  • This covers the clutch replacement and upgrade on all the Suzuki 805cc v-twin engines and most other boulevards along with most other cruisers. It's not a hard job at all on most bikes, requiring no special tools and just an hour of your time plus supplies. It saves you a good $200+ over taking it to a dealer for the work in labor alone. Amazon is an excellent source of parts and once you know what to do it's an easy job.

Pretty good guide for clutch replacement. The only thing that bothers me is what you called a "bushing" , the thing you hang the gasket onto, is called a "dowel pin". Dowel pins are really important because they insure exact tolerance for alignment of engine parts. I installed a transmission once and forgot to install the dowel pins, and the alignment of the engine and transmission were off by and it destroyed the pressure plate. I don't mean to be nit picky, just thought the viewers would like to know there's a purpose for those two little thingamabobs--don't lose them or forget to put them back on.

Not to be nitpicky back, but I'm a viewer and I couldn't have cared less what he called them so long as he showed what needed to be done right and I didn't have to figure out what he was saying in Bengali like most videos for metric bikes. 🥔

Took about 2 hours from prep work (getting tools laid out and oil soaking plates) to putting fresh oil back in. Granted I had to take a trip to Napa in between that lol. Appreciate the tutorial, I'm not very mechanically inclined but I made light work of this project! Runs like a different bike! Thank you so much brother!

Awesome ! I have a 2006 C90 with around 40k - 30k of the miles was in the past 18 months - I do a majority of my maintenance "12 years as an aircraft mechanic, not much I can't figure out lol" this video saved me a ton of time - thanks !

Good Morning to you, first let me say I'm very glad to see you taking a ride along the beach. I saw your video and you sounded very happy to be "in the saddle" again. Hopefully you will not have any long term discomfort with the meds and will continue with a clear head. I wanted to thank you for the video on the C50 clutch replacement. I have a 2007 C50 , and after watching your video decided to tackle this myself. I order parts from Suzuki House, online and paid about $160.00 total. The fix was straightforward and relatively painless! It took longer to clean the gasket off the housing and mainframe then any other part of the job. I then adjusted the clutch per your second video and all is well. I rode it yesterday for a "shakedown" and it feels great. (South Louisiana 61 degrees). While I have always been mechanically inclined, your video and this job made me mechanically confident. Stay healthy, keep riding and we hope to watch more videos. And as we say in Louisiana laissez les bons temps rouler
    .

Hi Bryan. This is one old video, but I just bought me a 2005 M50 last week. This is one of the BEST how to vids I've ever watched. I was looking for how to adjust the clutch but ended up watching this all the way through. I've always been dreading the time I'll need to replace the clutch plates. (I have a Triumph Rocket III, too), but after this, I see there is no need to fear! Thanks you, Thank You for that!!! Now, you mentioned that the next video will be how to adjust the clutch so off to that. While I was lubing the clutch cable the clutch end came out of the slot so I've already been under the covers to put that back in. That little adjuster thingy looks scary, though, but I'm sure that the next video you did after this one will take care of that! Cheers!!!

I was rear ended last year October on my FJR1300 and so I figured I would try another bike, of which I also liked back in 2005. I just bought a 2006 M109 Boulevard. I'm glad to see I can still come to you for advice. Very cool.

Thank you so much for a simple straight forward video instruction on the clutch repair. I have a 2007 C50 with 38k miles and have been noticing on 40 to 50 mph, if I have to accelerate in to a passing lane, I hear..then feel the acceleration. I feel like it is a slipping clutch and only in the upper gears. You address this very concern at the beginning of the video, so I believe it will relieve this issue. I really like this bike and don't want to trade it out or spend a fortune at a bike shop. I will do this repair and let you know how it turns out. Also, thanks for the clutch adjustment video, a nice finish to this repair.

Becareful there are some differences depending on the year of the bike. Im doing my clutch currently waiting for new barnett parts. On my 2004 C90 I don't believe the fibre plates are different thicknesses, but I will check the new ones. Also the last fibre plate goes in a different slot than rest of the fibre plates and when replacing the clutch pressure plate there is a small hole in the plate that is supposed to line up with a triangle on the clutch basket. I have a manual. Take pictures before you disassemble, always nice to have for reference.

TWO, I was hoping that your video would show how to change the gear shift spring. Do you have one that shows that? I took off the cover on the opposite side of the clutch. That created a gob of work with no access to replace the spring. So this time I'm searching to see if going through the clutch cover provides access to the spring. But I did not see it in your video. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have the 2009 C50 tour.

I have read that the Suzuki factory had not lubricated (greased) the final gear to the back wheel properly and therefore there have been complaints of worn out and chopped-up final gear at the wheel. Any truth to this factory mistep?)

I worked for Honda. Suzuki may be the same. If you mix the side cover bolts simply put a few in and notice the distance from the bolt head to the cover, that is putting them in the holes till they stop before you screw them in, if one is say 1/4 inch out they will all be 1/4 inch out. This way you know you have them in the right hole. If it is too short it will be down against the cover, too long it will be out farther than the rest. I enjoy your videos. Norman

I know this vid is years old. But I just did this repair this AM. And wanted to take a moment to show my appreciation. It went very smoothly. It didn't take under an hour... but it also didn't take me days to finish because I didn't have the proper tools - like a torque wrench.
Thanks again for posting. I had a great ride this AM back up to N Scottsdale while being down and out for four months.
Next up - clutch cable adjustment. Yes, I watched the vid on that and ready to go tomorrow.
    Thx again. All the best.

Own a 1999 Suzuki intruder 1500 VL. Goes into gears fine but won’t move/accelerate. I can completely let go of the clutch/dump it in first gear and it won’t kill the bike. What could this be? I opened up the clutch and saw that it could be the clutch. But also in the middle of putting the plates back the bearing from the middle fell out and I can’t seem to get to clutch cover to fit snugly now

I did a replacement on my bike... But the plates appear to be loose after reinstalling everything. They're not supposed to be loose are they?

Do you actually need to have a jack to do the clutch replacement?! I have everything else but don’t have a jack is it fine to do the clutch without jacking up the bike

Hey man, what did the bike sounds like for you to know it was the clutch? I am chasing a problem with my M50 that I can't figure out. You can watch my video for the sound it makes. I have the clutch out and the bike in gear and can still turn the rear wheel and hold the clutch catch still...

First off, great video! I changed out my clutch without much struggle due to your video. I have a question for you though. A mechanic said changing it would get rid of the whirring/whining noise my bike has when in 1-3 gear. It did fix that. When the bike is in gear it makes a loud and rather embarrassing amount of whirring/whining noise. When I press the clutch lever it goes away except if I'm slowing to a complete stop then it still makes a little noise. Any ideas? Thanks
