you can see how much Jerry values the relationships with his friends because they’ve been solid for over 30 years now, really speaks to his character and personality ❤
You talked about the power of Nutshell early in the interview. I never heard that song until this summer, in my car. I remember pulling into my driveway, and just sitting there, listening to this song, wondering where the hell it had been all my life. Overnight, instant Alice/Jerry/Layne/ Mad Season crazy woman. I’m 62, only knew the radio hits. I think I’m a better human being for knowing this catalog of music. Jerry is such a pro, he has been telling the same stories for years, but I love hearing it. Continued health and success.
Yes. At 53 then, discovered this wonder at home during Covid. Kept me going. Privedged to see him, his band, Bush, Candelbox and BTK as opener in Upstate N Y this past summer. Keep enjoying.
Christmas came early this year lmao. Thank you Scott!!! 🙏🏼 Man this guy, Jerry Cantrell has been with me and helped me through so many hard times. Alice in Chains has helped me with my sobriety journey (8 years sober now) and currently I left my home in LA to help take care of my mom with ALS. This disease is just awful but so grateful for “I Want Blood” and all the years of AIC music to help me through. Love hearing Jerry talk about the early 90’s days. Such a legendary time in history. Nothing but mad love and respect to you both. 🖤🖤🖤
I was a senior in high school in 1994 and Jar of Flies was the soundtrack to that amazing Summer. I still follow Jerry and watch him when he comes around. I've enjoyed Brighten and I Want Blood just as much as I have any AIC album. The Brighten record, in my opinion, is his best work to date, musically speaking. Great interview.
Awesome interview, can't wait to see Jerry in February, loving the guitars on the new album, bendy, dissonant, drone-y goodness. Jerry's the most humble riff lord out there, sincerest hope he stays with us for a long time, I'm secretly wishing for a dark, evil sounding country album from him later in his life.
I've got tickets to see him in February in an old 19th Century Baptist Church in Columbus, OH. I saw him in 2022 in a small club in Detroit on the Brighten tour and it was the best show I ever saw. 800 people, max. That's the best way to see Jerry Cantrell.
This may sound cheesy, but I really fell like some of these stories of the band members meeting/getting into music illustrate God's providence. Like as a 34 year old autistic guy, Alice in chains music spoke to me and has held my attention in such a special way. I'll have few week periods of listening to dirt and unplugged in their entirety every day. My late dad was also captivated by these guys. I was a kid in the 90s, so I remember my dad buying the unplugged and music bank DVD (back when that was a thing). Really cool to hear Jerry talk in this format, and his new music is very nice.
yes, and even when he wasnt focused, after being asked of change of style with jar of flies EP, he said sorry and explained honestly that he was recording 3 days straight. very honest and good human being this man.
This is definitely a treat for me. Jerry, Dimebag, and Jeff Hanneman are my inspirations and reason why i picked up and learn playing the guitar. Plus Jerry and Jeff Hanneman also sold me on using a kahler trem... i love that tremolo system. Thanks for the interview 🙏 🙌 😀
I can’t get enough of JC and I can’t figure out exactly what it is…yes great storyteller, musician, guitarist, vocalist…but I looked and was like sh** an hour?! I can’t! but apparently I can and did! And worth the listen. Great interview! ❤
I was hoping he would bring up the New Years Eve night at The Clubhouse with Dime and Vinnie, Gasoline, etc.........party till the sun rose. A priceless night indeed
Whale and Wasp…..what an amazing piece of music…..Jerry Cantrell thank you Sir, your music has been a soundtrack to my life since the mid 90’s I was a teen, before becoming addicted, then becoming an addict, then years later recovering….this music has relation to each chapter of my life and still does now 30 years later. It hits different now, it’s a blessing to listen to some of this music that was really relative to active drug addiction, to remind me of the pain of addiction without actually using. This music represents life as a whole and the beauty is the book is still being written is damn amazing!!!!! Thank you Jerry and the family band! I been obsessing on two songs lately, “Choke” & “Private Hell” …..Great interview.
That benefit concert can be found, it’s the only show they did in 1994. That audience was AWFUL. Def the worst they ever had to deal with. I will say, the setlist was slow and they didn’t warn the crowd they were gonna do an acoustic set. They were 2 seconds into Rotten Apple when they left the stage after 4 songs. That one woman screaming throughout the entire recording, man, I hope someone threw her in jail forever after that.
Imagine if Eddie could've just been a little more open-minded and dug into the groove and feel that Cantrell was doing, rather than what he did in the second half of his career, it could've been amazing
I’ve seen him in Boise twice in the last year and a half. Once in March 2023 at the Knitting Factory when he was doing the Brighten tour and again later that year in October with Alice at the Idaho Center. I got to meet him and get pic when I saw him on tour Brighten. When he came with Alice, I took my 3 teenage boys and waited for him to come out of the venue by his tour bus. He came out with his security guy and was walking towards the bus when he saw my 3 boys and immediately walked over to them and gave them JC guitar picks that he had in his pocket and shook my oldest son’s hand and thanked them for coming to the show, then proceeded to walk to straight to the bus. Needless to say, that was not only super cool of him to do that, because he didn’t have to. He went out of his way and walked up to them. But it was also great from a father’s perspective that Jerry gave them a special memory that they’ll treasure forever. Class act all the way.
oh dude.. im sure jerry won't see this, but if you haven't seen Stephen king's the stand, the new one (old one's good too), it's phenomenal. I think it's less time than the extended version lord of the rings trilogy.. storm of the century is a little older, but it's a pretty good tv movie too.
Tripod was such a heavy, bleak and depressing album, in the best way but I knew it was the end for Alice with Layne Staley. You could feel the self destruction in most of the songs. Heavy, heavy album.
Man I'm not a musician famous or even sure I'm alive myself but I lost literally all my day to day people .the people I worked and lived hung out with .drugs booze and natural causes .I knew it was happening today's the day after the first thanksgiving I spent alone ..the story about Jerry going on. When he said a couple of people that aren't here it's alot .
I don’t care how many times I’ve heard the same stories over the years, I love long-form conversations with Jerry. Great chat, Scott!
I totally agree , these long form conversations are so important especially with Guys like Jerry who broke big in the 90s
I was literally just thinking that same thing!!
I was just thinking the exact same thing. Can listen to this legend all day
you can see how much Jerry values the relationships with his friends because they’ve been solid for over 30 years now, really speaks to his character and personality ❤
"...you my friend, I will defend, and if we change, well I love you anyway." ❤😭
@ ❤️
Jar of Flies, like the world, was created in 7 days. Masterpiece and one of the most important of my life.
Ha-ha, true!

