I wish other studios would have that.
    Shadow of a Doubt is real good. In my top 10. It is one Hitchcocks favorites some people say it is his favorite.
    Saboteur is good too. Real good ending.

    It does look amazing, now I wonder if I should double dip and get the 4K. (I have that Blu ray set with the larger collection.) Shadow of a Doubt and Trouble with Harry looked great as Blu rays. Marnie and Family Plot were horrible quality though - very inconsistent with lots of issues. I wonder if they have made new masters and restored them more carefully?

  • @erikdolnack2737
    @erikdolnack2737 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought this set, but was on the fence, as none of the films included in this set are all that good. I wish they would remaster "39 Steps", "North by Northwest" and "To Catch a Thief" in 4K, as those are much better movies.

    • @Fredo_Viola
      @Fredo_Viola 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Shadow or a Doubt is pretty spectacular actually. And Trouble With Harry is randomly very good. Marnie is a bit of a snooze with some interesting aspects. It’s not really rewatchable for me. I rather like Family Plot but no way it’s important to own on 4K. Somehow it’s format is standard dvd! ;)

  • @Fredo_Viola
    @Fredo_Viola 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh, btw, Family Plot is fuuuunnnnn!!! Sort of like elevated Columbo. It’s certainly not as sharp and brilliant by far than Frenzy, which is one of my all time favs of his, but it’s not a bad film. A little dated. I am kind of irritated by the female lead. Very over the top, almost hammy. Some love her though. Either way, I watch the film now and again, usually when I have a cold and just want some light comfort food.

    I need this set. Looks really nice! I’m surprised that Connery is in one of these and tippi from the birds. That’s really cool. I own the steelbooks from set 1. Do you think we’ll get steelbooks of these? Never seen any of box 2. Box 1 haven’t seen vertigo yet

  • @ThousandMovieMainframe

    I thought Vol. 2 would have included North By Northwest, Rope, and To Catch A Thief. I guess we’ll have to wait until Vol.3. My aim is to watch between 10-15 Hitchcock movies this month. I’ve watched three so far.

    • @midlevelmedia
      @midlevelmedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of those are through Warner Bros and Paramount, so I guess Universal just went with the ones they had? Hope you enjoy the movies!

  • @mikewright9138

    Saboteur and Shadow Of A Doubt are 2 of his best. Marnie is excellent and one of his most underrated movies (with Sean Connery). The Trouble With Harry is one of my favorites, a delicious black comedy and beautifully shot in fall Vermont. Family Plot, his last film is NOT one of his best. Should have been swapped out for Frenzy which IS one of his best, and next to last film. Enjoy them all.
