I always said the Player's Choice award was the most important one, and this just seals that deal. Really shows how awesome Ghost of Tsushima's playerbase is. Only a truly great game can inspire that amount of selflessness.
All of this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for the great team in Sucker Punch who made this incredible game. Remember when video games were only for kids and it is just made to give people mindless fun. Now it has changed and I'm proud to join the GoT fan base
Although I have certain issues with the game itself, and didn't enjoy it as much as a lot of people seem to, I can really appreciate this kind of positivity surrounding it. SP and Sony's support for the game is great, and people coming together to do this kind of generous, kind and wholesome thing is very heartwarming.
i didn't play Ghost of tsushima (i want to, i just don't own a playstation) but this is the kind of thing i love the most when it comes to games and art as a whole. because, i personally doubt many people donated to the cause just because they now learned about Tsushima(the place) through the game, although i'm sure there are people who did. i think many donated because they enjoyed the game so much, and it connected with them in such a profound way, that their enjoyment alone justified their donation, in a way it saying "i enjoyed the game so much, donating a bit to help the place it's based in is the least i can do to pay back for the awesome experience" more in honor of the game. than simply just new knowledge. not to discredit the people who did, though, they're great! so yeah, to put it simply. i think the game was so good, players Wanted to do something in its honor, and now we have this heartwarming story to share thanks to it
Ehh, I wouldn’t go that far...but there are some good people in this world. We need more people to give more than they take from the world. It doesn’t take much to give a damn about a good cause. It just takes someone to actually want to make this world a better place. I feel that the world will improve tenfold if we embrace this idea. Love your history and culture Japan. Much respect from an American.
Hell, this game made me want to *VISIT* Tsushima irl. Current pandemic postponed those plans, but I've been fortunate enough to remain employed, so I took the time to save up even more for this.
Torii Gates are meant to be a bridge of sorts between our world and the gods. Traditional custom, as I understand it, is to bow before walking through one, and to always walk along the edge of the path, to make way for the gods who walk alongside us. My Sensei told me about it once and I might have misheard some of it, but I think that's what they're for.
well to remarks a few on Torii(鳥居): it’s a symbol of dimension gateway between the human world and the sacred place ,typically found in shinto shrine. people made donations as a form of gratitude towards the god(s) said to resides in the shrine for their respective blessings. donors name (or organization) usually are engraved on the torii but in this case since its a lot of donors so it probably can’t be engraved in the gate itself but on a large memorial stone in place of it.
The gaming community is one of TH-cam's largest donators to charity. I'm really proud to see that our passion and kindness goes far enough to transcend cultures and borders.
I'm Japanese-American and when YongYea said "Tsushima, dedicated to the deities Hikohohodemino Mikoto and Toyotamabime"... and said "ommygod I butchered that." I laughed so hard. lol It's okay.
Ya know, I'm just wondering on the website it called the shrine "Watadumi Shrine" but I'm assuming that would be written as わたづみ神社 pronounced Watazumi, or archaically Watadzumi. I never learned Romaji so seeing that threw me off
This makes me so happy. A lot of the shrines in Japan are falling into disrepair due to financial difficulties. If a shrine isn't a popular tourist destination they often don't have the money needed for repairs like this. Seeing a video game inspire fans to help out is wonderful.
Yeah it's a shame that the economic growth of Japan (or lack thereof) over the last few decades has had a negative impact on so many aspects of its culture. Let alone social welfare, elderly care, custodial rights etc.
@@CitrusRev It should. Sony just needs to stop being greedy asses and just release their games on PC just like Microsoft. It didnt really hurt them putting horizon zero dawn on PC. I would love playing the Ratchet and Clank trilogy games on PC. just think of the mod support

I always said the Player's Choice award was the most important one, and this just seals that deal. Really shows how awesome Ghost of Tsushima's playerbase is. Only a truly great game can inspire that amount of selflessness.
Finally, some good fucking food.
This is amazing. Necer been prouder to be a part of this community.
Makes me proud to be apart gaming community when fellow gamers do things like this
Agreed..... Fancy robbing a bank?
@@sladey21 YES LET'S GO
All of this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for the great team in Sucker Punch who made this incredible game. Remember when video games were only for kids and it is just made to give people mindless fun. Now it has changed and I'm proud to join the GoT fan base
Non-gamers: videogames cause violence
Gamers:
Although I have certain issues with the game itself, and didn't enjoy it as much as a lot of people seem to, I can really appreciate this kind of positivity surrounding it. SP and Sony's support for the game is great, and people coming together to do this kind of generous, kind and wholesome thing is very heartwarming.
