I'm twice your age, and I once had a lot of plans, but not so much anymore. It's good to have goals, but it's better to keep them flexible. Otherwise, you'll miss out on some really good stuff. Also, existential dread never really leaves. You just learn to see the wave coming, and to keep your head above water.
"I'm not half the things I thought I would've been at this age". As someone who turned 24 last October, I feel that 100%. Thanks for being vulnerable, it's comforting to hear that alot of people are struggling with their identity/what they want at this stage of life. Also, you should call them Buster the Bus (I used "them" because idk whether your van identifies as a girl or boy or somewhere in between)
I resonate with all of this. I'm 30 and I still feel similar feelings. But it does get easier with time. The only thing I've learned is that I need to be kinder to myself. Good luck! I'm very excited for you.

Kait, I took apart most of a *Bentley* without really knowing what I was doing at the start. Ten years later I still do various bits of work on cars without really knowing what I'm doing at the start. You got this. Take lots of photographs as you go, both to document it all and so you know where to put stuff back (!). As for a name for the bus, I like Ethel for the *E-Th*ree bit of the model number :-)
Fantastic name! And thanks for the advice!! I have a 3D van design software that's helping my visualize and plan everything, plus my dad has an electrical engineering degree so he's helping me map out all of it! I'm really excited to learn and figure things out during the process :)

I'm currently there and I feel like I need some sort of massive change to get me out of my rut. Thank you for being an inspiration! I can't wait to see where life takes you! Also, for some reason, Charlie sticks out as a good name for the bus :)
I'm a third year university student in Canada and I've had a lot of those same existential questions bothering me recently, so this really helped. Became a fan of you from your work at VF, and even though I don't know you personally, I'm really proud of you for taking these steps to make sure your life is on your terms. I hope I can do the same in my own way! :)
The one thing I wish anyone would have told me at your age that I know now twelve years later at 36; we will always disappoint ourselves until we find out what truly matters to us, and that can take a long ass time. But, the one thing I did hear that helped me, was that the Dalai Lama says the purpose of our life is to be happy, so if that’s true then in finding happiness, we also find our purpose, and what really matters in life.
Keep recording things and keep that self awareness to take a step back and look at the difference you make and all those people who love you. Ruptured disc problems suck, but the comment I almost posted about my empathy on that subject made me cry and I couldn’t post it and didn’t want to seem like I was fishing for sympathy or something. My adventures lately have been making friends online. I’m jealous of your real world adventures past and future, depending on where that bus decides to take you. Take care of yourself.