Correction, that was Candlebox and Bones B K.
Met Jerry in Philly in 2009 when BGWTB came out, genuinely one of the very coolest human beings ever !! Fun interview !!
Jerry tried his hardest to tiptoe around saying he wasnt that into Nirvana 😂
I noticed that. I mean Kurt gets this icon status, but he was probably the least talented of the whole scene.
That unique laugh at the beginning makes the whole interview worth to watch 😂❤️ Always a pleasure to hear this extremely talented and kind hearted man

@drewskkiiii oh 💭 thought my reply was private. Whoops. 🙏
The Vibe on Tripod album is so... Killer
such a dark record. My fav project they ever did.
yeah i love it, but everytime i listen to the fucking lyrics i get sad

So lovely to hear and see Jerry.
Thank you GOD BLESS Always Philadelphia USA 🇺🇸 Nostrovia

Certainly the most intimate Jerry interview ever. Nice work.

Really cool to hear Jerry talk in this format, and his new music is very nice.
The best part of having a successful band is having that band made up of really great genuine people.
I think Jerry is the most down to earth greatest cat ever to walk this planet
He is so dam cool and his Riffs are the Best !
Jerry Cantrell - such a cool, lovely Badass with a big heart! Love your Music, long live Jerry! 🙇🏻♀️🔥🤘🏽
Rooster , one the best songs ever. About Jerry’s dad in Nam
Awesome interview! Jerry seems to be such an amazing cool dude. Just easy going and focused.

Love this, thanks so much, love Jerry, such a cool guy and unbelievably talented ❤
Class act, thanks for being with us.
I can’t get enough of JC and I can’t figure out exactly what it is…yes great storyteller, musician, guitarist, vocalist…but I looked and was like sh** an hour?! I can’t! but apparently I can and did! And worth the listen. Great interview! ❤
Jerry is the best! Talented musician and also a hell of a storyteller 😍
Riff Master General himself
Yes I agree I could hear Jerry 24/7 SMILES
Jerry has got the most addictive laugh I love it ❤
JC - Superstar! Enduring talent, endlessly creative and always a great interview subject... with a brilliant laugh. Legend.
Terrific interview.
I was hoping he would bring up the New Years Eve night at The Clubhouse with Dime and Vinnie, Gasoline, etc.........party till the sun rose. A priceless night indeed

Thanks for the great interview bro!
❤YEAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
15:09 Name dropping Rush *CHECK* good work, Jerry :D
Jerry is the man. The myth. The legend. Greatest 90s guitarist dimebag is very close
Met him at NAF then again at a bowling alley. Down to earth cool guy
new album is fantastic
🤘🔥JC4LIFE 🔥🤘
It’s cool to hear him talk about the who, AIC is kinda like the who of the 90s just a lot heavier
So good.
💘 LOVE JERRY 💘
I knew about Rosie Bones from the Jeff Beck Loud Hailer record from 10 years ago. Got to see Bones UK with Jerry at Freedom Hill last year.
Jerry rocks 🇺🇸
Finally dropped this interview
Layne wrote the lyrics for Nutshell, Jerry wrote the music.
My teenaged angst years occured during Alice's early days. I was strictly a metal/Pantera junkie til i heard Facelift.
interviewer dude Nirvana fanboyed out for a sec..cmon man
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Love you Legend Jerry Cantrell ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I wish he would come to Idaho

@ yeah that’s a great story, he’s a good guy. Problem is, I wasn’t into them last year and know I really want to see at least Jerry if not Alice
Jerry pls come to NZ

Are you in Neal Brennens podcast studio?!
He has amazing tastes in everything. And I'm saying that cause they are most similar to mine. Lol
Jerry’s cool
Get a longer cable for the headphones dude
i thought the interviewer was the guy from Sugar Ray and i almost didn't watch!
LOL, I thought it was him as well.
I think you have a counterfeit Shure SM7B mic there….
Tripod was such a heavy, bleak and depressing album, in the best way but I knew it was the end for Alice with Layne Staley. You could feel the self destruction in most of the songs. Heavy, heavy album.
You should talk to Soul Asylum
You don't even say his name correctly
Bro, everyone knows you did major coke. TALK ABOUT IT. it’s great entertainment
Alice in chains is my number on favorite band but I don't like Jerry latest solo album he used have good voice but he hew voice nowdays sound to nasal
Man I'm not a musician famous or even sure I'm alive myself but I lost literally all my day to day people .the people I worked and lived hung out with .drugs booze and natural causes .I knew it was happening today's the day after the first thanksgiving I spent alone ..the story about Jerry going on. He should have stopped in time and not embarrassed himself like this.
Jerry... It's time to make a new friend... @bobbysiskvocals
