So got it, the bonus features on both discs of my 4K/Blu-Ray steelbook of The Birds are the same. (you see, I only have the capability to play regular blu-rays)
Yea, I literally had the same issue with the movie glitching and the finger smudge on the disc. Thanks for the tip because once I rubbed it off it played fine.
I had the same issue with Psycho 4K. I could not get it to play without glitching. I initiated a return. But then I examined the disc again before shipping the set and found a big fingerprint. I wiped the disc and it played fine. This has never been an issue on discs mounted on spindles because you can handle the disc without touching the playing surface. I enjoyed all four 4K movies a great deal. But placing the discs in tight cardboard sleeves was not a good call by Universal.
I had an issue with the Rear Window disc, about half way through the movie the audio continues but the picture stops and buggs out. Wiped my disc a bit and its a tad better but not much.
Because I love my bluray box-set, I've been having to buy these four 4K discs individually (eBay), as I don't need another bluray disc. And, when are they going to waste resources in selling us a bluray disc with every 4K?! Most of us are either upgrading or buying it for the first time!
It is a very good set. The extra bits of footage added to the Uncut Psycho were interesting. Funny how censors were riled by certain things back in those days.
The Birds is a nice upgrade from the Blu, but Rear Window is more marginal in terms of improvement. That was disappointing to me because Rear Window is my favorite Hitchcock film.
I bought the standard Blu-ray Hitchcock box and the film in that set that really needed a restoration was the second version of Man Who Knew Too Much. Oddly the 30s version looks a lot better then the 50s version. I don't know if they did a new restoration of that film but that could really use massive color correction.
Criterion did a complete restoration of the negative of the 1934 The Man Who Knew Too Much. They had to as the negative was completely warped and heavily damaged. That could account for it looking better than the Jimmy Stewart version from the 50s.
Shooter 77 That makes sense. It was the only film from that Blu box that was kind of weak picture wise. It had this heavy brown color cast. There was something like 13 films so it was still a really good deal, half off even!
I wanted to get the package so bad , but The Birds STILL freaks my wife out ! 60yr old woman should be ashamed of herself , being freaked out by Tweety-Bird and company....
If you're using the BenQ HT5550 projector, sometimes it can be a bit glitchy over HDMI connection when you first fire up, so the split screen symptom you had might be related to that. I think the last firmware update solved it.
It was this collection of 4K Hitchcock classics that sold me the realization that 4K flicks were something I was going to be dropping some serious dollars on 4K.
I felt that the transfer for The Birds was just ok. It's my favorite film in this set and the blu ray looked terrible so I was worried about the 4k transfer. There are some scenes that i thought looked great but others looked awful.
I’m getting a little tired of people referring to the effects in The Birds as “cheesy”. Do you realize how much work and time and effort went into making that film the groundbreaking work of art that it is? To dismiss it as “cheesy” in comparison to today’s special effects which are created by computers (wow, what an accomplishment) is just lazy and offensive.

Vertigo is hard to beat, the presentation was something else, and should be after two years of work, haven't seen rear window yet, but will never understand why it beat out North by Northwest for this collection. Up next... Back to the future, a 4k trailer is on youtube.
Think you were to critical of the Birds movie. this version has not made the birds look cheesey at all, they have never been cheesey. it will remain a great and triifying film. and if you had watched the extras for the movie, you would no they dont ever use blue or green scene, its matt artists with painted cells. amazing skills long gone now. and the end scene as they drive away is 22 pices of film all put together on the one shot. that is impressive and you woul dnever guess cause oif the skill. so dont know a great film that will last forever.
I am a huge fan of your new setup, but please put more of distance between you and the camera. And put tape on the floor to mark the distance so that it's the same in every video. Take a lesson from Chris Stuckmann's channel on sitting in front of blurays with a light in front of you. Keep up the good work!
I think your focused content and presentation has captured a sweet spot of appeal. I would expect continued subscriber growth, but IMO you need just two tweaks: 1) Your voice is woolly and muffled, almost hard to listen to. It looks like your microphone is facing downward, away from your vocal direction. 2) Would recommend zooming out the cam just a bit. Maybe it's subliminal, but the presentation feels a bit too close. Your mug needs a little more top margin.
I wonder if my beard doesn’t help with the mic? I’ll try to adjust that, and I’m always playing with my camera. I’m actually hoping to upgrade it shortly which will allow for some more flexibility.

Hello- Rear Window and The Birds are two of Hitchcock's best known films but the unfortunate thing is is that The Birds contains the WORST fake outdoor set I've ever seen in a film. its right after the birthday party Rod Taylor's character is throwing for his younger sister played Angela Cartwright. I should think on 4K it would be awful.

Probably, we will at least get mad max 2. Mad max 2 is more well liked than the original. 3 is not as good thou so we might not get that