This makes me proud to be a gamer.
i didn't play Ghost of tsushima (i want to, i just don't own a playstation) but this is the kind of thing i love the most when it comes to games and art as a whole.
because, i personally doubt many people donated to the cause just because they now learned about Tsushima(the place) through the game, although i'm sure there are people who did.
i think many donated because they enjoyed the game so much, and it connected with them in such a profound way, that their enjoyment alone justified their donation, in a way it saying
"i enjoyed the game so much, donating a bit to help the place it's based in is the least i can do to pay back for the awesome experience"
more in honor of the game. than simply just new knowledge.
not to discredit the people who did, though, they're great!
so yeah, to put it simply.
i think the game was so good, players Wanted to do something in its honor, and now we have this heartwarming story to share thanks to it
I’m proud of this generation.
The kids will be alright
Ghost is the perfect example of what video games should strive to be
I'm just glad we were identified as players and not "gamers"
Profile pic name?
But you are a gamer

When they like us we're players. When they don't we're gamers.
Whats the problem with the word gamer?
Hell, this game made me want to *VISIT* Tsushima irl. Current pandemic postponed those plans, but I've been fortunate enough to remain employed, so I took the time to save up even more for this.
That’s freakin’ awesome
Torii Gates are meant to be a bridge of sorts between our world and the gods. Traditional custom, as I understand it, is to bow before walking through one, and to always walk along the edge of the path, to make way for the gods who walk alongside us. My Sensei told me about it once and I might have misheard some of it, but I think that's what they're for.
I did that precisely when i went temple visiting in Japan, though i did it without knowing
That priest would be so happy.
So did the people of Tsushima
well to remarks a few on Torii(鳥居): it’s a symbol of dimension gateway between the human world and the sacred place ,typically found in shinto shrine. people made donations as a form of gratitude towards the god(s) said to resides in the shrine for their respective blessings. donors name (or organization) usually are engraved on the torii but in this case since its a lot of donors so it probably can’t be engraved in the gate itself but on a large memorial stone in place of it.
GoT(Y) is such a great game even outside of the game, that it makes me happy in spite of not owning it.
I never learned Romaji so seeing that threw me off
This is amazing. We really needed some good news in these hard times. Kudos to those who donated. 👍
great story, glad you covered it - this mighta slipped under my radar otherwise :)
This game needs a pc port, all I have listened are awesome news related to this game.
It's not gonna get one, Sucker Punch is a Sony in house company like Naughty Dog
@@CitrusRev It should. Sony just needs to stop being greedy asses and just release their games on PC just like Microsoft. It didnt really hurt them putting horizon zero dawn on PC. I would love playing the Ratchet and Clank trilogy games on PC. just think of the mod support
@@CitrusRev ummm, Sony is releasing their games on Steam like Horizon and Death Stranding
Literally nothing but positivity surrounding this game. From its development, to its release and reception, to its updates and now this. Hats off to you Sucker Punch.
This game is everything Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t. Masterpiece
I also think that CP2077 should be PC exclusive.
@@MrScharleyXV Well Cyberpunk tried to be everything and work on every system possible, and suddenly also on next gen consoles. And thats what it has become, a bloody unfinished mess.
@@krivdik Yep. They should have focused on PC and then maybe port it to next gen... like in a year or two (maybe with multiplayer component or something).
The one game that come out positive and help build public relationship and somehow boosting tourism
But we can't get money to Reimu and her shrine. Smh.
omg, this is some great news to end my day on. Since I didn't get this video notification until night the day after you posted this...
I just started the game yesterday and, while I wish every archer burns in eternal hell fire it's still really fun.
I find them the best bit and go straight for them! Nothing like taking on 2 spear guys, 4 shield bubs and 3 archers and dodging left and right to get that nice slice on their stupid heads
@@sladey21 I can get used to dogging multiple enemys eventually but, I usually only takes a second of you get out from cover before an arrow hits you. I died soo many times just doing the mission that you get your first bow because of the elite gamer aim they have.
@@bryansuminski7543 eventually you can unlock the ability to deflect arrows.
I'm glad to see good news in the gaming industry. We need more things like this
